- Civilization 6 Gameplay [Civ 6] Germany - City State Domination Strategy! Frederick Barbarossa is the new leader of Germany in civilization 6 and he gives heavy bonuses for attacking city states. A domination victory is easier to obtain with Germany but I will have to wait and see what this campaign throws at me. What do you think of Germany in Civ 6? Let me know below!

In Civ V I also tended to go for Fascism as Germany - not because of historical Immersion but because I needed Oil, Aluminium and Uranium so badly

U-Boot is for "Untersee-boot", which means "Undersea-Boat" :)
When you play as Greece and you have Germany next to you they are going to rip all of the city-states near you and demolishing your unique Civ bonus. So as Greece it is in your best interest to get rid of Germany asap. I kinda like that dynamic in this game and how Civs are interacting with each other based on agendas and bonuses.
Of course Victoria is smug, she is preparing for some great banter.

Shes had a hard on for frederick my whole game up until recently. Kinda sucks too. I want to invite england to recreate ww2 to prevent them from a science victory. But i guess its up to the good old USA and of all people saladin and qin shi huang to make up the allies lol. Funny tho... the only war between me and japan is religous lol. Wish theyd focus on russia... theyre getting unstoppable.

You don't really need cities on the coast, as long as they can reach the coast you can build a harbor.
He wasted the first 3 turns.
Do you still get the Sailing inspiration if you settle away from the coast though? It'd still be a dubious tradeoff (swapping three turns of growth and production for half the price of a cheap technology), but I have a feeling you might need to be directly adjacent to the ocean to get the eureka moment.

@Oisan allen In 3 turns you could pay for the science you gained to sailing in the food, production, and science generation that you lost in the meantime.... Plus you can always just settle a city on the coast later anyway.
This is why he did it. Having coast in the 3-tile range isn't enough: you need to literally settle on the coast.
Did you forget that you don't need the city against the coast to produce naval units? You can build a harbor district.
I think he just wanted to get a navy out sooner and also have access to resources.
Zach Roberts Builders can go right into the water and work the resources anyway though.

Peter Petrov well Aachen was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire so it kind of makes sense

Yeah, it's slightly confusing that they called the civ Germany, when it should really be HRE. Capital of the HRE moved around a lot during its existence, it was only until Prussia's dominance of the German states that Berlin became the capital.

Cameron Ricketts yes but i believe that what he meant was that harbors are useful. I mean i don't prioritize sailing as germany, so I don't ever really care about the eureka.
Elliott Belser Being a turn or two behind everybody else is quite a big deal in the early game and eureka moments are not very helpful with ancient era tech

At first I was like "why do you need Animal Husbandry for mushrooms" and then I realized that it was for the pigs you train to forage for them. Clever, Civ 6.
I am deeply uncomfortable with Germany having synergy with going for high Fash. It makes sense, but still, the value of taking a ludicrous number of military policies is undeniable. Having military slots to spare ALSO allows for a more balanced Democracy, though.
I would be curious to see about a Kaiser Wilhelm leader, or a cultural powerhouse in Ludwig II who gets culture or art slots from castles/walls.
Sorry for posting on such an old comment, but Germany needs Bismarck as a unique governor.

Just a tip for you Drew, if you don't want to worry about Religion, build Stonehenge, its like a religious district so you can kind of 'set it and forget it" faith wise for a long time. And you have lots of stone, which is what you need to build it.
Just started a game last night as Germany. By turn 35 I took Poland’s capital and two city states with just warriors. Love their early game military might.

dude i forgot about your vids sounds rude but im busy like the rest of the world. but i always found a calming sense to your videos something i can just watch and chill, cheers mate to the great videos please keep them up earned my sub and ive only subbed like 9 people so you earned it. also when i first got into paradox games, i played crusader kings 2 on my old laptop and it was a toaster so for 4 years i could get 1/2 through the game and it would crash so i was scared to by their other games. until now 2017 i got a great laptop and i was watching a couple videos on the other paradox games and i saw your Australia play through on HO4 as a communist LOL and i love ww2 games and strategy games and instantly bought it and got thrust into the most confusing 2 weeks of trying to learn the game and actually only learned the game by watching your videos and then adapting. so again sorry for the long explination but being deployed in japan kinda gives you a lot of time to think and watch videos. great work content is much appreciated for real :D
Why are all the people who get to play the preview so bad at this game ?If he has as good of a grasp of this game then why does he waste several turns to build a coastal city even though a city dosnt need to be coastal to build a harbor district ?
I doubt 2K/Firaxis factors game skill in at all, just the level of viewership.
Besides its not all, just most, to varying degrees. I've seen MUCH worse gameplay on other channels, this one is about average. The only good play I've really seen is from Quill18 but that got a bit boring after he started space race concepts by the 1700's.

PS Drew, in this game if you settle on cattle you get +1 food, in civ 5 it would remove food and give you 2-1 food-hammer combo, here it's 3-1 food-hammer. Just thought I'd let you know :D

I like how in several of your videos you say how it's not worthy to go for a tech, policy or building, and then do exactly that. Like... "don't need a scout, let's build a monument..you know what? I'm gonna build a scout"..." you don't really need gold unless for big army...which I'm going after to, let's focus on gold tile".
You should seriously found another city to your left along the river where you can grab the Dyes, Tobacco, and Jade. That is an incredible spot. I'd grab it quick before England or Greece decides to. Probably directly after your monument would be good.

If you can work a sea tile then your city will be coastal so you could found your city right there you didn't need to move to be adjacent to it.

It is not 3, 6, and 9 for districts. You get one for pop one and one for every additional pop,
city district count "((Population-1)/3)+1"

Submarines are boats. A ship is defined as a boat that carries other boats; for example a cruise ship has life boats.

You don't have to have a city on the coast to have coastal city since you only need a tile on the coast to build harbor which lets you build boats

You were so anxious to build on the coast. You do know that you don't have to actually build on the coast in order to build ships in this one, right? Or was that not what you were going for?

Well some of their bonuses are for war, the other are for tourism. If you go for domination you waste the tourism. If you go for culture victory you aren't using the military strengths to their full potential. It's why they are my least favorite civ in civ 6 besides Germany
That depends on how much culture can compete with science in war. They did say that the new tech tree for culture was made so a culture focus countries would not be as weak against science focus countries, then it was in the past. How true that is, we're going to have to figure that out ourselves.
What are you talking about? Going to war is one of the best ways to win a cultural victory, since you stop other peoples cultural production and steal their tourism.
I like to win culture victory without going to war unless an ai becomes difficult to deal with

So far, after about 100 single player games, I have yet to get Aachen to spawn on the coast with also a fresh water source. How did you manage that...playing on Chieftain level or something else?

+Drew Durnil Hey America hates people on their own continent. Right before you discovered America it said that you discovered a new continent. So it is possible that you are not on the same continent even though you are connected by land. I would check that.
He checked the continent map like twice in the video. Germany is right on the border between the two.

I don't want to bash the game too much, but I just feel like it's a huge let down compared to Civ 5 and 4. The whole theme, feeling, and gameplay are all so off. At least that's how it feels to me. I wish they would expand on my two fav strategy games rather than changing the series.

fellas, a question: isn't it enough to just put a harbor district on the coast and keep the capital 1 or 2 tiles inland to be able to construct ships? i mean i have a feeling that the initial starting location could've been "coastal" with a bit of stretching involved. or am i completely wrong here?
Yes that would have been possible, although he would've not gotten the eurika boost for sailing because that requires a city on a coast.

You are correct, he could've stayed put and built a harbour, however since he wants to go naval very quickly and the harbour comes a bit later settling on the coast gives him earlier shipbuilding access. He can still build the habour later anyway.
