I actually just got a 24 gmc at4x aev for $11400 off msrp. Other dealers only 6k off. I thought it was going to be bs, but nothing changed after going to the dealership and signing papers. I traded in a 24 colorado zr2 with 5800 miles. I absolutely love the at4x aev. Was not sure about the white, but I actually like it now, and there are no issues cleaning it yet. The ranger looks like a great truck but was not able to look at one near me, plus I got the gmc cheaper.
GMC Should add an AT4-R level to their lineup and add the 3.6 TT from the ct4-V blackwing into that thing, and do the same with the 1500 with the LT4 v-8
I love the powertrain options that Ford is offering and the Watts suspension is next level cool. The interior colors are better as well. Ford definitely has the better rear seats, GMC the better bed design with all the tie-down points and what appears to be a deeper bed. The GMC is clearly better when it comes to ground clearance, which is surprising as that has been a weak point for GM trucks up until the latest ZR2/AT4X verisons of their midsize and fullsize trucks. I hate the recent trend of white interior components, even if it's limited to small accents and headrests. Perfect for accidentally staining. I wish GM still had a diesel option in the midsize trucks. $68k is very steep but considering the 4th gen Taco TRD Pro starts at $65k and this is an AEV Bison edition which drives up the cost of any GM truck significantly, it's hard to break their balls for that. Both are cool trucks. They're aiming at slightly different off-road niches in this case so it's hard to pick a winner.
In Canada the raptor is 3k more and needs more aftermarket to bring it up to snuff so I went with the at4x. Knowing it's worth more down south is good for my resale. Definitely a standout looking vehicle, the raptor is too but you are probably right about the tires being the difference. The raptor doesn't have as mean of a front end.
Both great trucks, although a better comparison would be the standard AT4X, not the AEV. “Better” is very subjective, and in this case really depends what you want to do with it. Living in New England, the GM is the obvious choice for me.

The canyon is awesome and saying that I almost purchased one but that white interior in an off-road truck is the dumbest thing ever. My wife even made fun of that interior so I passed on it.
Since Ford dealers are marking up Ranger Raptors by 10K more there is no price advantage. I get the analysis but IRL the trucks will cost the same. In fact a GMC or Chevy dealer may give you the top-end trim at a bit below MSRP if you price shop. With Ford you will have to drive 1500 miles to find that one dealer who sells at sticker but they will have a 6-12mos waiting list. Happy to be wrong about this...
If you knew how little it costs Ford (or any manufacturer) to build a vehicle, compared to MSRP in the first place, you wouldn't blink an eye at a measly dealer markup.

I am ordering the Colorado ZR2 next week. I'm in Alaska so not a lot of areas for high speed off road antics plus it's a lot less exspensive than the Raptor. As far as sound goes they are not V8s so the quieter the better. I've never been into imports so the Raptor exhaust does nothing for me.
That GMC interior sure is pretty, but the white accents will look like shit in 2 or 3 years, just from the oil in your skin touching it…if you take it off road than that interior is toast.
70k for a midsize pickup with barely enough payload to fill the cab is unreal. You can’t do anything but off-road with it. If you tow with anything in the truck you’re going to be over payload.
When you talk off road capability , after low gears and lockers, your next want , is a way to inflate your tires . No one needs crawl control or cameras . Just a fast onboard air compressor .
I like them both, but I could use that front locker of the GMC for the boat ramp and deer lease. The Raptor price is great at MSRP but with dealer markups there won’t be any price difference between the two.
There is no ventilated seats correct in the Raptor - how about air vents in the back seat are there any? Thanks I know the Canyon has the ventilated seats.
I have had both, non AEV AT4x, I just bought my RR and the trucks are very different. Hated the the ugly interior in the AT4x. I love my RR. Fast 💨 love this truck
Both are good trucks. I think the Ranger is a little better than the GM. If GM would have increased the HP, Torque rating on the AT4X/Bison trim it would make the choice even more of a challenge. Also like the rear seating situation in the Ford especially when sticking kids in the rear occasionally.
Ford because of the V6 and I think it’s about as good looking. Plus the cheaper price tag. Even though the GMC is more luxury oriented, it’s a turbo 4. I can’t have that in a midsize truck nor would I be willing to pay that much for one.
Overall I like the Ford interior better and its power train. I would be happy with either if the backseats had 2-3 inches more legroom. The sweet spot for a midsize truck is probably the Rivian R1T but with a 5 ft bed vs their 4.5 ft. Meaning the rear legroom on the R1T is ideal without needing to jump to a huge full size truck. I supect the next generation if midsize trucks to all add 2-3 inches of rear legroom and 1 inch of HR bc everything is just getting bigger.
@@billsouza4457 Plus I have a Tundra with a bigger bed so I am good for real truck stuff. Was looking for fun offroad with gear in the back that would trash a SUV. But to your point the shorter wheelbase of an R1S would be good off trail. Also I meant 5.5 bed which full size trucks have as we know.

@@nm-qt2hb everyone who’s driven the ZR2 and AT4X Bison said the gearing wasn’t an issue. The Bison versions of the trucks were the intended design from the beginning. They’ve been in races more than a year ago. GM used the most technical and gnarly courses for the press release when journalists got to drive them. There’s plenty of videos of them going over boulders no problem.

I have to wonder if the ford will blow the motor. Like everything else they make ?? GMC haven’t heard of any major problems. I’d take the GMC. Don’t like the 8 speed but maybe it’s ok now.
There has been problems with both. GM has had issues with software and OTA updates killing the batteries etc. The ford quality issues have gotten better but overall still problematic.
I'll take the AT4X. Looks much more aggressive and has 35s/12in of clearance stock. Added clearance, AEV protection, and underbody cam makes it more capable on trails and rocks than Ranger..sure Ranger has more horsepower and sounds better, but I don't need 400hp going down off-road trails in Michigan.
The new Ranger is definitely getting on the top of my shopping list!

Why is the zr2 not getting compared directly to the raptor? That's the better comparison for features and price.

The GMC ventilated seats worked pretty well. The Ranger doesn’t have them.

No rear vents and no cooled seats in the Raptor. If you want motor go Raptor if you want looks and luxury go AT4X
Here in Canada the zr2 bison is the same price or less than the RR. The gmc is more than the Chevy which isn’t worth it to me.
Due to unavailable replacement parts from AEV I'm thinking the GMC would be written off even in a small collision.

If that Chevy Canyon had a normally aspirated V6 I might drive through the local GMC dealer and take a look at one. They are very nice looking.

Base on what? I have not yet see a good side by side off road video. I would not bench race these and make a judgement call yet.

The aev package is completely unnecessary and overpriced. Just stick with the regular at4x and save the 10k.
