I considered this field. It is HIGHLY competitive. The reason rural areas pay more, is because there is a deficit. Large cities have plenty. So the competition drives wages down. Montana,Wyoming and states similar have smaller populations. Less hospitals per capita. Less people move there. So Nurse Anesthetists are in higher demand. If you choose to go into this field, I'd consider moving. Maybe try travel nursing to see if you like the areas where you'll be paid the highest. Travel nurses make a high income as well. I live in Phoenix.

Since CRNAs are present only in the US, so, if they want to shift to other countries, Can they work Anesthesiology assistant?,as countries like Canada, UK, Aus, NZ etc don't have CRNAs

CRNA operate in other countries. Not to the same extent as the US but there’s a market in other countries. Look at the IFNA for more info.

Hey, current SRNA here. Admission into CRNA school is a competitive process. You’re going to want to keep your GPA as high as you can, the low end for CRNA school matriculates is around a 3.1-3.2. Not saying you can’t get in if your overall college GPA is lower, but it does create a serious obstacle. Upon obtaining your RN, you’re going to want to work in an Intensive Care Unit for a couple years prior to applying. Try to make sure that the ICU you work in gives you good experience, a tertiary care center is preferred. Most programs only require 1 year of critical care experience, however the average is much higher. You’ll also want to obtain the CCRN while you are working in the ICU, as most matriculates have this certification. Prior to applying you will need to take the GRE. I would actually recommend taking this exam within the first year or two of graduating your undergraduate program, as people seem to have more difficulty with it the longer they’ve been out of school. During your time in the ICU it is also important that you take every opportunity to network and get to know some CRNAs, as you will need to shadow them and get a letter of recommendation. Some programs want letters of recommendation from your manager, and others primarily want letters from your previous instructors as well, so it is important that you are professional throughout the entirety of your undergraduate nursing education and bedside nursing experience. Aside from that, I would highly recommend you save as much money as possible as CRNA school is considerably more expensive than NP school, and you will not have the luxury of being able to work through it like the NPs do. Now, prior to doing ANY of this, you should probably reach out to any RNs you know to get an idea of what the nursing field is like, because if you get into with the sole purpose of becoming a CRNA and then don’t get into a CRNA program, you’re not gonna be a happy camper.

@@dboatright2497 1.) How many hours of work are needed to attain a CCRN?
2.) What are your thoughts on matriculants becoming an RN with an ADN, then earning their BSN online? Is earning a BSN online feasible for CRNA school?

@@walterclements2877 1) off the top of my head, I believe the requirements are either 1800 hours or two years. However, with working full time you will reach 1800 hours in one year of work, so once you feel ready just go ahead and take it. They verify the hour requirement by having you put down some references, they can just be coworkers.
      2) Getting an online BSN after completing an ADN is totally fine, that’s the route that I went and it was never even brought up. What they are more concerned about is your gpa and work experience. Past performance is a great predictor if future performance, so if you have a good gpa throughout undergrad, then you’re most likely a pretty good student and will remain a good student. That’s not to say that if you have a bad gpa you can’t get in, because they will look at trends. I don’t have the best undergrad gpa (3.2 I think?) but I had a strong upward trend and my gpa was pulled down from some C’s I got while duel enrolling in high school. Listen, you don’t have to go to some big name university to take your classes, in fact I recommend you don’t unless you’re not worried about the cost because they’re typically expensive.
I recommend just doing the absolute best in an ADN and BSN program, doing very well in clinicals (the CRNA I contacted to shadow later was one that I met during my clinicals in my ADN program), and continuing to do well in your career. When it comes to shadowing, you may only have to shadow a few times to get a letter of recommendation; but I would recommend shadowing enough so that the CRNA that is writing your letter or filling out the schools form actually knows you. I shadowed a good 50-60 hours, on top of the 50-60 hours I got to spend with anesthesia during nursing school. That connection gave me an excellent letter (you can’t read them, but considering how my interview went I assume it was pretty good) with a well respected graduate of the program I am now attending.
