I’m a fan of John Wayne’s movies not necessarily his politics but that’s neither here or there. Great hat and great review. Might need to add this hat to my collection. Thanks for sharing 👍
I volunteer at a nursing home, and take a 97 year old warhorse marine out for rides!Rod, wounded in battle, is one of the few remaining survivors of Iwo Jima! I’d like to believe that like Rod, John Wayne, if he were alive today would have an evolved a modern perspective on race and society. Besides, in spite of all the negative things I’ve heard, JW is still in some of my all time favorite movies like “ In Harms Way, the War Wagon … and how many times have I watched Rio Bravo? 🤷♂️I like that hat!
I also grew up watching the Duke with my dad and even ended up joining his fraternity Sigma Chi when I was in college. Was glad to be able to take my dad to see the John Wayne Experience recently. Well worth a trip to Fort Worth and you will enjoy that it’s located in the stockyards area so everything around it is also western related. I live in the DFW area so I enjoying going there.
The audio and video quality is good. That is a nice piece of headgear! Good lines and one that I would be proud to own and wear. And as to those individuals who find themselves disliking John Wayne, I'll reserve my genuine comments. Instead, I'll just give the watered-down version. Pray I never see you in person. 😠 Thanks for your dedication and time to bringing detailed attention and experience to those of us with similar interests.
I was lucky! I grew up near Los Angeles. Across from Paramount studios on Gower was the Formosa cafe. Built from an old dining car and dumpy. Out front were two parking spots for John Wayne and Maureen O’hara. Many a time I’d see them and have a drink there with them! Duke lived in Newport beach and he could be seen at the Ralph’s supermarket regularly always friendly to all! I was lucky!
👍 Enjoy your new hats & thank you for alerting me to the John Wayne Experience in Fort Worth. John Wayne was born in 1907. It is ridiculous to judge a person by the moral standards of the last part of the 20th Century and the 21st Century. If judged it should against the standards and norms of that person’s day. One might disagree with some of John Wayne’s political and social comments and/or actions, but that is the GREAT thing about Free Speech, we all get to form our own opinions and speak those opinions. I disagree with some of what John Wayne said, but he was true to the standards and norms of his upbringing in the early 20th Century. My Dad was born in 1912 and was also trying true to his time. The important thing to remember is that Mr. Wayne and my Dad were professionals who worked hard, raised their families with love and were true to their beliefs. Glad you have very fond memories of watching Marion Robert Morrison movies with your Dad.
My wife laughed when she walked by me watching your video. Your comments on the John Wayne haters were very funny and on point. Like you I grew up watching John Wayne and love his movies . Why anyone that saw this was a John Wayne hat Review and hater and chose to watch anyway is beyond me. Your assessment that they are idiots and what they can do with their hats is spot on. I really liked the look of this hat and ordered one from Stetson. This will be my range hat . I can’t think of anything better than honoring this hat and the man it’s named after than shooting six shooters and lever rifles at the range. Great video as usual. I’m glad to see will be seeing a couple more hat reviews in the near future.
Thanks for the kind words about the video and channel. I just told my wife, "See, at least some people think I'm funny," to which she replied, "They haven't had to live with you for 30 years..."
@@historynerdsmancave7567 lol your wife has a sense of humor as well! I showed my wife this response and she laughed. She was listening to the video and said she appreciated your response to the John Wayne haters and really liked the history behind the hats and your presentation. I was watching your 10x Rancher video and the history behind Stetson and she found that really interesting. She said that you were a kindred spirit because of your bluntness and lack of political correctness. High praise from my wife who like you I believe does not suffer fools well.
While at the John Wayne Museum this past June I met and shook Ethan Wayne's hand. Made my day, Spent the next hour and a half going through the museum, worth every minute.
Regarding the hat: I was about to buy a Stageline from the John Wayne Stock & Supply Store but it turned out they only had black ones in stock instead of the "Oak" color I wanted. So I bought the Blackthorne instead. The brim is shaped like the Stageline's (which isn't quite to my taste with the up-sweeps on the edge) but I like the hat band a lot, and it fit me perfectly right out of the box which had never happened before. The box for the Blackthorne also noted the "wool blend" and by the feel of the felt, I believe it likely has bison wool (like they use in the Buffalo Collection hats) blended with the sheep wool in order to make this "signature series" longer-lasting and a bit more weather-resistant. Regarding the jackasses who don't like John Wayne: I will wholeheartedly confirm that they are indeed jackasses, and I agree that they can just go "crap in their hat". Furthermore I will declare that it's completely un-American to dislike John Wayne and anything he stood for, excepting perhaps the drinking and the smoking that contributed to his demise.
The Blackthorne hat band is a bit much for me, but I'm certainly glad you're happy with the purchase. I love the hats in the John Wayne collection, but a lot of them do not come in the XXL size my giant head requires. Your assessment of the wool blend is likely spot on. The hat I will unbox in my next video is from the Stetson Buffalo Collection, so it is bison wool.
I hope it's the Drifter that you're about to unbox, and if so then I think you'll like it. That's my everyday-wear hat in the cooler months. Just bought a new one three weeks ago because after eight years of sweat-without-care the leather sweatband was disintegrating even though the felt is just fine.
The history nerd man Caveman!!! Greetings, I am Your Fan and I do not miss any of your reviews of hats and boots and although I am from Puerto Rico, I greatly admire and respect the culture of the American West. In fact, they call me THE COWBOY because that is how I dress. I have participated in rodeos in my country and I am a great defender and admirer of John Wayne's movies, just like you, my father and older brother, both already deceased, also watched them with me when I was a child and I really enjoyed how you put those idiots who speak ill of the “in their place.” DUKE” hahahahahaha😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😅 WELL DONE a virtual hug my FRIEND 🤠 from the island of enchantment 🇵🇷
It’s always fun to hear from viewers from other area of the world, especially ones as enthusiastic as you. Keep holding up the tradition, and keep watching the channel, Bubba. I’m sure you’d make ol’ John Wayne proud.
Can you get a hold of the John Wayne peacemaker hat? It’s got the initials JW in it on the satin lining. I’m really close to thinking about buying that, but I’d rather get a good review on the hat first.
Is it really all that important to love everything that an entertainer does to enjoy their work? I don't think so but then again I'm a live and let live kind of fellow. That hat looks like a bargain at $150 with or without the Duke on the box.
Stetson recently lowered free shipping from $175 to $99 but also increased prices of many of their hats, some dramatically. I had been waiting for multiple to come in stock for weeks if not months and finally did... and price when they finally offered them went from $130 to $155. That is a lot for a simple shantung straw hat, I am pretty annoyed at this tactic as it is the third time they have cranked prices since last March on stuff I wanted.
Not a Timex. It’s a Casio GShock GAB2100C and is very popular among us adventurous tough guy types. Well…I aspire to be an adventurous tough guy type, but it’s a cool watch nevertheless. Check it out online.
It's entirely possible to enjoy and admire someone's art while simultaneously holding that person in contempt. That said, I'll go ahead and shit in my hat now. I love your channel, just like I love John Wayne movies!

Great looking hat. I sure wish Stetson would ship to Canada.
Stetson used to have a factory in brockville! Where all those Mountie hats were made…
Lammles sells Stetson products and they are in Alberta I believe.
@ that’s true but they can’t seem to bring in just anything. They are limited for some reason.
I am a huge John Wayne fan I am named after one of his army movies and after his last name in rio bravo
Great video!

Thank you for the video. I also like John Wayne very much, so I fully agree with, what you said about, what people should do who don't like him...

Very cool hat, I love John Wayne. A video on his boots would be cool.
Awesome hat and video, History Nerd!
Another great story and hat!
That's a fine hat. Nobody cares about the X factor if it looks great. And it does.
My family love JW.

John Wayne and the legendary cowboy .. as American as Apple Pie
LOL! As American as hamantaschen!
(It was just Purim, so "hangin' 'em high" and eating pastry ears was on my mind.)

Love the videos friend.
Love the Duke ❤❤❤
I appreciate the visual aids.
It also made me laugh.

Hat look-in good on ya.
Is the color the same as the Powder River?
Pretty dang close, Bubba, pretty dang close. The Powder River might be a hair of a shade lighter…but what the hell do I know? Thanks for watching.
that hat looks good
What color is the hat? It looks darker than the one worn by Mr. Wayne in the photos we saw.
It’s brown, or, according to the Stetson box, the color is “Dark Oak.” Remember it’s an “inspired by” hat and not an exact replica.
is that a photo of Mr Wrestling No1 or 2 over your right shoulder?
Good eye you've got there, Chief. It's Mr. Wrestling II - aka Johnny Walker - one of my boyhood heroes from Georgia Championship Wrestling.
@@historynerdsmancave7567 Oh yeah with Gordon Solie on WTBS
Where did you get that stand?
Amazon has everything…
Looks like a redesigned raylan Marshall hat
