    Hi Court, Tell the guys at Specialized they owe you one. Based largely on your review I bought a Vado 6. Its my first bike in 45 years and I love it. I'm an ebike convert and I'm spreading the word. You can park in my driveway anytime. Thanks a million!

    I have to say, this is a commuters dream bike. And is a Specialized. Thank you for this review Court, I really appreciate it. The camera work, explanation and pointing the good as well as the "bad" aspect as a comparison with other similar bicycles and with a calm voice really helped me. Thank you so much. You rock!

    I work on campus and it was fun seeing you navigate there. Your reviews got me into ebikes and now I commute 35 miles round trip daily on my Haibike. One thing that could be a good video idea is how universities like Stanford are promoting biking by providing incentives to employees like cash back, enclosed bike lockers, etc.
    Also I had a chuckle when you were riding on the sidewalk going the wrong way through the bike turning circle.

    The gentleman makes a (implied) insightful comment about the unjustifiable cost of university tuition, paying for grounds upkeep and building maintenance.
    Best in Class true-to-life Electric Bike demo video we’ve yet seen. Specialized seem on top of their game, although this is obviously a luxury, thus, for many, an unjustifiably expensive electric bike.

    I just wanted to give you a shout out for your CAMERA WORK. You ride one handed and juggle that thing but the video is seamless and useful. I cannot imagine how poor my version of those rides would look like.

      Thanks Martian! I've been practicing for a long time but also pick and choose clips that are smooth. I have to balance riding, talking and looking out for traffic while also being respectful to pedestrians etc. it takes some extra time but I have actually crashed and hit stationary objects in the past... which is no fun

    man, talk about quality. I like Specialized in term of build quality and stealth design. They know that electric motors and battery look odd on bike body. So they make it whole with frame. So cool. I loved the ride footage. Nice group, nice route. Pretty fast but smooth:)

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +1

      Hey Bruce, you're exactly right... I was able to hit 40+ mph in those downhill sections but the bike never felt wobbly or unstable. The thru-axles help and the slightly heavier, fatter tires also smooth it out and give you stability. Specialized did an excellent job with this product... I like most of their bike to be honest, they look cool and perform great

    Made in Asia...HQ in Kalifornia.
    Several years ago, Merida (a Taiwanese manufacturer) bought a substantial interest in Specialized. Although Specialized is still headquartered in California under the leadership of founder Mike Sinyard, all bikes are made in Asia. Key Asian suppliers are Merida, Ideal, and Giant.

    I've been thinking about buying a bike again. In the Seattle area (Eastside) I am intimidated by cars. But this ebike looks like I'd have a lot of control. It's also a Specialized which is the first and only bike I'd purchased in the past. I rode it for years off and on. Maybe it's time I get back on a bike. Great reviews. Thank you.

    Hi Court-This is some of your best work overall! The new Specialized, the scenery, the Garmin Virb, etc. I love this bike design and the class 3 (28mph) seems great for this bike. Looks like this will be a good bike to be compared to the Stromer St1 or ST2.
    I love those shots from Stanford, but how can a palm tree be that expensive?? I think I need to make my next stop in that area the next time I'm up visiting my relys! LOL Thanks again Court and ride safe. Enjoy!

    I have been a Specialized fan for decades and own a Stumpjumper, a Diverge, a Kenevo and a Kenevo SL. I love your reviews and your thoroughness with regards to features and benefits on all bikes you review. I wanted to share some information on this Vado as I am getting ready to purchase a commuter and have selected the Vado. The 6.0 Vado is not currently available in the U.S. (boo-Hoo) nor is the horn available, instead you get a bell. The higher torque of 90nm comes on the 5.0 and 70nm on the 4.0 I’m going email Mike Synyard, founder of specialized who pirchases his cars (BMW’s) from my friend. I’d love to get the higher linen headlight, built-in horn, bigger motor and higher torque that is offered on the 6.0 that you reviewed. Wish me luck!! - Lenny

    Wow! Brakes that don't squeal like a strangled cat! I've had 6 Stromers from the ST1 right the way up to the ST5. Every single one of them had squealing back brakes. Both Magura and TRP. In the end because Stromers are more "pushy" than any other I just bought Sony swimming walkmans which deaden ALL sounds. Incurable problem though. No amount of sanding or changing or "decontaminating" the disks works. Bern Head Office doesn't give a shit about it either. For 10 grand you CAN go at 30mph but you will also scare dogs and horses too when you brake. After this review I'm buying a Specialized

    I think the Quick E by Giant may be the best Buy for E Bikes..
    Set up as an Urban Commuter..
    You get great parts.. Battery Life is good.. 28mph is standard..
    And then the price of like $3100.. really makes it a strong contender in the market.

    I've heard you mention "heel strike" in a few reviews and you're usually talking about whether or not your toes will come in contact with the front tire or front fender. That situation is a really common thing in road bikes with aggressive geometry but it's a non-issue because when you're traveling at speed you will never turn that sharply. Heel strike is usually an issue with the location of panniers.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +2

      Oh man! That is so close... the Vado wins on looks because it's so seamless but the SIX50 E2 Street is cheaper, has longer travel suspension and still comes in multiple sizes. It might depend on whether a dealer was located nearby? The fender on the Vado is actually very useful and I like how quiet and smooth Brose is but Bosch is one of my favorite motor makes too... This is such a difficult trade, I think they would both be great choices!

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +1

      Yeah! There were parts here where we got close to the 41 mph mark but 45 mph is super fast. I'm guessing you were riding a road bike? If the terrain is right, it's a blast to fly like that. What are your favorite bike brands (electric or otherwise?)

    • @metamorphicorder
      @metamorphicorder 7 років тому

      ElectricBikeReview.com actually i was really young Nd dumb and much more active then. it was a mountain bike but i had it very agressive and it was too tall for me so i could get full leg extension. i had on hybrid tires and was riding down a long severe hill at night, with a tail wind. on a state highway. it was so dark i couldn't see the speedo until i got back in some light. it was almost 20 years ago, they didnt have back lit speedos i could afford then. As for preferred brands, im a big fan of giant and trek as standard bikes. i do both gas and electric motorized bikes as a hobby and transportation. gas bikes are their own little world, brands are pretty meaningless, they are what you make them. as for electrics, im pretty impressed with rad power for their quality at the price. ive messed with some of the old currie tech ezips, theres a reason they arent made anymore is all i will say about them. but its surprising that you still see some on the road every now and then, usually with a lot of duct tape and zip ties, but still grinding along. GRINDING loudly. i dont have the bread right now, but the stromers lool great and im probably going to save up for something a little more commuter than cargo soon. the wagon is heavy. its a beast and i love it but i want something a little more capable of mounting or dismounting a curb and not feeling like i need to report a crime when the rear wheel hits the pavement. i was thinking about a sondors thin, but i costs less now than the ezips did 5 years ago, that kinda speaks to the quality.
      i dont mind used bikes as i can work on bikes or make them work somehow, any suggestions?

    Hi Court, This model really caught my eye. I've tested the Stromer ST1X and the Vado 4=15mph (Vado 6 available in Belgium september). Given a choice between this bike and the Stromer ST1X which you also reviewed, which would you recommend.
    (pro's according to me for the Vado 6 = Comfort, less effort obtaining 28mph, cheaper, weight, better Shimano parts, breaking light in the rear, electric horn ....) For me the range with the battery is also important and here i have no idea for the Vado 6. Thxx for your feedback.

    great review as always..........I just ordered one through a local bike shop.......should be here in a day or two........what brand rear view mirror is that? is that the best location to avoid vibration and a blurry image? I have never been able to find a decent rear view mirror for a bike..........that might be a good topic for a video.........review all of the different styles of mirrors..........thanks

    I actually liked Stanford much more than the bike itself. For this type of bike, I believe the Riese&Muller you showed us some time ago is a much better bike.
    And while I agree Stanford can be "inspiring", the 50K per palm tree reference inspired me to buy an axe and a flannel shirt... (Sheer wasteful ridiculousness)
    Great video anyway, Court.

    Im confused, you mention this is the vado 6.0 but in the 'intoduction' section of your review on your website, you show this model being a 5.0. in addition, specialized website only lists the 5.0 and 3.0. Does specialized need to update their website and is this model available in the US this year? If so, suprising the 6.0 includes suspension but is the same price as the 5.0? nice looking bike regardless. cheers.

      Sorry for the confusion, Specialized does need to update their website... the info that is currently live there is limited and has been incorrect in a couple of cases (price is one). I produced two "placeholder" reviews which are now out of date and I intend to fix them in the coming days as time permits. I just worked really hard to get their top-end bike that we tested (the 6.0) live here as soon as I could. The review linked in the description above goes to the best data I have because I measured it in person... though there may still be some mistakes

      This was the first time Specialized invited me to a press event. We didn't get to keep the bikes or anything, just a fun ride. You can start testing and reviewing ebikes on your own by visiting shops or asking friends. I have even reviewed used ebikes that people were selling on Craigslist. Maybe someday I'll be in a position to grow my team and you could help me if you start reviewing too :D

      I use a Garmin device (you can see it mounted to the left of the Levo computer thing in the middle) and that exports a file that can be overlayed and matched with video using the Garmin Virb Edit software. Once that is done, I export it and then re-import into iMovie and do my normal editing

      ElectricBikeReview.com i noticed that a little but you were pretty courteous and minding the etiquette. there were a few times i really expected you to take a header from a curb or other obstacle. good riding. you really need to go multi cam though so you can just mount the cams before the ride and then edit them all together in post. maybe even a seperate audio recording so you can split the screen between feeds and still have the same audio sync and quality.

      Thank you for the quick response! In the Bell Super 2R MIPS Helmet review you talked about the camera mount on the chin. What gimbal are you using with your helmet mount? Are you using the GoPro Hero 5 Session?
      I really appreciate the time you put into make and producing these videos and that your videos are over 40 minutes. Its great you can talk about the specs and overview of the bike for 20+ minutes. It give a really really good close up view of all the aspects of the bike. Your bike rides with the camera mounted on the chin give a fantastic view. Super smooth. If you look down we can see it! A much more enjoyable and interactive view of whats going on.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +1

      The brake switches send a signal for the light to go from normal mode to bright in the back. It's a requirement for safety in parts of Europe... while a shift detection system isn't required and since the system measures pedal torque, I guess they figured people would just learn how to ride and shift without needing a built-in system. It could slow down performance for advanced riders depending on how they implement it and could add wires and extra sensitivity to the system. I'm not sure, maybe we will see more innovation in this space in the future

    So, Court, does Brosei motors overtaken Bosch & Yamaha motors by the storm on lux ebike market in 2017? in your opinion. ..?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +1

      Hey Sergey, I think Brose is doing pretty well! The motor is quiet, small, and manufacturers like Specialized can do their own battery and display to make it match the bike. Bosch is really great too, I feel like their motor is zippier. Difficult to say... maybe if Brose introduces shift detection? That's the one area that bugs me which Bosch is trying to address with their system, though it's not perfect

    That rear rack doesn't have much support. For some reason I thought it funny they test the bike in a wind tunnel. Sounds like ridiculousness to me. I like the bright yellow color though.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +1

      Yeah, there's a video where they show the wind tunnel... I haven't been there in person but it's like a medium sized thing that they probably use for their helmets and triathlon bike testing. In this case, they used chalk boards to show the splatter marks of water coming off of the tires in different locations (sides, rear, face) here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/7APHYs_7K7w/v-deo.html
