Red, Steven, and Cynthia are the best superbosses in my opinion, Red for different reasons than Steven and Cynthia. For those two, you more or less have to go out of your way to find them, and it is amazing when you're rewarded that way. In Red's case, it is the culmination of Gens I-II (and in Gen IV, I-IV, as Gen V takes place so far away that Red is an obvious farewell to the first four regions), and the game is steadily leading you towards him the whole way. I love it
The funny thing about Barry is that even after entering the hall of fame 20 times his pokemon STILL don't have items , like they're just heigher leveled and that's it , he's not even a good superboss
You forgot about honey in the isle of armor 1. You have to get Max rank of the watt packages she asks you to pay 2. If im not mistaken she like around the high mid 80’s level wise 3. Shes actually pretty intimidating when she opens up her battle
Honey was a joke because of her being a DLC boss, so most people playing it already had a number of max level pokemon by then, making it a complete stomp
I really enjoyed this video! I don’t feel like Serena obtaining Mega Evolution undercuts Lysandre, because Serena chose not to be greedy and take what she though she deserved but worked hard to earn and master mega evolution.
In my opinion, Cynthia’s second rematch in BDSP should count. You have to do so much to even get there in the first place. And the team is incredible, if you’re not using legendaries or perfect Pokémon.
I remember walking into Cynthia’s house not knowing she was going to be there, or in the game at all. I already knew I was in trouble the moment her music started playing because of Platinum flashbacks 😂
The Level 100 Giratina...as a GOOD superboss? I can't agree, at all. It's one Pokemon, it lacks stat boosts a la Gen VII, it's an anticlimax that you CAN'T catch after you spend so much time with Legendaries that you can...that's hardly a superboss at all, it's just...a completion bonus. At best.
I feel like you should've included Honey from Isle Of Armor, you really need to go out of your way to donate watts for her. She's definately not the strongest boss battle of all but just the fact that she yeets the dynamax ball is already worth her spot
I remember accidentally stumbling into Cynthia's cabin while exploring,I thought i could take her on but hadn't done any real grinding after beating the league for the first time. Then i saw her level 75 Spiritomb and proceeded to crap my pants. She sweeped my entire team and sent me back a good hour of exploring back,We never forget the first time we got demolished by Cynthia...

Considering how rampant cynicism and toxicity is in discussion of games on the internet these days, it makes you and your channel a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to the content to come.
Machamp and Arcanine were some of Blue's Pokemon, so those got swapped over to Red since Blue and Green had their respective starters in LGPE. That's the reasoning for Red having those. I will admit I'd have liked to see him have both a partner Pikachu (the buffed stats version) as well as a partner Eevee, since he does canonically use both a Pikachu and an Espeon, so referencing that fact by giving him both of LGPE's starter Pokemon would've been a nice touch. In the theme of gift Pokemon, I wouldn't have minded him using something like a Gyarados, a reference to the Magikarp salesman.
Honestly i do like barry as a super boss He's been training his team to beat his dad and to be the strongest trainer. He is no Steven or Red but he proves himself to be a worthy rival of the sinnoh champ (you)
I know Pokémon would likely never do this but I personally think it would be cool if they made a side character in a future game into a secret final boss for anyone who does a Nuzlocke of the game. Kind of like Sans in Undertale except for Pokémon Nuzlockes.
Maybe next time you could do a video of how to improve all super bosses that are bad or making your own super boss to improve on the games? Great video
And now with BD/SP, we technically can probably count Cynthia again for a super boss, having a team that ties with Red in terms of levels in the 2nd rematch round, as well as having competitive stat spreads across each party member more or less debatably cementing her as possibly the defacto strongest trainer in the mainline series.
Bruh how do you talk about superbosses and not talk about Wally's god tier final battle in ORAS. Seeing him end up with a Garchomp and Gen 6 Gale Wings Talonflame was so cool.
when i was a kid i never played DPPt, and so the first game i ever beat was Pokemon Black. Imagine kid me’s surprise when not only did some random lady in Undella Town want to battle me, but she was also the hardest Pokemon fight i had seen until that point. To this day that is probably the one fight in Pokemon ive struggled with the most, hell i never even beat her. The only fight that i struggled nearly as much on was Volo, who i may have struggled more on tbh, but i also intentionally made Volo harder for myself to relive the thrill of trying to beat Cynthia way back then. Maybe one day i’ll go back to Black/White and finally beat Cynthia.
How about the level 100 dynamaxed Regigas in the crown tundra. You need all five regis and find a certain raid den that will only activate if all five regis are in your party?
Ah yes mt silver “the hardest dungeon in the game.” Red is incontestably the hardest fight in GSC but Mt Silver has literally nothing in it. If you have repels you just walk through lol. The rocket hideout is objectively harder since there’s actually required fights in it. This isn’t a serious jab at the video but it’s just something I found particularly funny when I heard it.
Barry was a good superboss because he was the best rival in several generations and at the time had the highest lvl pokemon of any trainer. It was nice to see a rival try to keep up, whereas silver stopped growing at the elite 4, and may/brendan didn't even go past 40.
Honey is a decent boss too x3 if nothing else to watch her warp space when she throws her Ball out of her hand and chuck a Dynamax Ball with just a flick of her wrist
@@TipOfTheSauce nothing, there’s just debate about whether Final Marcus counts as a superboss or not. While the party can’t get to level 100 like marcus is, you can get to 99, meaning Marcus will be a gray enemy at max level, while the other 4 superbosses will always be red enemies. You can also daze Final Marcus, and you cant daze the other superbosses Personally I think he counts as a superboss but since hes so much weaker and so different from the others, some dont consider him to be one
The final fight isn’t really that difficult if you bring cresselia though. It’s a tank of a Pokémon that can easily take multiple hits and self heal. I beat it first try with no issues
Actually, if you’ve noticed Blue’s team in further games (like B2W2, SM and USUM) he has an Arcanine and a Machamp, so it’d make sense for Red to have them as he may have traded them to him in exchange for Charizard and Aerodactyl.
The ability to defend your title in Gen 7 felt like something a long time coming, and is my second favorite "superboss" in the franchise's history behind Red obviously.
I TOTALLY agree with you on that Red one. I feel like he's in the game because it's sort of an unwritten rule that he's in every game that Blue's in (except in FRLG if you pick Leaf, of course). I feel like the game developers could have made Red the one to battle you after Mewtwo and give you the mega stones for it, but they decided to put Green into the game for... can I even call it fanservice if few people know her? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Green, but since Let's Go is targeted mostly for new audience, Green has no relevance to them, and even to veteran players, she doesn't give as much of an emotional impact like Red does. Green just gets a bigger role (which I'm thankful for, but also confused at) and Red gets pushed back to be the most irrelevant out of the three. The atmosphere in which we find him is very underwhelming, too. In the Johto games, he's on the summit of an isolated mountain that you need to get *sixteen badges* to enter and his theme is a rendition of the Champion theme. In Let's Go he just has the normal trainer battle theme and he's standing on the side of the road to the Pokemon League like a hooker.
It was nice to see Green, but the only reason I can think of as to why it's her instead of Red is they didn't want him to walk up to you, hand you the mega stones and then leave without saying a word.
For some reason, watching this reminded me of Bakugans free play mode, where you could actually play as all the opponent characters, with their various Bakugan and cards. Imagine if for a Pokémon post game, or side mode, you could have the exact same free play mode, set against whoever, wherever, and whenever. It would provide no real advantage, I just reckon it would be cool
Guess this is more like a secret boss but in ORAS you can find Wally in the battle chatelaine and once you beat him he will show up in the lobby with a full team of 6, Pokémon with hidden abilities and a level 81 mega Gallade which is stronger than steven’s mega metagross during the rematch. Also when you win you have a 1% chance of getting a ability capsule and he shows up once per day
If you're confused why Red had Machamp and Arcanine in let's go, it's pretty simple. They're on his team as options for what he traded to Blue for his Charizard. Arcanine is the alternate Fire type that Blue doesn't have if Charmander is his starter and Machamp is on his Team starting HGSS onward, but we don't known when he got it since he doesn't have one in any of the Kanto games. So they're there to imply that Red traded on or the other for Charizard to set up his and Blue's future teams.
My first game was White 1 and when I first stumbled upon Cynthia, my first thought was "Oh my god, why are you so strong?!" and had a new goal to beat in my favorite game at the time. Honestly, I'd replay it if it didn't mean I'd have to get rid of my original Samurott.
for Barry....I completly forgot he's a super boss. like i know my main platinum save has level 100s in my main team an di haven't beat the E4 that often (not that I can't lol), but Barry has literally always been a part of that save's money grinding routines because god it's underwhelming

Kinda surprised you didn't mention alder's kid in unova at all, fairly confident he counts as a super boss but i cant remember how to trigger him. also found this channel over a year ago and only today realised I wasn't subscribed
He's on the top floor of Black Tower/White Treehollow.
Yeah Benga? Definitely is the superboss for bw2. 3 lv 80s, and one being a latias/latios. Was a very cool fight.
@@cowbellringer2204 Plus he gives you a shiny Dragon-type depending on your version.
The only reason why I clicked on this video was to see Benga and he didn't mention him?
Heck, Alder himself is sort of a superboss in BW since you only get to battle him after the story is over.
Thank you JPR. I actually found your channel this year and enjoyed it so much that I had to go back and watch all of your older vids. I am looking forward to all your content in 2022, Happy New Years everyone!
Thank you for watching!
"Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon don't even give you their unique battle themes"
Yeah. Neither do Sun and Moon, it only ever plays in the Battle Tree.
Little did he know the best super boss in the series would come out just a month later
An extra Cynthia and Giratina at the same time. That one was rough but god I haven't gotten my ass handed to me like that in a Pokemon game in years.
You forgot about honey in the isle of armor
1. You have to get Max rank of the watt packages she asks you to pay
2. If im not mistaken she like around the high mid 80’s level wise
3. Shes actually pretty intimidating when she opens up her battle
and Ultra Necrozma
But no SwSh battle is hard though?
Honey was a joke because of her being a DLC boss, so most people playing it already had a number of max level pokemon by then, making it a complete stomp
Walking into a nice vacation home and hearing that Sinnoh piano just straight up puts the fear of God in you
I really enjoyed this video! I don’t feel like Serena obtaining Mega Evolution undercuts Lysandre, because Serena chose not to be greedy and take what she though she deserved but worked hard to earn and master mega evolution.
One thing people forget about Cynthia is that you can just say no to her. You don’t have to fight her she gives you the option.
That's the thing, some of us are way too confident on our teams beforehand, so we just say yes
Wait. WHAT????
Yeah but that doesn’t allow people to make unfunny memes about how she traps you in an unwinnable battle
And now we have the absolute hardest super boss without a figured of a doubt with volo
I think Giovanni from rainbow rocket in the ultra games could be a super boss as I believe he’s the last trainer you fight in that side quest
In my opinion, Cynthia’s second rematch in BDSP should count. You have to do so much to even get there in the first place. And the team is incredible, if you’re not using legendaries or perfect Pokémon.
Theres a second fight???
@@armoredanteater609there's a third.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Dojo Matron Honey fight.
You really have to go out of your way to unlock the fight and she's got a strong team.
Running into Cynthia unexpectedly in Undella had me shaking in my boots as a kid. She destroyed me!
I remember walking into Cynthia’s house not knowing she was going to be there, or in the game at all. I already knew I was in trouble the moment her music started playing because of Platinum flashbacks 😂
Veteran Shaun is a total unit. I was so happy to see him mentioned, even if he doesn't qualify
7:02 Morimoto's team is literally the "early game generic ass begginer trainer Gen 5 starter pack"
Congrats on the great year for the channel man, well deserved. You get into a lot of interesting topics and facets of these games that I don’t see others doing, and you bring a ton of positivity to these discussions as well; even when you critique, you’re usually playfully roasting rather than being cynical or toxic. Considering how rampant cynicism and toxicity is in discussion of games on the internet these days, it makes you and your channel a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to the content to come.
You said my thoughts exactly! Just found this channel today and it’s a huge breath of fresh air with great topics and script!
You left out Dawn/Lucas in bdsp and Honey in the isle of armour.
I wouldn't say that the Snorlax in the Red battle was a gift Pokemon, as you had to actually battle and catch it.
Still, it's in limited supply.
Honestly i do like barry as a super boss
He's been training his team to beat his dad and to be the strongest trainer.
He is no Steven or Red but he proves himself to be a worthy rival of the sinnoh champ (you)
The Cynthia superboss fight is still the scariest thing GF has ever done
VOLA entered the chat
I know Pokémon would likely never do this but I personally think it would be cool if they made a side character in a future game into a secret final boss for anyone who does a Nuzlocke of the game. Kind of like Sans in Undertale except for Pokémon Nuzlockes.
Ready to follow you through 2022 dude. Love your content as much as ever and hope this next year really pays back your hard work.
Maybe next time you could do a video of how to improve all super bosses that are bad or making your own super boss to improve on the games? Great video
I feel like the title of Best Pokémon Superboss has now been taken by Pokémon Wielder Volo.
7:12 the fear in my young teen heart when I stepped into that house will forever live with me
The Steven battle will forever be my favorite battle. Emerald still my favorite pokemon game in general lol
I think that Leon on the battle tower is pretty challenging. Honey was also a really cool secret boss fight.
He really wasn't I one shotted charizard with a fisheous rend
@@KhaiNguyen-ru7lk thank you mr. fish
Volo with 8 pokemon: *Are you sure about that?*
Bruh how do you talk about superbosses and not talk about Wally's god tier final battle in ORAS. Seeing him end up with a Garchomp and Gen 6 Gale Wings Talonflame was so cool.
Ehh, probably because its a rival fight before postgame yeah?
@@armoredanteater609 No, you battle him in the post-game with a team that would sweep this entire videos roster.
Thanks for all the great videos this year made me love the Pokémon games new and old even more hope you do well and have a great new year
when i was a kid i never played DPPt, and so the first game i ever beat was Pokemon Black.
Gen 2 is my favorite, Red is a great fight but the cave is kind of baby 😂. Red is manageable too, the only slugfest is going against Snorelax.
...!
Have you seen battle tower leon, his iq is over 9000 and proceeds to thrash any casual pokemon consumer
Cant wait for 2022. Really find ur videos interesting to watch, hope u continue to make great videos and gain more Subs! Really underated yter imo
Barry was a good superboss because he was the best rival in several generations and at the time had the highest lvl pokemon of any trainer. It was nice to see a rival try to keep up, whereas silver stopped growing at the elite 4, and may/brendan didn't even go past 40.
Cynthia:I'm the scariest thing to come outta sinnoh
Volo:Aw that's cute, I got full team and two phases of a giratina
ahhh i was waiting for a volo comment🤣
Honey is a decent boss too x3 if nothing else to watch her warp space when she throws her Ball out of her hand and chuck a Dynamax Ball with just a flick of her wrist
I just wanna say, I love that you used the Pokemon Masters EX New Year's Pokemon Center theme. Cheers, mate.
would honey (mustards wife) count as a super boss?
JPR: discusses what superbosses are
JPR: shows final marcus
Me: well thats a can of worms i refuse to touch
What’s wrong with Xenoblade?
@@TipOfTheSauce nothing, there’s just debate about whether Final Marcus counts as a superboss or not. While the party can’t get to level 100 like marcus is, you can get to 99, meaning Marcus will be a gray enemy at max level, while the other 4 superbosses will always be red enemies. You can also daze Final Marcus, and you cant daze the other superbosses
Personally I think he counts as a superboss but since hes so much weaker and so different from the others, some dont consider him to be one
unlucky that this was uploaded just before legends dropped. the final postgame fight definitely deserves a spot here.
The final fight isn’t really that difficult if you bring cresselia though. It’s a tank of a Pokémon that can easily take multiple hits and self heal. I beat it first try with no issues
7:50 Pokemon masters: What about we put both of them...TOGETHER?
you forgot to mention a secret suberboss in Sword and Shield
you can fight against Mustards wife if you upgrade the dojo to max
Actually, if you’ve noticed Blue’s team in further games (like B2W2, SM and USUM) he has an Arcanine and a Machamp, so it’d make sense for Red to have them as he may have traded them to him in exchange for Charizard and Aerodactyl.
If this has come out after Legends Arceus, Volo would probably be among the best
The biggest disappointment was not getting to see Wallace beat Steven to become champ.
I am utterly shocked that you didnt include ULTRA NECROZMA in this video. that thing still gives me nightmares
I remember stumbling into Steven and getting stomped during my first playthrough of Emerald
Still wish you could play as marduk against your own player, but playing as masquerade against dan was always fun
I liked how Steven's Emerald battle had the Rival Battle theme
Volo and Arceus deserve a spot in this now
Guess this is more like a secret boss but in ORAS you can find Wally in the battle chatelaine and once you beat him he will show up in the lobby with a full team of 6, Pokémon with hidden abilities and a level 81 mega Gallade which is stronger than steven’s mega metagross during the rematch.
So they're there to imply that Red traded on or the other for Charizard to set up his and Blue's future teams.
nothing was more thrilling then getting surprised by cynthia in undella town and somehow beating her team of level 70s with my level 50s first try
*breaks into summer house in Undella Town*
Cynthia: "YOU PICKED THE WRONG HOUSE, FOOL!"
lol funniest part was SUP ITS ME RED, IM JUST KIND OF HERE! :D LMAOOOO LOVE YOUR VIDS BEEN A SUBSCRIBER FOR A WHILE
My first game was White 1 and when I first stumbled upon Cynthia, my first thought was "Oh my god, why are you so strong?!" and had a new goal to beat in my favorite game at the time.
Good idea getting an editor. You deserve the best!
You walk into that villa in Undella Town a champion, and leave in a bodybag.
You upload in the morning, but for the first time it is night where i am , so happy new year jpr
Happy New Year to you too!
Enter: Volo
I'm definitely not the only one but I loved how random Cynthia is kicking your ass by just entering a house - nothing you would ever expect playing Pokemon since Yellow🤣
I think Honey could've been a super boss since you kinda have to work for the battle. Though it's pretty tedious
Does it even count as a Secret super boss if they don't got a full team of pokemon with levels above 70?
You could do this same video topic for the side games (Mystery Dungeon, Stadium 1 & 2, Colosseum, XD, PBR, Quest, etc.)
No Honey? You may not need to go out of your way to find her, but you do need to go out of your way to collect all those watts and her team is yoked
HS/SS Red used the same party I did in my yellow play through as a kid
Unova memory link vs yourself is a pretty fun superboss. It's like the idea of red but more personalized.
"He's more broke than a college student"
That was so relatable it hurted my soul 😅
I know someone who played Pokémon White, and then did a bling playthrough of Pokémon Platinum. She would panic every time Cynthia appeared
