Is it just me or does it seem the ants wont have enough room to grow due to the limited space avail to nest in. It looks great but it may be the scale that is tricking my eye but the rocks dont look that big and seem they have more room in the setup they are in now than what they will have in the new setup
You NEED to add dragonflies (or damselflies)! They live above water and eat small insects, and occasionally will be preyed on by the ants. They would be like those dragon things in avatar (forgot what they're called) and would look amazing in there.
i voted for the ember islands because it will remind us of the queen every time we say its name. After everything that the queen has been through, she deserves it. (:
Glow-in-the-dark mushrooms could be a neat addition to this setup, and would help a bit with decomposition. They're a neat (and safe) addition to vivs for frogs and smaller reptiles. Kits are readily available for introducing them.
@@zwei670 I suppose, yes, but generally these mushrooms require a decaying piece of wood of sorts to grow on. Usually included in a kit. So - you have to be trying to get them in the enclosure, for the most part. But even then, they're just mushrooms.
maybe put some hidden glowing plants behind the rocks in the water. the glow from behind in the dark would be amazing! during the day you wouldn’t even see the plants so it wouldn’t break the scale...!
I think using different glow in the dark sands attached to the rocks with a paintbrush and some black silicone would work, and maybe some glowing pebbles in the water. Also, you could put decorative plants used specifically for dioramas and paint them with glowing paints to create the glowing plant aesthetic. It could still work Edit: he is adding the ants tonight so it looks like we’ve lost the chance to change his mind. Unfortunate.
There are some PHOTOLUMINESCENT PIGMENTs out there, it might be possible to mix those with some transparent coding and paint some parts of the setup to make these areas to glow in dark.
maybe you can add the glowing material only in the water... so when its dark the water is glowing c: but at the day you didnt see that so much because of other real plants. hope you will read it ^^
I think some small floating vegetation and aquatic, small, plants would give some contrast and interest to the lower regions of the habitat. But I am impressed with the build and the ants will look like giants with the small scale plant.
hey ! I have a idea for your "glowing" problem, you could add glow in the dark food colorant to the water, there is translucent food coloring if you want to keep the water a normal look during the day, it might be a little hard to find just the right one but it shouldn't hurt the ants (at least from what I know, I'm not a professional.) and when passing trough plant a majority of them will have a slight glow.
AntsCanada 2020: I built a new AVATAR FLOATING MOUNTAINS for my ants AntsCanada 3020: I found this planet and hope for it to be the new home of our ants
I don't know if this is possible but could look great a few small plants between the moss here and there. Mostly cause of the effect of glowing in the fog.
Have you considered using a “moon” light for the evenings that would give a blue light look to stuff and make certain materials light up while maintaining the natural daytime look still. If nothing else it would make the water look crazy at night, a lot of salt water tanks do it 😁
And so the mighty AntsCanada said to the palidarium “let there be light!” And there was backlight. “Let there be water” and there was rainfall, water and a waterfall. “Let there be mountains” and there were floating mountains. “Let there be plants” and there was moss. Then AntsCanada looked at over all he had created and he saw it was good so on the seventh day he rested. Truly stellar job on the build. You are the Ant God

@antscanada. There might be a problem with the new setup. There’s not as much dirt as the old setup had , so the set up might get outgrown by the ants more quickly.

AC: they’ll live in the floating mountains! The ants: hey uhhh, we found this spot where the foam wasn’t completely sealed so I think we are gonna live there, thanks tho.
AC question of the week: The plants must have have small leaves so as to not to destroy (the ratio)of the majestic looking floating mountains. Small plants make mountains BIG. BIG plants make mountains small...
Destroy the size of? That's not quite how it should be phrased. They won't destroy the size. They'll just throw off the ratios and the plants will look out of place because the leaves will be the same size as some of the smaller rocks. The scaling gets thrown off but the size of the mountains is not destroyed. They're still the same size.
@@gabiya6567 no its named in reference to the movie Avatar. The one where humans go to the moon pandora that has floating mountains, hence the floating mountain paladarium.
@@gabiya6567 also there was no Phoenix empire in avatar the last airbender, fire lord Ozai just started calling himself Phoenix king Ozai. This colony was named the Phoenix Empire in remembrance of the fire nation that died because pheonixes are reborn from their ashes.
As for this AC Question of the Week: "Why are little plants with small leaves preferable for this Paludarium?" My answer is: =They spread quickly and they grow without soil onto rocks and decors. They're also great for the diorama because it's all rock place
That's just a feature of the plants he decided to use. Not all small plants with small leaves grow this way. So that's not the answer to the question. He told you why he needed small leaves in they video. And it had nothing to do with them growing without dirt.
@@Connor-jl9gq not "and because" because the OP didn't state the reason why small plants were used. He could've used small plants that grow in dirt. He gave a definitive reason why small plants were used in the video and it had nothing to do with how they grow without dirt. That's just a feature of the plants he used not a feature of all small plants that he could've possibly used.
You can still paint the tips of the roots that hold the stones up with the glowing colors ! Maybe even parts of the rocks to make it look like glowing moss?
I wonder if you could 3D print some of these "floating rocks" and other hardscapes. Doing so could probably provide a sturdy custom built structure to the design you wanted, and also made so there are cavities and channels inside the rock for the ants to expand into. Assuming you had a 3D printing material that could not be broken down by the ants.
Question of the week: the smaller leaves makes the floating mountains look bigger, adding to the feel of the diorama being huge mountains floating in the air. It’s all about scale!!!
You could maybe add some of those glow in the dark plants in the back/caves underwater, that way you still have some glow in the dark plants but they arent too obvious :)
Looks amazing, my one concern is if there is actually enough digging medium for them? The floating rocks look small. Could be I just can't tell the scale due to the camera.
I wish you'd put more plants in there. Even if it made the "mountains" look smaller, it would just make everything look that much more alive and exotic. Also, you could hide the glow-in-the-dark plants in the water and the caves within the water. Or maybe grab some non-toxic glow in the dark paint, thin it out and sprinkle a little bit on the rocks.
Well if you paid any attention to what he said about the plants you'd know why he started off with small plants and not leave this stupid comment. Try watching the video again and this time actually pay attention instead of letting what he says go in one of your ears, bounce around your empty skull, then go out the other ear.
at 12:47, look at the glass panel at the top of the terrarium closest to the camera shot. it looks like some sort of insect the size of an ant on the OUTSIDE of the terrarium.
The smaller plants are more preferable because with the big plants in the terrarium you lose a sense of scale. It makes the floating islands appear tiny instead of huge.
@@morpher728 so basically he answered the question that was asked in the video. Try paying attention to what you watch before making yourself look stupid leaving comments like this.
@AntsCanada if i could make a suggestion, how about getting some miniatures of plants and mushrooms and things like that and adding some glowing paint to specific areas of them. that way they look both good in normal lighting and under black light. not sure if you have already thought of this so i just thought to throw it out there.
A small bonsai tree growing on one of the islands with its roots wrapped around it would look cool. Kind of like a little tree of life or the end of castle in the sky.
I feel like we can still incorporate the glow in the dark theme. I saw that you had glow paint, may be you can paint some parts of the rock to make it look like the ground in the movie.
What i would do for the glow effect at night is take the glow in the dark plants and cut little pieces off and mix it in with the moss and i would add a small bonsai tree or too and love the paledareum
Is it just me, or if the place gets called "The Ember Islands" we're going to stumble across an old holiday home for the queen of the original fire ant colony
After watching this video, I have an idea for the glow in the dark here’s the idea: Put those glow in the dark beneath the underwater caves that will make it look more cool and hidden. The lights will be cool. You can try this. If this did not work I will be very sorry.
The glow plants, and some UV led's would have been pretty awesome in this set up. The UV should cause them to light up under moderate light so you still get the effect but don't need complete darkness.

You should try making the fire nation from Avatar: The Last Airbender maybe The Gates Of Azulon I think it would be fitting for them
I think he already had one called the Fire Nation.
@@marah7275 that's the one that died and the reason he created this new one.
astrolover 95 yeah and this new one is also named in reference to avatar the last airbender
As for this AC Question of the Week:
"Why are little plants with small leaves preferable for this Paludarium?"
My answer is:
=They spread quickly and they grow without soil onto rocks and decors.
They're also great for the diorama because it's all rock place
And because it looks really weird if you have a massive leaf on a small island when the intention is to pretend the small island is big
Your answer is wrong.
Scale
You can still paint the tips of the roots that hold the stones up with the glowing colors ! Maybe even parts of the rocks to make it look like glowing moss?
I wonder if you could 3D print some of these "floating rocks" and other hardscapes. Doing so could probably provide a sturdy custom built structure to the design you wanted, and also made so there are cavities and channels inside the rock for the ants to expand into. Assuming you had a 3D printing material that could not be broken down by the ants.
No but what if the ants start trying to dig through them
Yeah that’s be cool but the ants would probably try and dig through them
i think you should add soil to the right side where the waste tub is and make a quarter of the tank soil it doesn't look like enough land in there.
Question of the week: the smaller leaves makes the floating mountains look bigger, adding to the feel of the diorama being huge mountains floating in the air. It’s all about scale!!!
You could try putting some leds or something behind individual plants in the water to get the glow in the dark effect still

Lol
You could maybe add some of those glow in the dark plants in the back/caves underwater, that way you still have some glow in the dark plants but they arent too obvious :)
If the rocks are hollow without drainage holes, won't the rain going off fill up their nests with water?
Maybe the rocks are porous
Sarah Anderson wouldn’t that end up making them...heavy?
there’s also no way that that will be enough for the ants... like it’s a huge colony and a few little holes won’t do much...
Plant with the tiny leaves is called Artillery Fern. Good with bonsai trees.
There'll grow bigger eventually.
at 12:47, look at the glass panel at the top of the terrarium closest to the camera shot. it looks like some sort of insect the size of an ant on the OUTSIDE of the terrarium.
yeah, ants canada needs to see that. not 100% if it is an ant but looks like one. plus he has had problems like that before.
definitely looks like one
The plant is called Pilea microphylla (artillery plant) they grow like crazy and be hard to get away if you dont want them. They love lavarock.
Never had a doubt, I knew when you attempted to make these floating islands that you were going to impress us all. Much love AC!!!
The smaller plants are more preferable because with the big plants in the terrarium you lose a sense of scale. It makes the floating islands appear tiny instead of huge.
So basically you repeated what he said
@@morpher728 so basically he answered the question that was asked in the video. Try paying attention to what you watch before making yourself look stupid leaving comments like this.
@@morpher728 That's what your meant to do. The answer is said earlier in the video. Keep up.
Make glow in the dark caves

What i would do for the glow effect at night is take the glow in the dark plants and cut little pieces off and mix it in with the moss and i would add a small bonsai tree or too and love the paledareum
Is it just me, or if the place gets called "The Ember Islands" we're going to stumble across an old holiday home for the queen of the original fire ant colony

After watching this video, I have an idea for the glow in the dark here’s the idea:
Put those glow in the dark beneath the underwater caves that will make it look more cool and hidden.
The lights will be cool. You can try this.
If this did not work I will be very sorry.
I hope it works so he won’t waste those glow toys
Imagine bonsai trees in this paladarium
The glow plants, and some UV led's would have been pretty awesome in this set up. The UV should cause them to light up under moderate light so you still get the effect but don't need complete darkness.
Wow! I'd never expect to see such a cool looking paludarium. Looks awsome and I can't wait to see the creatures that will live in it.
"if you are new to this channel or dont know" i mean, since january, 99% of your video are about fire ants, it's hard to miss
