I got cystic acne at 39 and my skin was going crazy around my jawline, chin and chest. I challenged my insurance when they refused to cover my treatment and the person I spoke to was very sympathetic and I got it covered. I do have to get recertified every 3 years but so far so good. I went on spironolactone 50mg, Retin-A, azelaic acid from the dermatologist. This worked great but a few years we went to 100mg and kept the others but included a benzoyl peroxide face wash. I am now the happy owner of clear skin with one or two breakouts a year if that! I stan science. Thanks for your no BS videos!
The felt experience of someone with severe acne scarring is comparable to experiencing mutilation. Mostly because it's facial. Your beauty is taken away, changes in lighting suddenly reveal a grostesque attribute to your facial features to others. Being aware of that makes you want to not be seen. In addition to dealing with that loss, you have to deal with people who lie to you. You knpw how perfectionistic women are about their appearence and yet they pretend your scars are not a big deal. The way we judge ourselves is the way we judge others.
Acne starts from your gut! If you do a food intolerance test, see which foods you are intolerant to and eliminate them from diet and you will see a big improvement
I was actually expecting a video from you about scarring and here it is! I have slight atrophic scarring on my cheek areas after severe cystic acne and those areas are photosensitive, I can't walk outside without a mask or sunscreen. Im taking Vitamin A (Oxidox capsules) supplements from my dermatologist and now I'll talk to him about topical retinoids too. Thanks for helping me out, giving suggestions on this as IMO acne scars are worse than just acne.
My 15 yr old son was put on Accutain for 5 months and omg it is a miracle pill. No side effects what so ever. The amount of monitoring they did to make sure he had no side effects was huge and much appreciated. Now he is on tretinoin cream and although he has very minimal scaring we are moving forward with microneddling. My husband and I have never suffered with acne and it is so heartbreaking seeing your child go through it especially when it's so bad you have to be put on Accutain.
Your son is very lucky for having a good and responsible doctor. I was put on Accutane when I was 17 and the side effects were horrible. Extreme drying and itching, especially all over my back. And my dermatologist never followed up or gave me tips to prevent the side effects.
@@Eirruh I was on Accutane for 6months, my skin and scalp got really dry in the beginning. My lips were always really dry, and I felt like I had to put on lip balm every couple of minutes. Try eating mung beans daily. It is a detox food that cools you down. You will start to grow clear skin, which will replace the old, scarred skin. You will see results in weeks.
For me I have dark spot acne scars all over my face, my skin is good for the most part with no bumps or texture, but the dark spots look like acne, they are light in the center and make it look bumped! It’s so annoying!!
Ive done micro dermabrasion, chemical peels, microneedling, fully ablative laser resurfacing (that's under anesthesia, performed by a surgeon with 6 months heal time), subscision, and filler. I still have pretty severe scars. Nothing has worked for me. I do think the medical grade skincare I've been using has made a huge difference in texture. Ultimately, though, you just kind to have to learn to live with it. I've found that people really aren't that superficial in real life, unless they're young or generally shallow.
Thank you for this content. It's so rare and valuable to get accurate and transparent skin care information. It would be amazing if you could do a video on how to reduce hyper-pigmentation from stubborn old spots. I don't have raised tissue but after the active spot is gone i am always left with red/purple marks.

I hope one day it will be clear skin somehow because they are just really against accutane 😭😭
is it true that scar treatment like micro needling and laser therapy only make sense after the acne calmed down? So that there are no new scars incoming even after spending all that money on the scar treatment because of new acne
@@usamasyed is this only because the treatment is expensive and otherwise it would have to be done twice because new scars appear? Or would it have consequences to undertake a microneedling or laser treatment while still getting outbreaks sometimes
I think it’s also important to note those who are considering Lasering that many clinics use lasers that work well with those on the Fitzpatrick scale of 1-2 (skin type) and can cause scaring to those with more melanin rich skin. Those with more hyperpigmentation prone skin have to opt for a laser known as Nd:YAG which is often more expensive. At least that is my experience. Would be great to see an efficacy comparison between Nd:YAG and Microneedling so can channel the funds for the most effective treatment for those of darker skin tones.
Yep. A fully ablative CO² fractional laser isn't suitable for Fitzpatrick scale 3 and darker. In my country, we use a mildly ablative CO² fractional laser because it's sunny all year and most people are on Fitzpatrick scale 3 and darker. It's not nearly as effective as the fully ablative ones, but it's quite effective for moderate pigmentation and mild scars. People with severe acne scars are usually given 2-4 treatments at once - they usually consist of subsicion, tca cross, prp, and CO² fractinal laser. And while insurance can't cover those treatments, it's fairly cheap to get those combined treatments - around $100-$300 here.

APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE TO YOU FOR BEING SO BRUTALLY HONEST ! I have suffered my whole entire life with box scars and indented rolling scars and w/ laser treatments that I have used didnt really help me. Now that I'm 68 yrs. old, I recently had microneedling and I've had 8 sessions which cost me a lot and yet, my scars have only improved about 50 %. I'm thinking of getting more sessions just to hopefully get me a smoother skin. You're right, INSURANCE IS CRAZY FOR NOT HAVING THESE TYPE OF CONDITION BEING COVERED ! I wish I can afford to get a fat transfer and fillers . I also began using some type of Retinol but I know I will have to continue w/ more microneedling. I'm not exctly sure about PRP. I admire your honesty and YOU ARE THE ONLY DOCTOR that I have seen in YOU TUBE that describes reality about acne scars. More power to you !
What about hyperpigmentation acne scars? I was told by my dermatologist that there are no treatments other than lightening ointments. Is this truly the case?
i’m going to the derm soon because of hyperpigmentation scars, they are just flat but dark and i hateee them. hopefully i will be able to get something prescribed

I went in for a consultation for my acne scars at this one place and the bundle price for 3 treatments for microneedling was $1400. I couldn't afford it, but the lady wanted to help me out so she gave me half off so now I've been going for over a year now and I am going to get my 5th microneedling treatment next month.
I had my third eye open when I found out that there's not ONE cream that helps heal acne scars and had to accept reality of the situation. I don't have severe acne scars but it's there and very visible. I am curious though, can I buy the micro needle tool and use it myself? Are there even legitimate one's available in the market or are they all just scams?
For resistant scars , subcision and nano fat transfer can be the last hope and micro needling as a follow up after every 3 months till next 2 years , use of retinol 2.5% serum at bed time may also help
Didn't you previously say you weren't going to make another skincare video? Lol. Guess we shouldn't make ultimatums when we have no intention to stick to them. Stop the "content-creator" trend of lying for views and engagement.
@Z. M perhaps it’s because I “watched more closely” that I said what I said. Acne scaring and it’s prevention/treatment is still skincare related. He previously stated that he was going to rebrand his channel into a life-and-wellness channel. To make a statement like 95% of creators are trying to scam you with baseless recommendations is bizarre. Especially because there are more mediums of information dissemination than UA-cam.
Dang you totally right. I do my first micro needling this year and feel like nothing happened. The second one my doctor also suggest to do subcision. Now i already have 4 session and see the result. Thanks a lot for this information. I really hope back then i already now this.
Hi Dr. Usama. Love your content! Can you please make a video for eye care? eye bags and eye circles? There is a lot of garbage about how to get rid of them and nothing scientifically-based. Hence, I am sure your viewers would appreciate one! Thanks!
How come they don't heal on their own? Based on what you explained, I would imagine those poorly laid down collagen would get rotated through during cell turnover. Does it not? Or does the body keep laying new cells in the same old spots?
Acne scarring has ruined my life I don’t date anymore I don’t leave the house I don’t do nothing all because of my acne scars to make it worse I have a job where I get covered in dirt, dust and sweat all day and it makes thing so much worse I really just am waiting until i die. Sometimes I feel like I’m an inmate sentenced to a life of isolation and depression in solitary confinement and I’m just so tired of not having decent skin I don’t seven need good skin I want okay skin
I really like this video and your honesty. I wouldn't however pick on these so called 'hippies' for giving very worthwhile input on health warnings beyond skincare. People are very easily influenced by an easy fix, especially when recommended by a doctor but there are other doctors who have dedicated their lives to the interactions of the body as a whole and would disagree with the abundant prescription of medication. As a healthcare professional you should always be open to new opinion, and it is worrisome how fast you shoot these people down. For people experiencing highly inflamed skin, diet plays a huge role. Cutting out foods that upset the gut will absolutely help.
Had the opposite in my case. Had 9 sessions of micro needling and saw no results. Only treatments I’ve had where I’ve seen some improvement was subcision
I have been facing acne for 2 years and now I’m really tired. I have got rid of them one time.It came again on my face and now I did all the things to get rid but all in vain (my health is not too good)
BTW do you know there is actually a "natural" skin care company called Mad Hippie? LOL...and they show the infamous before and after acne scarring photos.
Stretch marks I don’t know why I keep getting them what can I do for them my weight isn’t fluctuating too much but I have a lot of them mine are long indented lines across various part of my body
Don’t know why I never see this on dermatology channels, but two burdock root extract and acupuncture heal acne. According to TMC, acne is heat. When I had terrible acne, after one treatment, it cleared up in two days. The trick is that you need to find a good acupuncturist who knows how to clear the heat on the proper channels.
From my experience with treating my acne scarring *laser was the biggest lie save your time and money * Micro needling is a meh do it if you have social occasion or something it will give you an edema that will last for a week it’s may help the way you’re skin look for a short time * never under any circumstances let any doctor convince you into Subssision doesn’t work risky and could stretch out your skin. * surgical Dermabrasion worked for me.

"not biologically" females also use spironolactone:) and "biologically females" who take testosterone should avoid spironolactone cause it doesn't make sense take them together:)
I had a subscion done a few years back on a deep scar Even with the numbing afterwards felt kind of painful But definitely stimulated the collagen inside Thankfully my scar wasn’t that deep to receive fillers too It’s perfect now the way it is from where it was
Could a phenol peeling also help get rid of acne scars? It's a bit extreme and controversial, but could it get rid of them permanently and would it be safe to try?

Honestly I hear this kind of thing so, so often with my patients in clinic. There are definitely cosmetic treatments that can help significantly, but they’re so expensive that most people can’t afford them, which is terrible. I do recommend seeing a local derm, though, who can help try to prevent further scarring and prescribe you some things that could help.
Hey, I just wanted to say that I know it feels tragic right now because you’re still mourning what your skin used to look like, and that’s really normal and okay to feel such sadness and despair, because it is a really hard thing to go through. But just so you know, the people who look past stuff like acne scars will far outweigh the people who fixate on it. There will be many people who still find you just as attractive even with scars, and won’t be bothered by it at all. When someone tells you that you are handsome, believe them and don’t second guess it, because they are saying the truth. Human beings have a special ability to see each other through a “lense of love”. I promise you that the people you meet that are really into you and feeling love for you are going to see you as truly stunning, regardless of some acne scars. The people who criticize your skin, are ones who are deeply tormented inside their own heads, so they feel the need to point out flaws in everyone around them to try and make others feel insecure. That is a very sad life for them. Ignore those petty people, focus on the ones that uplift you..: and look forward to the day that you are making your appointments to get your micro needling and laser treatments! Set a goal to save up for it… and even if it takes 10 years to reach that… you’ll be walking this earth with glowing skin and a glowing heart because you walked through dark times and came out on the other side stronger and wiser. Good luck to you

I took Accutane as a teen two separate times for severe, cystic acne for which I was incessantly bullied for at school. I can't tell you how many times I desperately sought out creams and ointments for my scars. Thanks for being so authentic about the most effective treatments. Wish this video existed back then to spare me the agony of my failed searches.
Honestly, it’s comments like this that motivate me to keep making these videos. Really glad you got the help you needed in the end! 🙌🏼
How was the accutane experience for you? Did it stop your acne for good?
@@monikamadaan7020 I have low immune but digestion process is faster as my intestine and liver doesn’t absorb much from food. I had accurate for a month and stopped because it was affecting mental health and calcium. So doctor advised vitamin D3 so that body can absorb calcium and vitamin B12 for hormones and immune.
I have stopped drinking milk and eating chocolates. But antibiotics helped a lot.
Learn to manage acne I believe. I’m suffering from this chronic disease from 4 years. I take meds and it stops but again I got twice due to stress.
But from last one month I have started doing se stressing activity, meditation and read positive books. I’m happy and gaining weight
Acne are under control also it doesn’t leave scars and dark spots because I’m using the world’s bestttt combination during night that’s niacinamide and Adaplene with good amount of moisturizer.
Drinking fruit juices and also about to start vegan protein powder which will help more.
You should definitely try accutane for a month because it is life changing; many friends of mine had taken just for a month and they have beautiful skin. The only con is it may affect physical health but you can manage them smartly.
I’m definitely going to try micro needling ❤
still posting skincare videos huh?
Yep!
Random question, who edits your videos? They are amazing !!!!!
Great regimen!!
I bet you’re someone who never had cystic acne

I was actually expecting a video from you about scarring and here it is! I have slight atrophic scarring on my cheek areas after severe cystic acne and those areas are photosensitive, I can't walk outside without a mask or sunscreen. Im taking Vitamin A (Oxidox capsules) supplements from my dermatologist and now I'll talk to him about topical retinoids too. Thanks for helping me out, giving suggestions on this as IMO acne scars are worse than just acne.
Hi bro where are u from in India
You get used to it though. There's a bunch of other side effects that you might experience, but your dermatologist will discuss it with you and let you know the side effects before putting you on.
Maybe you could kindly read her comment before asking a question
accutain can help to fix acne scar?
@@zuharu9615 no, but tretinoin can improve appearance of a scar.

For me I have dark spot acne scars all over my face, my skin is good for the most part with no bumps or texture, but the dark spots look like acne, they are light in the center and make it look bumped! It’s so annoying!!
OMG, I love your content, Style of speaking, humor, and most importantly, your honesty. KEEP it GOING
Thanks my bro!
A phenol peel works wonders on deep scars
Microneedling worked for me. I did five treatments and it cleared up most of my acne scars.
When done right, microneedling is excellent!
I hope you are more active on UA-cam. We need a derm like you to educate the UA-cam community on skincare.
Thank you for this content. It's so rare and valuable to get accurate and transparent skin care information. It would be amazing if you could do a video on how to reduce hyper-pigmentation from stubborn old spots. I don't have raised tissue but after the active spot is gone i am always left with red/purple marks.
Will add it to my list!

Subcision with deep microneedling pen aleast 6 sessions lastly one good 2.8 depth C02 fractional laser however supplements or skin creams plus medicine are required for acne . I had scar , I took these procedure now my skin is glass baby skin.
The fact that you had to say "biological females" shows how far western society has fallen.
I tried everything. Only microneedling worked. Did my scars disappeared? No, but diminished 70%
What topical did you use following micro needling?
Plzzz make a video on ACCUTANE oral prescription plss....
I did 12 sessions of microneedling
I don't know when i see results but my scars are still there i am jsut 20 years old
Literally i have tired every single flippin thing except for accutane but I can't do that because one of my parent is againts it eventhough I've had absolutely severe painful acne for 6+ years 😭💔 and the fact that I know for sure its from genetics just makes it pretty clear that I have to give accutane a go one day after watching this ☹ it all makes sense how all these creams and acid done in dermatology offices aren't working... I hope one day it will be clear skin somehow because they are just really against accutane 😭😭
Sounds like you should see a derm with your parents there so you can all discuss the pros and cons together!
make sure to put them in a retirement home as soon as you can

is it true that scar treatment like micro needling and laser therapy only make sense after the acne calmed down? So that there are no new scars incoming even after spending all that money on the scar treatment because of new acne
I tend to agree with this. Always best to stop new lesions first.
Pico lasers are also appropriate for type 3+.

Thanks for acknowledging the importance of acne scar treatments not being insured. I've dealt with cystic acne and scarring for years and only now after lengthy isotretinoin / laser / alternative treatments I am sort of where I want to be. Not to mention that my skin was broken, bleedy and itchy as hell for the majority of that time.
Glad you’re seeing results!

Thank you for the kind words, and wishing you the best on the rest of your treatment journey!
Hi Lorna, do you have any before and after pictures you are able to share? I am near-senior and considering it.
Adapalene/tretinoin
I love the little one liners in your videos that CRACK ME UP! I can tell you have a genuine heart that is sick of all the bullshit in the world yet compelled to make a difference. Subscribed.
Ahh thank you!
thank you sincerely for having the common decency of being transparent and honest, unironically really difficult to find nowadays
I went in for a consultation for my acne scars at this one place and the bundle price for 3 treatments for microneedling was $1400. I couldn't afford it, but the lady wanted to help me out so she gave me half off so now I've been going for over a year now and I am going to get my 5th microneedling treatment next month.
Did it help for acne scars?
I had my third eye open when I found out that there's not ONE cream that helps heal acne scars and had to accept reality of the situation. I don't have severe acne scars but it's there and very visible. I am curious though, can I buy the micro needle tool and use it myself? Are there even legitimate one's available in the market or are they all just scams?
Largely over the counter ones are not useful for acne scars. They’re legally not allowed to go deep enough and still be sold over the counter.
@@usamasyed Yep, makes sense. Thank you for the insight!
For resistant scars , subcision and nano fat transfer can be the last hope and micro needling as a follow up after every 3 months till next 2 years , use of retinol 2.5% serum at bed time may also help
Good options!

Thanks!
Can you please make a video about the medical aspect of dermatology and wards that dermatologists do and examples of medical management in dermatology
Will add it to my list!
I don‘t really get scars but dark marks/hyperpigmentation. Are these tips also helpful for that?
How come they don't heal on their own? Based on what you explained, I would imagine those poorly laid down collagen would get rotated through during cell turnover. Does it not? Or does the body keep laying new cells in the same old spots?
Good question! An answer would be much appreciated from the Dr. :)
Six sessions of micro needling helped me massively, it’s not gone completely but definitely a 60-70percent improvement
Micro needling or morpheus8?witch one is btr ?
7 sessions in a year for me. It is cost effective and helps to reduce the appearence of scarring but takes a looooooooot of time to show difference
Is 60 or 70 percentage improvement is permanent ?
Or it will return?

I have been facing acne for 2 years and now I’m really tired. I have got rid of them one time.It came again on my face and now I did all the things to get rid but all in vain (my health is not too good)

Guys I know you’re scared, I know accutane seems scary. It was the ONLY thing that helped me. And my liver enzymes were barely elevated.
From my experience with treating my acne scarring *laser was the biggest lie save your time and money
* Micro needling is a meh do it if you have social occasion or something it will give you an edema that will last for a week it’s may help the way you’re skin look for a short time
* never under any circumstances let any doctor convince you into Subssision doesn’t work risky and could stretch out your skin. * surgical Dermabrasion worked for me.
I took accutane back when I was 18 years old and my acne gone ,now I’m 30 years old and my acne came back 🥲do you have any suggestion that I can do that can help my skin to get better ?🤦🏻♂️
So much for "following the science" when you completely avoiding talking about any natural remedies as if they don't exist and if there is no science about them. Also, so much for saying you're not biased when everything you said was biased towards the medical industry.
Micro needling is the best treatment to scares and ance believe me
"not biologically" females also use spironolactone:) and "biologically females" who take testosterone should avoid spironolactone cause it doesn't make sense take them together:)
Eyo bro why don't have Instagram profile or just take pictures
Why :
it so depressing I have atrophic and on disability so out of reach for me
I had a subscion done a few years back on a deep scar
Even with the numbing afterwards felt kind of painful
But definitely stimulated the collagen inside
Thankfully my scar wasn’t that deep to receive fillers too
It’s perfect now the way it is from where it was
Could a phenol peeling also help get rid of acne scars? It's a bit extreme and controversial, but could it get rid of them permanently and would it be safe to try?

Informative video. Could you talk about how microneedling and some heat based treatments can potentially cause fat loss in the face. Ive been watching some other drs talk about this so it's concerning.
As a person with acne scars I can honestly say this shit got me depressed I can’t even look at myself anymore my big brother made comments on it and I know other people say shit behind my back about it I have told my parents about it and all they say is “it’s normal that this is supposed to happen” they don’t realize that my skin is permanently damaged I don’t blame them I blame myself. I realized that honey helps avoid it but sometimes it still comes out idk man I just feel ugly my confidence went super down and I can’t look at ppl in the eye anymore I honestly hate myself rn plus I developed tmj my face looks fucked but it is what it is I guess ill just keep moving forward
