Exciting news for the 10 people who will switch.
Hopefully this will push developers for software and software for hardware to support linux
Watch half life 3 releasing but only works on steamOS or any Linux system
can't wait to see people with jailbroken switches try to install steam OS on switches again and it seeing if it will finally work.
Switch uses a Tegra, which is ARM. Linux will definitely run on ARM, but Steam is x86 only as far as I'm aware.
Someone else may have already said this but the reason for the disk space and price difference is because of the windows licensing (100) and windows taking up a ton more disk space than Linux/steamos. This will definitely increase the users if Linux but not necessarily desktop Linux.
"Just install Manjaro" Cmon we want a fighting chance here.
Bad distro choice
Maybe Gabe is not just bussiness man but also a gamer! That is why steps from Valve is so great!
Muta: Steam go release OS to wider public
Steam: OK
Microsoft blew it with the Microsoft Store and integrating it in with XBox. They had a chance and for awhile looked like Phil was making everts towards it, but now it is too late. The XBox handheld will be the same story as the Microsoft phone, too late to the market
When I get a computer, I’ll be installing Linux OS. Pre builds from Costco looking good right now
I've been saying I'll dual boot windows 10 and steam os even after win10 EOL for a LONG time. I'll literally only use Windows 10 when I absolutely have to. After using the steam deck for the last 2 years, i'm completely sold.
Been gaming on Linux Mint 22 for 4 months now and it works just as well as on Windows.
Will wait for muta to make the video for steam os install
Hopefully this also pushes microsoft to make a more handheld friendly version of windows too
@@MrBeetsGaming They tried and failed. I am very sure they won’t try again
@@Moe-lester-j7e to my knowledge they havent tried (unless you mean windows phones) and now with the recent uproar of handheld gaming they might see an opportunity to sell a handheld XBOX, their XBOX Windows actually works well so this could totally work
Wtf is wrong with you?
Its microsoft. The evil company.
Theres no "hopefully MS something something". Theres only "hopefully" for MS is to go bankrupt and for linux to take over.
Muta out here talking about ditching again 😂
Switched to Ubuntu a few weeks ago to try it out and i really like it. I could basically play every game and do all my everyday stuff EXCEPT my music production. So dual booting for now.
3:52 that mic is like butter Muta :D
As long as steamos has built in wine variant allowing us to play ALL games, I 'WILL' move completely to SteamOS, Only thing keeping me on windows is just the amount of games I have on Steam that is windows only. plus FiveM.
I want steamOS because my system is not compatible with win11. So fuck M$, give me that new OS papa Gabe
Let's hope Linux continues to grow! Need that competition.
I've loved SteamOS since the Steam Deck launch. Bazzite is great, but it's not quite the same when you get under the hood, as it's based on Fedora and not Arch.
Would genuinely love a vid explaining how to dual boot SteamOS and Windows whenever the distro officially drops
This will be really cool. Hopefully the build of Linux they use doesn’t have weird issues with my stupid AsRock mobo.
I like how everyone that owns a steamdeck owns a pc
For OEMs like Lenovo, it doesn't cost that much for them to include a windows license on a device, so much so it's really not that big of a cost factor as you'd think. Regardless, no need for a license anyway.
If windows 10 gets the plug pulled, as they say it will this year, its good to know there might be an alternative to windows 11. Linux is really intimidating for those of us not super savvy with operating systems, and I feel that steamOS might be a good gateway for it
Muta… brother… i have varying levels on concern each time your video pops up recommended on my feed
I have an old xps 12 "2in1". I might as well give it a shot and try out SteamOS.
I’ve been waiting for the next generation of hand heads to get back into gaming I’ve been out of the tribe for about 5-6 years now and I miss the brotherhood a lot more than I expected.
Really excited for this! I wonder if having an Intel hardware will be ok? I also wonder if maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a Steam deck to test drive the OS first? I will probably attempt dual-boot first.
I thought you could download the steamos independently from their website. What’s the difference between that and the new public release?
That one is from years ago and totally separate from the current SteamOS
@ gotcha. So this is a new release. Preciate the info 👌🏾
Re: valve and trackpads.
I have not used a steam deck. I did try a steam controller way back when, and the track pad on that was the best FPS on a control pad experience I ever had. (I generally cannot stand FPSes on controllers. The steam controller was still inferior to a mouse.)
