@AP25H I have but that shouldn't be the first version of batman we're introduced to. He is very clearly an anti hero in those comics and it wouldn't make sense for batman to be so ruthless like that. In the dark knight trilogy and comics you really got a sense of batmans ideals. He believes everybody can be saved so he decides to save Gotham while someone like Ras Al ghul or bane thinks it should just be eliminated entirely because it is beyond saving. Batman believes nothing and no one is beyond saving it's such a core element to is character that made the plots of the movies and comics so engaging. Even in Frank Miller's movies you won't see him using guns although he is much more ruthless he never really killed anyone. Batman is really just like the punisher not a hero in BvS

    • @wiggy009
      @wiggy009 6 років тому +13

@AP25H yes I know batman used to kill in his early days and if you want you can cherry pick examples of him killing in comics but you can not deny that it is a fundamental value that Batman doesn't kill. And it makes Batman a much more interesting character as he struggles to hold on to his own ideals

This is an absolute peak take on the characters of Bruce and Alfred. I could write a whole thesis on these two, their motivations, behaviors, and the way the interact. In my opinion, flawless planning and execution by Snyder. A man broken to what he thinks is beyond the point of return, and the man who raised him, refusing to give up on him, believing that deep down he can still use his gifts for good. Beautiful. I'll never get over it.

It's in the movie. What do you think the blue glowing lights were in his cowl?
For real the suit was super strength enhanced with the goggles built into the armor. Do you think Bruce didn't manufacture a full supersuit to fight superman?
He's going against someone with laserbeams and X-RAY VISION. Too be able to see him coming is detrimental.
This suit was ripped off the Dark Knight Returns suit in the comics.
Also proof that Bruce knows about the X-ray vision in this movie is that he uses gas grenades that release gas with lead in it. Snyder wasn't building up to the next movie here.

"That's how it starts. The fever, the rage. The feeling of powerlessness that turns good men cruel."
An obvious show of concern from Alfred to Bruce, but I found that line especially powerful because I think it hits close to home for some of us. We've suffered injustices, but how far are we willing to go for retribution? I can't count how many times I've wished ill upon or even planned to get even with people who have wronged me or my loved ones in the past when I was powerless or not there to stop it. People do keep forgetting that both this Batman and Alfred are adapted from the dark knight returns iterations, so that’s why this Batman is more violent and authoritative, and this Alfred is supportive but critical too like in the comic. I really wish we could’ve gotten more outta these two actors in future films, cause Alfred isn’t just the butler to Bruce Wayne, he’s his equal too, hence the part where we see Bruce make Alfred coffee for a change, which is a nice touch that I personally like.

Everything about this scene felt like i was either reading a comic book or watching an episode of Batman the animated series, Bruce Wayne entering the batcave through the elevator, Alfred working on one of the batsuits, the burnt graffitied Robin suit hanged up in the cave, Alfred asking Bruce how his night was to Bruce explaining the leads he has on the men he's been tracking to the moment Alfred finally shows him the newspaper article about his brutal methods and questioning him about the dangerous path he is embarking on while Bruce explains that nothing has changed. It has everything you want or need to make a great Batman scene and the way it starts from silence to the music quietly playing really adds so much weight to the mood and dialgoue between these two. All the scenes with Ben Affleck and Jermey Irons were top notch but this one could very well be my all time favourite, it does such a beautiful job in incorporating so much from the cartoons, games and the comics while putting them all together into one complete package.

What you are doing is call nit-picking, and if you want to apply that level of scrutiny to every film....most of the MCU films will seem utterly stupid as well. Lots of nonsensical action, complete disregard for physics (even for a fantasy film), and motives that seem driven purely by the need to advance the plot. How DOES Tony Stark have a power cell embedded in his chest RIGHT WHERE HIS HEART SHOULD BE? Magic nanobots can make any suit or object using zero mass? Ok. An armored suit somehow means you are able to survive a fall from any height....or impacts against objects at extreme speeds?? Nope, you'd be a puddle of liquid inside a highly advanced armored suit. See how deep that rabbit hole can go? If that's how you view film you should definitely stay away from the superhero genre. But I'll bet you typed that whole response thinking you were being clever, didn't you? I've suspended disbelief over elements of films that make your examples seem mundane. Try again.

you know your heart isnt in your breast boned right? its right at the back of your chest behind/between your lungs. is the nanobots making suits out of no mass thing stark again? because in infinity wars they clearly show as he makes and loses more parts of the suit the armour covering his body isnt able to fully cover him any more. at least they fit the logic of their own universe.
its a powered suit so its able to do things like that. in bvs the suit isnt powered so in the rules of this niverse a regular man can swing superman around on the end of a 20 meter rope and smash him through pillars? is the explenation that bruce did some pullups so he can do that now? thats nonsense. in this mvoie that touts itself as a realistic telling of what it would be like if ther really was a superman. they have some regular human do things that break the laws of physics... yeah very realisitc telling
i'd also like to know how point out a complete lack of character development for the lead character is nit picking to you, but from what youve said so far i couldnt give less of a crap about what nonsense you would say in response to that.

Did he want doomsday to destroy the entire planet? Lex apparently wants to destroy everything.
The movie spoons feeds the viewer garbage. Superman can know lois is falling from a building when he had left the city to go have a hallucination of his dead dad on a mountain but he cant find his mother? They dont even put her in a lead lined room or anything.

LOVE THIS SCENE!! The Bruce-Alfred relationship feels straight from the animated series to me. A lot of the theatrical cut pissed me off & didn't work, but this was perfect. The defenders of Killer Batman also love to point out this scene but I think it's obvious he's talking about the branding and more angry/violent nature. Not necessarily the killing. Killing's a major thing and I think they just brushed it off, considering he's been murdering for a while but they don't really go into it

    • @BatsAndNights
      @BatsAndNights 8 років тому +6

They don't go too into it, I'll admit that much, but it is implied in scenes other than this one that Batman has been going too far as of late (a news article Clark is reading LITERALLY reads "Has Gotham's Caped Crusader Finally Gone Too Far?"). Although there's nothing to say whether or not they're talking about both Batman killing and the branding or just the branding. Even in this scene I'd say it's a bit too ambiguous to safely say Alfred is definitely talking about the branding. Even then, while Snyder was dumb enough to kill off Superman in the second fucking movie, I SERIOUSLY hope he wasn't willing to treat the no kill rule seriously. I don't even mean never breaking it, I literally just mean him breaking it being a big deal from now on. I'd be happy if Joker taunted him even slightly about it, talking about how he crossed the line over to his side and shit, would be cool as hell.

I am paying attention to the story being told. And that's why I believe the story being told could've been TEN times better. Imagine the entire Justice League being at Superman's funeral, imagine a Superman being beaten to death by a terrifying monster as he does everything he can to save the people he loves. Wanna know how many Superman comics there were before the death of Superman? THOUSANDS. How many movies did Snyder do Superman? TWO. I want to grow a deep and personal connection with this Superman. But now I can't. And trust me, me using the MCU for my similes doesn't automatically think "ZOMG THE MCU IS THE BEST" No, it isn't. Iron Man 2 was shit, Thor was mediocre at best, etc. In the same way that I thought Man of Steel was good and Batman v Superman was okay but robbed us of seeing some fucking amazing stories being told on the big screen.

This definitely plays up the ex military multi talented Alfred that we have come to love in the more modern comics. It almost makes it reasonable that Bruce can be Batman by being raised by a man like this. However even tho this Alfred is deadly, skilled and talented. He still is very proper, deeply cares for Bruce, and holds a strong since of morality that in reality holds Bruce back from going off the edge. I honestly believe this and Superman's sacrifice is why Batman goes back to not killing human criminals by the time of Suicide Squad.
    Tim Burton's Batman
Alfred: A loyal butler to the Wayne's for years with no real backstory other than he was a really caring individual to Bruce and supported him no matter what. He never really voiced his disagreement seriously or corrected Bruce. He was a loyal servant and a great father figure.
    Christopher Nolan's Batman
Alfred: Came from a long line of butlers that serviced the Wayne's (Potentially had an ex-actor background and I might miss a few details). This Alfred was stated to be the heart of batman where Fox was the brains and bats was the psychical force. A trinity that relied on each other. He voiced his opinion quite often and wasn't above disciplining Bruce. Showing that he was more than just a servant but a surrogate father who deeply cares about him. More so than any other form of Alfred I have seen. You can truly feel the love Alfred has for the young Master Wayne. But he does his job and out of love he does what he can to help Batman's crusade.
    Zack Synder's Batman
Alfred: This is definitely the ex-military origin that was retconned in Earth One with a mixer of the more modern 90s and early 2000s Alfred. Alfred as been for quite some time in the comics an actor and intelligence agent. He was changed to SAS, to Air Force Medic, to both plus being a spy and actor. To so many different spy/military backgrounds. However the type I believe this one to be is this. I filled in allot the backstory because not much is given yet.
He was a former medic in the Royal Marine's and served with Thomas Wayne potentially joint operation where they became good friends both having saved each other's life. Thomas went to gain his inheritance, became a doctor and created Wayne Industries in Gotham where Alfred continued his career through MI6. When Alfred quit to follow his life long dream of becoming an actor he failed miserably and really fail on hard times. Thomas upon hearing this hired his friend as his head of security. Alfred heard death threats against the Wayne's and advised Thomas not to go out. But Thomas did and ended up dying. It is later that he found out that he was the listed Godfather of Bruce and a letter asking Alfred to promise to take care of him. Feeling guilty for not protecting the Wayne's he agree. He presents himself as a butler how else would you explain him valeting and servicing Bruce. Calling him Master(Which is just proper) but in reality he is a mentor. He was the first trainer of Batman and his personal adviser to this day on cases. He uses his skills in intelligence, medical and military experience to service Batman. In a way he has always supported Bruce's vigilantist ways because he too wants revenge and justice. But he always out of deep care for Bruce wants them to be on a moral high ground. He still is very proper, deeply cares for Bruce, and holds a strong since of morality that in reality holds Bruce back from going off the edge.

Exactly. The movie isn't saying it's ok that Batman kills. Its saying it isn't, that something is wrong with Bruce. That's the whole point. Nolan's Batman would have headed down the same path, as would every iteration of Batman. You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain. We just happen to be seeing Batman at that point. He's still the same Batman, he's just gone too long without results. It took Superman to bring him back from the brink of straight out murdering in cold blood. Before that, he indirectly killed. He had the attitude that if you happen to be in the car that's shooting at him and you get killed, then you shouldn't have been there. He justifies it. He convinced himself that he isn't killing. He has PTSD.
I love this interpretation. No, Batman doesn't kill. But, the movie is making you ask why he does. It's not glorifying it and it's not something he always did.
I think people miss that in the film. Batman doesn't kill, but a Batman that goes long enough may.

"You've changed things... forever. There's no going back."
(shows Bruce watching replays of footage of people he is looking into and wanting to defeat).
This scene seems like a pretty direct reference to The Dark Knight ("everything's changed" and the footage of Kryptonians as a threat Bruce wants to defeat).
I have high hopes for the future of DC movies; I'm glad they introduced a new Batman because Bale's wouldn't have worked, and it was nice to see a superhero story with a real end, as opposed to a villain of the week scenario (the best comic stories are not villain of the week crap; they alter continuity and character for real).
    But yeah, TDK forever.

@@marcusyancey9670 it's completely okay, it's more than okay for anyone that's telling their story to do as they want as long as their is a reason behind it. A logical one, the film was digging into, clearly would of been explored and more deeply explained if we would of gotten to see Ben Afflecks solo trilogy and how he got to where he did. Comic books do it, they have their own interpretations all the time. It was in one film he was okay with people dying, he clearly lost his mind and he realized that. No one needs to cry over this and get their feelings hurt and say the movie is now crap. People bitch so much and ruin shit because they dont want to understand shit. You could say " I dont like that hes killing in this film, I want to understand where this is coming from(even thought it was explained very well in BvS but I guess it wasn't enough for the haters) I want to see this explained further and see how he became this way vs this film is shitty it's the worst, zack snyder this Zack snyder that(even though he didnt write the film)fuck wb and blah blah blah. People are so sensitive these days. Give the films a chance, there was a whole plan for all of this universe and story. It's funny because in the tim burton films their is so much killing too from batman but the haters dont bitch(as they shouldn't anyway). Let the filmmakers do what they're doing, they have a plan and a vision and they know what they are doing much more than you and me do and especially more than the sensitive butthurt people.

I actually love all of the Batman stuff in this film. It was everything that made the movie suck, and ended up sinking the entire DCEU, which is unfortunate

    • @TBrown3117
      @TBrown3117 6 років тому +9

TheeLightBearer oh boy I'll try to keep this as short as possible
      1) Superman is not likeable (granted I dont dislike him per se, rather I find him bland and mopey)
      2) most of the characters motivations make no sense or they have flawed logic
      3) the movie wastes time trying to make Batman hate Superman more (bombing of congress + his vision/dream sequence) which is pointless IMO because Batman already hates Superman and thinks he's a threat because of what happened in Man of Steel. If they cut those sequences out the movie would run a lot smoother
      4) Simply put, ALOT of the things in the film don't make sense (Superman getting blamed for the incident in Africa, Lex Luthors plan regarding doomsday, Batman being manipulated by Lex, I can go on)
      5) Hardly any establishing shots: it's hard to get engrossed in this universe when there aren't that many establishing shots. The lack of these shots also make for really sloppy scene transitions.
      6) MARTHAAAAAA
and for the love of god please don't try to explain it to me. I understand what Snyder was going for, it just failed in execution and was extremely laughable.
      7) Wonder Woman was shoe-horned into the movie to establish the Justice League when they didn't need to do that (or if they had to, at least put the sequence in an end credits scene). Again it was just more waisted time
      8) The doomsday fight: doomsday was just a giant monster they had to fight at the end. There is no internal conflict, and no ideas/morals being challenged.
Now I am FINE with something like this in a superhero movie IF the movie is just trying to be goofy/lighthearted (like the marvel films) BUT in a film like BvS thats trying to be a deep, thought-provoking, political film we need something better than that.
      9) Superman's death: Superman dies unnecessarily (seriously Batman could have stabbed doomsday) only to be resurrected by the time of Justice League. This makes his sacrifice lose all of its value.
      10) The depressing tone: again I'm fine with a depressing superhero movie (like The Dark Knight or Logan) BUT all of the other elements need to be there. I need to like the characters and the writing needs to be great. BvS just doesn't have that, and when you compound that with a depressing tone it makes for a really miserable viewing experience.
      Good Things in the film:
      Ben Affleck as Batman
      Jeremy Irons as Alfred
      Han Zimmer makes great music
And if you like this movie that's fine, don't let me stop you from enjoying it, but objectively speaking there is a LOT wrong with this movie.
