I had on 05 c4500 , I have been contemplating getting a new one . Currently have a17 f250 powerstroke. My local dealer was telling me the chevy 4500 don’t have a great tow rating 🤷🏻♂️. Seems to work fine for you !
Great to see you were able to wring some significant power out of this truck. That will certainly help for the folks looking to make one of these an overland camping rig.
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE Yeah, I've been going back and forth between an F550 and one of these Silverados, and there are certain things that are giving the Silverado the edge right now. Being able to get some bigger power numbers out of the Silverado is a game changer when added to the other features I like. Keep up the good work :)
What tuner you run efi live? I have a H&S minimaxx on my lml duramax 3500 fully deleted and it makes amazing power and you can't feel anything behind you while towing
2 questions? 1- Will your 5500 now putting out over 1 thousand lbs of torque will it spin or chirp the four rear tires?? 2- I have a 2019 3500HD duel wheel steel flatbed regular cab diesel 6 speed 40,000 miles on it. Can the same or similar setup be done to it to raise the horsepower and torque numbers ? 3rd question (SORRY) I said two questions. 3- On your 5500 when you raised the horsepower and torque numbers did that increase your road speed limit ??? My 3500HD 1 ton tops out at 97 mph sometimes I’ve seen 99. Not too often do I run that speed but on the Hwy if you don’t pay attention to your speed you will stay in that area with very little trouble. I pull a 32ft LoadTrail flatbed with mega ramps with little effort loaded and empty but it sucks fuel like mad. Empty bob tailing I can see just over 700 miles on a fill up of 60 gallons factory fuel tanks. I don’t want to race my truck but just having the extra power is nice. Thanks Liked Subscribed & Shared
1 She will do burn outs if called upon😂 2 Yes sir 3 We will red line the rpm’s before we run out of MPH ! 130 I believe sir ! We use this truck 100% as it was built for to pull heavy load , get the best mileage possible and make the engine life longer than it would off the lot !
why bother? the 3500 is rated for MORE GCWR. with MORE power right out of the box! these medium duty trucks were built to be vocational trucks ( mechanics truck, flatbed car hauler, box truck ect...) NOT tow rigs. they ARE rated for more GVWR which basically means they are built to take the weight ON the truck, NOT on the trailer. plus anything over 26k you need a cdl. how much does that HUGE heavy steel trailer weight? ( im guessing around 10k ) so im guessing you have a LEGAL payload of ... around .... 5000 lbs . ?? it's all fun and games until the trooper pulls out the portable scales ... but hey, on the plus side, it DOES ride like a buckboard wagon!
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE i like the way they look ... but the weight ratings are HALF of what they SHOULD be! edit: good job with the truck! think the transmission will hold 2x the power?
Other than some up pipes to match the stock L5P turbo, did you guys keep all of the stock charge pipes? Do these medium dutys have a bigger intercooler than the 2500/3500 platform? Also what about some piping upgrades for this truck! I know Wherli built one for himself too but havent seen any engine updates for the 5500s
So is there software on it that limits power in lower gears or is it just your dyno can't load it hard enough for the actual power it makes to show up? I seen some smoke that second run bound to be knocking on the door of some high egts for a long pull.
I don't think the Duramax bottom end even when built can handle 2200 lb/ft. Even our Cummins tend to split blocks at will around that 2k mark. I know the L5P is an animal, but that's a tall order. I would certainly tune in for that though.
So I work for navistar for 11 year I had part in developing this truck and yes they are meant to pull and adding all the extra power the cooling pack will not be able to handle its way to small for that extra power and the reasons they are down tuned it’s becuz of dot regulations it had to be a specific power to weight. They are regulated
I own a fleet maintenance company and out of genuine curiosity...what DOT regulation requires class 3 - class8 trucks need to have a certain power : weight ratio? I've never heard of this. I was under the impression that they were de tuned for longevity and comfort
There are no dot regulations It's all about how the government dyno them And they are detuned for longevity. Normally these trucks are not owner operated And they get beat to all hell
@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE have you guys done the ram 5500 yet? I got a 21, 5500 limited with a eby bed on it I've towed 41k with it, hwo much can the trannys take are they the weak point still?
3 Big Questions - Are you going to post videos of towing massive loads with this setup? -Will the mods you performed void warranty? -Could you simply install an L5P ECM with the L5P turbo and essentially have an L5P (injectors too if necessary), then flip back to your L5D ECM for warranty dealings?

that is the perfect power range for a truck that size it make the engine live up to the rest of the truck I am hoping to have one around spring time
