Sis I feel you, as a fourth year, pre-med student nurse, I realized nursing is more on the side of what is the best patient care that a nurse can do in a specific subjectified manner. While medicine, it is what it is, as it is on the medical books. Very technical. Oh well. Best of luck to the both of us! Hahahahaha!
For the first question staph is not the most common cause of meningitis at any age. Strep pnumonea is the most common in adults and elderly N.meningitis is the most common cause in children and teenagers. group B strep is the most common in neonates (it used to by H.influenza but that has changed due to vaccination regimes). And listeria is common in immunocompromised. To get a staph in any infection is rare and mostly due to immunocompromised individuals and individuals who take IV drugs. But staph it is the most common cause of septic arthritis and osteomyelitis.
Yeah I was like all of the choices were indicative of meningitis except for staph lol. Got CMOPS, HAEMOP, and the other two were GEL (Group B, E.coli, Listeria) for meningitis. I didn’t even know staph causes meningitis.
But still, as a nurse, with a very very very broad perspective on diseases and medicine in itself? She did really well. I agree USMLE is very shookening. Considering that some Doctors look down upon nurses as hospital maids. Nursing as a job, especially in my country the Philippines is underrated. Considering that nurses make the hospitals their second home. While doctors only do a 5-10 minute rounds. I am a 4th year premed student nurse. And I have respect for these nurses.
@@CrazyAsianDude Never said anything about that. I was very impressed with the intelligent she possesses and I'm happy that her patients will be in good hands. I purely wanted to comment on the immense challenges physically and mentally from the USMLE step 1 that most medical students have to go through.
@@CrazyAsianDude And I'm sorry nurses aren't probably respected in the Philippines. In the U.S., despite major problems with healthcare, we navigate healthcare as a team of equals. I have a lot of respect for the nurses I work with and I'm constantly learning from them, especially if they have years of experience over me. We have our own expertise and we treat each other with respect, whether they're physician, front desk, nurse, social worker or the janitorial staffs. The fact that you immediately assume what you did from what I said tells me that the toxic hierarchical environment of healthcare is still imminent in parts of the world and that makes me sad.
I’m so tired of this girl and her belittling the physician med school exams. She knows nobody uses board vitals, cause these are easy one-order questions that you will never see on USMLE. they are just easy recall types. A more accurate example is AMBOSS USMLE so you can see the difficulty, but she is too scared to do difficult type questions that are more representative so she chose an easy, baby level app that no one in med school uses. Her bf is too nice for her. She is obsessed with appearing as something she isnt and she needs to belittle her bf to do so. No wonder why all her followers are nurses and not physicians.
I love this video because it shows how nurses and doctors each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Each specializing in their own expertise! I am a baby nursing student and I loved trying to answer those NCLEX questions with Kevin!
Fun video. I am an RN and MD, have done both tests, so I am one of those that can speak with authority on this matter. I took both the Nightingale Pledge and the Hippocratic Oath. Honestly, the tests are not alike in any way. Nurses don't study medicine nor know or understand medical management. Nursing theory and nursing practice are quite different. Doctors don't study nursing nor know or understand nursing management. NCLEX is not nearly as highly developed as USMLE, for example "computer adaptive" exams were left behind by USMLE more than 10 years ago as it is demonstrated to decrease the validity of the exam. Obviously there is overlap because of the context. In addition, from a logic standpoint, nursing uses deductive reasoning, medicine uses inductive and abductive reasoning. NCLEX is a single qualifying exam. To make a more fair comparison you would need to compare it to USMLE Step 1, 2, CS, and 3 together. But even that isn't quite fair. NCLEX question number is max 265, pass that and you can practice nursing. USMLE Step 1 is 280 questions, Step 2 CK is max 318 questions, Step 2 CS is H&P and note on 12 live simulated patients, Step 3 is 232 the fist day and 180 on the second day plus 13 computer case simulations (CCS). That's five days of testing, 1010 questions, and 25 cases. And after all that you are still not qualified to practice medicine! Elimination is the poorest test strategy on USMLE by the way. No patient has a multiple choice list tattoo. Both tests, NCLEX and USMLE, are designed for general qualification. Not understanding fetal hypoxemia is not "why we have specialists". That is simple and foundational for any nurse or medical student. It's scary that you don't easily know and understand the answer to the first one. The labs relate directly to the physical presentation, in other words the rash and the DIC. Not knowing that is deadly. Guessing is deadly. Guessing is not getting it right. .
Damn bro you went off. In all seriousness, you do have a point, and in medicine, it’s crucial to have a deep understanding that is constantly being refreshed and updated to fit the wide variety of situations that one can encounter while working in the field. I wouldn’t have said it as aggressively as you did, but yeah, the mentality of, “I’ll study in med school then forget most of the stuff once I’m out,” is not a good one to have when lives are on the line.
Same with the guessing point. It’s a very “in the moment” way of looking at it. I understand that in reality it’s an exam, but promoting and saying that guessing is a huge part of these exams is pretty harmful considering the implications that could have once you’re actually practicing.
Very cool to see your input! I agree that it's crucial to just know in real world. I knew before the answer was shown that it was Nesseria, but I don't know his background. Maybe it's his first year as a medical student, and I certainly didn't really get it then. I didn't get the concept of DIC the way I do now. Everything just clicks when you are reviewing for Step 1
This was honestly really insightful, it was bugging me the last couple days what breadth/depth of knowledge is different between doctors and nurses. Now I see those test questions and I'm like 😅 gotcha
From what I can see, nurses tend to have a more pragmatic set of knowledge. The doctors need to know a whole bunch in order to know what/how to properly diagnose and treat the actual health issue. And then the nurses know how to carry it out! I definitely can be wrong and am open to any correction :)
Sarah Christine 100% agree. There are doctors that have no idea how to use IV pumps and then there’s also me an new grad RN who doesn’t know how to do a lot of what doctors do lol!
I wouldn't base it on this. Step 1 is not very representative and although valid, these questions were pretty easy for Step 1. Step 2 CK more representative

@@sarahchristine6025 After having been through nursing school now, I understand this comment a lot better. The USMLE questions require the student to think with a diagnostic mindset. While there is science and patho for the nurse to have a grasp on in order to treat the manifestations of something and understand why they might be happening (high HR, pain, swelling etc.), the doctor has to narrow down what the condition actually is and order the appropriate treatments for that set of symptoms. Then as you said, the nurse carries the order out. These knowledges have to work hand in hand with each other.
In patient one I knew it was A b/c his neck was sore. Shout out to Kevin for bringing up the DIC, as I just had a hematology exam last week and need that reminder. I just knew the patient was bleeding but didn't connect it to DIC.
Oh this is great! I did 3 minutes of reading on Meningococcal today and I knew the answer to the first question right away :D The biggest give away was that the culture was taken from CSF. I'm only 4 weeks into my degree, feeling good right now, which is a nice change from crying.. lol

Can only speak for Med/nursing students really and this is just anecdotal so lowest base of evidence. But from my experience as a 4th year medical student working alongside two nurse practitioner students there is definitley a gap in knowledge. In terms of pathophysiology and explaining why one medication is a better option than another class, Im better at that than the nursing students. That being said, Im a fish out of water sometimes when it comes to more practical knowledge. Unlike the nursing curriculum, us medical students dont get to do many blood draws, lumbar punctures, or procedures throughout our education. Their clinical knowledge although basic, is tempered in their countless hours of early clinical practice. Doctors do eventually outpace nurses and the knowledge gap becomes even larger, but again that happens much later as Residency tempers medical students into actual MDs.
How did you become an EMT while being a premed student? I’m curious bc I’m getting out of high school soon and I’d like to work as an EMT for undergrad. I think I’d really enjoy it and it would also look good for medical schools.
Victor Angel Join an EMS program and once you graduate from the program, work as an EMT or Paramedic however far you go and take your pre req courses for medical school.
This video is so great! I am a foreign MD, so I have studied for the USMLE, but at the end I decided to become a Certified Midwife (best decision ever btw!) and many of my classmates are nurses. It has been so great to learn the *real* differences between doctor vs nurse vs midwife. None is more/less than the other; they are DIFFERENT professions that overlap in knowledge. 3rd question looks more like from Step 2. I also thought the 1st one was B because I associate H. influenza with children.
I'm a nurse and so happy I got the first one right as well... Also not knowing what A actually was. The fever and decreased arousal made me side with inflammation from Meningitis and thing moving slow. Got excited and had to comment on the first one 🤣
I just got my STEP 1 results back a few hours ago (I passed!!) !!! My school only gave us one month to study for STEP since it was pass/fail this year and that month was the most stressful month of my life. Can't imagine having to take it when it was still scored
Please don’t. I know most mean no harm, but you’re taking a spot from a person who actually wants to be a nurse while there is a huge nursing shortage. We need nurses. Choose a different major please (I mean this comment in the nicest way).
@@Zay13378 Hi, can you please explain your answer. Are you saying that that someone who graduates with a BSN has less chance of getting into med school? Is that because they can't pass the tests or because the medical school directors don't want them? As to financially worse is it more expensive to get a 4 year degree BSN, as opposed to a 4 year degree BS with the required courses. I find this very interesting as my child has a BSN as is trying to decide if they want to get a DNP in nursing or apply to medical school (which is much more expensive) thank you for your answer in advance.
@@MParentWetmore Well MCAT statistics mixed with application acceptance statistics do say that any sort of specialized health degree such as nursing do get the worse average MCAT score and have the lowest chance of getting accepted. However there is really no other cons to it, just like any other degree you control your destiny! Story hard for the MCAT and keep that GPA high and you have just as good as a chance as any other good applicant. Remember that stats are based on a group your chances are up to you.
Ok these are not Step 1 USMLE questions at least in the US. Do UWORLD or NBME style questions cuz these are like baby questions. Step 1 is 10X harder than these😩😩 (US medical student)
To be fair, physicians just order insulin. Never really pull it up. I'm an Internal medicine physician and I didn't know that they are pulled in the same syringe either.
@@lexil508 I know right. That's the reason these are 2 different professions I guess. I remember having a tough time drawing up meds during a mega code in ACLS training as a resident. I don't think that they would pressure them to become docotrs. But they definitely would advise them to. And their children shouldn't worry about becoming doctors, as there parents definitely have left text books behind that the child could read for entertainment and gain knowledge early on.
Those questions are not indicative of step 1 questions at all. The vignettes are usually way longer and the emphasis is more on basic science vs clinical reasoning. Some of those questions are also more step 2 ck material (eg nonstress tests). A big component of step 1 is also how fast you can get thru the questions. Doing a timed block of 40 questions would’ve made a lot more sense.

I'm a nursing student, and I just got past med surg 1 and as soon as I saw the insulin question I was just like, Nancy Reagan Registered Nurse!!!!
I really like this kind of content. Thank u Miki and Kevin for making one! I would appreciate if you do it again 😁
this video was so fun to watch! i am a pre-med student and an EMT and I was guessing along with you guys 😂😅
@@victorangel1698 Plan ahead and take an EMT course during the summer
I think you should do a video on how you and Kevin prepared for you respective exams it would help a lot of people looking forward to take these exams
Correction: H influenzae
I love how despite her busy schedule she wanted to make us enjoy the video I love her :))
key words help too. stiff neck + CSF = meningitis! awesome vid!
Idk where they are getting those questions but I have never once seen a USMLE question that are as easy as those 😶
I'm a nurse and so happy I got the first one right as well...
I'm just a tech and I did well. I learned all that I don't know in the Navy. Corpsmen rock the medical field!
This is when I say that Nursing is the best pre-med. Lol
Statistically and financially it's arguably the worse though.
@@Zay13378 thank you! I'll tell my son to study extra hard 😊
Ok these are not Step 1 USMLE questions at least in the US. Do UWORLD or NBME style questions cuz these are like baby questions. Step 1 is 10X harder than these😩😩

Thank you guys!! I just passed my NCLEX RN yesterday.. you guys are insipiration❤️❤️❤️
Congratulation🎉🎊
Y'all should do a ethnicity tag together!!❤❤For ur next video
Love u guys💞 supporting from Argentina 🇦🇷
Found you through TikTok and was afraid of it being deleted so I found your UA-cam Love you guys!!😃
Im genuinely surprised he didnt know the insulin question!! love this video
To be fair, physicians just order insulin. Never really pull it up. I'm an Internal medicine physician and I didn't know that they are pulled in the same syringe either.
Shalini that’s so interesting!!
@@lexil508 I know right. That's the reason these are 2 different professions I guess. I remember having a tough time drawing up meds during a mega code in ACLS training as a resident. Then again, I never really administered meds in real codes, just ordered them. It is very different and definitely challenging.
@@chiravuris When you have free time, you should probably get to know some hands on nurse training, like why not?
@@josephdahdouh2725 Absolutely! I agree with that
her skin !!!!!!! literally goals
WTF, these questions are nothing like Step 1.
This is a joke.
where do u create ur thumbnails?? i really love how you keep everything to a certain aesthetic preset. ima new youtuber, learning all of this! and also great content on this, i also tried the questions while u guys were doing this. reminded me of my nclex haha
me as a new grad nurse getting all the Step 1 and NCLEX questions right 👁👄👁
I really don’t think I know anything most of the time 😂
I love this concept!!! This was a fun video
Imagine doing tests for fun
They really have chemistry 😍❤❤❤❤
Haemophilus Influenza isn’t the flu.

Get it girl!
Love you guys!! I was just wondering what is it like being a children’s nurse? I’ve been working towards being one but I’d love to know what it’s like 🤍
Meningitis stiff neck is one of a major signs I was told my the ER docs I work with
Ideal age milestone for drawing a triangle is five years. And it goes like a circle >a square > a triangle
Thanks you guys I appreciate this video sooo much!!! As a student nurse preparing to take the NCLEX next month, I took the questions alongside you guys, and it's my first time encountering USMLE questions, which was interesting and insightful to get that perspective. Overall a fun exercise :) PS you guys are such a cute couple
It’s currently 00:30 in the UK but I canttt miss thisssss
*is a doctor*
"Ugh I'm dumb"
I had no idea what they were saying, I just started pre med lol. but I’ll come back after another 6-7yr after I finish my step 1 exam and we’ll see how much I’ve improved hehe
I love the videos with both you guys! Kevin’s reactions at each question is hilarious! 😂 You guys are so cute together! Do you think you guys could ever work together or would it be hard to be around each other when you’re both in business mode?
I am straight but Kevin is so fucking smart and hot! #teamkevin 😩
Thanks for the video 👌🏻 It was entertaining 😊 Miki you’ve done a really good job answering, I couldn’t guess right nursing questions either 🙈 as a general practitioner 😥
sooo cute... kevin is such a keeper 🥰 and miki is so sweet... #sanaall #perfectmatch 💕
You guys are so cute together. I just love watching you both. That Dog is adorable.
This was suggested to me by UA-cam and I loved it! Ahhh
Staph isn’t the most common cause of bacterial meningitis, strep pneumo is.
Yeh and he’s having DIC it’s obviously n. Meningitis
I’m gonna start out as a nurse then save up money get a good chunk of the debt down and then start med school I wanna be an OB
Their child is gonna have so much pressure though.☹️ maybe they won’t want to be a doctor
I don't think that they would pressure them to become docotrs. But they definitely would advise them to. And their children shouldn't worry about becoming doctors, as there parents definitely have left text books behind that the child could read for entertainment and gain knowledge early on.
Great video, I was following right along. Help him study Miki.
This was so much fun!!!! You'll make an adorable couple both intellectually and physically
This is my first time watching one of your videos instead of a short, so my first time seeing you talk.
You don’t exactly look like her but you talk a lot like Jennie from blackpink.
hi! thanks for the promo code. when does it expire?
Omg, Kevin is already talking about what he would do with his future kids, so sweet ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Im so inlove with you guys! ❤️
Captions have me 😂 4:10 "plus you need to know why all the other Asians are wrong"
How did he get the first question wrong???? That's literally the easiest question you'll ever get on Step 1 lol
he obviously hasnt studied for them yet lmao
@@naomijenkins1100 the dude's actually a resident. The first question isn't THAT easy. Lots of things cause meningitis, the most common juts happens to be Strep pneumo. OP is not a med student (check his profile he's in HS)
What's sad is that they kind of cherry picked the EASIEST step 1 questions that don't even require med school knowledge. These are the ones that 95% of kids get right on Uworld.. the "oh i see this buzzword i immediately know the answer" kind. Peaked T waves = hyperK, cat litter + pregnancy = toxo... literally any cat owner and anyone who has taken physiology courses could answer that. And like the most basic of OB questions on step? Not a single multi-level thinking question on here
I literally said the answer before I even saw the choices. I'm an RN. SMH.
This man must have done shitty on step1
@@KoolKid0921 right? They’re missing basics. Assess, Asses, Asses. Pt symptoms stiff neck, automatically going to make you think of meningitis.
Never clicked this fast❤️❤️
Love those Idea .
Number 1 fan here ... From the Philippines ❤️
Love y’all big hug 🤗
Dude if only the usmle is as easy as that practice exam
I got all the NCLEX right and I'm so happy lol. Supposed to be taking NCLEX-PN in a few weeks!
She is soo smart.
You should do more of these! This was fun! :)
