  • The Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 is a high-speed, feature-complete, urban electric bike with unique tubular fenders that have flexible extensions and water routing system to keep your legs, back and face dry, integrated lights and a tight modern rack. Available in 6 sizes including high-step and mid-step frame styles with gender-specific saddle and grips, custom tuned 50mm suspension fork with plenty of adjustment, sturdy thru-axles for improved power transfer and handling at high speed. Specialized TCD display, Mission Control smartphone app syncs with display for GPS readouts and battery optimization, powerful Shimano ICE-tech 180mm hydraulic disc brakes in the front and 160mm in the rear. The display is not removable, nor does it have a range estimator, there is no quick release on either wheel or even the seat post, and the battery can be tricky to click in securely.

    Thank you for your reviews, it was your reviews that helped me make the decision to buy a pedelec. I have this bike and I love it, after riding a few others I decided to go with the Specialized because of the way it felt. The Treks were nice and probably the close second but this just felt a little more solid and a little more powerful when you need it. My daily commute is 14 miles one way so 28 miles round trip with one 8% hill for about 500' of climbing and this bike handled the commute better than all the others I tried. I was able to get to 28 mph easier and hold it longer than with the three Treks, the Civia, the Giant or the iZip and on the hill the Vado maintained a higher speed as well. I also had the option to try my friend's Lectric and it just didn't stack up in power, speed and distance falling short of a round trip on the windy day I got to take it leaving me on my own the last few miles. People have commented about the price being too much but it comes down to if the lower priced bike will work for you or not, for me they didn't work as well or feel as solid and with 5000 miles of commuting for me I felt the price was worth it.

    I bought one . This review helped me seal the deal. The price was easily double the amount that I'd budgeted. I can honestly say that I have no regrets and consider this purchase one of the best that I've ever made. My Turbo Vado 5.0 has been flawless. Specialized has the '"it's you, only faster" blurb in their advertising. It's true!

    Hi Court. Thanks for the review. You said that the Vado 5.0 is top of the list, but I’m expecting to get a 2020 Vado 6.0 early in September. I ordered the bike 5 months ago as all the 2019 Vado 6.0 had flown off the shelves and there were not a single one available in Spain. The specs for 2020 Vado 6.0 are slightly different to the 2020 Vado 5.0. For instance, the rear and front lights are bigger, the brakes are TRP 4 pistons hydraulic, it will come with a rear view mirror fitted and I supposed it will also come with the electric bell. I can wait to get my hands on it.

    • @StefanMikulski
      @StefanMikulski 4 роки тому

      The 6.0 is the European version, and currently it is the only 45 km/h Vado available in Europe. The specifications of Vado 6.0 2019 have been approximately the same as of the 2017 Vado 5.0 (also an S-Pedelec), except that the new version has a suspension fork while the older one had a rigid fork.

    There is probably a reason that high end e-bikes cost as much as some new electric cars in China, but the industry needs to figure out how to get their costs down. If you took the bikes in the $3k-$10k price category and reduced the price by 50%, a lot more people would be using these bikes.

    Hey Court, This hi end bike used a 36 volt battery while so many other bikes use higher voltage Based on this review there is no question that the featured battery provides great performance. It’s a little confusing to me when higher voltage is projected to indicate higher performance but yet the 36 volt batter totally seems to do the trick. Could you help to enlighten me about lower voltage being such a good workhorse. Thoroughly enjoyed your reviews and those provided by Mickey.

    • @jeffreylines1535
      @jeffreylines1535 5 років тому +12

      The performance is more about watts, voltage is just the pressure, current is the flow and the two combined is the total work. Using ohms law, a lower voltage battery must deliver higher current to provide the same wattage. So for 550 watts a 48 volt battery with it's higher pressure will only have to supply 11.46 amps where a 36 volt battery with it's lower pressure will need more flow with 15.28 amps to provide the same 550 watts of support. Both will do the job.

      The design has been thought through, and it's a design the retailers get support for.
      There are now, a year later, "hotter" e-bikes from FLX and Juiced, for less spend, but support and good design is critical, or you end up with a dead horse.

    He claims numerous times that the front chainring of the bike in the video is the larger 48 tooth, however it's actually the smaller 40 tooth chainring of the old 2019 Vado 5.0. This is a bogus review of the old blue discontinued 2019 Vado 5.0 with the new cheap "fresh as a fliphone" TCD display that was brought in to solve problems.
    The 2020 Vado 5.0 will have the larger 48 tooth front chainring that's not in this video, similar to the 2019 Vado 6.0.
    You can clearly see the difference in chainring size by comparing the picture of the 2 versions on the Specialized website.

    For that price the lighting needs to be much better, no interference from cables not to mention no side illumination on the sides of the lights and in black is not great cyclists need much more white. Why don't all manufacturers have more white or luminous colour flashes on their frames. Say you need tyres and couldn't get any with the reflective sides? Sorry but safety needs to be much improved in my opinion. Cheers

    Do people actually spend 5 to $10,000 on electric bikes anymore? I'm not sure why you are reviewing these high-end bikes. I think the marketplace is more interested in the 1500 to $3,000 range bike. Also, I wish you would focus more on the top end speed of bikes. I'm not that concerned about water bottle holders like you are since we can mount them separately. I wish you would cover more of the Class 3 Performance, and whether the bikes actually achieve it.

    NEVER EVER BUY Specialized e-bike. I bougth a Specialized Turbo S, I think in 2015, so it's not that old. Now the rear drive has a mechanical problem. Went to the dealer they replied that it's an old bike and cannot be repaired, and there are no more spare parts. WHAT, this was a 5000 Euro bike. And now it's ready for the scrap yard ??, a 5000 Euro bike within a couple of years. First of all not very sustainable and very envirionmental unfriendly and towards customers ........ What a crap brand.

      I just purchased my first ebike, the Vado 5.0, and this is exactly my concern about the whole enterprise. My regular bike is 15 years old and good as new. Will be a bummer if this bike only lasts 3 years!

    "This one is blue but the actual bike that you'll be getting is this really nice looking black color"
    Black is black. It's not really nice, it's just black. For those who need a bike to ride to a funeral ....
    And seeing as how you shouldn't be on your cell phone at a funeral they even changed the computer to a cheaper version that can't charge it.
    Looks like the Vado line is dead, with 2020 being an attempt to dump the remaining spare parts.
