I have been looking for a great tutorial for the galaxy resin charms. This is fantastic. I didn't have transparency film or a laser printer so I used waterslide decal paper and put it on laminating sheets and then cut them out.
Appreciate you sharing your ideas and experiences. So far I have only cast small pieces so even the cabs were larger than my mold, but it is good to know what has happened as you have tried to make these amazing cabochons! They are beautiful!
+Jeff Blatter Thank you. 😊 Casting is super addictive and all sizes of molds are fun to play with. Its interesting to see how different sized print outs/embedments look in diff size molds. If you use CC7000, I hope it works great for you, I just have such a hard time with it. 😊
Love the galaxy 🌌 design cabochon! Galaxy is one of my fave images as I love looking into space. You've made them very well. I'll think of trying to make one as I love to make a ring of some sort. Thanks for sharing this awesome tutorial of yours! I give this a like and fave.😄
No problem. Like I said in description, if CC7000 works for you, by all means keep using it. 😊 It gets rave reviews but I can't seem to get it to work for me at all. Thanks for watching/commenting. 😊
+CertainlyCaroline Hi! Other brands are Amazing Clear Cast (found at craft stores), Famowood (found at Lowes hardware), Envirotex Lite (also found at hardware stores and craft stores), and Amazon has diff brands of epoxy resin. I primarily use East Coast Resin (either the table top or non table top resin...both cure clear but table tops formula cures a little harder) found at www.eastcoastresin.com. Hope that helps. 😊
There's a great trick you can do with car spray paints, drop water droplets on a surface and then spray over with a can, it leaves droplet traces, might look really effective under resin like water droplets, they do it on custom cars. maybe worth looking into.
Love the look of those! I started using CC7000 in Oct. last year and loved it, but by the middle of Dec., I couldn't get it to act right for the life of me! I am hoping it's the temp./humidity thing that screwed me up 'cause now the house is staying at a more consistant temp. in WI. Somewhere I read that it needs 77 degrees or above to cure properly along with moderate humidity. I need a resin that won't yellow over time, like CC7000 provides.
Hi! Im sorry CC7000 is giving you issues. Ive tried everything under the sun to get it to work and just no luck for me. After trying a bunch of resins, Ive found East Coast resin to be the brand for me. There is a new brand out called Liquid Diamonds... have heard good reviews but have not personally tried it. There is a channel called "That Thing You Do" and she reviews/casts a whole slew of resins and even has a second video where she tests the UV resistance on all of the brands she casted. Thanks for watching and good luck with your resin crafting. 😊
That's the video I watched to get me to try CC7000! Susan Boots-Putman belongs to a resin group and she's the one that does these videos. I used to belong to that group also, but I kept having so much trouble, I decided to put resin on the back burner. Hopefully, the weather will be on my side and I'll give it another go.
Her channel is called That thing you do review. I checked out the Liquid Diamonds review and read the comments. Some people are having the same issues of cloudiness on the top layer even without using a lighter to pop bubbles. One of the problems with CC7000.
Those are very neat! Have you tried Art Resin. You can get it from Amazon and it is designed for artist. It sets up slower and doesn't seem as volatile as the one you used. Anyway the space images with glitter for stars is out of this world!😁
Thank you for the explanation of this brand of resin. Do you suppose that you could get the same effect with a 1 part UV resin by doing it several pours?
I saw the mold and debated it...I waited until I truly needed a domed cabochon mold....and I shouldn't have waited. It really is a great mold and so solid! Only downfall is the price tag. Lol
First of all, really gorgeous results! Second of all, I'm wondering if you ever went back with a different type of resin in your molds. I ask because I only use ice resin, and I get the very same steaming effect with those types of molds. I didn't buy my mold from Ice resin, I bought it from a different company but it looks very very similar. I really don't like those types of molds! And if you use a torch the resin tends to merge with the mold, and you'll never ever get the resin off.
Moogie hiya. I have used diff resins in the molds since. Silicone or ldpe mold should have no effect on resin cure. Resin cures bc of a thermal reaction between the two parts. I believe I had these results bc of a bad batch (which had been produced by the company a few years ago) or my ambient temp was to high and caused resin to react quicker. I've never had good results w clearcast 7000 regardless of mold, pour amount, ambient temps, etc. My go to resin is East Coast Resin. 😉 in the event that you use a torch w silicone and merge the silicone w the resin, I suggest using and exacto knife to scrape silicone off and then sand. Works like a charm. 😉
These are awesome and such a great idea I am trying to figure out what transparencies you used for this. Any chance you could provide me with a link?? Thank you!
Very cool. I like how the black on the back blends with the black unpainted edges of the film. Never thought to print something onto transparency. Love the effect. Wondering what you ended up doing with them. I think they would have made awesome drawer and cabinet nobs for your little one's bedroom, if he/she was into the images used back when you made them. Or for your craft room? Not sure how you'd attached the screw once it cured though. TFS!
Michelle's Paper Creations Thank you. 😊 I turned some of these into magnets for a board in my son's room. 😊 For making nobs, I would suggest gluing onto first cured layer and then pouring background layer. I have examples of nobs on my Instagram. 😉 Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy crafting!
You could drill a hole at any side you wish if using an eye screw or you could use a glue on bail (secure bail to back of piece with either glue or a touch more resin). :)
I enjoyed your video. I also have the same mold and use it for steampunk cabochons. I would like to use pictures like you did. Would you mind sharing the sizes of the circles in the template you used? Thanks
Carla Szczuka Hi! For the larger domes, I used 1 & 3/4". For the smaller, I eyeballed a semi smaller size so picture didn't not meet edge of mold cavity (I wanted a border so it blended w background better). Hope that makes sense. 😉
Absolutely beautiful. I'm wondering though, if you paint one side of the transparency sheet white and the use a black background, do you think it would be almost identical to using a sealed photo print? Thanks for sharing your talent 😊
+Lani Haskins Thank you! 😊 I think it would be similar. For this I wanted to use the transparency film so I could have a little more control in blending the edges of the picture into the black back layer...that and I try to avoid sealing papers when possible..I'm lazy that way! Lol 😉 If using a printed photo on normal paper/photo paper, I'm guessing the use of a photo editing program to "feather" or fade the edges of the photo would work (at least that's how I would go about it for the blending/fade effect). Thanks for watching/commenting. 😊
Cathy holmes You could use a printed pic instead. Test your printed material for "water staining" though. Some photo papers don't need to be sealed prior to using in resin but a lot of papers do require sealing. Hold a test piece under water...if it gets a stained look, you will need to seal it before placing in resin. 😉
Margarita Zambrana Hola!
Amazing creations you come up with. it's inspiring! You've probably been asked this question a lot. Where did you get that mold. I've searched for it on etsy and couldn't find it :(
What is the shelf life for East Cost Resin? I bought another brand, didn't get to use it and when I went to use it after a year of purchase, the resin was cloudy. Shelf life of resin I bought was 1 yr!
+Kristen Ho Hi Kristen. I believe it is a one year life span. I've always used mine within 6 months of purchase though. I have emailed the company to ask them and will reply again when I get a response so I'm not giving any wrong info. 😊
Cute! I’m going to try it. But I have a question, you were putting the white paint over the picture side don’t you want to put the white paint on the back of the picture?
Hi! White paint was applied to the backside of the print (matte printed side). I kept the front (glossy) side unpainted. I just prefer to paint over the printed side. 😊
You will need transparency film specific to inkjet (can be found on Amazon) and then allow to thoroughly dry (10+ min). I would do a test piece to see if sealing would be needed after drying (inkjet tends to bleed).
This brand heats up quickly, as the pot life is very short. I am not sure how long you mixed, but it looks like you kept mixing after it had gone completely clear, and you mixed a pretty large size batch. That's why it melted your sticker and had that weird effect (steamy marks).
Hello! You're right, I did pour/mix large batches at 4oz (2oz each substance). But these results happen to me regardless of amount I pour...I'm typically using 1/2oz combined when making charms etc. :( I always mix a minimum of 3 minutes and extend to 5 if needed for larger batches as per CC7000 instructions. I have a real love/hate relationship with this resin. I love it for its viscosity and clarity and hate for the inconsistency with curing no matter the mixed amount. Supposedly there was a formula change in 2015? I've not confirmed that but it's what I see/hear in resin forums. I've not had these issues w any other brands I've used and I so wish I could get CC7000 to work but be it be user error, ambient temps/humidity, or whatever I gotta stick w what I know. If you have the secret please let me know. :)
+GrimmsCraftingTales yes, there was a bad batch sent out and I had one, which made me hate this brand. I could not get it to work right no matter what I did. I was sent a replacement and it has been my go to brand since then. I mix small batches of about 30 ml (total of both parts) and mix until completely clear. The chemist behind this brand has mentioned that there is a learning curve to get this resin to work, and what works for one person may not work for another.
+MissCannibella Knowing that bad batches were sent out, I may give it another shot...I still do want to get this resin to work BC of its clarity. That being said though, I still can't go wrong with East Coast resin. Thanks for the info and glimmer of hope! 😊
+GrimmsCraftingTales the bad batches were sent out last year (around April), so they've hanged their formula a bit to get better results. Out of all the casts I've done, they all cure solid in about 6 hours and are completely clear. You just gotta work with it and find out which way works best for you.
The Wingless one Fowler I make my own cabochons, so I do t have a direct glass cabochon shop that I can suggest off hand. I would suggest doing a search on Etsy, Amazon, beads.com, pandahall.com, or fire mountain gems.com 😊
When resin is completely cured you can paint the back w acrylic paint or even use the acrylic paint to tint wet resin (a lot of paint used when resin is wet might affect the curing though). Hope that helps. 😊
Dua Batool Yes you can. Some photo papers do not need to be sealed but most print papers will need to be sealed before placing into resin or you will get "water stains". Transparency film, such as used in this video, will not need to be sealed. 😊
Sovanndeth Huot The brand used in this video is ClearCast 7000. Can be bought online. The brand I suggest using is East Coast Resin found at www.eastcoastresin.com. 😊
Amy Annunziata Epoxy resin can be purchased online, in craft stores, and home hardware stores. Epoxy resin comes in a variety of ratio mixtures. 1:1 ratios are great for beginners. 😊 If you're in the States, you can print images via a Kinkos, local print shops, or retail chains (Costco, Walgreen's, etc). 😊
Felicitas Bussola I used opaque black resin pigment from Casting Craft. can be found online or craft stores. You can also use black glitter, black pigment powders, black eye shadow, etc. If using acrylic paint, it may not let your piece cure fully depending on how much acrylic paint you use. Hope that helps. 😉
Hello! I was wondering how you print these images? I tried to find a way and I’m coming up at a loss... do you use vellum? And what type of printer should I look for? I looked at laser printers but I don’t know if they are all waterproof or not! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hello! Using a laser printer is your safer bet bc the toner will be waterproof. Ink jet ink bleeds. I used transparency film to print on (think old school overhead projector sheets). Transparency film can be found online (cheapest route) or at local office supply stores. If you have access to a Kinkos store, they can also print on transparency film for you utilizing laser printer. If you only have an ink jet printer, there are transparency films specific for ink jets (found on amazon), but you must let the ink dry for atleast 10 min before placing in resin (and some bleed still happens in my experience). Hope that helps.
Epoxy resin will not stain/water mark transparency film. No need for sealing. Be aware though that I used a laser jet printer for the film...I have used film specific for ink jet printers in the past, without sealing, but the images aren't as crisp and the colors bleed slightly. Hope that helps. 😊
Edna Rouse Thanm you. 😊 Its transparency film purchased via Amazon. Transparency film can also be found at office supply stores. 😊 I used a laser printer. There are films specific to inkjet, if that's what you have, but print quality in my opinion is not as great and you need to allow for extra dry time before putting in the resin. Hope that helps! 😉
These look absolutely gorgeous! I'm just starting out with resin and I looooove these.
I have to say I bookmarked this video and became a subscriber. I watch this over and over because it is such a great tutorial.
+SaveOurWater Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy it. 😊
The pieces you showed us are ALL beautiful.
I have been looking for a great tutorial for the galaxy resin charms. This is fantastic. I didn't have transparency film or a laser printer so I used waterslide decal paper and put it on laminating sheets and then cut them out.
I still see such beautiful pieces, regardless of your issues with that particular resin. Xx
Appreciate you sharing your ideas and experiences. So far I have only cast small pieces so even the cabs were larger than my mold, but it is good to know what has happened as you have tried to make these amazing cabochons! They are beautiful!

Complimenti veramente MOLTO, MOLTO BELLO e molto chiaro nelle spiegazioni
These are so awesome!!! And you know what, I kinda like the look of the bubbles in them!
+Joanne M Thank you. 😀
Thank you for sharing your evaluation of the resin that was used for the projects. Helpful.
No problem. Like I said in description, if CC7000 works for you, by all means keep using it. 😊 It gets rave reviews but I can't seem to get it to work for me at all. Thanks for watching/commenting. 😊
I liked the resin evaluation too. Wondering what brand others around here use.

You'll love it looks so good!

these are gorgeous!! they would make great jewellery
I like very much and found very good lesson and idea to make these marvelous jewelry stones. Thanks very much
Mohamed Ayaz Shaikh Thank you. Glad it helped. 😉
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! And so creative! I like the way you did your tutorial too. Very clear and easy to understand! Thank you.
+Wayne Countryman Thank you! 😀
What the plastic sheet you printed on called ?
Oh, great work, could you tell me the process you do for printing? I tried, no success, ty :)
Sooo awesome! I've been eyeing that mold for a while! Those galaxy pieces are awesomeness
I saw the mold and debated it...I waited until I truly needed a domed cabochon mold....and I shouldn't have waited. It really is a great mold and so solid! Only downfall is the price tag. Lol
Yeah thats a big reason why I haven't jumped on board yet with it. It does look very nice.

Thanks! Will check it out.
Your Instagram link not working. Found your page via search. Thanks.
Bem bonita a sua resina de galáxia gostei muito😊😊😊ficou linda mesmo 😊😊😊parabéns por ter feito isso continue assim 😉😉😉.
Great ideas thank you.. But i have a question plz answer me...
If i wanted to tern this into necklace or pendent.. Where can I drill them🙄💔
You could drill a hole at any side you wish if using an eye screw or you could use a glue on bail (secure bail to back of piece with either glue or a touch more resin). :)
Is there anything that can be done to prevent the steamy air bubbles or melting from the resin overheating?
They turned out so incredibly beautiful!!

Your casts look amazing. If you look up Brendon Stemp he has great tutorials on resin casting. He is a wood turner but does a lot of resin work also.
Love your work. Where do you get the clear paper?
I SO need to make some of these. so beautiful!
Just wondering if using a simple printed pic would work the same as using the transparency... i love these. TY
Hola. Que resina usas. Con que le das color. Y como haces las laminas? Gracias
Margarita Zambrana Hola!
GrimmsCraftingTales gracias!!
Love these. What is the thing that you measured the holes with before you cut the pictures out? Also where did you get it? Thanks
Think they turned out beautiful
Might do something like this with my UV resin eventually
love the cabs👍enjoy the learning process too☺what is the name of your musical soundtrack? very zen-like; makes me want to listen to it all day😊.
Roberta Vann Thank you. 😊 Music information is in the description box above. 😉
What will you do with those?
you printed galaxy image on clear Film? what type of printer need to do it?
Amazing creations you come up with. it's inspiring! You've probably been asked this question a lot. Where did you get that mold. I've searched for it on etsy and couldn't find it :(
I love that. Where did you get all the photos of the galaxies? Thank you for a great video 💕🌿
Beautiful pieces!! thank you for sharing all information
+julliana2ify Thank you. 😊My pleasure to share the info. 😊
Awesome, the one at 11:11 is my favorite! I would make them into magnets 🙂
awesome video. what printer do you recommend?
Wow, they look amazing😃 Thank you for sharing 😁
Beautiful, have you tried with different colour backgrounds? I was thinking of a midnight blue? Would it work. Thank you so much for sharing
I love the look of this! Awesome!
cómo puedo convertir domos como estos en charms para collares?
how i can converted domos like this un charms for neklaces?
what do you make out of them?
Just beautiful

lovely soundtrack
fantástico tutorial
Lost in galaxy.....love.
just a correction:
Das malefits is from a band called "Faunts"
Love this! Where can you get the galaxy pictures laser printed on transparent film from?
Fangirl Academy I printed these at home on my laser printer. Otherwise, can upload to a local kinkos to print. 😉
where i can find this things pleaaaase, i AM From Algérie
so this with 3D fractal patterns (or 2d)
I so wanna try this
Love this! I'm wondering whether you used a laser or inkjet printer.
I see you had a print out of a pokeball, would you use the same process?
You could def do the same process for a pokeball print out. 😊
anyone know what these products are called and where to get from in UK?

Do you know any arts and cafes stores that sells glass cabochons , because I am working a project that reacquires them .
The Wingless one Fowler I make my own cabochons, so I do t have a direct glass cabochon shop that I can suggest off hand. I would suggest doing a search on Etsy, Amazon, beads.com, pandahall.com, or fire mountain gems.com 😊
Very cool! I am just starting out, so this may be a silly question, but where do you get the pictures/photos you used?
+Oxana124 Not silly! :) I just googled "Hubble Telescope", "NASA Pictures", and "Outerspace" and picked whichever images I liked. :)
oh I see! Thank you!
Wow... Beautiful! ❤️
Very clever! They came out stunning!!
Thanks 😊❤
If I were to use the white acrylic on any image that has been printed, the way these have, does the colour pop still happen?
matt l If printed on transparency film, yup color pop should still happen. 😉
perhaps the plastic you used created some chemical reaction to the resin?
Very beautiful, great job :)
Can i use black acrylpaint on the back of the resin ?
When resin is completely cured you can paint the back w acrylic paint or even use the acrylic paint to tint wet resin (a lot of paint used when resin is wet might affect the curing though). Hope that helps. 😊
Can i use my own pics in this accept galaxy pictures ?
Dua Batool Yes you can. Some photo papers do not need to be sealed but most print papers will need to be sealed before placing into resin or you will get "water stains". Transparency film, such as used in this video, will not need to be sealed. 😊
So all cutouts should be on photo paper?
Darlene Johnson I used transparency film. If you use photo paper, check to see if it needs to be sealed or not (might get a "water stain" effect).
What is the name of the resin? where to buy the resin?
Sovanndeth Huot The brand used in this video is ClearCast 7000. Can be bought online. The brand I suggest using is East Coast Resin found at www.eastcoastresin.com. 😊
Thoes are so pretty! I wanna make a few but i'm not really sure where i'd get Resin and i don't have a printer.
Craft stores Amy. I heard someone mention Hobby Lobby, I'm in Canada so you can search on Internet. Luck g/f :).
Beautiful ! Thanks for sharing
Mind blowing pretty
what do you mix the resin with to make it black??
Felicitas Bussola I used opaque black resin pigment from Casting Craft. can be found online or craft stores. You can also use black glitter, black pigment powders, black eye shadow, etc. If using acrylic paint, it may not let your piece cure fully depending on how much acrylic paint you use. Hope that helps. 😉
Awesome video, love the results. Nikki
Thank you. 😀
Where did you get the black opaque resin? Did you make it?
Jackie Brown Can The resin was tinted w opaque black resin pigment from Casting Craft. 😊
Gorgeous😍
since these were printed on film vs paper did you not need to seal them?
Epoxy resin will not stain/water mark transparency film. No need for sealing. Be aware though that I used a laser jet printer for the film...I have used film specific for ink jet printers in the past, without sealing, but the images aren't as crisp and the colors bleed slightly. Hope that helps. 😊
These look amazing! Where did you get the images?
OrangeTabbyCat I googled Hubble telescope images. 😊
Não entendi pra quê o fogo?🤔😊
Very nice.
I’m confused I thought you painted the pictures you put in the resin?
I printed them on transparency film and painted the backs white so as to make the colors pop more w a black resin backing.
How silly of me ,lol thanks for explaining
@@bev2hawky not silly. No worries. 😊
These look great. What/where did get the film you used to print out the Hubble pictures? And what kind of printer did you print them on?
Edna Rouse Thanm you. 😊 Its transparency film purchased via Amazon. Transparency film can also be found at office supply stores. 😊 I used a laser printer. There are films specific to inkjet, if that's what you have, but print quality in my opinion is not as great and you need to allow for extra dry time before putting in the resin. Hope that helps! 😉
Yes, thank you! :)
