The only paint I care about is the red in the alignment grooves and I might even do something with like different colors or alternating colors (maybe red and black) to make it easier to know what disc you are on for those of us who don't have the sixth sense of knowing what pin/disc their pick is on while it is inside a lock like LPL does. But I would be fine with and actually would prefer a silver pick with red and/or black lines. I think they should at least not put paint on the tip, a painted metal surface that is constantly being scratched and rubbing other metal surfaces will get scratched immediately, unless that paint is specially designed to provide better grip on the discs some how I don't need it and don't want it.

Congratulations LPL and Bill. It's fantastic to see your design already in the prototype stage by the ever industrious, Sparrows. 👏
I agree with the majority of the comments about the colour/contrast of the handle/markers. My idea would be to have thin silicone O-rings in the marker grooves. In my opinion, it would have a few advantages. 1) give visible and tactile indication of moving along the disk stack. 2) Act to cushion and centre the handle, making it less wobbly and remain in position if you let go of it. 3) The O-rings would decay and break over time, but I can't see replacements being a problem. 4) Finally, the rings could come in different colours, glow-in-the-dark, etc., allowing everyone to customise the markers as they please. 👍

It's baffling how many people are dissing this excellent tool. Sparrows DOES NOT fuck around with their tools. Not one thing on their site could be considered low quality, this disc detainer pick is a pro grade tool and it looks very good.

OMG, I WANT IT, I WANT IT, I WANT IT, I WANT IT!!! I don't care what price it is, I want one so bad it is so worth it. I have even looked into hiring a machine shop to build one for me but there are so few around where I live that it would be ridiculously expensive. I am going to have so much fun picking disc locks! The feeling of beating a lock by picking it open is just the most exciting feeling.

The practical comments I have are already given in other comments:
    - Red/Black contrast issue on the grid,
    - Remove the chamfer,
    - Longer tip for when the tensioning nose is fully extended,
    - Include a zeroing metal scrap piece for convenience.
I just have one optional request for Sparrows: please add LPL and Locklab logos (maybe on the ends of side arms, or on the backside).

I think your lockpick is better than the Sparrows, the material it is made of seems like steel so it is more resistant and it is also more laborious to manufacture because it is made on a lathe by a milling lathe operator, while the Sparrows seems like an aluminum alloy although it may be steel too.
I think it is better for the base of the tensioner to be square because we can insert any tensioner of any diameter by filing it a little.

I also commented this on bosnian bill's video; maybe an adjustable "stopper" ring on the tension shaft could come in handy, so you could set it to exactly the depth for the first disc with the ring right against the lock body. Might improve comfort and stability while picking ;)

Thanks so much for this! I missed it in my inbox somehow, but thanks to the video, I've found my new favourite place to buy picks and won't have to worry too much about shipping and conversion rates (I live in Canada). I'm not really in tune with the locksport community, so finding a place that's not Amazon for picks (which is where I got my starting kit, I got lucky with a few hooks that are okay but not great and one tension bar that I really like) is really nice!

Definitely hyped to see that they're following through on making it but also not gonna lie...yours looks WAY better and more professional. The black finish looks like its fading away fast and the knurling that they did instead makes it look like a toy. Definitely hope that the final product is more refined from Sparrows and that they have a silver option for it like yours as it looks way better. Maybe you could pass on the suggestion that they offer it in the silver as well as from reading the comments it seems like I'm far from the only one who thinks yours is more professional looking. Either way great work!!!
