I've been wanting to do this on my F350. If you are going to run that truck commercially, I would recommend installing a standard car horn so that when you get a DOT inspection, you can blow your "city" horn. I would install a toggle switch for city / air. No telling what would happen if you blast the officer with that as they certainly would not be expecting it. As for your installation, great attention to the little details!
Nicely done! The OEM horns come from Isuzu. Just picked my 5500 up last week, exact same truck as yours-red crew 4wd 84CA. Somewhat pleased with it. Few quality control issues to deal with but par for the course I guess. Pictures and videos don't do these trucks justice. When you actually walk up to one for the first time it's a bit of a shocker. Please keep up the great 5500 content. Thanks for taking the time.
In 2005&2006 I drove for a auto auction company delivering automobiles driving a 4500 and a 5500 Chevys with the Duramax lb7’s loved those trucks. But empty they could have used air ride. Today I have a very nice 2001 Chevy 2500HD Duramax with only 95,000 miles. I am from Central Kentucky .
That is some funny s***!!!! and it is very funny that you mentioned that because I just got my 6500 HD 2 weeks ago and when I heard that horn for the 1st time I almost fell out of the driver's sheet I have to do the same
@@chrisward405 any update now? How's the truck holding up? Any problems at all or any repairs done? Def system still working? Any power issues on hills or when hauling heavy?
All has been great!! I have 53,000 miles on the truck now. I did have it in the shop for a sensor in the overflow bottle and that's been it. I took the truck to Wyoming 2 separate times last year from Ohio pulling the camper and had no loss of power. 9mpg on long trips with the camper. Took it to Florida and done some hurricane clean up as well with my mini excavator and tractor. Just returned home Sunday from Kentucky as we went camping and riding over the weekend. I'll do an update video on it very soon
Replaced my RIDICULOUS 2020 International CV 515 (basically a Silverado 5500) with a Wolo Big Bad Max One Piece Air Horn. It took maybe 15 minutes and is VERY loud!!! Uses same wires as the stock one. No need for an air compressor and all that work! $40 total!!!!
This is crazy! My Ram 4500's steering box was replaced a year or so ago by a local shop, who I'm sure with all good intentions, broke the clock-spring in the steering column doing the job. Of course, all steering wheel buttons and operations ceased to work, including the horn. They rigged up a little $25 Isuzu-style horn that sounds like it was taken out of a 1982 Datsun. Did it work.... sure did, but boy did it garner crazy looks from DOT officers during roadside inspections! Furthermore, if someone cut me off - there was no sense in bothering honking as they never would've heard it anyhow LOL! Nice replacement on your part!
Semis need both the "sissy" horns and the air horns by DOT regs. The "sissy' horn is useful in enclosed areas or around the yard. The air horn excels on the highway.
I wrote them a decade ago when I bought my 2nd 2500 HD, that no vehicle that list for more than $30k should have single horn. That's a slap in the face, what would cost gm , $2 bucks for more customer satisfaction? Replaced mine with cheap air horns.

Not a problem.
I was going to say that it sounds just like my Isuzu NPR hd horn!
Agreed

Agreed. This truck could use air ride as well. It was not an option for the 4x4 line.

Lol sucks they went cheap on the horn but I have to say I still love the truck. I'm about to hit 36,000 miles and no complaints

Agreed. The new city horn is on the truck along with with the air horn. I installed a new city horn a couple weeks after I made the video

A lot of guys run them sideways to keep the snow and dirt out of them.
That's a great idea. I may spin mine a different way
OH wow. I thought that horn was a joke at first, but It really sounded like that? lol
Shit! I literally just signed my life away for a 22 Silverado 5500 today. I didn't know that horn was that stupid
Hahahahahahaha
Blow that horn with confidence 📯 🤣
Hahahahahahah

THANK GOD SOMEONE FINALLY MADE THIS VIDEO!’
Nice what it cost you?
Air horn kit was around $120
Dude you should point them straight down to keep the diaphragms clean, road still has grime
I'll eventually do something different with them lol
