I love your enthusiasm about the Ruck. I bought one back in March of 2016, it had 237 miles on it. It's now over 33,000 miles, all me!. No car, just the Ruckus. I commute 20 miles daily and I've ridden it on longer trips, the longest being from Los Angeles, CA to Moab, UT and back. My only mods at the time were experimenting with different variators and weights, lower handle bars, lower seat frame and better suspension (the stock front and rear suspension on the Ruckus is its clear weak point and I highly recommend upgrading, at least the rear shock with a Yamaha Zuma drop in replacement). It has been 100% reliable. Change the engine oil every 500 miles and the gear oil every 2000 or so and just keep an eye on the other stuff. A little modding is ok if you know what you're doing and what you want. I currently run it without the floorboard, with a pod filter intake instead of the airbox and the correct jets to compensate. It's been like this for over a year and is still dead reliable. Clutches do fail from time to time (high rpms and next to no speed) and belts and variators and weights wear out, but I consider all those things consumables. Be sure to look after your Ruckus and there will be more long-term fun in store for you :)

I too bought a 2016 Ruck to flip and had it sitting in the garage for almost a year and then registered it to get the paperwork going and get ready to sell it.. I planned to ride it in the meantime.. yeah man, I fell in love with it too I had about 340 miles when I bought it and just hit 4000. I've been riding a lot of other bikes over the years but this one is so much fun
I love hearing about peoples long distant travels on the ruckus there was a guy on UA-cam who was traveling do United States I think or China I was watching it was pretty cool that’s so cool that you did that because I live out here in Las Vegas and I was wondering would I be able to go to Utah or LA

How does it ride on the highway? I'm thinking about getting this as my first bike, but most of driving would be on a 2 lane highway (~60mph)
I have my brand new 2024 Ruckus behind me strapped in on a public transportation bus and I’m so excited to get home and ride it!
I test drove a ruckus when I was 280 pounds, over the weight limit. The dealer never told the weight limit and just told me to give it a test drive. I actually went 40mph (flat). How it managed to go that speed was surprising. I even turned on my Speedo from my cell phone and it said 40 as well. Right now I weigh near 245 and continuing my weight loss. When I finally get a ruckus I hope I can get down to 200 by the time I purchase one. It was a blast riding this little beast and I think having one will make me experience life differently, in a good way.

@@timhudson1846 man that is great to hear! I’m still waiting to get me a ruckus. But I have been riding a friends ruckus since he has 2 of them. I’m just still in doubt if I should get warranty or just buy a used ruckus. The rear shock I think there is a direct replacement from another scooter, not sure which one. But it’s suppose to be stiffer and doesn’t make the Ruck bottom end. Enjoy your ruckus brother!

Always liked the Ruckus, finally I bought one and it proved me right.
I've ridden Honda super Cubs for a very long time and absolutely love the smaller mini bikes. I got rid of my two super cubs and I'm looking at getting one of these since it looks like it's more off-road capable. I was always afraid of damaging the plastics. Absolutely the biggest support group you're ever going to find. I broke down on the side of the road a couple of times and everybody asks if I need a hand.

Got a 2012 Civic , a 2020 CRF 450r and my 2019 Ruckus! I am sipping gas and hauling ass! Once you go with a Honda you will never regret it!
Here here! Now I did end up with a bad ruckus.. needed constant valve adjustments but looking back, I kinda wanna blame the obnoxious exhaust it came with. Seriously though my Chinese scooters looked great in contrast.. now my rebel 250 on the other hand has been fantastic. Two years, 10k miles and it's always fired right up. Hot or cold. Maintenance is minimal and easy as well.
I’m from New England as well and I just picked up a 2008 Ruckus, so glad to hear the Honda reliability isn’t forgotten with the ruckus, definitely worth it I feel👍🏽

I agree with reliability if kept stock. I have a Kymco & I'm always advised to mod this & that. Nope. Kept it stock & it starts everytime after 4 years of ownership
Even my electric 500w scooter was finer than expected. And cheap. Rebuilt it already after a year. Rode it in the snow... Ruckus is the way!

Anything Honda will last a lifetime if taken care of! And I’m not talking repairs but just simple oil changes lolol… I have a garage full of 3 wheelers from the 80s and all of em run like the day they were sold! Also been having a lot of fun with my Honda elite 80 scooter and a 250 elite scooter both from the 80s… you just can’t kill a Honda… you will never go wrong with one

I agree with all your points! I have always been a Honda guy…first with a CT 110 I bought when I was just out of college, then a CB750( the first super bike), then an ACE 750 years late, and a Goldwing1800 during my touring years, then, and this sounds crazy, a new 2017 Ruckus…white with red seat. No mods to the engine, but I did mount a carrier rack on the back, plastic saddle bags with turn signals, and gravel guards on the headlights. I just passed the 6000 mile mark. Fair weather rider only now as I am 73 years old. It has never failed to start….a couple of years back I added a battery tender and keep it on it over the winter. More fun to ride than every bike I ever had other than the CT 110, and I consider them equal. In my state, no tag required and no insurance, no registration with state, so no gov’t hassle…not even listed on my tax assessment! Ha ha. Always kept under roof so paint looks new!
Forgot to add, top speed is 37 and getting 90 mpg hauling my 200 lbs. around!

I get about 100 miles to the tank, top speed about 37, already 7,000 miles and am 6’2” about 235 lbs. here in Florida you have to have regular car license and a plate is required, insurance is optional but I have liability just in case. On good sunny ☀️ days, my means of transportation to work and around town. It’s very fun to ride it. Occasionally I get here and there some impatient drivers tailgating cause they have to drive at 70 in a 35 mph zone. Offcourse it’s never been ridden on the highway only local town roads

Been looking at the Ruck for a while, I'm dead set on getting one and keeping it mostly stock. Brought up I wanted to get one to someone that rides a full dresser Harley and yeah the Ruck gets respect from serious bikers.

I have owned a Harley 53 years, rode serious for a few years when young & my current is an 02 Ultra with 158k on 2nd motor which I bought new. Now at age 70 the Harley is a pain in the azz to ride around town especially in summer with the heat off the motor. My 2022 Ruckus is the same fun I had as a 12 year old with a mini-bike only street legal. I have gotten into performance & it will cruise 44/46 flat road & reach 49 on a 2 mile stretch. As for respect from Harley riders ? The VAST MAJORITY of them are Weekenders/Posers/Pretenders. I refer to them mainly as Harley Motorcycle Owners. Had 1 make a comment in front of a few, my reply was "you likely don't have balls large enough to ride a tiny scooter". Happened when I rode to the local Harley dealer to pick up a part ordered for the Ultra. I'm a decades known while he was a Poser.
When buddies ask me why I bought it, I tell them 106mpg & its fun.
I was thinking about getting the Honda Ruckus or the Honda Metropolitan scooter I went with a Honda Metropolitan scooter because it has more storage it goes just as fast plus the Honda Metropolitan is fuel injected where the Ruckus is carbureted and it was also $400 cheaper so the Honda Metropolitan was the best choice I ever made I will buy it again in a heartbeat I love this little bike
I have a 2009 I bought brand new in 2011 when they weren't making them anymore. Only problem was the fuel pump went out 3 years ago. Bought a cheepo on amazon and it just now went out. My fault for buying cheap aftermarket. Care for that little Honda engine and it'll run forever.

Bought a 2020 ruckus with 240km on odometer about 2-3 months ago its bone stock all i added was under seat storage and some vinyl stickets its now got almost 1400km on odometer and its the funnest little giggle machine i ever rode

I just called my dealer. $2,899 plus tax, n tags and whatever else they add, and it’s $3,900 out the door. Luckily I just found one with low mileage for 2k. It’s a black 2018. Works out cause not digging the 2022 colors.

I understand your enthusiasm and love for the bike. Although I had a really nice Honda A.C.E. 750 with performance exhaust and an esoteric Chinese sidecar rig, my $600.00 motorized bike with a 48cc Grubbee motor has itched my motorcycle scratch for over 10 years now:)-John in Texas

Honda Zoomers are as rare as hen’s teeth in Scotland, however I do find I get more nods and waves from “big bikers” than I ever did on any of my old 125’s 👍

A possible video: how to load your Ruckus! I use mine for errands around town, and have different "load plans" based on what I want to do / get. Or maybe a video on your favorite accessories. I have an underseat bag on mine which is really helpful.
I have a front tube bag on the small front rack, handy for glasses and gloves, an under seat bag, for my first aid kit, lock and chain, and poncho, and the larger back rack, with a folding carrier box mounted for groceries, also hard plastic side bags on the back, for my tool kit, and gasoline 1.5 liter bottle, in case I do not quickly find a station when the orange warning low gas light comes on.

The best thing about the Honda Ruckus is you just get insurance for like $10 or $20 less or more per month get a license plate a tag whatever and you don't even need a motorcycle license for it depending on where you live in California is pretty much the only place you need a M1 license but that's bullshit but everything else it's just amazing

Had my zoomer since 2014, don't use it much coz it's only 27mph and can be scary on big roads, but now UK have altered highway code to make bigger vehicles take more responsibility and care around smaller transport vessels it should be better, I also have a ZX9R Ninja and at one point I was thinking of selling one (the ZX9R) and no one understood why I would sell a 900 ninja over a 50cc scooter, I think anyone on here reading this might understand!? A few people either not into bikes or have owned a Chinese scooter was shocked the price I paid for it, but 8 years later since covid and talk of going electric, they seem to go for almost twice as much, I didn't buy it for profit anyway, I hope to keep it as long as I live, but unfortunately it's stored in a damp place and deteriorated somewhat 😥
I’m about to start this journey
Bought a 2013 last month and have put over 500 miles on it. I paid 1800 bucks for it so both the guy who sold it and I got a good deal. Dealership (or "stealership" as my dad puts them, lol) wouldn't have given much more than a grand and I wouldn't have found it for less than 2300 at a dealership. It's stock but hauls ass at 45 before the limiter kicks in. I only weigh 145 pounds so that's probably contributing to the speed. But even then it doesn't drop below 25 going up a very steep hill near where I live. At 130+ mpg t's an awesome bike for both commuting and touring.
Get50 all day!!! Ive put more than 20k miles on my ruck. Across the years it's spent time stock, then heavily modified 50(its fun but not worth it especially cost wise) then Gy6 in many configurations. I rock the gy now, it's a blast hitting 65+ on 2 lane highways but the reliability is out the window! Don't do Gy6! I bought a 2nd ruck just to leave it stock and enjoy it the way it was meant to be!

@@booytoyy69 for reliability sake no. If you enjoy the current speed and can get around your local area with the 50cc just leave it in there.
I might suggest looking into a Chinese scoot with a gy in it if you want to tinker and play with. They can be had 2nd hand quite affordable. Found myself a 150 "tank urban touring" for 120bux running recently.
I would be into a 50cc scooter 🛵 (my friends’ and my grocery store are all under 5 miles away), but we have a lot of 35 mph streets around here, single lane. Do you think car drivers would be annoyed and try to run me off the road for being too slow?
@@evshrug in short: who cares about other drivers! If your obeying the law and can do the speed limit or atleast near it your fine. Only time I ever felt like I was in the way was going up big hills where I was tapped out at 25mph. Even then just pull to the side if it's an option or just ride it out if it's not. My advise would be to stay very vigilant if your the slow guy on a faster road. Stay safe and have fun!

My sister had the Honda Metropolitan and I had the Honda Ruckus in New York when I was 15 and it was 2005 or 2006 Edition I bought or 2007 whatever and my sister fell on Sand right in front of me she hit the front brakes but these Honda Ruckus is man they can go on and off road and snow ice fast as can be there the best

I really want to buy a Honda Ruckus, but I live in a third-floor apartment with an elevator. However, I'm concerned about whether there will be a gasoline smell from it 🤷🏻♂️
You can buy these online and get them delivered to your house that's what I'm saving up for and you don't have to worry about used vehicles and their nasty Vents and just have fun you can go anywhere you want
I purchased mine brand new at a Florida Honda dealer. It sat for a year and the gas went stale. I took it to a mechanic and he cleaned the carb. He also replaced the jet because he told me the factory jet was for higher altitudes. He told me my local Honda dealer gets most of there Hondas from a retailer somewhere in Colorado. I wasn't looking to modify my scooter but it does run better. Don't know if what the mechanic says is true or not but he does good work and much much cheaper than the local Honda dealer.

I’ve had mine for a little over a year and I can pretty much cruise every backroad in CT. Mine goes 45 but then again it’s got bolt ons

The modification of the ruckus drives me insane. If you want a faster bike don’t buy a 50cc. Honda engineers have designed these things to maximize reliability and commute ability, thinking you can improve that is ridiculous.
But it’s fun to do it

It must have alot of milage on it then if it's 2009. It's hard to believe but couple people said they got over 20,000 on a ruckus. Only 50 cc motor. Must be reliable.

If we all got Honda Ruckus has it's so much fun oh my God and they're so cheap you could even do payments it's a little less or more than $3,000 for a brand new one but it's worth it but any kind of Transportation either way it's a metropolitan or whatever if it gets you from a b to a again or wherever you want to go it's good and they're all reliable very very reliable and if you want to kick-start their Metropolitan or the Ruckus it's one hit and it starts right up it's awesome and you could buy all the maintenance parts and everything to travel with gasoline everything
They say you only get 114 miles per tank of gas which is 1.3 gallons but you really get a 160 miles per tank which is 1.3 gallons it's amazing or approximately and it burns so clean you don't even smell any emissions no oil no gas and if anything you buy a muffler for 20 or 30 bucks online or whatever Parts you need for so cheap by everything extra have in stock

It's the easiest moped I think you get on and drive and you can literally freaking go anywhere I swear to God you can even get a pass for the beach and go on the beach with it and it's only like $3,000 brand new and I would always buy brand new that's what I'm going to do I'm going to buy a moped and drive it everywhere everybody should but this Honda Ruckus is the best one ever
Expect a "sticker price" of around $2,800 & an "out the door price " of about $4,200 🙄,, BUT, excellent bike ✌️
whaaaaaat?!?!? really?! I just checked Hondas site last night and I saw a price of a brand new unit of $2800 and a $200 delivery fee. Does it really end up costing 4k?

@@JustinCasanova he probably got taken to the cleaners by the dealer. Warranty, “under coating”, maintenance package, etc…. All completely unnecessary but the dealers push them hard and some people just can’t say no.

You can do a lot of upgrades to make the scoot look Cooool. Stuff like increasing the length, putting a Fat tire on the rear, dropping the seat height, and putting regular handlebars on. Calling everybody MAN as in Hey Man. But keep the engine stock and she will not fail you.
What’s a good place to get a used cheap model? I am a college student.
I love the Ruckus But I'm a little hesitate because it has a carburetor. After selling my last bike i vowed
never to get another carbureted bike again. Any issues especially after letting it sit in the cold months ?
I put an electric charger/battery stabilizer on mine in the winter months and it fires right up every time! Still stock battery, bought new in 2017.
My bf just traded his laptop for a 09 ruckus and he loves it so far he wants to teach me to ride it

Out of all the scooters I would always recommend this one if you are going to get a scooter. but for me personally I wouldn’t drive one in that city or really any city just for safety, I only really ride in beach towns or farm towns where traffic is very low, I’ve seen to many people get hurt in hectic places on motorcycles and scooters, totally up to you though and I hope this helps!

Noticed you continually advocated "stock" Ruckus as dependable while the Ruckus you are showing has its airbox eliminated & an open filtered intake.
This means at the very least your carb jets have been changed to accommodate an increased air flow in which is curious without also increasing the air flow out in the exhaust.
My Ruckus is very dependable, it is a full Stage 2 plus a performance carb & clutch. I went EVI instead of CDI for reasons of reliability & ability to use the stop switch.
I have built dragsters both 4 & 2 wheel so I am more than adept at increasing performance without sacrificing reliability within the confines of the power plant which in this case is the 49cc GET motor.
My Ruckus appears close to stock plus a solid rear carrier which is used often to transport small items & a blackout windscreen used to create a laminar instead of turbulant flow aerodynamically. My weight over curb on the bike is approx 230lbs so I upgraded the rear shock also. I can easily cruise at speeds up to 45mph around city streets flat land at sea level not wind aided.
The very reason guys experience problems is the lack of an actual plan which is knowledge based & unreal over reaching expectations.
Upgrades which will improve performance without reducing reliability are:
1- single wire lawnmower type tach - necessary to tune
2- Iridium spark plug
3- Variator & lightened drive face
4- variator sliders
5- kevlar belt
6- street tires
7- performance clutch (especially if above curb weight exceeds 220lbs)
8- same size performance carb (stock carb is tuned to squeeze out maximum gas mileage)
Is this an excellent choice for a beginner no experience scooter driver, plus Im a small 4' 11" in height lol
What’s the top speed?
Would it be comfortable for a tall person I’m 6”5?
For someone 6”5 by best guess would be 35-40, I go about 40-42 BUT with a huge winter coat about 35-40 so I assume that drag may be similar and noticeable for both, with the wind behind you or down hill I bet 40 though, hope that helps!
Top speed isn't all that useful unless your area is totally flat. Think about the hills.. you'll be limited to 20-25 in most cases. Sure it'll crest 40 downhill but you gotta get back up sometime. IMO, a 50cc is ok for roads with a Max of 30, maybe 35mph. Distance is whatever you can handle but from someone who's owned scooters and mopeds for 20 years, they're terrifying if you can't keep up with the flow of traffic. People tend to be assholes to scooters. They perceive them as holding them up and will pull some shitty moves to get by. I'd want at least a 125 for a daily commuter.. 250 if you wanna do a little highway riding. Defensive driving is key when it comes to anything with two wheels though.
On a flat surface with no wind and using synthetic oil I got up to 45 mph took a little bit to get there but it got there. On a hill like 15-20

I’m looking into learning to drive a motorcycle so I’m getting an M1 License and a ruckus as soon as I can get one and then a grom and maybe something bigger I’m scared of big bikes
Riders wave to my tao tao atm50 and its been reliable for 2yrs now so fun cruise at 50mph but id love to have a ruckus.
I had the 2018 model tao tao atm50 I had nothing but problems with it. Honda ruckus is the way to go

So I just got into electric scooters and my brother was telling me earlier today that I should really look into these, do I need insurance or a motorcycle license in order to ride one ?
That is a great question, every state or country is different. I live in Connecticut and all you need is a drivers license, no registration or motorcycle license but MOST states are much more strict. you should be able to google your states scooter laws to find it out pretty quickly, sorry I couldnt be more help, thanks!

Most states don't require a motorcycle endorsement but you'll need everything else that you would for a car. (Reg.. $5 for three years in Colorado, insurance.. usually ~100/year and a drivers license). Just go for the mc license though. It's not a big deal. I've owned a ruckus but definitely ended up with a lemon. Needed constant valve adjustments. I ride a rebel250 around now and love it. It's fast enough to get anywhere but you can still rev out the first 2-3 gears around town without actually speeding lol. Has also been completely reliable for the two years and 10k miles I've put on it. Hasn't needed anything but oil changes and maybe $300 worth of standard crap.. new tire, battery, ECT. Barely more complicated than a lawnmower as well.
I have a 2018 ruckus and it’s been sitting a year and a half. battery issues ( replaced and attached battery maintenance device. Now it wont start after 2 years of non- winterized gas and sputters. Ive seen videos on fixing/ replacing parts. Do you have an idea how much money would a dealer/ garage charge to clean and replace parts?
Just replace the gas and take the carb apart, soak it, clean the injectors, etc. My dad has a honda 250 he bought new in 1982 and he has to deal with that all the time because he lets it sit too much. Start using Stabile in the gas if it's going to sit and let it run till it dies if there is a way to cut off the gas supply before it sits awhile. Fill it up only a little at a time and cycle the gas through the tank every few months, etc. or drive it more.
Just out of curiosity, does your ruckus’ light dim at lower RPMs? Like a at stop? Then, once you get going again the light back up?
Great question, mine does do that and I think it’s normal because the engine is making more electricity when it’s at higher RPMs

I got a Grom and a Big Ruckus. Love both. But my little Ruckus is the most fun. Sort of like having 3 girlfriends. Out of the 3 you're going to have a favorite.
