    Thank you for this! I’m so honored. Eaden is a variant spelling of Eden and sometimes used as a name. I chose the variant to separate the perfume name from the biblical Eden. Plus, I thought the spelling variation looked prettier. 😅

    I wondered why I wore Parure so rarely when I bought it in the 80s, so I looked it out, and realised. It's strikingly sad! It has the deep melancholy of Apres l'Ondee, but with added noisy sobbing. After an hour, my spirits are on the floor. I'm astonished by how scents used to be brave enough to make you feel complex emotions, and also to not assume you just wanted to get laid. So many modern scents seem to imagine that all you want is to wander round in your underwear with a permanent vacant smile. I may not wear Parure, but I'm glad it was made. That's doubtless why it's not in existence any more!

      This is a very, very good point. -- the styles were much more about emotion rather than attention-seeking. Thanks for writing.

      😂 I like my fragrance to evoke an emotion or suit a particular mood, season, event or location. The number of adverts that seem to be, “spritz this and you’ll attract someone hot” drive me up the wall. 😟

    • @greymomma
      @greymomma 6 місяців тому +1

      Agree. I put fragrance on based on the mood I’m in or the mood that fragrance can bring me to. Quality scents can envelop you in a warm blanket or lift your spirits. Today it does seem to be focused on, this can get you in bed.

    Thanks for the video and in particular for the last bit about Parure. Never smelled it, I hope I can one day.
    In one of his poems, Baudelaire refers to his mistress's hair as her "parure", meaning she has very beautiful hair, like jewels. It's a lovely word and idea.
    Mr P, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I discovered your channel some time ago, and you truly make my life much brighter. I am so glad whenever you publish a video! Listening to you and your subscribers talk about perfume makes my day every time. I now realise the channel and your work have become part of my top pleasures in life! Thank you ever so much for sharing all this joy with love and earnestness!

    I was gifted Parure Extrait in 1980 in the Rosebud crystal bottle, it was really gorgeous. I was into Nahema, Aliage (Lauder) Shalimar, L'heure Bleue and Chamade, Mitsouko and when smelling Parure it felt like being in a sephia coloured photo, as if Marie Antoinette would appear in it. On me Parure took a strange twist by hitting hard with patchouli and amber, which ingredients don't blend well with my skin. None of my Guerlainophile friends could find themselves in it either. I wish so much I could smell it now, since the skin changes over time and it might have felt different today. You are indeed fortunate to have your fine bottle! I remember we waited in excitement when it was rumoured or announced that Guerlain would launch a new perfume.
    A marvelous thing back then was that every perfume was launched with its own exclusives, like bodylotion, deodorant, body talc, bath oil and body oil. It was absolutely wonderful and I loved using the additional products. You could wrap yourself in the most beautiful layers of perfume, which created an unbelievable silliage. It was like a silk veil of lovely smelling perfume caressing the senses, absolutely lovely. I miss those days. So much of the "feel" and luxurious wellbeing of the scents seem to be lost now.

      I couldn’t agree more. The excitement of those days is rare now.

    Great video. Listening to it/them through my otherwise boring shift.
    I especially liked and agreed to your parting message, it’s important to not save something for a special occasion, instead wear/use it and make the occasion special!
    Greetings from a Hungarian subscriber from Florida!

    Enjoyed watching this morning Mr. P.! Even if I didn't normally get up at 5:30AM I still would've just to watch! :) I found when I tried the Gucci for women it was if they were going for an 80's fragrance but it lacked the quality of the vintages. It's a shame, because I think if we had the quality of the 70's/80's more of the younger 'sweet and floral' lovers might find they enjoy the 'naughty' and darker fragrances as well.

    I've been browsing perfume message boards today and I've stumbled upon someone who's selling, among many other things, decants of Parure. A Guerlain I never heard of, I thought and now I'm watching this video, what a coincidence! Or was it fate? I think I have no other choice but to get the decant now 😄

    “I’ve reviewed it. It’s terrible” 😂😂
    On the other note - Great point. Stereotyping a region or gender with a scent profile, is a trend I hope the industry gets over in 2024.
    Also, I managed to catch half of it live. Mainly because I noticed the live notification later. But it was such a joy. Thanks for the new time. :)

    It is fascinating to observe perfume fashions as statements on gender norms. I've had the privilege of smelling reconstructions of early fougeres and there is a happiness, ease, and beauty that couldn't hold a starker contrast to the ambroxan sledgehammers popular today.
    I am not a fan of IFRA by any means, but it cannot be solely blamed for the current state of mainstream perfumery. The masses prefer these uncomplicated caricatures.

    6:15 Oh wow, you really came in swinging 😂😂😂
    I love the original Gucci Guilty fragrances (both genders), as well as the Absolutes (again, both genders), and the Parfum Pour Femme. My favourites absolutely have to be the 2010 Pour Femme and Absolute Pour Homme, which are miles away from each other in terms of their scent.
    I’ve tried Elixir PF and didn’t think the scent or the price warranted a purchase, it was unimaginative to say the least.

    A perfume friend just gifted me a mini of Parure and in trying to get cap off I spilled a good amount on my hands. The upside was I got a real full experience of the perfume since I tend to be an undersprayer.

    Poor Jo Malone 😂 Haven’t tried any ‘Jo Loves’. Mainly cos the only 2 Jo Malone I liked were Blackberry & Bay and Wood Sage & Sea Salt but I wouldn’t pay that price for 4-5 hours longevity. Golden Vanilla & Vetiver was a maybe.
    Gucci at least sounds interesting

    I took my 12 year old nephew on a scent safari. He smelled quite a few Jo Malone fragrances (much harder to find Jo Loves here) and wrinkled his nose in disgust at every one. I took him to smell Chanel and as soon as he tried No 5, my nephew exclaimed it was the best perfume he had ever smelled. There will be a bottle under the tree for him this year ♥️

    I’ve been meaning to ask you and keep forgetting: Have you smelled Guilded by Bougie Boujees and also Vanilla Edesia by Electimuss London? Suzy and Nicola have been raving about them on their podcast. I seem to be hypernosmic to some synthetics which can be very jarring for me and am always very careful with blind buys even with samples. I was very curious about your thoughts though.

    Big fan of the channel, but I found the reviews of Creed and Jo Love a bit out of character and harsh. There are one thousand and one ways to disapprove of something without being disrespectful. (I don't own any product of the aforementioned brands)

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks very much for writing. My personal stance is that I allow myself to say whatever is necessary about the actual pieces of work in question, but I draw the line about making comments about the *people* who have created them. The Creed and the Jo Loves elicited a strong response from me, but by no means the strongest negative response a scent has ever elicited.
      That said, I appreciate your feedback and the fact that you took the time to write.
