This movie literally scarred me, it is truly the most horrifying experiency I've ever witnessed, yet it was so good I think I've watched it about fifty times. What it implies is terrifying, and honestly, it's an extermination, not a war. It is the most accurate reppresentation to date, and I reccomend it to anyone.
Not to mention the overarching sense of desperation. Almost every scene was long, dark, gloomy, and relentless with the tripods pursuing and attacking the protagonists time and time again; just like a long and terrible nightmare. This is one of those films that draws you right into the unsettling and hopeless atmosphere of an invasion through the eyes of the defenseless. There is something about the depth in those scenes, seeing tripods in the distance hunting hundreds of evacuating people, and peaking over the horizon, the horror of the invasion doesn't just come from imminent danger, it also lingers far away as you feel empathy for those people, watching them moments before they die with nowhere to run or hide.

Nobody: Humans during a disaster: *Running in a straight line away from the deadly laser* Edit: "Oh look, the ground is cracking open beneath my feet! I'll just stand here and stare at it."
Don't understand the problem of this? In panic situations it is about seconds that your choices determent if you are going to live or die. It's easy for you to say, you are viewing it from a screen and can make choices with your calm ass. In real life when something like that happens you react and run away as far as possible. If you run right, left, right left, or running horizontal how are you possibly going to run away from it as far as you can? Also if you see in the movie some people tried to hide in cars or buildings but the Tripod destroyed them easy, so the best possible way WAS to run away just straight as far as possible. And yes we humans do look back when we run way from something, specially to see if the threat is still behind us and if it is safe to stop. But also to tactical advantage to see where the threat is. Some people do react different in different situations. While we have not been in an alien invasion we can see these examples from nature disasters.
Christopher VanGogh ya I agree but I mean it kinda makes sense that they would hide in the basement because like where esle would the run go with the tripods everywhere
It's a bit slow but it's an important part of the story, you see Tom Cruise's happy-go-lucky character growing up finally as he's not only lost his son but now has to murder a guy to protect his daughter. Also, there is a similar scene in the book that takes place in a house.
I really like the military. They are the guardians that the people had. While the civilians are running for their lives, the military are the ones that try to fight back ready to die if need be. In that war, they are the guardians of humanity.
2005 War of the Worlds is the best disaster movie of all time. It’s the perfect depiction of how disorienting, grim, and terrifying an alien apocalypse would be.
The only thing I want to know is what did the humans do with all the dead aliens and tripods. did they learn from them and were now extremely advanced or did we just leave them there?
Once you know without a doubt that there can be others out there, you're going to do your best to get a technological jump on the competition. And recon is going to be one of your first priorities.
So I have a question n I noticed how a lot of people ignored this, if all the Power was out (not just houses; cars phones, watches basically anything electrical) how did that video camera work?!?! Lol

My dad rented this movie out from Blockbuster when I was 4. 14 years later this film is the most horrifying sci-fi film I've watched. Just sheer helplessness in the face of an enemy beyond our comprehension.
Imagine if this movie was R rated. We'd have more detail on how people are turned into red weed, we'd see people be pulled into the propeller of the boat, the vaporization would be more graphic with like a skeletal effect and blood flakes, we could have more cursing. This wasn't meant to be an action movie with a humanistic message like Independence Day or Armageddon so you might as well have pulled out all the stops with the terror factor.
The movie is already so morbid and bleak, but you’re right. You can tell that the PG-13 rating is holding it back from what Spielberg really wanted it to be.
5:13 this scene just gives me goosebumps! Its just shows the scary seemingly invinctible aliens coming up from behind that hill creating carnage ignoring the countless rockets and artillery firing at them, in addition there is that amazing soundtrack making it more menacing and powerful

I don't know about the rest of you, but if I saw that thing rising up out of the ground, I'd be running away so fast, there would be a literal dust trail behind me.

15 years later and about 50 times watching this movie, I still have goosebumps while listening to that sound....
That scene with the cage was the most terrifying in my opinion, concept wise it would be terrible to be in that situation
Tanner Bruning just think, you can't get out of the jail, you are trapped with a lot of people, waiting until that tongue-like tentacle sucks you and then who knows what would happen
Well that was there only source of food but they made a crucial mistake by eating them because they caught the diseases that the humans had and there immune system was different from ours so in a way it would have been terrible but it was the only way that we could win
I think those are harvesters, harvesting humans for their blood to be used as "fertilizers"
Tanner Bruning everything would be horrifying.
The vehicle decomposes the human body into biofuel I believe to power the vehicle and/or used as a fertilizer to make the planet hospitable to the alien race.
Am i the Only One That's curious about what a tripod looks Like on the inside? Is It organic? Is It Just like an advanced ship deck would look like? So many questions about the tripods, but we know very Little about them.
No your not, it looks really interesting in there. Too bad we only get to see so little
The idea was that the tripod was supposed to be like the aliens they would just sit in the chair and control it like it was just them walking normally just in giant machines but in this one there controlled by buttons n stuff
That’s part of the intrigue. The tripods are supposed to be mysterious vehicles.
Looks like a mixture of a combat vehicle and a harvester
The mystery of it is what immerses you and overall makes this a better movie.

I just recently experienced a bug earthquake in my country, you would be amazed at the amount of people who react in that way.

Exactly I wanna see the aliens fight that’s why we’re all here
It's a bit slow but it's an important part of the story, you see Tom Cruise's happy-go-lucky character growing up finally as he's not only lost his son but now has to murder a guy to protect his daughter. Also, there is a similar scene in the book that takes place in a house.
We need another movie
I really like the military. They are the guardians that the people had. While the civilians are running for their lives, the military are the ones that try to fight back ready to die if need be. In that war, they are the guardians of humanity.

For those who do not have the movie on netflix, Well, I'm Brazilian and I'm in Brazil, in my netflix war of the the worlds has already been released
Two words : land fill

Only things that were switched on would be affected by EMP.
DESTROYER DESTRUCTION military tech is usually shielded from EMPs for this reason.
@@MrCoolguy425 If the tech was off during an EMP then it will not be affected. EMP damages active electronics by creating electrical imbalances to circuit boards that makes them burn out. It's the same affect that plugging a 200volt input into a 50volt system.

- Black Widow : Where is this "Ray Ferrier" now Bruce???
- Bruce Banner : According to my coordinates, he is in the house of a man named Ogilvy along with his daughter Dakota, at this moment he is possibly taking a refuge to hide from the Tripods in case he and his daughter are not found.
- Captain América : Very well Avengers, listen, go around there, register the areas in case you find survivors still alive and whatever happens don't face those thing alone, understand???

- Captain América : All right, let's get this over with once and for all.
