    And I put to rest some of the comments I received that my dummy load resistances might not be accurate and that's why Im getting these low numbers on some amplifiers.

    It didn't make the power because the voltage was too low. Anybody could figure that out. That's not the amp's fault, it's the operator's fault.

I've watched a few of your videos and was impressed with the 1500w rating on the 1200w amp. I was just given two kicker 15inch dual-core 2ohm cvr subs. Not my ideal jl w7 has great bass. Your opinion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    • @TheAmpLab
      @TheAmpLab  9 років тому +2

      Certified shows how much power the amp made before it hit 1% distortion. 1% is what many believe to be the audible limit. Do anything below that is inaudible distortion. So certified is perfectly clean power. Uncertified is up to clipping. This is the point where the waveform coming out of the amp no longer resembles a "wave". The amp has run out of headroom. Clipping kills sub's.

    At any point did we learn what your power supply was capable of? I see 14.4 volts which is what every amp is rated at for CEA compliance but am curious as to the amperage capability of your power source. If it is capable of 300 amps for the duration of the test, that's good enough for me. If not, then your test may fall short from lack of power.
    Also would like to know the signal source...this is important because as we all know, a subpar signal (low voltage) will fail to drive the amp sufficiently either.

    • @TheAmpLab
      @TheAmpLab  9 років тому

      Most cars are not capable of 300A either. So this test is actually more relevant to real world. CEA ratings are also only at 4-ohm. Not anything lower, so its not compatible anyways.

      @TheAmpLab  9 років тому

      *comparable

    • @SoundExtreme1
      @SoundExtreme1 9 років тому +4

      Yes sir I agree BUT the person buying a 2400w RMS amp will hopefully have enough sense to upgrade the power supply rather than rely on the stock alternator/battery.
      The power supply is critical to show what the amp is truly capable of. If you don't have the current, then your test means nothing because the amp was held back by the supply.
      The manufacturer isn't lying if they supply the amp with 14.4V and more than enough amperage to get the rated power. That's the point.
      I understand real world application but it isn't fair when it comes to a huge amp like that. EVERY single manufacturer uses the 14.4V supply on their test bench so if you want to be truthful and accurate you must also do the same.
      Example: It isn't fair to test a Kicker 600w RMS amp which is also rated at 14.4V and then bash another amp that is much larger using the same exact rating method when you don't have enough power to supply that larger amp.

    • @TheAmpLab
      @TheAmpLab  9 років тому +1

      If the final voltage ends up being close to the same with each amplifier then it is more than fair.
      What's not fair, is amplifier manufacturers rating amplifiers at 14.4 Volts

    • @Tallman7377
      @Tallman7377 4 роки тому

      @@TheAmpLab Idiot again. What's relevant to the real world is a running car at 14 volts, which the amp is rated for to make the power advertised. Your lack of constant and consistent power closely resembles your brain functions.

  • @critixizer
    @critixizer 9 років тому +2

    i like that you're voltage is kinda realistic on any stock electrical system... however the rated 2ohm measurement on this is not any where near what you said. it's rated 1600rms @2ohms... now if i remember that is based off of a 14.4v electrical system. the difference in your 12.9v and 14.4v is pretty significant to reach any where near that level of certified power. but in the real world, this is exactly what your average buyer or novice car audio enthusiast is going to receive from this amp. if you want to see what potential the hifonics line really holds you can check steve meade's run on these amps and see that they actually hold pretty true to their "rated" power which is 14.4v, not what you are displaying here.

  • @louie2tone797
    @louie2tone797 7 років тому +6

    I can attest to voltage drop, my Toyota has a volt gauge in the dash. When the bass hits the needle drops, at night with the headlights on they dim and the needle looks like it has Parkinson's. Even with the addition of a 2 farad capacitor, while that did help when I crank it up I still have the same issues.

    Incredibly misleading. Test it with a 14.4 volt power supply capable of running such an amp for the duration of the test. I mean we all get it that in a 1987 Cavalier with no electrical upgrades, this amp might not make rated power. I don't even like Hifonics but know they do make rated power in a proper test.

    I think you need the SMD amp dyno, this amp was rated to be CEA 2006 complaint for true rms power rating. Also you didn't show the final voltage for the power. If you compare to Steve Meades amp Tuesday reviews.

    • @TheAmpLab
      @TheAmpLab  7 років тому

      This uses the same loads as the amp dyno and the AMM-1 is the same method the amp dyno used to measure. This is just as accurate as the AD-1. Also, I do show the voltage after each run. It's recorded on the LCD screen on the dummy load during each run.

    • @Dalgobitches
      @Dalgobitches 7 років тому

      The Amp Lab ok, it might show the voltage and amps after each run.... BUT the voltage is super low! Basically if a 1950s VW BUG was running the amp. I honestly don't know how you don't see that all of the NEW amps are rated @ 14.4volts. However any amp that was made before 2006, (actually before '99 tbh), was usually measured at 12.8 volts with a 1kz test tone. I mean no disrespect, but you are giving false readings! Please do some research before saying things that YOU know NOTHING about... GOOD DAY SIR!
      Ohh also, you don't have enough power(voltage or amperage) to ACTUALLY give fair readings on many of these amps! I find the fact that you think you can measure the capacities of many of these prized electrical amplifiers is actually a sham!!!! Next time you make a video stating the performance of any amplifier, you either do your research ch and included it in the video, or you will be shut down for LIES! The main reason I have concluded that your videos are strong with BS, is because of the fact that you don't have the equipment to accurately measure these products.
      So -- from here on forthcoming, you are served with a cease and desist! Your actions are false and you have no ability to provide these products with proper operating tendencies. We wish to stop such arguments before a review of the proposed media is given false observation. We have dedicated many years to the research and development of such products, and feel that such a video gives false information about our products. Your reading at 12.8 volts is far below current standards for new readings that are required for a CES 2006 requirement of 14.4 volts.

      Dalgobitches Wow. quite the response.
      A: The voltage in your vehicle is never going to stay at exactly 14.4v. You are going to drop voltage. Do this is actually more ij line with the power you would actually see.
      B: For quite some time now I have had 10 XS Power D1400 14V batteries to test with. Yes, TEN! The amp still did not make rated power. If it can't make rated power (when many other amps have on my bench) on 10 14V batteries (that rest around 14.7V), then there is no way it is making rated power in your, or anyone elses vehicle.
      So thank you for your concern. And the cease and desist nonsense was a good laugh as well so thank you for that.

      The Amp Lab I have no association with Crunch USA or Hifonics, and actually YES, 14.4 volts and higher can be held if a person knows what they're doing! I have a sponsor from a different company, but this was the latest video I have seen. And the cease and desist is real and you will be getting the formal letter soon.
      If what you want to do is give accurate measurements of some of these amplifiers then you need to state the fact the you are not able to give the correct readings. I will not go as far as to tell you my sponsor, only that they have surpassed your so called "benchmark", but however do not agree with your methods. If you continue to state that you are giving accurate readings with your current set-up, you will be contacted by some of these manufacturers who will be asking that you put a disclaimer in you videos that you don't have the actually ability, nor the preface to shell out false information if you cannot give the specified info of certain amplifiers according to your test bench of 10,(YES 10! XS 1400 14.4v batteries!)
      This is in my own personal opinion now..... I don't know if you are stupid or just don't know a damn thing about how to properly set-up a serious car audio power distribution interface, but batteries are only a single part of what's supposed to go on. In a serous set-up, there will be voltage regulators AND additional power supplies to basically keep every single last millivolt and milliamperes present! I can only guess that because of the fact that you don't know this, you are at the very most possibly 18 and you don't understand A GOD DAMN THING ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!
      So, once again... Good Day Sir!

      Your right kicker KX does a little over rated. Now some of the lower priced models may not do 100% of there rated power but that's to be expected from any company that offers several series of amps from economy to their top of the line models.
