  • Heidelberg's Echo refers to the audial effect that occurs when two people are standing at the foci of an elliptically-shaped room. Due to the way in which the focal rays interact with the walls of an ellipse, sound coming from one focus will be concentrated and directed to the other focus. This allows for "whispering galleries," structures specifically constructed in this manner to allow for sound to travel efficiently without the need for amplifying equipment.

For parabolic reflection, it's not that any ray coming into the parabola will bounce through the same point, it's only a ray coming straight in to the parabola that will bounce back through the same point. If the ray is coming from off to the side, as a couple of your example diagrams in the video show, it won't actually reflect through the same point. It has to come from directly in front of the parabola.
This is what makes parabolic dishes able to focus so well, as you get this amplifying effect only from what you're directly pointing at. You see the guys with the handheld microphone dishes on the sidelines of football games pointing the dish right at the quarterback when he calls plays, which is why you can hear it so well on the TV broadcast. Also old satellite dishes had to be pointed right at a geosynchronous satellite in order to get the signal. Anything off to the side does not get picked up.

Do you think it's possible some of those sounds that people hear and emanating seemingly from nowhere.
The large boxes sounds that seem to flood the area of the town. The one that makes the police station get dozens of phone calls over and over from different places throughout the town or city. could be caused by some sort of effects similar to this??
1 time it ended up being a slackline with a high concentrated drift air? gust coming from the open Mineshaft
