CRNA vlog: A day in the life of anesthesia
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Come see a day in the life of a CRNA! I will show you what it’s like to give anesthesia to patients for surgery everyday. Every day is different but hopefully I can give you an idea of what it’s like getting anesthesia.
I work at a community Hosptial in small town Indiana. I love my job so much and look forward to what each day has in store! Anesthesia is such an amazing part of surgery. There are so many different types - general, regional, spinal, epidural, Mac. All have their place.
Please comment and ask any questions! I love anesthesia so much and I want to help others know what to expect when they or a loved one needs to get anesthesia for a procedure.

when she actually shows what she does in a day instead of two clips walking in and out of the hospital 😍😍
Haha well it’s kinda hard to take videos of what I do since I’m with patients most of the time
This was such a great video, I totally agree!!!
I am finishing my ADN in 2 weeks and have a job lined up in the neuro ICU. I cannot WAIT to get into CRNA school! Thanks for this video! Please show more❤️
Hey. I finish in a fee weeks too. How did you do it? I don't have nclex done yet...I didn't know they hire...are you in LA area?
@@melmar2515 I am in Cleveland area and the clinic hires new grads and trains them in a 1 year residency program on all units. I don’t have my nclex done yet either but I applied and they hired me on the spot. Good luck to you!!
@@kjv3192 I finish my ADN next week, I have a job lined up in the clinics MICU, congrats!!
@@adaeze4873 congrats to you too!
I really liked this video, I'm in my first semester in nursing school and I recently started researching crna life and maybe thinking of pursuing it. This video really helped me understand better than other videos on youtube. Thanks
This was an amazing video!!! ❤
I love your videos 👏🏽🔥... please make more🙏🏽
Haha I’ll work on it :)
I’m gonna echo the commentor who said they had trouble hearing the audio, no pun intended 🤪 I was wondering though - how risky are Bier Blocks? I’m assuming the lido is IV for injection as local anesthetic introduced into circulation can be deadly right? Or does the tourniquet change that?
What were your grades like in your undergrad nursing program? Anything to help a candidate stand out when getting into CRNA school?
What's the difference between CRNA anesthesist and a Dr. Anesthesiologist that go more than 10 years to medical school?
CRNAs go through nursing school & have to practice in the ICU before anesthesia school .. anesthesiologists go through med school before starting their anesthesia residency. Just different routes!
I hope you don’t mind me asking, I have been looking into this job and I was Woundering on average how many hours do you work per day? I can’t find any answers to that or on average how many night shifts?
Hey there! When you gave the bilat tap block I’m assuming you gave that after the c-section? I’m a new grad in the finishing up my orientation in the ICU and am fascinated by anesthesia🤩 hopefully one day I’ll be a CRNA too!!
@@TheWildFam would love to see a video about how you got in and study tips for the GRE and the schooling itself!
@@TheWildFam so excited, thank you!
Question for both of you is it hard for a new grad to get a job in the icu?
I’ve been a CRNA for over 14 years and you did a really great job showing what we do. Thank you for shining light on our wonderful profession!
how long did it take you become a CRNA? And was the overall hard?
@@mslittlexmiss6899 for me it took a little over two years. Yes, anesthesia school is definitely hard, but considering what we do and everything we need to know, it should be. The biggest challenge is balancing your time between class, studying and family. It is a huge sacrifice but well worth it in the end.
I thought anesthesiologists were doctors
@Jin jin Yang jajajajaja u make my 4 of july...thanks..
@@unapologeticallyme7664 Nurses in general know more about a client than Doctors....Thw only diference is more years training and rhe tittlw Dr.
Hi! Thank you for this video. I’m a retired CRNA. I practiced in a small community hospital for 26 years and our day to day experiences appear to be quite similar. I’ve been retired for 10 years and I was beginning to forget what my life was like for all those years. Your video reminded me and brought back so many fond memories. Thanks again 😊
Oh my word how fun thank you so much for reaching out!!! We have the best job ever 🙌🏽
My daughter just passed her boards and will start her new job soon, so proud of her, she’s worked so hard.
Thank you for posting this. I’m an ICU nurse 3years and I know I’m ready to make the jump to CRNA school and take up this challenge. Your video just reinforces my burning desire to aim higher. Thanks again!
I think an important aspect of medicine is knowing your nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist is confident in their knowledge and skill. With any surgery I’ve had, the anesthesia workers on my case were so open and glad to share their confidence and THAT is what put me to ease during my surgeries. You all are often in the background but you are so incredibly appreciated. Your confidence and love for your job goes miles. We thank you!
That’s why mid level encroachment is such a big issue since nurses don’t go to medical school or do a residency in anesthesiology
This is my dream Job, just finished my Certificate in Nursing , looking forward to upgrading to RN then Anesthesia school, long way but I truly know it's going to be worth it.thank you for inspiring us, to keep our heads up high and only hope for the best.
This is my dream job! Just got into RN school so I have a ways to go and I’m thankful for your content to motivate me!! (:
How is it so far.. I'm thinking this is the career path I want to go down
As a neonatal transport nurse of 30+ years I can tell you that anesthesia is confounding to most and requires a truly superior intellect to master. Much respect to you girl!
this super loud music is unnecessary, I kept increasing and decreasing the volume throughout the video, especially since the crna is so soft spoke. loved the content though
How long into being an SRNA or CRNA did you feel 100% confident in your skill set and prepared for any emergency situation that could arise during a procedure? I struggle with confidence and one thing holding me back from going back to school is being afraid with having such a big responsibility.
I have so much respect for what you do and the fact that you're able to critically think and make drug calculations with little sleep, hats off to you. You're patients are lucky to have you.
More videos please!! Im a new RN grad and really considering going back to school for CRNA. I would like to know if you can select a specialty once you are CRNA, like only working with c-sections etc..or how does the scheduling work? How is your family/work balance?
Thank you for this video it’s very informative. Im a new Grad RN and this was very eye opening to what CRNAs do. Please keep making videos like this and would loveee if you can do a Q&A video on CRNA. The cost of schooling , are you able to work while going to school for CRNA things like that. You seem to really love what you do and that’s why I want in life not dreading to come to work everyday lol .
Damn, I'm impressed at your ability to multitask. It definitely shows that you are proficient at what you do!
If you haven't already, you should do a video on how you studied in nursing school and CRNA school
Thank you for showing this! I’m trying to pass my NCLEX and this just gave me so much motivation. This has been my dream job for years. Thank you!!!
This makes me so excited, thank you for posting this. I'm currently in nursing school, and I'm definitely wanting to go into ICU when I graduate and to become a CRNA!
Get it girl!!
Great video! Starting my CRNA schooling next month, and while I’m beyond nervous, I can’t wait for all the joy it’ll be bringing me and my family.
Congrats Kyle!!!! That’s so exciting! I wish u the very best, I’m half through mine. I keep hearing it’ll be rewarding....it is definitely a journey though. But very achievable and doable.
Wow so there is no anesthesiologists in this hospital ?
Hi Kyle, how long is your program start to finish and cost to attend in your area?
All the best on your venture, I know you'll be great and thank you for your help
@@sandstew2697 hey there! My program is 36 months straight through, so no summers off, and I believe it is roughly 35k a year.
@@1hopefulcrna875 Hi Kyle, please can you share what school you applied to. Most of the CRNA school I have been looking to apply has a fee of over 78k per year
SRNA here! Thanks for showing us what a day in the life is like! Can’t wait to graduate
I'm starting nursing school in Spring and I'm so excited because my end goal is to be a CRNA 💜 please do a Q&A :)
I’m a NP who had to leave for medical reasons. I laughed when u were in endoscopy because I’m in there every few months having my GJ replaced. But I can’t have propofol due to severe reactions. I’m allergic to eggs. They usually use ketamine or go general. My central line has been awesome for 9 months. It was really neat hearing how much u love what u do.
Much love from Kentucky, Lesley and Service Dog Jake
Egg allergy does not preclude you from propofol.
More CRNA content please 😊💖

Please put sign down and believe in the Lord . Ok
PS. Two fingers on advised of this video .
Very interesting! I’m always a special case when I have to go under because I was diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia when I was a child. Anesthesiologists are always very on top of it. I’m going to nursing school now too, medical field is my jam too! Great video :)
I had a very quick emergency c-section. My baby crashed and I crashed.
My baby was face up and when I had a contraction her face pushed against my stomach and she stopped breathing. I started hemorrhaging. I have Lupus and that caused some issues but everything turned out OK!!
In my mid 20s starting nursing school next spring CRNA is the goal thank you for this peek into some of the duties!
Wish you the best of luck in nursing school!
I’m starting nursing school, & your video really helped me relax and think about how great my job will be in the future. Nice and easy! & I believe in medicine so much.
itll be interesting to see how "these times", will affect your life, cant wait to see, hope you keep it real, Im guessing you guys got the ''needle'' any side effects?
This was super helpful! I loved how informative you were about the types of anesthesia you were doing. I'm applying for CRNA school and youtube definitely needs more content on this. :)
Just got my first ICU RN job as a new grad I start in a couple of weeks, I loved watching this glimpse into my future !!
My best anesthesia is Jack Daniel and Coke Cacola
Question: I am currently a CNA, I want to got to school for CRNA so I have a long way to go!! How did you maintain a lifestyle going to school and work to become CRNA!!??
Loved the video finally someone who shows inside the hospital
So glad I found your channel. I absolutely love your energy!!✨✨✨
Just recently found your channel! I’m an ER nurse and looking into going back for CRNA school. I love this day in the life video, love to see more!
I love your attitude! This is how everyone should be , but I know it doesn’t always work out. I’m glad you love your job. I’m sure it comes across to your patients and as a patient who has had several surgeries, it helps when someone is confident and knows what they’re doing, but is still approachable and funny. I’m a bundle of nerves the morning of and that really helps calm me down. I wish I could have you in all my surgeries! I hope you have a blessed day!🤗
This is so rad... Im starting nursing school in August and have never considered CRNA but now its looking pretty sweet
Amazing, she awakens with fake eyelashes.
they are called lash extensions lol
This has to be the toughest job!! Well done on getting certified to do this!!! Fascinating
It’s a challenging job, but don’t confuse CNRAs with anesthesiologists, who are physicians with *much* more challenging (and lengthier) training, much longer shifts, and the most complicated cases.
@@conniedelio LOL, okkkkk she has obviously done a ton to be where she’s at, why are you comparing?!? Just stop.
@@stephanierice784 lol for real
It's really rough, so make sure you can handle the hours and the stress! It will mess with your life!
I’m an addict and alcoholic. At the end of my use it was all about Opioids. I’ve been sober for 14 years. Not gonna lie, this is the yummiest channel I’ve ever watched. Watching you draw that up makes me want to break my arm!!!! I won’t. But Damn!!
Can you do a ‘how I became a CRNA’ video? Pls pls, I graduate nursing school in august and anesthesia has been my dream job since literally I was 5 !!
i have been a paramedic for years and love to see a chanel on here that shows that great job that you all do. Take care.
I’m a retired RN. I worked in labor and delivery for about 2 years and the newborn nursery for over 20 years. I sure do miss working. I love watching these kind of videos but then I get kind of sad that my time is up.
I'm in nursing school in Egypt in the second year and I wanna be a CRNA after I graduate, any advice? 💖🌹
@@TheWildFam I'm very glad for your response😍🌹
I have had 3 sections, I was blessed to have had MS Epi's. I worked in L&D for 16 years and I always felt sorry for the ER sections who woke up in such pain. I admire your care for your patients and helping that mom by giving her that nerve block.
this was so helpful, thank you
Hi! I'm fifteen and i'm immensely interested in being in the field of anesthesia. But I also value my time with family which I know is hard for anesthesiologist. I also know they may not get too much sleep so I just want to know how it is like. Thank you!
I am not CRNA. Never going to pursue. Cannot stand hospitals in general. But watched every second of this video LOL! Loved it so much! Please do more of these. Super informative.
Greeeat a new CRNA to my newsfeed! Love it! CRNA has been my dream for at least 10yrs but this past year, with COVID...ya girl got a liiitle burnTout🥵 lol I work both ED & ICU as a traveler with ED being my home! In the meantime, until I figure things out, I’m approaching the end of my 1st yr of FNP school🤞🏾 But CRNA is STILL on my heart! We.will.see! Please keep the content coming 🤙🏾
I am earning my BSN right now and getting my RN soon. I want to get into anesthesia!! Definitely a long term goal for me 😁😁
I just found your channel !!!! AHHHH IM OBSESSED!!!! I’m a CNA and my program instructor told me I should look into CRNA and I’d NEVER heard of it but wow !!! This job looks so so awesome!!!!
I am planning on going to nursing school and furthering my career into becoming a CRNA. I was wondering how long you worked as a ICU nurse before going to CRNA school?
3 years!!
Thank you!
I’ve wondered what a CRNA does. Very interesting, I enjoyed watching your video!
If you ever see my daughter, Audrey, introduce yourself! I’ve told her you work at same hospital, but she said she doesn’t think she’s met you.
(She works afternoons/evening, so you may never see her.) She’s currently working as a phlebotomist while she finishes up her BA for Medical Laboratory Scientist!
i’m just graduating high school and i know for sure i want to be a CRNA. loved seeing this video pop up.

I like that you are continuing your education but please go to get your RN. I completed a 4 year course in 2 years 8.months. My grades were top of the class and you can do it. Same classes same things and a lot m9re money for your risk
And you are at great risk. Please consider this.
@@eunicestone838 I will bridge eventually but I'm doing RPN first as I'd like to start working as soon as possible.
We don't have nurses that do what you do here in the UK, it is always a doctor that does the anaesthetics. I have had a few in the last ten years. I remember my very 1st one this was in a small hospital and it is definitely small but had a A&E department. I got admitted on the Friday and it was a bank holiday weekend so the hospital runs on few staff. Well i needed emergency surgery to.save my life on the Monday night at 10pm not the best time to try and die in the UK.
So I had Toxic Megacolon which is rare, and I also felt my large bowel pop, they had to call everyone in for my opinion that night. I had a HR of 200 it was very high when I went in on the Friday, my CRP was off the scale i also had a very high temperature. And what I do remember very well when in the room with the anaesthetic doctor and they were doing my bp. And things he seen my HR and also my temp and he did swear, not very professional, but what can you say? I was out cold for 3 days in ICU and I went home 3 weeks later. Had a few more major ops after that one. I now am a volunteer 1st responder for the ambulance service have been for the last 7yrs, the reason why? is because the NHS saved my life. I can never ever repay what they have done for me over the last 10yrs so it's my way of in some small way given back. Keep up the good work..
Thank you for the vid! I’m currently taking prerequisites for a vocational RN program and becoming a CRNA is the ultimate end goal for me
Im surprised you were prepping meds for the operating room without gloves. I thought everything had do be sterile and untouched by bare hands for the OR?? I LOVE seeing this kind of content! Nurses are one of the professionals i most admire. Im a psycho-social nurse tech, im not supposed to do invasive procedures, just mostly hygienic stuff, wounds and tubing care and meds administration, but to give my best care i still want to learn from the best! You guys! Thanks for sharing your day :D
Our stuff isn’t sterile!! The meds/equipment used on the sterile field is sterile. Anesthesia is above the head in the non sterile field.
@@TheWildFam oooooh okay. I learned something. Thanks a lot for your reply!
I've been put "under" a few times in my life, but NEVER by someone who looks like you Sarah. Wow, "Angel - going under and coming out." Nurse always says "OK, count backward from 10, and I'm like, OK, - ten - nine - eigssss...."Are you gonna sleep all day "- WAKE UP ??
You have a great attitude about what you do❣️ Love to see it✨
Love this.. Is my goal after I graduate nursing school in a few months! Question for you though, do you have a anesthesiologist overlooking you? I know it can vary by hospital and area, but for the most part are you alone doing anesthesia with your patients or how does that work with anesthesiologists?
As a senior ICU nurse I totally agree! Always be prepared for the unexpected! Know that your equipment is nearby and working and ready to roll! Multitasking and awareness of preemptively approaching your care. 😀👌

I’m wondering, I work in an endoscopy center. Some of our CRNAs snow the patients while others have their patients come out awake and talking... do you think it’s an ethical issue for CRNAs to give more anesthesia than necessary?

I’m so incredibly new to this. I’m a 15 year certified medical coder and just recently accepted into the surgical tech program so I’m excited to get that under my belt and get into the OR but my overall goal is to become a CRNA. My daughter is just shy of 3 years going into her healthcare career so we will be going to school at the same time. She wants to become a NP. Here’s to becoming a CRNA within the next 10 years 🎉 😅
Hey there! I am a prospective nursing student. I am hoping to be accepted fall of 2022. I've recently considered becoming either an RNFA or CRNA because I've always wanted to work in the OR. I tend to get anxious, and it is difficult for me to calm down. Have you ever felt anxious on the job? How did you feel on your first day as a CRNA? Have there ever been moments where you felt like the job wasn't for you, or you couldn't handle it? Thank you for your time :)
For some reason I'm terrified of anesthesia and surgery always thinking I will die ( health related anxiety ) most pain meds make me extremely nauseous and ill
Completely understand. Lost my father at the age of 10. I was terrified of hospitals. Took time but I overcame it. I’ve had numerous surgeries. 60 years old now disabled.

I worked as a CRNA in Germany for almost 6 years. Now I'm doing med school to become an anesthesist. I'm deeply impressed by your work and how similar it is to how we do anesthesia here in Germany. Go on like that, great vlog! Greetings from overseas!
How was the transition from CRNA to med school? Did you take pre med classes while being a CRNA? I’m very interested in doing this type of career path of being a CRNA first then maybe go to become an Anesthesist
@@rachelhernandez6896 It was a great but also a hard change. I don't know the US concept but here in Germany the first two years of med school are all about nature science and medical basics, like anatomy, bio chemistry, physics, physiology, etc. But as a former CRNA I exectly know what I'm doing it for and that the pressure and stress are worth it! In my holidays I'm doing internships in anesthesia, critical care and ED and it's a great feeling to bring both studies and job expertise together like a puzzle I was working on for years. So I can just recommend you to follow your dreams and to look straight forward to become an anesthesist 😃👌
@@jeantres-monia6410 so did you have to go back and do extra schooling for the med school pre-requisites? Or when/how did you incorporate the courses into your CRNA life?
@@rachelhernandez6896 I got my A-Level (Abitur) in 2015 after 12yrs of school. That´s the necassary condition to go to university in GER, but the grades must be 1,0 in total to visit med school (called "Nummerus clausus"). I did a 1,8 so that I needed a gap filler until I got a spot at med school. I decided to do the EMT qualification and later the CRNA (3 yrs of job school here) and worked as one for another 2,5 yrs. I loved both EMT and CRNA job that much that I was not even sure anymore whethter I want to apply again or not. But when I applied again for medschool after all of these stopovers in 2020, I finally got my spot at medschool and started it in Oct 2020. Med school definetly is a full time job so that I can´t work as a CRNA at the moment (so sad!!).
