LOL the GTX 950 should've had 3 GB. 60fps 1080p low settings, Doom open gl. Then all the sudden: a random crash, while at a smooth 60 fps, and you couldn't blame ID software, because they're one of the only devs who doesn't release shitty unfinished content.
Nvidia moving to 7nm means they will be putting DDR3 on 1050 and the writing on the box showing difference will be 7nm in size so costumer can have clarity.
No, for the purpose of clarity, box will be acrylic and will have RoG branding. That will provide users with all the required transparency wrt purchase.
Hi Snowflake :~) EDIT: wow now I see how much I am going to be ripped off by, 3.50 per 4GB chunk of DDR3, yet when I go to buy some it will be costing me around £25-£35.
Although it might help a small bit in explaining the amount of money the big 3 are making hand over fist, and they claim a shortage? more like a shortage on the profit they were making. It would be great to see some more companies get into the business so they don't have monopoly anymore.
Ted Cameron who would be able to get into the GPU game now and be able to compete with green and red ? The only company that instantly comes to my mind would be Google
Well you have Intel that are selling their own "soon" and then there are others that might get into it to like google as you say.I could see Amazon having a bash at it sometime soon too, I think it would make sense for them.
Like, as if GT 1030, GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, GTX 1080 Ti wasn't enough Then we got GTX 1060 3GB Then we got GTX 1070 Ti Then we got GT 1030 DDR4 and now we have GTX 1050 3GB Seriously wtf nvidia
Tian Cilliers don't forget about the 5GB GTX 1060 that's in China. And the 2-3 (depending on if you count the starwars version) different versions of the Titan Xp.
Question: How do CPU manufacturers bin their chips before they are part of a complete package? For instance, Ryzen uses multiple chips connected with the Infinity Fabric. How are these individual chips binned?
only threadripper uses multiple chips. ryzen uses 2 ccx but on a single die. still i'd also like to know how the testing is done. do they know a die can clock to xGHz before they solder it to a package? or do they just look at the silicon and literally put the dies which have visible defects in a bin and test the finished cpus?
7:31 Guess Nvidia used the 1030's memory to boost the new 1050 and just slapped on some surplus gddr4 on to the 1030 to get rid of them before the 11xx series launches . Mystery solved :-)
No idea but I assume the answer to both questions is no . My comment was meant to be a joke , not an in deapth story on how Nvidia handled a problem they were trying to solve ;-) I doubt changing parts of a graphics card is as easy or as plug-and-play as I made it sound , especially when parts are from different generations of hardware like old gddr4 and a new gpu .
Downloaded a browser extension so that i can disable adblocker for your channel. hope it helps edit: for people asking, this is the extension github.com/x0a/UA-cam-Channel-Whitelist-for-uBlock-Origin
Man that cats are adorable. I randomly will be sitting at my PC, when I hear my cat crying on the other side of the basement just so that I''ll rub her chin, or occasionally come to me and if I stand up she'll lay down on my seat and look at me like they did nothing wrong. Somehow, watching a cat wack your script out of your hand, bite a hole in it, and walk away was so much funnier. Gotta love 'em.
Newegg 5/22/2018 $349.99 for a Zenith Extreme was a good price. Today $438/449 for a Threadripper 1900x is rediculously high. Ebay auctions are running 340/315/333 with shipping. $349.99 from a dealer for a 1900x is about right.
Ha Ha, Snowflake was amazing in this video and I'd love to see more. Already thinking of secondary channel names: Gamers Cat, Cat Nexus, GN Cat, SteveCatTips, StevezTwoCats, AwesomeCatware, Hardware Cat, Radeon Snowflake Ti OC Edition.
@aussiebear22 I have a sff optiplex and this card is in my price range (need a low profile card) any thoughts on this worth the 2gb with the better controller? This shit is confusing sometimes.
HOPEFULLY GPU PRICES WILL GO BACK TO ITS NORMAL PRICE ASAP. IT IS STARTING GO DOWN BUT ITS STILL MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ITS ORIGINAL SRP BACK WHEN IT WAS LAUNCH A FEW YEARS AGO. HOPE TO SEE THE Gtx1060 AND THE rx580 IN THE 250ish price range, gtz1050 in the 150ish, and so on and so forth for the rest, Hopefully.
I dont know if this has been discussed before but i was wondering whats the physical diferences between ram chips made by different manufacturers? Like are all DDR4 chips made in the same way by the companies or does each manufacturer have their own architecture kind of like how AMD and Intel CPU's are completely different designs but essentially do the same thing.
Snowflake is best cat. On a serious note, Nvidia needs to use an easy to understand naming scheme for these newer cards. The 3GB 1050 could be a 1050 S(uper).
I'd agree more on a 1050 R(ipoff). Both 1050's (2GB and Ti) were released October 2016. MSRP are 100/139 bucks. Should we be excited for a cut down Ti for 160 bucks? Seriously? For a board that is almost 2 years old, with just a small tweak to it?
I made the S mean super because Nvidia is more likely to use that. Can't see Nvidia using the word scam on a product. I don't disagree that the 1050 3GB is a scam, though.
Gargoyle, I totally getcha. And if you saw any ill intent in my comments, rest assured that it didnt had you as the focus of those. What you are trying to do is give good marketing ideas, that other companies have used in the past (Apple and Samsung, for instance, used the same letter scheme to set apart similar products). But they would only deserve such good will if they werent scumbags for the last couple of years, profiting severely due to the mining boom. They claimed, during all this time, that they had gamers first, always, and miners were not the focus of their product. They were caught lying. During that time, they escalated their prices to pad their earnings. Even tho show their ill intent, they released a product that could be somewhat comparable to the Ti version of that board (even tho performing less), but priced it higher that the MSRP of that board, when released. And those boards, more than likely (if reputable sources are to be believed) are part of the 300k GPUs that were returned (even tho that it has been reported that the number has gone up to nearly 1 million GPUs). And the reasons to have grievances towards NVidia (and their partners) are not just that, but after two years of watching them get away with price gauging... they dont deserve the helping hand of people, like yourself, that would throw them a bone marketingwise. Even more so when we know that this GPU sits on the bracket of budget oriented builds. I know, I'm digressing, but the real pricing for this board, taking account technology used, GPUs being released soon, and pricing MSRP for similar products would put between 120 (at best) and 80 bucks. And still make a profit. On a sidenote, if the released a 1080ti comparable board, for 400-350 bucks, and call it 1080 Scam (or even worse), people would buy it. Not because of the name, but the pricing would be right, the specs would be right, and gamers care about performance, not names. For the same reason a player would use a bright pink item with the silliest of names if the stats are right. Tldr: It's not you, it's them. Your heart is in the right place, and they dont have one. They just have a wallet.
Steve, do you think the recent announcement of investigations into price fixing between memory manufacturers has anything to do with some rumours that the fabs are seeing better production output, yields and a decrease in the memory shortage...It does seem like a odd coincidence giving the timing of these rumours..?
Hi Steve, Could you please make a video on latest eGPU solutions with a laptop that has proper eGPU implementation and proper CPU cooling? I'm asking because I see reviews all over the place, and I don't think those reviewers has the technical skills to analyze the results in depth. But I do think you have the skills, since you overclock and have a decent understanding of electrical engineering. What would be nice, is a test on different eGPU boxes with a known GPU you have already pre tested. Also comparison information about FPS, temperatures and clocks would be really nice to see. What I'm most interested in, is if PCIe 4x over Thunderbolt3 is the bottleneck and why. I know 4x vs 16x can have a big impact on performance because of bandwidth but this is not the case in all scenarios. It would be great to see what else could be the issue with these Thunderbolt3/eGPU implementations. Thank you. :)
How are Samsung, Micron and SK hynix able to produce GDDR6 at about the same time? Given that the specs are set, are the standards "that easy" to manifest as an individually researched product?
Cat love. want it and love it. thank you. edit: while in B.C could we possible get another coffee lake temps/ downhill video on the other channel please?
GTX 1050 ti 4GB is ok for most of todays games. Don't expect a 3GB version to have a long life. Sounds like Nividia is looking for a quick outlet on those left over chips.
My main question that no one really talks about is can PCIE 3.0 16x slots even handle the bandwidth of GDDR6's full speed? From what I seen of that working test of GDDR6 is that they couldn't test it in standard slots even as a proof of concept due to 288 limits, does PCIE get over these limitations? And if consumer GDDR6 ever makes it to consumer use beyond GPU's, would the 288 DIMM standard need to be changed and be more like a PCIE 3.0 slot?
Elliot Kaufman not in multi-use applications such as numerical kernels, AI, etc applications. I'm talking about lane to outside use, it's already limited past GDDR4. If 6 isn't any different (doubt it is in any significant way) then it's again kind of stuck when advancing.
PCIe 3.0 "only" goes up to 16GB per second, but that doesn't matter because the GPU core needs to read from / write to the VRAM far more often than the CPU does. The Radeon Vega 64 has a memory bandwidth of 484GB/s and it still benefits heavily from memory overclocking, because it's a bandwidth-starved card. On the other hand, being able to fill the VRAM of most graphics cards in half a second or less is more than sufficient for outside transfers.
#ASKGN why are drop in gpu die upgrades like cpu's to motherboards not a thing? What are the physical limitations with this solution for graphics upgrading
So micron drives ? Does making the actual memory mean it’s a decent part or are they cheap because they get rid of memory they couldn’t sell in their own ssds?
As if eight different laptop versions wasn't enough 1050/1050tis. If cost were not an issue, which would be better, GDDR6 or HBM2? Or do they each have different strengths and differences? Also, with regards to the "chip with an iGPU is better for rendering" thing, why was it better to go with a chip that has an iGPU, rather than just saving money and going with a lower-end chip then spending the extra money on an old GPU that's more powerful than the Intel iGPU like a GTX 770 or something?

Cat also tried to eat the show. Nearly got away with it.
Actually, she *did* get away with it.
Caturday special.
Snowflake.. use her name!! Senior AMD Correspondent... :-)
#AskGN What is the worst damage Snowflake ever caused to GN's set?
I subscribe to this question too for next ask GN!
oh this should be good. Probably still less than linus tho
seems like such a peaceful cat
More so whats the most takes Snowflakes has caused on a video? Because ya know...Cats love knocking off sheet yo. heh
Ok now i really want to know...
Senior AMD correspondant AND GN CEO? Thats some serious conflict of interests. I always knew GN were AMD shills.
:P
I think the M in AMD stands for _meow_
puertorican1 shills are life duh
American Meow Devices
Yeah but she‘s just the „American meow device“ corespondent, not jet the CEO
No, it clearly stands for

Actually NV doesn't move to 7nm. Possibly late 2019 or 2020 but not before AMD.
one guy didnt get ur sarcasm hehehhehehe it went at 300+ fps we need not freesync
Yea, Snowflake, you know we all only watch these videos to see Snowflake :)
#ASKGN Any plans to add cat toys to your growing product range?
You can just transcribe today's news show and print it out. GN's CEO already reviewed the effectiveness and gave her stamp of approval.
Make an RGB litter box and it's over.
RGB litter box, slap a NVidia sticker on it, charge it triple MSRP, ez 8 digit pay day.
Yeah, how about an RGB Laserpointer?
Because clearly we have not had enough RGB everywhere ;)
anonymousclay I'm actually a little concerned for myself as my initial reaction ,yes ,yeees an RGB litter robo is what I need in my life
Cmon steve, pet your cat. It loves you!
Cats dont love, they just want.
Pet a cat....hell no, thats just a trick they employ for the inevitable scratch
Not petting your cat is like buying a burger and removing the bread
I appreciated the cat's input. Liked
Everytime NVIDIA makes a new confusing video card, GN Cat steps in.

Anyone else notice that the video seems fairly blurry or is it just me?
The GTX 950 has 768 also so its about time they brought it to the same level as the older hardware. The 950 also had more outputs
Thanks for the vid! .. FYI.. probably know but.. your cam was blurry/out of focus at the start.
So.. the 1050-3GB is just a 1050ti with a defective memory controller channel?

danman1012 what? GDDR is on the Graphics Card and talks directly to the GPU core. Moder GPU's don't saturate PCI-E 3.0 x16
Elliot Kaufman not in multi-use applications such as numerical kernels, AI, etc applications. I'm talking about lane to outside use, it's already limited past GDDR4. If 6 isn't any different (doubt it is in any significant way) then it's again kind of stuck when advancing.
