i think the dogs eating dogs EP was better than most of neighborhoods, so if you evaluate both efforts as an entity, i think i'd say i like dogs eating dogs better
Dude ranch was their best Album. Everything was downhill after that. It's cool that enema made lots of money with mainstream kids that listened to whatever was on their TV, but that was really more about being in the right place at the right time. It was so over produced that none of the songs sounded genuine and came off as being corny. Their brand of self loathing humor didn't quite hit the mark like the older stuff. But hey, the herd masses loved it and they put on a great live show so it wasn't all bad. 😉
Thanks so much for this interview! I haven't seen any interview before where Tom seems so down to earth and cohesive in his replies. Him explaining what he wanted blink to be was a real eye opener when he gave more backstory into what this meant to him.
You can tell Neighborhoods was Tom's direction for Blink. It had the sound and appeal. Unfortunately, the time wasn't right and alot of people disliked it. As an AVA fan, i loved the album.

That's one aspect I miss about having Tom in blink. Tom always had an idea of where he wanted to go. Mark and Travis never really had an idea of how they wanted to evolve. _Maybe_ they do now since they're finally experimenting but I feel like Tom just always knows what he wants to do and does it really well.
He was ruining the band, I understand why it caused a Rift. The best part about punk is that it stays punk. All the heavy drug use was taking him down a different path. Hopefully they'll do a reunion tour once day. But he just lost that talent part of his brain and people don't come back from that. On the plus side tho, Matt Skiba is one of the best lyricists of all time, so hopefully the new blink album will reflect that. I hope Mark let's him contribute

I started really listening to Blink 182 in 2002. I was 12 at the time. I then got Boxcar Racer, and Angels & Airwaves came out when I was in grade 10. Man I really fell in love with that band. I still look forward to new songs. Just love the sound of A&A.
i love how tom is always incorporating new things to his music, and i think mark and to some extent travis helped him in blink to keep it grounded and moving when AVA is just kinda... ambitious but convoluted

I love Tom, from blink to boxcar to angels he's my favorite artist. Undeniably passionate. I love the soaring epic aspect of AvA that's why I wasn't a big fan of the last album because it was a bit of a departure from that, but I loved WDNTW, iEmpire, and the two Love albums looking forward to the new one! At the same time I'm afraid he's woefully off the mark on the UFO thing. I think there's a strong amount of self denial that it takes to end up that deep in it. I think that's where a lot of his tics come from. But always hoping the best for Tom

Seen blink live twice with my mates with Tom still in band, loved every min of the concerts, I feel lucky.

Man, Neighborhoods was my favorite album. I couldn’t imagine Blink going further with that sound, itd be too good to be true. I honestly hate the new direction Blinks taking.

For any fans of Tom, AVA, and Blink, i highly recommend you watch the Ernie Ball Documentary: The Pursuit of Tone. It's absolutely remarkable. Tom is so amazing and captivating and you get to really take a dive into Tom's mind and I absolutely love it. Give it a check! Pretty sure there's a full version on youtube as well!
