Man i went out after 3 years of no surfing thinking I could paddle out to the lineup no problem like before and was out of breath before I even made it there. Lmao Definitely gonna try some of these tips
- get a theraband black, silver or gold. (the hardest). and do a full-body exercize. - fill two 2L waterbottles. put a chair in front of the sofa. lie on your tummy, with hips on chair, feet sticking out onto the sofa, breast extended in mid-air. grab your water bottles and simulate paddling. if it gets boring put a laptop with freediving videos in front of your face.
Hey Chris, I’m a 65 year old woman who wants to do a surf/ yoga retreat in Panama January’25. I’m in relatively good shape with a history of yoga and strength training. I just downloaded your app. I can swim but never surfed before. Two questions: is this crazy and if not, what’s best to start with in the program?
I plan on starting surfing again but it has been years since I have hit the line up and even then paddling was always my weak point. I was thinking that I could just do a ton of laps at my local pool to get in top paddling shape.. anyone of yous here use swimming as training for surfing?? How is it going?
My local 25m pool just opened up again a couple of weeks ago. They have these little sponge floats (about half boogie size) that the kids normally play on and the lifeguard will fetch one out for me. It almost floats me lying on my beer belly so I paddle one length, duck dive, then sprint paddle back and duck dive the imaginary set the other end. Twenty minutes or so of that then recover before a length or two underwater just slow and steady to build up my capacity for a hold down. Where I am, it’s a long drive to get decent waves so I’ve been doing this in between surfs for years but we’ve been in lockdown pretty much all winter so I’m out of condition now.
My luck doing the towel thing from the door, the towel will slip out & I'll land on my booty and/ or head. 😂 What size is the exercise ball you used in this vid?
Coconut cream cause that’s what I put in my coffee 😂 Thanks so much for this. Where I’m at they closed the beaches, cannot surf... and I actually just recently bought a stability ball, so these workouts are perfect!!
Great start! Age 65, not surfing enough for a while, embarrassed myself last swell. On a mission TO PADDLE STRONG NEXT HURRICANE! Bring it!

nah that second one doesnt make sense. better to do same setup with bands in front of you to simulate the pull of the water

Go to a break where the waves are small or much calmer, or even better go to a lake if you want and get paddling! It’ll come back before you know it
Wish I saw this video before I popped my shoulder out paddeling because I got mugged a while before (they kicked it out)
