Happy New Year!!! Who is your favorite cross gen evolution?
Wyrdeer
@@zachpro5475unfortunately gamefreak. Made its stat distribution crappy
Happy new year!
My answer is (and always will be) : Froslass. The Ice/Ghost typing is so unique and the design is really REALLY good.
Roserade
Farigiraf was a huge evolution up for VGC. Trick room setter that blocks priority. Made it to the world championship finals in its first year.
Went from being a mascot at a defunct Toys R Us to a worlds runner up.
Griafgriaf Faririg are mixad then swapped
Archaludon impressed me tbh. Like, I never imagined, that they will seriously give an evolution to a mon with a BST of 535.
Having Archaludon means, that mons of the same BST range, like Lapras could also get an evo.
Lapras doesn’t need an evolution though
@@exposed975 neither does Duraludon, but here we are
(For reference sake, last i remember, archaludon has a BST of 600)
I hope they give Duraludon a pre evolution so it's a traditional Pseudo legend.
@@exposed975 It honestly kind of does. It hasn’t been very good for a while, except for when its gmax form was legal, but thats because Resonance was dumb.
Primeape's evolution in Annihilape was one of the coolest surprises we got to in SV. It's design is awesome, its move Rage Fist is so broken and fun to play with and just overall a much welcomed upgrade for the Mankey line. Also find it cool how its Evo was sorta teased with one of Primeape's SM Pokedex Entries
Hearing a poison type being referred to as having a good offensive type is surreal. But yeah poison fighting is only resisted by poison and ghost, and hits a lot of types for super effective including fairy or steel types. Usually I think of poison as a defensive type.
Sneasler is basically an acid trip to anyone used to RBY lol
@@Rarest26 i can imagine. The meta threats it deals with didn't exist. It's 4x weak to psychic which was the meta defining type. Fighting was absolute trash for moves back then and poison wasn't much better. No access to abilities, held items, or dark moves for coverage. Sneasler straight up wouldn't have worked in gen 1.
@blakdeth it's always fun to look at pokemon that WOULDN'T work before physical special split as well case in point Darmanitan (both versions) considering fire and ice were once exclusively special
@@LegendaryCaptain Imagine Garm in NU or something prior to the split lmao
Sinnoh was truly a blessing for cross gen evos
Another reason why Gen 4 is the best.
Another reason why thebgen 4 remakes are so unforgivable @@FTChomp9980
Evolutions are overrated
HUGE fan of Scizor. Scyther was cool, Scizor is cooler. Don't care how good it is in a battle.
Scizor is like my second fav pokemon.
Scizor is VERY good in competitive. Mainly Singles, but has some utility in Doubles.
Amazing typing (Bug-Steel has only one weakness and a lot of resistances) and great stats (huge Attack, good bulk) and, of course, combo of Swords Dance, Bullet Punch and Technician.
Anyone remember the anime episode where there was a cloaked scizor that was wrecking shop with hyper beam??
@@Hip-Gnosis1134 "Curbing the Crimson Tide"
Scyther and its evolutions are very interesting. With all three having the same BST with different distribution, same base type but different secondary, and Kleavor in particular having two viable abilities that aren’t named Technician, you basically have three different flavors of the same Pokémon and can freely use them on the same team with no restrictions like you’d normally have with regional variants.
I never got into competitive, but when GS first came out, seeing so many evolutions for the first gen pokemon blew my 10 year old mind
Armor Tail Farigraf has been seeing a ton of use during Scarlet and Viilet, probably more then it's line has seen for years. Bisharp was only ever praised for it's unique typing back in the day, and not much else, but it's evolution it's Kingambit has shot it up the ranks into top 3, that's incredible in my eyes
More than that! Unique typing+ that typing being actually MORE useful because of fairy introduction; defiant being great at punishing intimidate and defog; AND pursuit trapping the latis, ghosts, and other neutrally hit targets
Thumbnail game continues to be on point🫡
My theory for sneasler going extinct is that it was hunted by hisuian braviary and over time to survive it gained a type perfect to fight braviary off
On that subject it's still kinda wild to me that they didn't add ways of getting ALL the Hisuian forms within the Indigo disk.
Like they're ALL in the game and if you transfer them over then you're all good but like it reallllly wouldn't have been difficult to put them all in natively.
Like Stantler would just evolve the same way Quillfish does,
Lilligant, Avalugg and Braviary would just require being evolved in a specific area. Maybe do that for the starters too.
Growlith and Sneasel could have just been put in the wild.
The items for Klevor and Ursaluna too since you still can't evolve into either natively and Klevor can only be caught already evolved from that static spawn.
Like I get that they want people to go play legends but they already have Enamorous for that when people wanna complete their dex
Cool theory, but unfortunately it’s canon that normal Sneasel lived in the same habitat as Hisuian Sneasel, and simply outcompeted them
@@Gloomdrakenormal sneasel didn't exist in hisui except via space time distortion
@@BhargavN10 this is incorrect
I remember playing firered a long time ago with primeape as my mvp. It was adamant nature, was extrememly fast and hit crazy hard (cross chop went crazy). When I found out that primeape got a new evolution and became a GHOST FIGHTING TYPE (a type we only saw with marshadow), I was ecstatic!
Annihilape is and will probably for a long time stay as my favorite cross gen evolution of all time
I liked the video, but if you’re going to talk about stats as often as you do, it would be helpful to show the before and after like you did with Dusclops/Dusknoir at the end.
Kingdra is an over the top improvement to Seadra, in stats and ability. I'm sure that people would have noticed it much more if it wouldn't have happened in such an early generation. Just imagine if Kingdra had been added in Gen 4 of 5: an untiered Pokémon suddenly gets +100 base stats, dragon type and Swift Swim and becomes a top rain abuser
Imagine Shuckle getting an evolution. Being able to use eviolite would be hilarious and infuriating, if not just down right broken
Porygon has cool cross-gen evolutions.
Sneasel, Eevee, Scyther, Ursaring & Applin were also lucky enough to get 2 cross gen evolutions, or in Eevee's case 5 evos.
counter point in favor of dusknoir it gets character development in mystery dungeon explores of sky
Murkrow wasn't that bulky with eviolite. In fact it was two shot by almost any relevant move anyway so it ran focus sash just as consistently.
Im still sure that the reason onix has that terrible of an attack stat is so the first gym would make you feel cooler. If it was just a geodude or a graveler then sure. But a giant rock snake that you havent seen at that point before? That makes anyone feel like they have the weaker team. So overcoming it somehow would feel great right? And if thats the case, it worked on me at least.
What about a computer duck that got 2 meta relevant cross generation evolutions
Dusknoir was only created because, let's be honest, imagine Dusclops as the leader of one of the antagonistic teams that tried to stop the protags from changing history in the Mystery Dungeons games. It would be a lot more silly if it was Dusclops than the intimidating Dusknoir XD
Dusknoir: Switch it to any attack (It's super bulky) Click poltergeist or will o wisp). Heal with pain split. Repeat
8:57 Playing Breath of the Wild while listening to this, had the Blood Moon hit on there when I got to this part of the video. Love it when things like that happen
Why do you pronounce Togetic differently from Togepi and Togekiss? They're all supposed to sound the same.
Yeah, that threw me off too.
At least it's not as bad as "Tojepi". Ugh.
@@robertlupa8273 How about "Toje-Pie"
@@colbauer1426 Toje-π
A really good video! a strong start to the new year and new upload schedule!
But I do have to say some of the sound effects seem a tad too loud they can overpower your voice at times, however I also gotta give props for them not being too obnoxious and constant, they're not being used every 3 seconds they're used when needed and that's good.
Dusknoir and steelix
Thanks for the videos man I love your work
Thanks for watching!
I actually despise the eviolite item. As someone who loves Dusknoir, I hate that its second evolution has been overshadowed by eviolite Duskclops.
Scizor and Steelix my beloveds 🔥
The way he said togetic, I know people can pronounce things different but that caught me off guard
Scyther is another Pokemon that is arguably more useful with the use of eviolite. His speed is high enough that it can out-speed a lot of other Pokemon, meaning if you get a Sword Dance off, combined with its Technician ability, moves like Bug Bite or Aerial Ace can do a ton of damage. It can also learn Trailblaze to counter ground and rock types, while also boosting its speed. Going the other way, Scizor was a great evolution that offers a ton of resistances and good coverage overall. Much like Scyther, get a Sword Dance off and it becomes a serious threat.
Scisor, Kingambit, Crobat, and Gliscor are some of my absolute favorites. They really did good with these
Why are the sound effects louder than your actual voiceover in recent videos? It’s very jarring
All feedback is appreciated, I'll share with the editor
JPR is looking great! Lovely to see you back on UA-cam and can't wait to see your videos for 2024. As for my fav cross gen evolutions I would say Espeon, Togekiss and Gallade.
i’m with you on those choices!
The giraffe was an insane evolution a pokemon that can stop priority and set up trick room is insane especially to a mon that didn't see much use
Dunsparce with the eviolite becomes viable
With bloodmoon they said how about we create an ursaluna which is special
And annihilape has a very good type
"Gen 2 matches last longer than The Lord of the Rings: Directors Cut"
Yeah, 15 years ago.
Kingambit, Annihlape, Sneasler, Ursaluna, Scizor and Crobat are probably my favorites. Crobat is probably the coolest since all those other mons evolve from well liked mons whereas everyone kinda hated Golbat.
Also love that eviolite Dusclops is a thing because when I was playing gen 3 as a kid it was one of my favorites. Dusknoir is kinda dumb but im glad it exists just so Dusclops has a niche.
Dudunsparce was a missed opportunity tho. Coulda been a dope normal/dragon serpent thing and stayed kinda goofy looking too. Instead they just made it goofy looking and kept it virtually unchanged.
Happy New Year! First time I was here 8 minutes into the release of the video!
That snorlax jumpscare floored me 😭
Numel: man! I love the ability simple!
*Camerupt stares with a burning jealousy across the room*
I love your videos bro! Very high quality!
me too.
Togepi and its line are my favourite Pokemon. I had almost a dozen Togekiss in my Heartgold game and each had a different moves it. It was just too cool. Gallade has to be my second favourite crozz-gen evolution. It also has an amazing move pool and the design is just so clean.
Hydrapple quickly became very awesome.
Great video. Aside I hear that Gormott theme from Torna in the background
I think it's implied that the blood moon Ursaluna that you find in the dlc is the same Ursaluna that Calaba used to have and that the player uses as an item finder/ride pokemon in legends arceus.
Blood moon is so awesome.
Just noticed the Gordon sheets, the Larson shirt, and the Chase quarter panel against the wall. Hendrick Motorsports fan?? Let’s GO!
justice for dudunsparce!
Would love a part 2 of this!!!
My favorite Cross Generation Evolution is a tie between Farigiraf, Annihilape, and kingambit
To-GET-ic is a Wolfey-tier mispronunciation.
I don't play competitive pokemon at all, but I find these videos great entertainment and quite educational too. Thing is I'd be so sad to have to use dusclops over Dusknoir simply since I love Dusknoir's design and it does just fine for story and pve in general. So even if I learn that well Dusknoir kinda sucks, I don't need to be sad that I can't use it since it's pvp not pve. Fun video, keep up the great work!
Sneasler went extinct because they're loners. Weavile, using its solid teamwork, managed to hunt all the prey, which meant Sneasler died from starvation.
Might want to speak a bit slower so you can fix mistakes like the oddish part, aside from that loved the video, incredibly informative.
Merry new year
I believe Sneasler went extinct for the same reason Tigers are currently endangered. They were a solitary species. They most likely couldn't outcompete the more social Weavile when it comes to hunting. Pack hunting is very efficient compared to other hunting methods in the past after all.
Anyone else utterly detest the existence of the eviolite? Makes me wish that Dusknoir was better statistically because between it & Dusclops I've always like Dusknoir's design more.
Hey JPR, are you going to Charlotte regional again this year 👀
I need an offensive version of eviolite
I wonder how many times Lopunny triggered puberty ☠️
Magneton with eviolite is quite good.
There's a few examples of pokemon being better unevolved. Porygon2 and Chansey obviously function because of eviolite. And Sneasel has a niche over Weavile since it's immune to fake out and intimidate, so it has it's niche as well, especially with icy wind, fake out and knock off.
You stopped the whole video for that? @7:33 😂 I been subscribed to this channel since the 2010’s lol imagine how we feel hearing you asking ppl to sub
Cool seeing moxie boosted here!
The way he said togetic hurt me
You want me to pick just one .. i don't even dislike that Bruxish ... But Steel type is my overall favorite type so i guess all those are probably my "favorite"
Happy year old who is your favorite POG pika poo poo
That thumbnail is amazing.
Thanks
(12:30) Don't forget to apologize to the B-Button League!
Electiver and magmortore crying
"By cross-generation evolution-"
Just say Legacy Evolution, we'll know what you mean
The Virgin Ursaluna vs The Chad Eviolite Ursaring
Can't get enough of Annihilape. Super Saiyan dead Primeape is an absolute raid slayer. Who needs super effective damage when you're hitting for hundreds of damage each attack?
favorite cross gen evolution is mamoswine (probably a very generic pic but it works)
Hi John happy new year 👋
happy new year to you as well!
This video is starting to make me think that JPR thinks the only reason a pokemon is created is specifically for competitive uses.
Weavile is definitely the best cross gen evolution to me.
first person who looks as good as their voice sounds
8:41
AKA they turned it into Freddy Fazbear.
Still wanna see a Shuckle evolution someday
Hell no, Shuckle should never be able to use Eviolite.
@@rjd-kh8et That's EXACTLY why I wanna see it
@@rjd-kh8etone sentence horror story
pretty sure all evolutions changed the game
eviolite should be nerfed. should only work on pokemon that can evolve and dont have any base stat above 100
I’d rather evolve Pokemon rather than using eviolite. I don’t play against real people though so it doesn’t really matter.
What pokemon is so hard to deal that you want eviolite nerfed??
I’m sorry, I’m a day late.
Mag and elec
Still waiting on a skarmory evolution imagine Steel/Fairy
No, keep it steel flying
Why does ONIX not have Intimidate?
Politoed. Shaped all of Gen 5
Wow dude, has anyone ever told ou that you'd look just like Jason Statham if you shaved your head!?
PorygonZ is the goat fr
poison fighting isnt a great offense typing
Wow, I got here fast. Uh, yeah.
If we want to say the most buff mon over time, pikablue was TERRIBLE In gen 2
so thats why ash never evolved 95% of his mons, they had eviolites?
The way you said togetic is offensive
I think you might be looking at things from the wrong perspective woth gen 2 Most of gen 2's pokemon weren't necessarily made with Viability in mind.
They meant those games to be the end of the series and just wanted some new cool ideas for pokemon.
They were more meant for world building and to just be some neat ideas they wanted to put out rather than have anything be super competitively viable.
Pretty aure that's also why the level scaling in the base game is kinda low. It was meant to be a fairly chill experience just seeing the other side of the world at the time
So I have a theory pertaining to why Sneasler went extinct and why we instead have Weavile instead. It all has to do with typing, natural predators, and its behaviour. Sneasler is known to be a solitary pokemon, who prefers to live alone. While dangerous with its Fighting/Poison typing it leaves itself vulnerable to a major predator, Hisuian Braviary. As a Psychic/Flying type, H-Braviary could hard counter Sneaslers typing and with its ability to use its psychic abilities to immobilize their opponents Sneasler has literally no chance against it.
When the black hole that dumped the player character in the Hisui region, we also know that J-Sneasel and Weavile also came to be. Weavile, being a Dark/Ice type, can provide resistance to H-Braviary's tactics and with their behaviour known to work together in packs it can have an easier time taking down H-Braviary. Sneasler would likely learn from their future counterparts and start adapting themselves in the same way, slowly changing their types and tactics to reflect their future selves, even recognizing to use their razor claw to evolve in the night as opposed to during the day. While Sneasler has a better typing in comparison to Weavile, Weavile's typing and behaviour makes it more suitable to resist their predators and thrive which is why we see Weavile in the current age of Pokemon instead.
Dudunsparce is one of the most disappointing cross gen evolution luckily he can still get a second cross gen evolution hope that game freak does something unique with it maybe just like Archaludon give it pseudo legendary stast
