Some suggestions for additional water beasts. Malaysian Trumpet Snails which burrow and stir the sands keeping them clean, prevent it from compacting and becoming anaerobic. Now as they breed fast and produce lots of offspring they can take over the tank. To help keep this at bay I would also suggest a few Assassin Snails. Splendens are the most aggressive breed of betta. There are wild bettas that would be able to be kept in a group but absolutely not splendens like in the video the risk is far too great. I've kept a dwarf crayfish with a betta and the crayfish destroyed the bettas fins. Crayfish are slightly territorial and bettas definitely are so I would say the risk is too great. They will come into contact too often and the betta will get injured.
What's your opinion on the Amano shrimps being kept in the tank? I feel like a majority of the time the betta is probably gonna eat most of its offsprings (if they ever have one) or the shrimps itself and bite some legs off. What's your take on it?
Merfolk As someone who takes care of shrimp (I’ve got a tank of snails and blue cherry shrimp!) Shrimp generally can get along with bettas (it’s a fairly popular tank setup), but it depends on the personality of the betta whether or not it tries to eat the shrimp (though it’s unlikely, considering the size of amano shrimp is too big for bettas to eat, unlike cherry shrimp). And shrimp are scavengers, so they won’t attack the fish.
I'd be careful adding a crayfish into the tank with a betta. They crayfish might prey on the betta or tear at his fins. When thinking of compatible fish with a betta, it's typically good to not have fin-nippers or big colorful fish, as it could stress out the betta. Since you have a large tank, he could just occupy one end and not travel around, but betta's typically prefer their own space. I'd recommend sticking to just cleaning crew fish like corys, shrimp, snails, and otos, while having the betta be the main water beast.
I'd actually be more concerned with the beta attacking the crayfish. Dwarf crayfish are known to be super peaceful and can live with more than one and even with dwarf shrimp which is completely the opposite from regular sized crayfish. The should definitely be enough room in the water portion for minimal interaction and if there's enough caves/hiding there shouldn't be many problems.
The irony that the mountains are inspired from the blue people Avatar film, but the name of them "Ember Islands" is the name of an island from Avatar the Last Airbender. Best of both worlds
Loving the new acqatic freinds! But a few things, Don't get female betas, they tend to be pretty teritorial, and they'll fight the male, possibly killing it. Second of all, Crayfish are fin nippers, they'll tear the fins of your fish, mostly the beta, so I would have to advice you to not get a crayfish... Also, another fish suggestion would be danio's, Zebra or Neon preferably, but there are other types so it's your choice really, but danio's, are really good to have in most tanks, they'll help with any algae build up you might have, and if for some reason the water in your tank gets infected with ich, they eat it off most fish(Or at least mine did when we had ich, helped keep it under control anyways). As well as just being a pretty fish
I really love the name Toruk for the betta. For anyone that doesn't know, Toruk means "last shadow" and seeing the silhouette of the betta back by the dark caves, I just feel the name fits perfectly.
Not really, I put crayfishs with guppies and my guppies is thriving. Crayfishs need hiding places though if you want to have more than one, I put pvc pipes and they can live together. They do fight eachother sometimes and usually have a leader in an area. They kinda like to be outside of water area sometimes so they will try to climb up. However I dunno if they will rip shrimps though... I feel since he already has shrimps so he doesn't really need crayfish.
@@aimannazmi7198 I understand that he could potentially put them in there with no damage, but I don't think its worth the risk when he has so many options at his disposal
Love the settup AC, but I recommend AGAINST the dwarf crayfish, they will gladly snack on the smaller Neocaradina shrimp and with rip at the betta's fins!
I think using different glow in the dark sands attached to the rocks with a paintbrush and some black silicone would work, and maybe some glowing pebbles in the water. Also, you could put decorative plants used specifically for dioramas and paint them with glowing paints to create the glowing plant aesthetic. It could still work
I was gonna say the same. Maybe in like thin lines to look like veins of quartzite during the day time. Rocks naturally have quartzite veins in them near watery places. Just a thought.
As someone with a fisheries background and a aquaria enthusiast, I *love* that you reuse established materials to create a healthy aquatic ecosystem ❣️
I once had a old couple of Betta's and the last female was getting slower, she coudnt swim up and down so much anymore. So the male Betta kept her fed and even carried her upon a leaf to lie on. He was keeping that leaf just below the waterline so she could get air if needed. He kept pushing that leaf up for over 2 weeks and then she died. He was heartbroken and stopped eating, he gave up and died soon after. They were awesome animals, I love fish 😍
What else you should add kinda depends on how much water you have in there. It’s hard to guess how many gallons it is from a video after all. I’m guessing that’s an 60-80 gallon tank? Maybe a 100? Bigger? And it’s about a fifth full? If it’s one of the larger sizes I’d suggest raising the water level. In fact I suggest that in general as it seems kinda shallow. But if it’s a larger one, a few dwarf gourami’s could be a colorful larger tank mate to live with the Beta. A Kuhli loach or two could be nice too if there’s enough water. I’m all for making an epic underwater kingdom but only if you have enough gallons for the fish to be comfortable. Easier tank mates for the beta are Cory catfish and various small tetras. I’d suggest African dwarf frogs as well but they have to come to the surface to breathe. The fire ants might hurt or kill them when that happens. I’ve never had the African dwarf frogs personally either so I don’t know how long they come up for air.
Dwarf gourami and betta fish are both highly aggresive towards one another. putting them both together would end up just like putting two bettas together.
For the frogs, would it make sense to put a rock or 2 sticking up from the bottom of the pool so they can rest there instead of on the ant shelf, as they would presumably be safe from the ants there? I've never kept any pets but I'm curious if that would help
The African dwarf frogs come up quite regularly for air, like once a minute. So that might be dangerous with the ants but they don’t stay at the top of the water. They just dash up and quickly grab a breath for less than a second
This isn't necessarily their fault. While they can detect water when it is very dirty, ant poop is very fine and dissolves easily. The ants wouldn't notice until it was too late
I haven't watched you for about 2 years now, and pretty sad to hear that the Fire Nation had died, but the Phoenix Empire has pretty much been just another Fire Nation. Loved this idea of the Avatar-themed paludarium! Looks amazing and can't wait to see more videos of the Phoenix Empire and their new forever home!
These are kinda hard to find in the Philippines bit you may wanna add a couple of kuhli loaches. They might eat dead ants since they're scavengers. Also, they are active during the night, they will take care of business when the other fishes are resting, since fire ants are active night and day
Name suggestions: For the shrimp since they're a troop and they'll become reddish brown they should be called the Sizzle Soldiers (Zoe_LovezCatz 4 suggested the Sizzle part). For the chili rasboras since they're red they should be called the Little Peppers. And for the betta Toruk cause of Toruk from Avatar.
When he said “alright ac family the moment y’all have been waiting for” I had already forgot about the ants at this point. I need more relaxing footage of the aquatic ecosystem
I dunno about the beasts as a whole but you should name the betta The Fire Lord, you should also give him a leaf shelf (fake or real plant is fine but it should be a big enough leaf that his whole body can sit on it) bettas really appriciate to rest on those to take a break from swimming around with their large fins. It's fine if it's hidden in the back or behind some off the rocks and plants but I think you might appriciate seeing your betta resting on a personal throne.
hey, you could seed lichen on the rock features pretty easily! harvest some local lichen from around your apartment and chop it up, then boil a pint of milk, and 1/2tsp each of flour, dry yeast, and spirulina algae (for food for the lichen) and let that mixture cool to room temp. then shake the lichen into that mixture with a very small amount of fertilized soil and paint it onto the rock surfaces. the milk reacts with the calcium in the rocks to form a sort of glue to keep the lichen spores on the surface. you should start to see the rocks darken and bloom within about a month. i’d do it before the ants move in if that sounds interesting to you! i’ve done it on rocks all around my garden areas and they’re so beautiful and colorful now!
and also like.... it’s lichen. it’s low, colorful plant cover in small segmented units that would brighten up your space and without messing with the visual scale of your terrarium.
It took me a while to realise that this guys is talking about “avatar” not “the last avatar” Mostly because the fire nation was the name of the previous fire ants
Thank you thank you thank you!! You all voted my suggestion, Ember Islands! Thank you all so much!! I love you all, and I’m so glad I was part of making history in the AC Family Universe! Thank you so much!
Not sure if anyone said that yet, but crayfish is not the best idea to house together with Betta as it may damage it's fins that could lead to infection and even death of the fish... It's not given but as Betta fish lover I wouldn't pair them together.
Hi Mikey, glad to see you finally got a betta (I love bettas, and have two lovely male bettas myself - each in their own separate 5.5g tanks). You need to make sure the water current in the tank is as low-flow as possible because bettas (especially those with lovely large flowing fins & tail like your new betta) do NOT enjoy swimming against a strong current - it can stress them out and they can even die of exhaustion from swimming against a strong current for too long. I'm not sure it's a good idea to add crayfish into the mix with the other small fish and especially with the betta. Crayfish can injure and even kill small fish or damage fragile betta fins with their claws. Please DO NOT do a betta sorority (at least NOT with betta splendens - splendens were line-bred for aggression before being bred for colors and tail types so a lot of them still have this extra aggression). Betta sorority is best done with wild-betta types like imbellis or mahachai, instead of splendens. It's also best done with at least 40+ gallons (in total water volume) heavily planted tank - which I'm not sure your paludarium has. www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/wiki/sorority . Regardless, there have been examples in bettafish reddit, where even a redditor with an appropriate 40g heavily planted tank experienced a failed sorority as betta splendens are extra aggressive, including the females. www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/comments/bt3xml/sorority_failed/ Also male and female betta splendens SHOULD NEVER be mixed, unless you are fully intending to breed them (this in and of itself is a HUGE project which will require several series of live foods for the various fry growth stages as well as several 10g holding tanks for the fry as they grow, and even several half-gallon or gallon jars [or 3-5g tanks if you want to be even more humane] for the young males to be separated before they kill each other or their other siblings) - and if so, the female betta(s) will need to be removed from the breeding tank once the eggs are in the bubble nests as the male will become extremely aggressive to protect his eggs/fry. The betta fry will also take several months of intensive care before they can be safely sold or given away. Please DO NOT just breed bettas willynilly, nor keep a male betta with a bunch of female bettas willynilly. www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/wiki/breeding
@@AntsCanada hello AC! I love ur videos and its letting me be brave from other insects that i was scared still kinda scared but i can see how they are beautiful :)
Okay, @14:49 was a PERFECT shot. The lights turn off, and the beta shows their side profile for a stunning silhouette, center stage, then disappearing into the shadows. Very majestic. Well done.
I would watch out for the crayfish, I’ve had one massacre everything else in a tank before, and even the dwarfs devour anything they can fit in their mouths
I’m not expert on this but I wouldn’t put a crayfish in with the shrimp and the beta. The beta wants to be dominant and so will the crayfish. Crayfish are fairly aggressive.
Nooooo Mikey! That betta is going to go to town on those chilis and amanos as soon as his mouth is big enough! I mean, if the amanos are big enough, they may have a shot, but chilis are so dinky that they are definitely on the menu in about 3 or 4 months. He's a really pretty boy, but maybe move him to a different setup (or at least keep a really close eye on your rasbora population). I know you are a responsible keeper, and there are a lot of hiding places in there, but I've made the mistake of keeping an adult betta with nano fish. I mean, occasionally you get a really chill betta, and it manages to work (I had a massive female who was fine with my ember tetras and only attacked snails for whatever reason), but I lost a half dozen galaxy rasboras once too. Just, um, proceed with extreme caution. Warnings aside, you have the coolest looking paludarium ever. The habitats you build are truly spectacular.

It takes time, temember when he had to acustom the fish to the waters? That could have taken him the whole week! Now imagine the ants tryna find the right time to move.
These beasts are so beautiful to be called beasts. Here's my name ideass: Betta: Ember fin/Cinder fin Shrimps: Ash pinchers Rasbora fish: flame sprites
I like the other two a lot but i think the betta should be named cinderheart. Plus Cinderheart is the name of a warriors character so it would be kinda ironic.
IMPORTANT THING!!! LET KNOW AC!!! Is the rain able flood the floating islands? I mean, If the wather can get in (from rain), does it have any way out, or will wather fill islands lika a tea-cups?
Love the video, and as a fish fan I'm always happy to see more aquatics on this channel! Just a few suggestions, bettas are territorial insectavores. The Amano shrimp should be fine because of their size, but the small cleaner shrimp would actually be put in danger. There's also a problem with the female betta idea: male bettas and female betta will attack and kill each other unless very special precautions are taken, and even then that will only last for maybe 2 or 3 days while they breed. Hope this info helps.
I guess I have a good idea... Basically we can make like a community of guardians of the water(the viewers can give them the name) where the water is divided into 3 parts (the shallow waters, the mid waters and the deep water (which basically the water bed). We can assign the rasbora fishes to guard the shallow waters, the fighter fish the mid water(just wanted to say that don't put two male fighter fish as they may fight each other to death) and the shrimps the deep waters. Also wanted to say that u can add neon tetras fish for the night glow that was there in Avatar as u can't add the neon light products... Well that's what I have in mind.
Also in the female beta they will fight each other because beta needs a personal territory so just thinking he might kill the female because they don't breed that easy they have to be done step by step you can just search it in the you tube. Haha I'm giving to many comments but pls see it, it's dangerous for them both to be together. I just have to many things I know about beta just sharing it 🙂. Stay safe 💗
Even though fish-keepers may suggest adding three female bettas to a tank with a male to thwart aggression, my personal experience would advise against this. I had a large aquarium 55 Gal with a male and 3 females. All three females ganged up on and killed the male betta. You're really only supposed to add females when its breeding time, and once you do get eggs you have to separate them otherwise they will be eaten by the bettas. Whatever you add to the tank watch for fin nippers they will go after the betta..
In the wild, bettas live in small ponds and puddles most of the year, until they breed when the rainy season floods large areas. I've kept and bred bettas a few times, and I would only recommend keeping a male together with two or three females in LARGE tank, with LOTS of places the losers of any fights can hide, and at least several dozen other small fish to distract the aggressor. My attempts at keeping them together in a 215 liter (55 gallon) tank failed twice, but one pair of females and a male got along for a year in a 500l (125g) with a lot of vegetation and caves. Please don't try keeping them together in anything smaller than 400 l (100g). Bettas can also be a little aggressive to smaller fish, and might eat those that will fit in their mouth, if they can catch them.
Been watching this channel for a few years now. I think you were still in Canada when I started watching. Anyway. I showed my daughter this channel (she just turned 8) and she loves it! Im very glad you make this family-friendly. Its nice because she learns stuff and gets to watch very interesting and awesome videos. Only problem is she now wants pet ants. I cant have that because my gf hates ants and I work out of town for 9 days then come back for 4-5. If I was here daily I could probably convince my gf that id do all the work and she doesnt have to even look at them. Thats not possible with my schedule. I think I might end up buying her a scorpion or something. Last year I found a huge toad and kept it from fall to spring and fed it mealworms and she loved it. I let it go during the start of summer though.
That betta is gonna kill most of the Amano shrimp if not their offspring. Any and all future dwarf shrimps would also die to it. There's only a small chance that he'd be fine with not eating them but he'd definitely peck at them and still probably cause stress to the shrimp as well as some few missing legs.
While lots of people experience this, it's not true for all bettas. Mine doesn't hurt shrimp at all, except for a tiny shrimplet as a snack here and there. He should wait and see how the betta interacts with the Amanos before adding more though. I think he was joking about adding a crayfish and a betta sorority, but maybe I'm too optimistic. Either way, after reading these comments I hope he'll think twice about throwing all those creatures together in a tank. Also, are the Australian Amanos vastly different from the more popular Japanese ones? Because you'll never find shrimplets of the Japanese amanos in a tank - the larvae needs to be raised in brackish/salt water.
I found agresive armano shrimps do well with betta fish because they can fend off the angry betta. but your right: any other shrimp Iv had no luck with because they all fell to the hungry betta
How about add golden clawed-crabs? Yes, I have just said crab, not crayfish. The golden clawed crabs aren’t that big, and they can eat the leftovers and waste of the fish. The crabs can also live with the amano shrimp, because the shrimp are too fast. Since there are many hiding spaces, the crabs won’t get caught by the betta. A simple “ circle of life” if you ask me.
I'd say add some of those crabs that the original tank had. They looked cute, and helped quite a bit. I'd also recommend raising the water level a tad bit, as it looks slightly shallow. Also: don't add more than one Betta fish. They'd tear eachother apart.
I can’t tell if the “should we add a sorority of betta females” thing was a joke lol, but if it wasn’t I really wouldn’t recommend it considering how stressful sororities are for the fish.
The fighter fish! I love their beautiful and engaging colours that shimmer each time they move. I used to have one and they are such interesting fish. They always seem to have something to do. 😂
I set up aquariums when i worked for an exoctic pet store and our Betas ate flakes . they loved fresh blood worms or the blood worm cubes. The pellets werent popular for some reason. But flakes wont hurt or kill them..you also dont need to keep them in tiny containers
@@shrekidkwhattoname3848 my comment WAS related as it is about feeding Betas. There is no reason to be rude to a complete stranger . there was no reason for that at all
The snails are always a great idea! They are the best at keeping the tank clean. As others mentioned, I wouldnt put the crayfish in, it might be problematic..

I really love the name Toruk for the betta. For anyone that doesn't know, Toruk means "last shadow" and seeing the silhouette of the betta back by the dark caves, I just feel the name fits perfectly.
Cool!
I vote 100% NO to crayfish of any kind because they're really territorial and will kill the other fish and rip at the betta's fins!!
Oh my! I the poor Betta!!!!
dwarf crayfish are not as territorial or aggressive as other species and can even be housed in groups
Bohemian Harpsicord no. Just no.

It could still work
Zakary McLeod yeah!
I was gonna say the same. Maybe in like thin lines to look like veins of quartzite during the day time. Rocks naturally have quartzite veins in them near watery places. Just a thought.
Just remember to use ant-safe paint
There wouldn't be any paint, just sand and silicone which are both ant and aquarium safe.

They both came to good ends..

Interesting! Thanks for the suggestions! I was also thinking corys but I think the pH may be unfavourable. I'll see!
Betta’s also come up for air, they come from rice pads in Thailand (so shallow, warm water). Love the idea of the dwarf frogs!
The African dwarf frogs come up quite regularly for air, like once a minute. So that might be dangerous with the ants but they don’t stay at the top of the water. They just dash up and quickly grab a breath for less than a second
ants: "Let's poop in this water""
also the ants: "Let's drink from it!"

This isn't necessarily their fault. While they can detect water when it is very dirty, ant poop is very fine and dissolves easily.

Ye!
Technically the Beta would be the Phoenix King. But yeah!
Is that a avatar reference😃
@Random Nonsense Yes
hey, you could seed lichen on the rock features pretty easily! harvest some local lichen from around your apartment and chop it up, then boil a pint of milk, and 1/2tsp each of flour, dry yeast, and spirulina algae (for food for the lichen) and let that mixture cool to room temp. then shake the lichen into that mixture with a very small amount of fertilized soil and paint it onto the rock surfaces. the milk reacts with the calcium in the rocks to form a sort of glue to keep the lichen spores on the surface. you should start to see the rocks darken and bloom within about a month. i’d do it before the ants move in if that sounds interesting to you! i’ve done it on rocks all around my garden areas and they’re so beautiful and colorful now!
oh and harvest at least 1/2tsp of lichen btw, not very much. i’m not sure how well it’d work in a terrarium setup but like, no harm no foul you know?

Regardless, there have been examples in bettafish reddit, where even a redditor with an appropriate 40g heavily planted tank experienced a failed sorority as betta splendens are extra aggressive, including the females. www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/comments/bt3xml/sorority_failed/
Also male and female betta splendens SHOULD NEVER be mixed, unless you are fully intending to breed them (this in and of itself is a HUGE project which will require several series of live foods for the various fry growth stages as well as several 10g holding tanks for the fry as they grow, and even several half-gallon or gallon jars [or 3-5g tanks if you want to be even more humane] for the young males to be separated before they kill each other or their other siblings) - and if so, the female betta(s) will need to be removed from the breeding tank once the eggs are in the bubble nests as the male will become extremely aggressive to protect his eggs/fry. The betta fry will also take several months of intensive care before they can be safely sold or given away. Please DO NOT just breed bettas willynilly, nor keep a male betta with a bunch of female bettas willynilly. www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/wiki/breeding
Thank you for this post!

Be carful with the beta because beta’s like calmer water and don’t like rough water
I hope pharaoh ants don’t exploit the bubble nest the betta will inevitably build
Exactly what I was going to post about. Additionally I would NOT recommend adding female beta's to the tank.
The crawfish is gonna kill them fish they always do
@@FreemanicParacusia Well the ants will first need to go past the fire ants that might be a bit problematic.
Jared Sabatelli male bettas don’t eat their own children if that’s what you mean, they actually take care of them
AC question answer: the small fish bc they look really cool as a group
I dont put female betta with male especially it its not conditioned into a breeding,i dont put more than 1 even how big is the tank
@Innaa Dynamitee They can only be put together when breeding or they will murder each other
In the wild, bettas live in small ponds and puddles most of the year, until they breed when the rainy season floods large areas.
@Innaa Dynamitee even you introduced them we dont know if they are compatible even you condition
11:55 beautiful shot
I've had 3 male bettas... all have been good with shrimp and the shrimp even had offspring
It really depends on the fish
