- Doing a worldbuilding project doesn't have to be complicated or complex! In this video, I show you how I used random reference images to come up with an idea for a fantastical food stall design, along with its owner and a set of props as well!
If you try out this design challenge as well, tag me on my instagram / jtuffdesigns as I'd love to see what you come up with! (Hopefully IG won't have any issues with notifying me this time...)

Love these designs and hearing the thought process behind them!
I always having a hard time explaining to myself or my friend why Dungeon Meshi is amazing, but after watching this video I realized that everything you explained is exactly why I love it. Ryoko Kui is a genius at this and you are probably as good as her. Thank you so much, it's very inspiring.
I haven't watched it yet but your beaming love for the show got me excited to start it
I am so happy I found your channel, content such as this are very scarce! It’s not just about making pretty art, it’s about making art that has depth, story and design
Thank you so much! I do my best to make sure that I have all of those boxes ticked so I'm happy to hear that 😄
Indeed. Im so grateful for discovering this channel.
I'm a sucker for when you can just glance at one item and know exactly what culture it belongs to when it shares design elements in fantasy art. Even something more childlike, like say Neopets would do that with their food. So it makes me happy learning about this so I can try my hand at it, it looks like such fun to draw.
That's definitely what I aim for. My analogy is that I want my art to be like good home cooking or street food. Humble, easily enjoyed by all but packed with flavor!
me watching this and casually making a sandwich
can you make me one as well?
Same, but I'm making a grilled cheese. The whole process is super inspiring tho.
@@user-fl8kx8xr3d i hope you guys put some grilled centipedes on it too 😌
Awesome video, Jourdan! Thanks for sharing your design process and showing how you overcome all those challenges :D
Thanks Lorraine, always a pleasure to share!
Amazing content Jourdan! Lots to take away from this!
I really appreciate these videos :D Especially your process video on studies!

All the best, Yari
What a great video. I've been following your work for some time and it's awesome to see the thought process behind it.
I work mostly with "search and find" illustrations and I've been trying to get them to be more design oriented so each tiny world feels more lived-in and interesting. I'll definitely use a lot of your tips on my next one, thank you!
this is a really cool video, it made me realise that the way I use references is similar to the challenge u did, its always a bunch of random ideas bits and bobs slapped all together, expect I rarerly have functionality in mind, I will try that next time :D
Absolutely love the way you break down your design thinking and I really like the style of your illustrations! I think the next step would be to do a creature design for Lumipede!
Thank you! Designing the Lumipede would mean doing extra work though 😂
I really enjoyed this video a lot. I would definitely love to see more
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m currently trying to do some world building myself and with this video you gave me an idea on how I’m going to approach it.
The presentation at the end was really the icing on a very delicious and informative cake!

Damn, this video is amazing content! Concept design with such in depth explanation and on such a high skill level is normally something you have to pay for. I am in awe of your skill and you explain your process and thoughts extremely well and structured so it's easy to follow along. If you keep this level of quality up, you will be in the hundreds of thousands subscribers in no time.
oh i looved this!!!!! watching you go through the steps as you describe the thought process behind how you design buildings is really interesting and helpful. ive been trying to design my own buildings lately and havent really known where to start, and i keep defaulting back to the vaguely european style of building, which is a bit overdone these days. im gonna follow along with how you did this building then i'll try my own, these are so so so helpful, you have no clue!!!!! :-) cant wait for ur next vid
I'm so glad your channel is growing fast, wonderful content!

Thank you for checking the vid out! There's a new one coming out soon!
Love these concepts
Glad you like it!
Very nice video coi. There are so many little nuggets sprinkled here and there. They're always good reminders even if someone already knows those tips.
I had some nitpicky thoughts regarding the design:
1. Scale of things. Comparing the size of the scale on the grilled food vs the scale being used for the roof, there seems to be a huge discrepancy in size. Unless they're eating the baby lumipedes instead.
2. It may make more logical sense (but since it's a fantasy world, lots of leeway there), if the plates being used for armor and roof are red. The idea is that, like in our world, crustaceans are usually cooked first before we take off their exoskeletons, so maybe in this world it's the same thing. Then maybe the kebab stall doubles as a shop that sells lumipede shells. They sell the cooked meat and shells separately.
Hey!!! thank you so much for such an interesting video!!! I'm very inspired by such topics heh
wonderful video thanks for sharing
Really great video. Inspiring and you got my sub. Look forward to watching more of your content.

Love this ! Generous, Great in depth process. Thanks ! Would love to see a similar video on interior environment design. I've always struggled with coming up with all the STUFF in a room.. you know?
thank you for this video dude, I'm a props concept artist and this one inspired me a lot, hope you'll get more subs and views ASAP because this is high quality content fr
Thank you so much! Props are so much fun to make and I wish more people would get into it as well :) Appreciate your kind words
Fantastic stuff! I love the texture of the final drawings, similar to Copic markers and pencil in some ways. Awesome designs and well rendered! Love the process
Thank you so much! I've been loving the brush i've been using so much, it definitely gives that traditional look that you mention :)
First time here. Subbed.
Neat stuff.
Welcome to the channel, appreciate you checking it out and hope you enjoy your stay!
Hi! I wanted to drop by and tell you that thanks to your video, I feel a little bit more inspired now. I've been in an art block for a while and it's been hard to get through it. I appreciate the knowledge and your thought process that you shared with your viewers.. More power to you and I hope you continue to inspire a lot more!
That is so awesome to hear! Appreciate you taking the time to let me know and I hope that you find more joy in you art :)
I am watching this at night outside and heard the music and got scared for a second because I thought it was the ice cream man at night hahaha creepy. These ideas are great! Subbed, you know, often times the ideas that aren’t my favorite, my clients like the most, so that’s another reason to just do all the ideas lol
Just 3 references! This is a pretty neat challenge!
Imma try this out.
Awesome! Would love to see ehat you make from it 🙂
You deserved a new sub.! You really explained well. What software do you often used for most of your illustrations!
Fantastic project, I love hearing you get lost in the sauce
I feel hungry
Love these videos so much. Just curious, what is the brush that you are using? :D
Great vid! I would love a tutorial on rendering different materials
Thank you! I'd love to do a video on rendering different materials at some point!
THANK SO BRO FOR INFORMATIVE CONTENT , which brush do you use to make this blu line sketch please give me a link for this brush
Awesome video, man. Are you still using the sketch bashing method for quick concepts or have you primarily moved on to this type of sketching?
Thank you! I don't really use it too much, since i'm trying to hone my ability to generate designs even if I had to work on a traditional sketchbook
With that said, I still apply a similar way of thinking honed by sketchbashing exercises :)
Love this!!! What brush did you use for the colouring??
Will be sharing how I made this in the upcoming video!
I want to know how look Centipede is ?
It definitely looks delicious! But since it looks like a skewer, maybe all the juices will fall from the exposed flesh and drip into the fire. Grilling it whole is probably best, then crack it open later? Haha
Spoken like a fellow foodie ;) and good points! Maybe it's too heavy if it's all in one segment too? 😛
@@jtuffdesigns Maybe! Haha xD I'm sure if you broke this down into 10 more explorations it still will be exciting to witness
Hi loved the video I wanted to ask what the pieces hanging behind you are?
Thank you, glad you like it! The pieces in the background are my own art :) you can see them in higher res on my instagram
@@jtuffdesigns oh amazing I just started following you
Where do you find reference images? I struggle to find anything worth saving, and am not fond of using pinterest.
What don't you like about Pinterest? That's all I really use, and sometimes Google.
What pc pen tablet do you have
Just an Intuos Pro PTH-660, nothing fancy :)
Can you teach us how to render like you? :-)
where can we find future challenges? i'm already in your discord but can't find them there!
I haven't set it up there yet but due to popular demand I will be doing so soon! Appreciate the patience and good to have you as a part of the server! 😊
@@jtuffdesigns awesome!! take all the time you need
U sound like a Filipino
il sert a rien ton live
is instagram the only place to participate on your community challenges???
I'll think of different ways of properly hosting it for future ones! I didn't really properly plan for this one to be a community challenge as much as a suggestion for people to try out :)
