Your clinical sounds a lot chiller than my program’s clinical. We have a daily journal to write that includes all labs (explaining deviations, why, how to resolve and trends) meds( side effects, reason, dose, safe range) literally all the info on the computer. We would get there 2 hours early to find a pt the day of and write down info before our preceptor came in.
We don't get our assigned nurse/patients until the morning of when we are at the hospital and we usually pick a patient that has a condition that we have not seen before to specifically do our care plan on. Keep these types of videos coming love to see fellow nursing students show their personal experiences with their program! :)
Love these nursing blogs! With the serve, when I was younger my coach always had us practicing the toss for ages, we had to throw it up and let it bounce to get a feel for where they land. Slightly in front was the goal! Then we could progress to hitting it, he used to say to ‘meet it as it falls rather than reaching for it; this will give you the most control.’ Hope that is helpful and that you keep having fun!
I agree with your mom about your toss! If you toss it up a little straighter and closer to your body it should help :) I also would recommend trying not to jump at first, then once you get the toss a little better then start jumping! That’s what worked for me at least 😊
i think i want to be a nurse when i graduate, watching your channel really helps and gives me some knowledge! thank you and i think your gonna be an AMAZING nurse!
for labs learn value fishes (thats what I've been calling them lol). they are so easy to memorize and they help with keeping things simple and compact. there's ones for chemistry, hematology, liver, anti coag, and even ABG's. it can take a bit to memorize, but once you know where things go it can be life-changing. Also try different report sheets! they are easily shreddable, and I've used one report sheet with different pen colors for one patient for multiple shifts in a row.
I love your day in my life videos so much! I have absolutely no idea what it’s like to be a nursing student myself but through you I have learned what it’s like. It’s been really intriguing! Those pajamas are super cute btw!! I love cozy pjs. Also, I went to your instagram but didn’t find anything about your senior capstone and I’m super interested in knowing what you chose. I also really love your apartment videos because I’m moving into my first apartment next Thursday and am super excited about it. Your apartment videos have helped give me lots of ideas! To answer the question of the day: my least favorite chore is cleaning the bathroom, and my most favorite chore is doing the laundry. I hope you’re having a great day! Much love!
Laundry is so relaxing to do! I'm so excited for your your big move & I hope it goes as smoothly as possible! Cuz you left me the sweetest comment I'll tell ya what my capstone is: I am on the neuro trama unit for school aged kids at my fav children's hospital!! So excited that I got into peds!
@@KiaraMadisen Thank you! I hope it goes smoothly too. Also, I love your capstone! It’s always sweet to see nursing students go for positions where they get to work with children. I found that those positions are always some of the best! Right now, I am studying to be a teacher, and working with children is something I have always wanted to do. It’s seriously the best decision I have made! I hope everything goes well for you. Super excited for you to take us along!
Way to go Kiara! You're killing it! Such an inspiration for getting things done and achieving your goals ❤My favorite chore is probably folding and putting away warm laundry. Least favorite might have to be doing dirty dishes. Also, I'm moving back to Portland very soon and cannot wait!
@@KiaraMadisen Absolutely Kiara! There’s no better feeling then warm laundry. Thanks for the wishes on my future move! I bet you’ll be enjoying the gorgeous Portland summer weather on the boat!
I just finished 2nd semester of my nursing program. We get assigned a nurse and then once we do report at the beginning of the shift, the nurse helps decide what patient is focused in the care plan. So excited for you Kiara ☺️
So different from when I was in nursing school. We were an ATI school, feel your pain with those tests. Our clinical was very different… very involved care plans and we also did concept maps for our assigned patients. Good luck! ❤
Hey Kiara! Have you considered using reusable snack bags or containers instead of plastic baggies for your snacks? They end up being a lot cheaper in the long run & help reduce the amount of plastic we're all using!
Good morning Kiara!! Thanks for giving us a new video to start off the day! You're certainly getting off to a productive start with this upload, I hope you have a great day!
Loved the video as always!! For your serve, you can throw the ball way higher and even a bit more above you than in front, that way you have more time with the ball to speed it up. I hope that makes sense, english isnt my first language :)
I am graduating from nursing school this week and for my first years we looked up types of conditions/meds that may be on that specific floor and prepped by being familiar with them. As seniors, we don’t do any prep but go in and receive patients as if we are a nurse coming in for our shift!
My favourite thing to clean is definitely my room, in specifics my laundry, I love my doing laundry. My least favourite thing to clean is 2 things, the garbage and dishes!
Good morning! My favorite chores are definitely cleaning my kitchen and taking out the garbage and my least favorite is either putting away laundry or making my bed 😂 two very simple tasks i just constantly put off… also LOVE the nursing school content 💗 best of luck in your last term!!
We don’t get patient prep time. We show up at 6:30 and get placed with a patient that morning, spend time in their charts, and immediately do a shift assessment on them… it’s stressful
At my school we don't do patient prep the day before! We just get to the floor and are assigned a patient, and then take 30 minutes during handoff to look over the chart. But we do have LONG care plans
The fact that you spend the most time getting your life together on your bed makes me feel so good! Soul sistas! I love studying in bed! Keep hustling girl ❤️🔥
I will be starting nursing school in August! How do you feel about using an iPad to take notes? What are something’s you wish you would of got for school from the start? Keep working hard!
Salt vinegar chips are the best! I get why you like them! 😍😍 Also I love your videos. They help me to be more produktive. I follow you for a really long time and it feels like you are the older sister I never had 🥰
favorite household chore is definitely laundry!! least favourite is cleaning the bathroom 100%....especially the shower. i have no idea why but i just hate it so much! lol
My school doesn’t require care plans at all. Our clinicals are at really tiny hospitals (like 2-3 RNs per unit sometimes) so we aren’t assigned to a typical unit, just whatever nurses are willing to take us.
We got assigned two patients & then we found their nurse. it was always annoying because we always had two different nurses so it made getting report so hard. To look up the patients we came in at 6:30 am so we were ready for report at 7 am! Our care plans were also so extensive. 30+ pages at a time. Spent more time writing stuff down for my care plans than i did doing clinical things
Good luck with your last few weeks of term! How are you finding your hospital placement now? I remember you weren't feeling super optimistic after your first day there, so I'm curious to hear if you've found your place, made friends with the nurses, etc.
Putting your thumb on top of the ball loosely when serving helps it from rolling off your palm in the wrong direction and set it in the right spot! Loose arm and moving weight forward when tossing help too!
think if the ball toss on your serve like a clock, ideally you throw it at the 12 ocolock position. your toss looks just way too far out at front so not only are you chasing the toss but your body is collapsing bc of it. hope that helps !
For my school, our adjunct assigns our patients, and we have to go in an hour before clinical starts and jot everything down! We get pretty much the same information as you!
Yay!! Another nurse video. Love these. Can’t you wait to graduate and just focus on work? I wasn’t a fan of school. So happy I graduated. Will you still be doing UA-cam videos?
My favorite "chore" is to Cook, I love cooking but I hate the after Math of having to clean all the dishes and to put them in the cabines, I always ask my brother to do that but if not I have to do it. Cooking is fun until you have like 30 dishes to clean
You’ve probably been asked this a million times, but where do you get your to do list notepads with check mark boxes? I am so in need of something similar!
Good luck! Don’t let the 12 hours scare you. You’ll get used to it, and the time won’t seem so long. Try and take every opportunity to learn that you can.
Hey! Im in an after degree program in Canada and our research is very similar, except our instructors assign us patients each week (we dont choose). We only have to hand in our research the morning of clinical, and the instructor reviews it throughout the day and provides feedback. How many patients do you guys usually have each week?
Good morning. Good Thursday morning. Make it a good day. I love nursing day in the life vlogs. I’m so proud of you. You’re going to be an amazing nurse. Do you watch Grey’s? Do you know what Prednisone is? Do you know what Azathioprine is? Those are two meds I am on. I think both help to suppress my immune system. Prednisone is so powerful. It’s no joke.
How many clinicals will you have before you graduate?! My school had 7 80 hour clinicals (med surg, peds, labor and delivery, medsurg 2, mental health, community, icu) and then a 200 hour practicum.
Not a fan of washing dishes; I do wash them all every day though because I can't stand leaving them dirty, especially not my mugs. But I can organize anything stationery, office supplies, and tech related for hours 😅 I do suck at cleaning mirrors though.

I would hopefully wake up in time to maybe get some Starbucks in me then hope I could either find a granola bar somewhere or something to hold me over until lunch then if they had something in the cafeteria I liked great if not I guess I will figure it out from there lol
Have you decided what hospital you want to work at or doesn't matter? You should go to Glass door to get reviews on where you want to work to get an idea what you're getting yourself into. If a company has too many positive reviews, don't work there. I worked at a company who they forced their employees to post positive reviews or they would get written up.
