I noticed that this video is a couple of years old, but I just saw it for the first time and wanted to say that these are amazing! Such a beautiful design, full of depth and just sheer beauty! Congratulations for coming up with something unique and wonderful!
Money is tight so I was wondering if you could tell me the diameter of the cabochon so I could purchase it elsewhere before I get the bracelet. Thank you. Oh btw lovely designs you have. I'll be using it to match the resin color in my wizard staff...
Hi Sandra! Thank you. 😊 I got the bracelet blanks at Michaels Craft Store. I linked them in the description above. 😊 Hope that helps and let me know how it goes if you try this. 😊
I have been using chemset resin and although it cures beautifully clear, it yellows over time. I think it's the hardener rather than the resin. Do you know if you can cross mix same-ratio resins/hardeners? Does the East Coast resin stay nice and clear?
Hello. I have never cross mixed brands but I imagine that while it might work okay at first, I'm not sure of what long term effects would be because of different chemical composition w each brand. I personally wouldn't recommend it. As for UV yellowing, thats a bummer for sure. Epoxy resin will always yellow over time as its not UV proof but some good resistant brands are East Coast Resin, Clear Cast, Little Windows, and some marine epoxy resins. East Coast resin has stayed pretty clear. They formulated their resins to help resist UV yellowing. Compared to Envirotex, Famowood, and Clear Cast 7000, I would def go w East Coast Resin for non yellowing. Polyester resins (while stinky and longer cure) have great UV resistance and better clarity (in my opinion) Hope that helps and best of wishes on your crafting. 😊
GrimmsCraftingTales That's very helpful, thanks :) I think I'll check out the Polyester resins as I really need that crystal clear non-yellowing finish.
I usually use little windows or art resin, and have found them to be pretty good about not yellowing after they are cured. They can be pricey, but they are definitely a good quality epoxy resin. Just make sure you don't purchase more than you can use in a 6 month period because the hardener will start to yellow.
Thank you. 😊 For white and black pigment, I use Castin Craft opaque liquid pigments specific for resin. Alumilite opaque liquid pigments work well too. Hope that helps. 😊
You can also use acrylic paints, and there are many companies who make resin pigments (Artisue, Le Rez Expressions, Just Resin, Resin Obsession and Stone Coat to name a few). You can also use pigment powders/mica powders, which work wonderfully and have either a metallic or pearlescent quality to them. Never use more than 10% of any type of pigment to color your resin though! It can affect the curing of the resin easily, and ruin your hard work.
Anna Tsoukala Not silly at all. Resin is a toxic material/classified irritant until it is cured/inert. Resin can be an allergen to some people. Wearing nitrile gloves and a mask rated for organic fumes is always recommended.
Some resin is worse than others....please do the research on the.product you are using. The type used here is Non-toxic but may cause an allergic reaction in some people. Most resins are pretty safe, but some are NOT, and require gloves and the use of a mask at all times until cured!
Anna Tsoukala, there are different types of resins, like Poly ester, poly urethane, and poly epoxy, to name a few. All are types of plastics, and all are glues. Even within those different types, there are different types...you are using epoxy resin here, and a very safe one at that. I have 4 different brands of epoxy resin in my home now, only 2 are considered unharmful, due to the fact that they have NO VOC's (volatile organic compounds), which means no smell, no additives and don't require a mask, although they could still be allergenic. Also, one note of caution for ALL resins.....when sanding cured resin, one must wear a mask to prevent breathing in the dust. The resin dust can be extremely harmful to the lungs, as it is just basically tiny shards of resin...like glass. It can destroy the lungs! All of that aside though, your bracelets are wonderful and unique and I hope that you still enjoy making them. I'd love to give your technique a try!
thank you so much for listing and showing what is needed sorry this is the best one Ive seen

They're beautiful! What do you use to colour your white and black resin? I'm still experimenting and haven't found the perfect material yet.

Beautiful work thanks for sharing! One silly question though, is resin toxic or can it cause allergy?? Thanks again.
