Omg i'm crying rn i'm really new in the game and i always misdrop when the board gets really high and this just gave me hope to play more Tetris and learn to instinctually setup a T spin thank you
You should make a series were people can send you recordings of there games and you can pause them slow them down ect. And give tips on what they did wrong or could have done better
I find that when I start out playing I’m usually pretty laid back and chill and think a bit straighter and tend to make less misdrops but as I play and lose and get more frustrated I kind of change my mentality and just play, albeit angrily lol. But playing like that usually results in me making it into top ten most times
That's kinda what happens with me except anger issues cause me a lot of pain literally because once it gets too far I start beating myself up. Don't know why but I need to work on it because being always angry is yeah not good
This actually helped a ton, thank you! It’s amazing how you have such good/concentrated gameplay and can also be talking about it/other things at the same time.
Thanks for the advice! I was grinding some Jstris 40L Sprint, and I got my first sub 1 minute time at 57.5 seconds. :) It was like an epiphany when you said, "when you have a flat board you don't have to really think about where you put your pieces."
Some tips from my own experience as a Tetris player my whole life who gets my butt handed to me in online: 1. Turn off the music or lower the volume--it can add to the intensity and distract you 2. Focus on building fast but precise start out with repetition and as you get better you will learn more tricks 3. Drop fast when you need to drop fast but build high when you have time at the beginning 4. Even when its rising to the top doesn't mean the game is over, you can still hold on and recover 5. Sit up and focus on the game completely cutting out distractions aside maybe some light music (not the tetris music) 6. Have fun
Never do a PC, since incoming garbage isn't instant in Tetris 99. The garbage is too clean, which means good players will just send it right back at everybody else. You don't want to give better plays ammo to knock out weaker opponents; you want to loosely try to combine efforts to take down stronger players.
Thanks. Most videos that get recommended on UA-cam show peoples' best games and make it easy to believe there's some magic to clearing fast and avoiding mistakes. This helps level my expectations, and will greatly reduce the anguish I feel next time a piece locks where I didn't intend it to
Oh my god, you don't know how much this helped me. Seeing how you play helped me a ton with topping off players like, a lot! I realised that if I don't have at least a tetris I should save my line block, other than that, this video saved me!
A lot of these ideas are so simple but just not something a low level player like me has ever thought of. Thanks for doing these videos. It's a huge help to someone just trying to keep their head above water XD
MAN! got my nintendo switch 4 days ago and thanks to TAFO i got my first victory yesterday!! THANKS MANN this video is awesome, simple strategy and i managed to win, i was getting to the final 10 all the time and always lost at the end, so happy now! really good advice in this video
Line pieces are useful and simple for begginers dont get to advance stuff yet ._. Im still bad my highest place is only 2nd T^T but i make alot of cavities because most of the time i end up having to commit to something but its really bad when you cant combo it into another line
the way I deal with it is to clear singles or doubles when my pieces won't let me build cleanly - don't worry about always making tetrises. it's fine - it's not point based like classic tetris - doubles and single line combos do damage too. take for example the common situation where you have an L dependency on the left or right side. you can fit z pieces in there - you actually want to build on top of mistakes like that to better clear them. again, don't be afraid to go for non-tetris clears. survival is the most important thing
I've learned alot just by watching some of this. I'm not nearly as fast as you are but close to it. Making mistakes is what keeps me on edge. If I can just keep a calm mindset like you and keep it rolling, I'd be good. I normally play on PS5 the Tetris Effect. Some t spin techniques don't work like it does on the game you're on but that's ok.
My brother told me about tetrisfriends and I like going there but I'm not used to the controls. Mainly because I don't play it as much. But I have Tetris 99 which is the only game I actually play online on the Switch. I also bought Tetris Effect which I really enjoy playing
Thank you for your videos. I feel like I can actually get better now. Is there a specific mode to practice a 40 Line sprint on Tetris 99. If not, is there a specific app to download on my iPhone to practice? Thank you in advance.
Could you add links to recommended tetris apps in the description or a comment? Also, what would you say about EA's tetris app on android? It CAN automatically show the player placements but also has a less hand holdy (but still frustrating) mode where you can pull down, left, and right. If you have any exerience with it, would you recommend it to people trying to learn moves?
What is the game you mention at 3:07? I've tried looking for something to help me get quicker at building, but I only use something like a free classic tetris, so it's not really timed or anything
I can't imagine panicing and not building, when I panic I probably build too much. And yeah I haven't won a single match, but I can get to top 15 pretty consistently if try hard. Once the blocks start to fall at 100% I just can't keep up. But I just play for fun! This is the only competitive game I really don't get mad at, and it's the only battle royal game I like.
thank you so, so much. i've learned an insane amount from this, but Tetris Friends seems to have shut down. are there any other free recommendations you have for grinding these days?
The only problem is that on mobile apps, you can only rotate one direction, unless you turn on this weird mode that is really stupid because then you really can’t move very well
You can pay a one-time purchase for CPU 99 battles with varying difficulty and a marathon mode (150 lines with varying difficulties or 999 lines starting at level 1).
How does garbage work? Like the meter and lines of trash that get sent to me. And how does sending it back work? And what do badges have to do with it?
I have a bad habit that I can’t fix, I usually use only one button to rotate the piece so it would take long on some situations. Should I just practice thinking about using both or something
I'm the same and can't bring myself to change. I've done 48.14 for 40 lines and I can beat pretty much anyone but I know if I want to improve I have to learn to rotate both ways. My suggestion (though I haven't made myself do this yet!) is to play super slow on purpose and think about every movement/rotation to try and learn the single spin in one direction rather than triple spin the wrong way.
ok after becoming more experienced I've realized PCing would have ruined his Back to Back streak, also only would have sent a couple extra lines. Plus he's trying to prove a point with T-spinning
I have a problem, so I have two really bad habits one being I only use the clockwise rotation and I also tap the multiple times to move a piece instead of holding. Do know a way to fix both of these or at least some training type to fix it.
If you are still looking to fix the rotation thing you should play Big Bang in Puyo Puyo Tetris, practice using big bang does good with the two problems
It helps keep his options open on how to proceed and to keep clearing lines consistently. Or, if he wanted, run off a combo. This game also takes you being close to the top as "you're close to being KO'ed, here's everyone out to poach KOs." You get bonuses for having multiple people targeting you, which can set up for nasty counterattacks to kill the vultures or cut a different target's future short by sending them all that.

Any chance you could do a video on ways to be less dependent on line pieces? I feel that's one of the main problems us beginners have.
Build flat and don't be too afraid of creating a whole or 2 if it keeps your board clean
he is extremely dependent on line pieces so i dont think he should do one tbh
Line pieces are useful and simple for begginers dont get to advance stuff yet ._. Im still bad my highest place is only 2nd T^T but i make alot of cavities because most of the time i end up having to commit to something but its really bad when you cant combo it into another line

something so satisfying about watching that one lone line collapsing 5 rows 😌
Sorry but in tetris the max is 4 rows sos abou that

On the joycons it's much worse trust me
Silver Gaming I’d go to the joycons. idk if it’s just me, but I fat finger the insta drop button and on joycons it’s easier and faster

Joy Cons are miles better for tetris. Having dedicated directional buttons rather than just a simple d-pad makes miss dropping far less frequent.

why does he let it grow so tall before finishing it off with the long 4 block piece? does he get more points when the stack is higher?
It helps keep his options open on how to proceed and to keep clearing lines consistently. Or, if he wanted, run off a combo.
