Hey old pal. I recieved my Tecova Cartwright scotch goat boots two days ago. They are awsome, they fit well and are very comfortable. My first disappointment when I opened the box was, the round Tecovas sticker that holds the two ends of the packing paper together was missing, and the packing paper was wrinkled as if the boots may have been previously unpacked and possibly sent back for whatever reason. Also there was no koozie in the box. The cost of the boots today is $375.00, $100.00 more than last year. This is my second pair of Tecovas, first being the Johnny boots where this was not the case all was intact. Other than those concerns I love the boots. I have had my Tecova Johnny boots for about 5 years now and their awsome no complaints, hopfully I get the same results + with the Cartwrights. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video.
Didn't know the price had risen a hundred bucks in a year, but I guess that's the economy in which we live. Tecovas prides itself on customer service, so I'm surprised the presentation of your new boots were less than stellar. Even with the minor issues, I love my Cartwrights and hope you have the same experience. Thanks for watching!
I have this same pair and have worn them quite often over the period of 3 years. They are some of the best boots I've worn. Mine are comfortable and fit great with cowboy cut Wranglers. The color of the boots came in and I just clean them up w/ some leather cleaner about twice a year and the goat skin color comes right back in. Great review and thanks for sharing.
Yeah, it's about time for me to give this pair another Bick 4 conditioner bath. I really like mine even with the minor issues and am glad you enjoy yours, as well. Thanks for watching.
I bought these boots a year ago based on your review. Great follow up as usual. I agree that the shafts are narrow and putting them on can cause me to get winded. My balls also hurt after wearing them all day but I still love them (the boots not my balls). Anyhow keep the videos coming. Great editing. Cheers
I’ve had a pair of the Earl goat ropers for about a year and a half, wear a couple days a week. I condition them at least weekly, if not they don’t just look “distressed”, they look beat to hell. They look great after conditioning and have been the most comfortable pair I own.
Thank you! I own a pair of tecovas smooth ostrich. So far so good. About a year in on them, and they are comfortable and look great! I also have the pegs sliding out a little. I’m tempted to put a little glue on them and push them back in. When I can afford them, I’ll get a pair of Chisos or even Luchesse. Also to note, I had an issue with their customer service or lack thereof…
I have a pair of calfskin Cartwrights and they are rather loose around the top of the shaft, I can easily fit 1 fingers between my calf and the shaft and they breathe great. Southern California weather is reaching the 100s right now, but it’s not humid at all here
Alabama is so humid at times that it literally takes your breath away when you walk outside, and that's even after I've lived here all of my life. If you have room in the top of your Tecovas, you must not be an amply-girthed, big-legged dude like me. In any case, I love my Tecovas and am glad you like yours, too. Thanks for watching.
I have a pair of Tecovas ranch boots, called Bandera. They have a rubber outsole so there are no lemonwood pegs to worry about. I wear them on average of once per week and after about eight months they still look new except for the boot jack scuffs. I think they run a bit large, because after a full day of wear it feels like my foot has "slid down the ramp" from the high heel and my toes hurt because my foot feels too forward in the boot. I cannot size down because I already know those would be too small: my first pair was a half size down and I could not get my foot past the bottom of the shaft and into the boot, so I sized up (meaning that if you order Tecovas, order your tennis shoe size and not your usual boot size). Like History Nerd, I could probably benefit from a new insole insert.
Tecovas says their boots run true to size. Amazon sells a silicone insert that goes in the toe of your boot and sizes it down. I use them in a pair of too big boots, and it works well for me. Look up “Shoolex shoe filler” on Amazon. Thanks for watching.
I own a suede pair of Tecovas roper boots I bought lightly used that I only wear once in awhile, most recently at a George Strait concert. Good into about the pegs, I will have to watch out for that. Can I recommend a pair of Russell Moccasins boots for you if you don't already own a pair. They are the most comfortable legacy boots I know of, and offer Safari style models made for high temps. They are pricey but hard to beat for comfort and durability.
Hi, great review! Quick question... do they wear true to size or sis you have to size up/down? Im looking to get into a Tecovas "The Doc" boot and I want to make sure I order the right size. Im in Canada, so no access to an actual store. I'm aware that Tecovas does not ship to Canada, but there is a service that takes care of that... just rather not return them due to size... thanks!
I think I noted in the video that Tecovas makes it easy on its customers and runs true to size. The website even recommends ordering your true size. Thanks for watching.
Have you tried the "Dean" in scotch goat skin with side zip? They have a shorter shaft. I have large calfs also. I can leave the zip an inch down from the top for more comfort
Thanks for the suggestion, but I just can't go with the side zipper boots. The solution to the tight boot dilemma lies in the fact that the ol' History Nerd needs to lose a lot of weight. Appreciate you viewing my channel!
I got my first pair of cowboy boots at boot barn yesterday. The right boot size 10 fit perfectly. The left boot was loose. Clerk put in an insole to make left boot tighter. Works now. Is this common for boots. Never had this problem with sneakers or dress shoes. Anyone else here with this problem? Maybe I should have got a 9.5 for left and 10 for right, but expensive getting two pairs. Thanks.
I've never experienced the issue, nor am I aware of anyone else - must just be that brand of boot. Sounds like you should buy one pair of nicer boots that come in the right size rather than two pairs of the brand with crazy size issues. Thanks for watching!
They are a great looking pair of boots but I have legs like high line poles and some boots are just too tight on the calves, that limits my choice of boots.
I looked at the Rujo boots website based upon your recommendation and saw a pair of caiman tail boots that I'm itching to buy. You may have just cost me around $400, Chief. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching the channel.
@@historynerdsmancave7567they are also more comfortable than Tecovas. I own both. Me personally however, prefer the Tecovas solely for the smaller shaft width. I was blessed with chicken legs, so that’s the reason.
If I’m going to spend the few hundred bucks that boots cost, I’m going to buy them from a company that made its bones from making boots, not hats. Thanks for the suggestion, though, and thanks for watching.

I guess these boots are kind of like women - we put up with their eccentricities and issues because we love them. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Lmao 😂. Hilarious review.

What do you condition with?
Thanks for the update. We appreciate it.
I really like the look of these boots. I can’t decide if I want these or Tecovas Roper boot “The Earl”.
I have the earl in the goat.. Great boots. You can't go wrong with either

Never thought about a touch of glue. I might give it a shot. Thanks for watching.
Excellent choice! I know, I have the same boots 😂

I will check out the Russell Moccasins as soon as I finish typing this reply. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching the channel.

@historynerdsmancave7567 Fair, I asked because online some say they run a bit big and to order a half size down... thanks for the reply.
Thanks!
I wish they would sell B-width sizes. I could never get a Tecovas boot to fit right
🎉🎉🎉🎉Good looking Boots 🎉🎉🎉

Fellow, big guy here. Tried dickies compression socks. The long ones. They will help with the tightness around the shaft.
Sounds like Spanx for boots. I’ll keep an eye out for some. Thanks…and thanks, too, for watching.

Take the boots to a cobbler & have the tops stretched.
They are a great looking pair of boots but I have legs like high line poles and some boots are just too tight on the calves, that limits my choice of boots.
You and me both, Bubba, you and me both... Thanks for always watching my videos!
I got smooth ostrich
Smooth ostrich, huh? I'm not sure I could rock the full quill, either. Thanks for watching.
I like the full quill too, smooth ostrich is less expensive and they are quite comfortable
Try Rujo boots. Wider shaft.
I looked at the Rujo boots website based upon your recommendation and saw a pair of caiman tail boots that I'm itching to buy. You may have just cost me around $400, Chief. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching the channel.

Bick 4 is not a good conditioner for those boots! Get you some Saphir Oiled Leather conditioner.
I use Bick 4 on all of my boots, but I’ll go check out the Saphir conditioner right now. Thanks for the tip and for watching.
How hot is it down yonder? 😂
You like Stetson hats and you like cowboy boots, what about Stetson boots?
If I’m going to spend the few hundred bucks that boots cost, I’m going to buy them from a company that made its bones from making boots, not hats. Thanks for the suggestion, though, and thanks for watching.
