Having gotten to see your channel grow up to this point from the last 5-6 years has been incredible, I am 26 years older than my youngest brother and we love to share in your excitement for nature and ANTS. Your channel has brought us closer and given us new ways to connect. Stoked to see how this project grows with time.
For the water: Freshwater shrimp. Something from the Neocaridina genus, esp. Cherry Reds. Those are fairly hardy and breed readily. you can partner them with aquatic snails and maybe some kind of catfish like an otocinclas or corydora.
The parameters of the water should be tested before picking any species. Lot of organic matter in there so the pH might be pretty low and not match the shrimps’ needs.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the largest ant colony ever discovered was over 3,700 miles wide? That’s wider than the entire continental United States! Your vivarium is so unique and interesting. I love how you’re open to new ideas and engaging with your audience. Your passion for this project is contagious, and I’m excited to see what you come up with next!
Duce I'm obsessed with your channel, yourself and serial design were the inspiration behind my channel. My garden of Eden is my dream build as she's still going strong. When you do finally master the self sustaining ecosystem and it thrives without you there's no greater feeling since childbirth lol
I don’t watch this man for a couple years and this is what I stumble upon. Going from building home fish tank sized environments to literally having a functioning rainforest the size of my bedroom… God i love to see it
This and mark rober,Robert, love how I can leave you for long periods of time and then binge their content, its always interesting what new content comes out.
Im being so serious, you should have your own TV network you can run from your home like this with more resources for you bugs. This is the kind of content kids should watch to really learn about nature. You would absolutely be held in the same regards as shows like blues clues, wild kratz, the electric company, ect
But TV sucks so much! The hour long ad breaks everytime. Thankfully streaming and video hosting services are out competing this garbage with our generations and TV will become obsolete some day.
@adamtrimble2586 a live stream is going to show you absolutely nothing, these videos need to be heavily filmed and edited to actually show you what is going on.
I wouldn't put House Geckos with ants, because they're prey to the ants; its true ants can't catch geckos, but there's nowhere that gecko can hide that the ants can't reach. The ants can just bite the gecko continously and wear the health of the gecko down till it expires. :(
He's the scariest person on UA-cam. Straight up getting paid lots of $$$ to abuse animals for "entertainment" and people praise him call him God and he LOVES IT. Anyone who likes this guy needs serious help
I love the way you're able to give us a narrative from the ants behaviour. To think there's a hidden insect world all around us with stories like this playing out all the time is pretty mind blowing.
Oh my those iridescent roaches! I have a bit of roach phobia…a huge one got in my hair and came apart when I was a child. But those shiny ones could definitely crawl in my hand. What an extraordinary exhibit! It’s wonderful to see creatures behaving naturally in a closed environment.
So interesting, initially I thought that releasing that many things so fast would be too much. But seeing how fast everything got processed and re-used by the other parts of the ecosystem made me realize just how common predator/prey deaths were on a day by day basis.
Sad about the poor Gecko :( I think it very likely that she could have been overwhelmed by how many ants you have in there. Lots of repeated bites and venom could have easily taken her down if they caught her in her sleep or something. Doesn't seem like there would have been many spots safe from the ants in that enclosure.
I knew it was going to happen as soon as I saw the number of ants that were being added. They attack and do exactly what was said above. Poor thing. But I hope it doesn't happen again. I'm sure it was a hard lesson.
I agree, I feel bad for that poor baby. I want to like this video, but she was just mistreated by being left in there withan overwhelming amount of predators. I was sad to see her treated that way.@@PsyckoSama
That vivarium was essentially a torture chamber for that poor gecko. Outnumbered by thousands of ants in a space that's still a small enclosure when you consider that they occupy a range of probably a couple kilometers in the wild. Nature is brutal but when we manipulate it according to our human whims it becomes a bit uncanny and sadistic.
For the water, you want scuds. They're native to every corner of the world, and are relentless scavengers that will pick apart ANY source of protein they have access to. All your other options like fish or amano shrimp will be too large to produce new generations in that pond like you want for this ecosystem. They play nice with daphnia magna (filter feders), and freshwater isopods (substrate feeders).
As a greek mythology nerd, i also enjoyed that part of the video, made me feel happier that Ants canada Knew/mentioned her, Also Pandora is also actually from greek mythology, As pandoras Box, Or Pantdoras box, it depends on how u wanna spell it but, yeah
Wow… that’s so well produced. Just an abundance of great choices you made in telling this story and you told it so well. The music choices were first class. So was your camera angles and really great transitions to climatic moments. Which there were many, which made it so compelling, emotionally moving and meaningful. I’m totally hooked. Thanks you so much for all your efforts. Also thank you for sharing your experience, thoughts and learning with us. My life feels better, from watching your story, of the cycle of life.
No kidding but he handled the roaches fine. I will be dead. I hate roaches. I move the earth worms all the time I my pot garden. They like to hang under the pots and if I move the pot they panic as they hate heat light and sun and I just place them somewhere shady and moist to crawl in the ground. I even got used to pick slugs with bare hands and spiders but roach is bit too far for me for now.
Bruh i used to watch this channel back when it was tiny tanks of ants. Just found the channel again and WOW the progress shows. This is wild bro, amazing work and dedication.
@@AntsCanadaThe severe amount of ants is most likely what killed the gecko, all the bites it probably endured most likely eventually overhwlemed it and killed it.
For insectivorous aquatic "cleanup" crew I would suggest some species of diving beetle. They flock to the dead bodies and are quite active. I haven't done anything remotely close to this scale but some years ago, I did a shoreline ecosystem and the diving beetles were incredibly efficient.
I am honestly concerned that the number of ant colonies will cause an imbalance in the ecosystem by killing a lot of wildlife at a rate faster than they can replenish. The fire ants are one of the biggest concerning factors, but you didn’t show them this episode. Are they still around?
Fire ants weren't seen while shooting this episode. I'm still hoping there was no queen introduced (just workers) and they are dying out now. I know it may look like the ants are dominating and totally filling all areas of the tank due to the tight closeup shots, if you look carefully at the wider shots that show the true scale of the tank, you'll see that the ants are only minor players in the vivarium. It still lacks the ant biodiversity of a cloud rainforest. I remember being in Mt. Banahaw shooting the Blue Ant episode in awe at how many ants and nests were crammed into any given smallish space.
@@AntsCanada I would try to get the gecko out and don't add another one in, it's basically a torture chamber for the poor gecko and has no hopes to survive.
Its crazy how far this channel has come, I remember your videos being filmed in your small ant room and your announcement of building a entire house dedicated to your craft. Thanks for your hard work! Here's to another year of Ants Canada! It's ant love forever.🎉
You could add catfish like pterygoplichthys for the pond area which eats up the dead animals. Diving beetles might also do the trick .Consider adding more escape routes for the pond so that it's not a death trap anymore.Great work on the vivarium. Consider adding some scavenger lobsters or crabs.
That sounds like an incredible journey into creating a miniature ecosystem! Adding animals to a giant rainforest vivarium must bring such a dynamic and lively aspect to it. It's fascinating how each creature plays a role in maintaining the balance of this mini rainforest. The idea of replicating nature's complexity on a smaller scale is truly a remarkable endeavor. I can imagine the vivid colors and diverse behaviors of the animals adding so much vibrancy to the vivarium. It's a beautiful way to connect with nature and appreciate the intricacies of different habitats. Keep exploring and enjoying the wonders of the natural world! 🌿🐸🦋
You sir have deserved this subscription. Got last week's video pop up in my recommendation and I'm glad it did. The quality and effort in these videos make it one of the highest quality videos I've seen and your narration is just perfect both for the Pantdora but also for showing your personality So when I found out these are a weekly series, subscribing was a no brainer Kudos to you
Loving how you take Nitiri's words in such depth. All energy is only borrowed, and someday we have to give it back. Huge Avatar fan so love the name Pantdora for this vivarium.
I RARELY leave comments, but I couldn’t resist this time. You have created an amazing and beautiful ecosystem for your animals. It shows that you really care for them. Not like these people who have a hundred different snakes in empty plastic totes slid into drawers like a collection of socks; only to be pulled out when the latest morph is to be photographed then slid back into its empty plastic drawer. You have created something really special.
I'm sure they would of liked to end up like that gecko in an all natural ecosystem. Thing is, with certain animals, they don't really care as long as it's a dark tight hole that they feel safe in.
I don't know how I ended up here. But 4 episodes in and i am HOOKED! This is so exciting and interesting! All the drama in this little patch of nature. I love it!
EVERYTHING about your video’s stand out. The narration, the shots/cinematography, the music choices, the transitions, the editing and most of all the amazing setups you create. This was again a fantastic video!
This is a prime example of a channel that’s earned my subscription. I’ve previously watched videos of your ant colony habitats. Found it intriguing, captivating, and astonished by how well done your editing and storytelling was executed. How ever I watched all of three or so of the individual colonies plot lines and felt I got everything I could out of the content and If I subbed I’d only get stuff on my feeds popping up that I wouldn’t be as enticed to click on. I randomly saw a post of your new ‘tank’, thought how cinematically beautiful it looked and how I’d love to have that in my house (though terrified creatures would escape). And I was proven wrong, I’m subbed now and in for the the long haul, anticipating each weeks new video. Congratulations, wonderful captivating content and educational as well. Truly earned my sub!! Edit; Btw: I see you’ve already gone through some of the comments. Since the video is still so new I hope you check back in for a second time and get to read my post, tho long, I hope you read of my praise of what you do because it’s well deserved.
Some timestamps of some lines that I like 4:14 "Yes, my beloved isopods, feed and go forth to multiply in these vast lands now yours" -Isopod introduction 4:54 "Go forth and consume organic material in Pantdora you dreadful creatures of the soil abyss." -Earthworm introduction 6:01 "In, my beloved roaches! Go forth and be fruitful! Pantdora is yours to discover now." - Roaches intro -6:20 "Go forth my lady! Enjoy your new home with thine offspring" -Big mama hissing cockroach -7:15 "Go forth my shiny roach jewels!" -Shiny roaches 8:09 "Come with me, my fine Lady Katy!" -Totally a dead leaf 10:24 "Hope you manage to find Eve. Good luck" -To the single lad (jumping spider) 10:51 "Hang in there my predatory beasts. You will be joining them soon." -A few mystery beasts 11:07 "But the first phase of GAIA was complete. As the rains began to roll through baptizing Pantdora and all its new creatures with life giving, invigorating waters." -Crispy rain
Amazing work! It's fascinating to watch everything come together Now we just need a 24/7 livestream of the Vivarium with multiple different camera angles on rotation.
Pretty sure that Gecko's death was unnatural. In nature there wouldn't be nearly as high a population of ants in such a small area and there would be ways for it to escape the ants.
The mullet fish would be a great addition to your pond if you're still looking for one! Certain species of mullet, such as the striped mullet, are detritivores, feeding on organic matter found in sediment and detritus on the ocean floor.the striped mullet (Mugil cephalus) is known to inhabit both marine and freshwater habitats, including estuaries, rivers, and ponds. These fish are adaptable and can tolerate a wide range of salinities, allowing them to thrive in various aquatic environments!
I admire not only the passion/knowledge to build these things, and maintain them, but he also watches them religiously to share with us.... I appreciate all the time and energy you've put into these videos and the knowledge you share with us.
Archerfish would be fun to have in your vivarium. They may help eat the dead critters in the water and help with the over abundance of critters that are alive.
There was definitely a lot of amazing moments! Those creatures are so awesome, I would want to have some of them as pets! I like spiders, they aren't scary. Happy new year.
You just found the perfect way to absolutely explode your channel to the absolute top tier. Hats off to you, AC! You deserve it! Been here for years, I'm so proud to see the growth!
Dude ive been waiting for this video since I randomly came across the previous one... This has to be one of the coolest things i've ever seen in my 41 years. I'm equally jealous and thankful to witness this. That place looks so amazing and the setup is beatiful. So invested in seeing your future updates. Amazing work thank you and happy new year!
I'm not the only one who thinks this man is a real life super villain right (That aside this amazing, my boy out here building whole ecosystems and I can't even take care of a house plant)
This is officially homeschool science hour for my six year old. The passion and professionalism in your voice, the editing and this enclosure is just amazing. Well done. Financial contributions are sure to come.
I will continue to be in awe of what you have accomplished with Pandora! This is hands down the greatest, most fascinating story on UA-cam. It's an honor to be watching your hard work and I'm thrilled it's all getting the attention it deserves! I think about it non-stop in anticipation of next week's episode! It's so captivating. Also, I'm so in love with those marauder ants! ❤❤
I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying the Pandora series on UA-cam! It’s always exciting to see creators like this who are passionate about their work and are able to share it with the world. The marauder ants are definitely fascinating creatures, and it’s amazing to see how they interact with the other organisms in the vivarium. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series, and I’m sure that the creator will continue to come up with new and innovative ideas to keep us all captivated. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! 😊

33:44 I think it's a snake 🐍 Likely a small garden snake or something similar. Look again at the time stamp and zoom in, pretty sure you can see it land on the side of the container when he lowers it in.
I got to watch all kinds of projects of building ecosystems on UA-cam, but what you have built here is simply impressive on every possible scale, I didn't know it was possible to reach such a high level of creating an environment so compatible with what nature created inside a "glass box" for such a large variety of insects, and the way you explain the life course of what happens there is simply amazing. I saw in the other comments that there is a chance that you might broadcast this project 24/7, I hope you do. I'm sure he'll watch it.
What you are doing here is absolutely breathtaking! I can't wait to see what happens next! You sir, have a storytelling gift, and you have brought all of these creepy crawlies alive in the most amazing homage to mother nature I've ever seen! I'm so glad I found your channel! ❤❤❤
@@AntsCanadaI have an suggestion for how you could deal with the dead insect bodies was putting tadpole shrimp since they thrive in water and can eat dead insects!
That shot with the small spider and then changing the focus to show the huge huntsman spider that was in the background the whole time was a amazing shot.
All I could think of at 25:20 was har har har har har har har har har har. I love how AntsCanada dude's like "I will not, under any circumstances, be adding black crazy ants or fire ants to my vivarium" and mother nature's just like "okay. hold my beer."
It's amazing how the ants move so strategically when no individual ant has the intelligence to make those calls. They somehow evolved to collectively adopt such behavior patterns. Fascinating!!!!
I love it when he adds that isopods he makes it look like he’s just whipping them in but really, you know he’s gently putting them in because he loves these creatures
I am a Kiwi, living in Sydney, Australia, You know Australia, the land where nearly every living creature can or wants to kill you, One of my all time favourite Arachnids is the Huntsman, there are countless here in Sydney, I hope to see more. Since I have only just found your channel, I will keep watching, liking this content.
By far, the best channel on UA-cam. No hyperbole or exaggeration. Thank you for all of the amazing content! This project is incredible, and I cannot wait to see what else is in store!
So true about the invasive species. This was not the world they had asked for, but the one they found themselves in. We are to blame for the damage. You are once again an inspiration, that uplifts my day, thank you.
I second that. I actually would watch it. Would be cool to set up a web site with multiple cameras on the vivarium that we can check out like those old-school websites.
OMG, AC Family, I can't believe we did it! I can't believe the results of this project, and it just got crazier!
Your an absolute madman ants canada. I love your videos and seeing your insane understanding of the creatures you deal with :D

For the water: Freshwater shrimp. Something from the Neocaridina genus, esp. Cherry Reds. Those are fairly hardy and breed readily. you can partner them with aquatic snails and maybe some kind of catfish like an otocinclas or corydora.
I agree eith the cherry shrimp and snails but I don't think the pond is large enough for even the smaller species of catfish
The parameters of the water should be tested before picking any species. Lot of organic matter in there so the pH might be pretty low and not match the shrimps’ needs.
Can I put my vote in for Tangerine Tiger Shrimp?
i don't know anything about shrimp but if you can add a mantis shrimp, somehow, for the chaos, please proceed accordingly :p

@@AntsCanada thanks, glad to be back🐜
I love the way you're able to give us a narrative from the ants behaviour.
It’s wonderful to see creatures behaving naturally in a closed environment.
such nice vocabulary
So interesting, initially I thought that releasing that many things so fast would be too much. But seeing how fast everything got processed and re-used by the other parts of the ecosystem made me realize just how common predator/prey deaths were on a day by day basis.
Sad about the poor Gecko :( I think it very likely that she could have been overwhelmed by how many ants you have in there. Lots of repeated bites and venom could have easily taken her down if they caught her in her sleep or something. Doesn't seem like there would have been many spots safe from the ants in that enclosure.
Having that Gecko in there was one of his less well thought ideas.
I knew it was going to happen as soon as I saw the number of ants that were being added. They attack and do exactly what was said above. Poor thing. But I hope it doesn't happen again. I'm sure it was a hard lesson.
I was annoyed how many times I heard "maybe died of natural causes" - um, no - this is an ecosystem where the apex predators are actually the ants
I love how you called it ‘Gaia’ as she is Mother Earth/goddess of Earth in Greek Mythology! That little touch made me enjoy the video more.
I'm so glad!

Banahaw shooting the Blue Ant episode in awe at how many ants and nests were crammed into any given smallish space.
i think the ants will contest each other and it will stifle their masses hopefully
I think when biosphere 2 was run, Paratrechina longicornus ended up killing many of the other animals and dominating
@@AntsCanada I would try to get the gecko out and don't add another one in, it's basically a torture chamber for the poor gecko and has no hopes to survive.
I guarantee if they do get out of control they are at most gonna stifle their own food resources and cull themselves down to a reasonable population.

You could add catfish like pterygoplichthys for the pond area which eats up the dead animals. Diving beetles might also do the trick .Consider adding more escape routes for the pond so that it's not a death trap anymore.Great work on the vivarium. Consider adding some scavenger lobsters or crabs.
Don't add crawfish.😢
Catfish are way too big for that tiny pond area. Don't be ridiculous.
@kyokoyumi there is some species less than an inch so its fine
That sounds like an incredible journey into creating a miniature ecosystem! Adding animals to a giant rainforest vivarium must bring such a dynamic and lively aspect to it. It's fascinating how each creature plays a role in maintaining the balance of this mini rainforest. The idea of replicating nature's complexity on a smaller scale is truly a remarkable endeavor. I can imagine the vivid colors and diverse behaviors of the animals adding so much vibrancy to the vivarium. I RARELY leave comments, but I couldn’t resist this time. You have created an amazing and beautiful ecosystem for your animals. It shows that you really care for them. I'm sure they would of liked to end up like that gecko in an all natural ecosystem. Thing is, with certain animals, they don't really care as long as it's a dark tight hole that they feel safe in.
