Warno has finally released! What do you think? There are more Army General campaigns than I was expecting, and they seem pretty decent! But will Broken Arrow be better? Aren't we lucky to be getting all of these RTS games!
@sd_league No problem my friend, it's your time to shine! I'm curious what you think of this compared to Broken Arrow? Both seem to be good games fighting for attention in the same space. I hope the community enjoy both without getting too toxic!
@@twiglets2I think BA Will be a good game bringing more people to then genre, but I ain't the biggest fan of BAs modern setting and mechanics. I do think that would be cool before 1.0 dropped me and a friend did coop Wargame: Airland Battle campaigns that did have those call in supports and actual decisions that effected stuff outside your battlespace. So its not new to Eugen but I think this is them dipping their toes back into cold war campaigns. (Also was super cool to see the Red Dragon narrator back)
If I’m being honest, I still think that red dragon had better campaigns. This was in large part due to the sheer impact that the strategic decisions could have on each tactical engagement. If you were defending a sector, you had access to all of the command zones at the start of the engagement. It forced attackers to either get creative in attacking from multiple directions, or massing an overwhelming amount of fire before going on the offense. Another thing I liked about red Dragon was that the arrival of reinforcements and which ones were directly tied to your military successes. Control more Sectors, get more political points, get the best units deployed where you want them at the time you need them. You even had to juggle things like flight distance for your air support. I also liked how each campaign offered a different scenario. The campaigns in Warno are all the same Warsaw Pact invasion of Germany in 1989.
Good to see that they seemed to expand on the strategic layer on campaigns. I kinda loved the campaigns and badly wish they were fleshed out more in wargame. The idea that you had to work with whatever battlegroups you had nearby to win fights, or that battles could end up as phyrric victories where you technically routed your opponent but the battle can leave your forces depleted and vulnerable to a counteroffensive. Love the idea of of an rts where your assets aren't just replaceable pawns that stream out of a barracks, and where the difference between a total victory and a minor victory matters.
