  • I bought this wordlock combination padlock after several people recommended them as "very secure", but after only a few moments was able to find a glaring weakness in the design. DO NOT BUY THIS LOCK! It is Junk!

    LOCK is a bit of a strong word BosnianBill. This is more like a word puzzle with a shackle.

    Thanks,
    I was able to pick two in a few minutes that were otherwise going to be junked. They are good enough to keep honest people honest, though I wouldn't use them for anything too valuable.

    I work at a self storage facility and we sell those locks. I had one a customer returned and was curious if I can crack it. It took me about 40 minutes to unlock but with no experience on lock picking, I thought I did a pretty good job. I'm able to pick these locks sometimes less than 10 seconds. There's like three different versions of these locks too. The first one I encountered had some metal protruding out of each wheel at certain letters. Second type had true and false gates that can easily be seen if you had a flash light. The most recent one is the one you have there. I tried to find the gates but it was impossible to see so I decided to try by feel and after a while I found out how it worked. It's really sad how I was able to crack them when I never had any experience in lock picking xD

    I have one of these locks from over ten years ago and I forgot the word I set it to so I came here to learn to pick it because it’s attached to a good quality chain.

    I think pretty much all of us thought it was so kind of them to include the tension wrench.

    I think it's a real shame the factory combination wasn't DOLT.
    Remember, "Don't leave home without it!" (If you left it locking up something at home it might not be there when you get back).

    Those Squire combination padlocks require a lot of pressure on the release button to bind the wheels. Potti314 tried sandwiching a ball bearing between some cardboard to alleviate the thumb pain and it works pretty well. Maybe something similar could work for this?

    Combo locks are generally a bad choice and insecure.

    • @jfwfreo
      @jfwfreo 5 років тому +1

      Combination locks with individual wheels like this (including bike locks, laptop locks, briefcases, suitcases etc with the same separate wheels) are all going to be crap.
      But I wouldn't call a high-end Sargent & Greenleaf dial combination lock "a bad choice and insecure"

    This does not work at all on my lock. Letters lock on position closest to lever. IT locks on EVERY LETTER gate to gate. ALL other wheels spin freely. THis must be a very old version or something.

  • @jannirri2344
    @jannirri2344 Місяць тому

    Seemed like a plausible hack, but I bought one last year, set my pwd and just went back to unlock it and couldn't with my password. I tried your hack, didn't work as some of the rows are easy to turn no matter what letter they are on and some rows were difficult to turn no matter which letter they were on. So I can't get into the storage shed. Bolt cutters are next, if that doesn't work, I'll call a lock smith. NEVER buying one of these again that's for sure - as ever I can't get into it WITH the pwd.

    With 4 dials each with ten different letters - and I think I saw dual N on 3? - there’s only so many words you can make. I bet the keyspace is closer to 100 options than to the 10000 of a 4 digit decimal lock.

  • @Richet125

    I think the idea for this lock is say a school locker or something, it's not really meant for high security. Anyone in their right mind trying to keep something expensive locked away is going to purchase a good lock.

      @Yevhenii Diomidov I know you're probably joking, but according to thefreedictionary, there are 149,165 words with 4 letters, and there are 456,976 total permutations (since you can set your password to whatever you want, it doesn't need to be a real word), a dictionary is going to be very little help
