    I've been hooked on your tying since you tied a bootlace buzzer for me at the Scottish Game fair many years ago and I am still in awe at your skill.Thank you Davie.

    As new to tying I like the simplicity of the way you show and explain the fly you are tying. They are very good looking and small amount of materials, I'm going to follow your instructions and try to tie them. Thank you for the excellent video. I have watched quite a lot of them and enjoyed them all.

    Hi Davie - great videos as always - thank you. One question - what kind of wax do you add to the thread at various points during the tying process? It doesn't look like regular dubbing wax and so I wondered if you could let me know please. Many thanks! Matt

      Hi Matt,
      I've attached a link to the wax that I use, it comes from a wholesale company called Veniards if you can find a stockist of their materials I'm sure they'll be able to help you...

    Have you tried EP Trigger Point fro Enrico Pulglisi, in Blue Wing Olive color? Works well for BWO's Comparaduns.

    Hey Davie, I really like the flies. Do you happen to know the denier of the veevus threads? I have been using 14/0 and it feels as strong as 8/0. I don't usually break my thread much anymore unless I hit the hook point. I just wondered how the small diameter thread can be so strong. I sometime watch your video's lying down resting while the wife is asleep which accounts for the occasional night where I don't comment. Tonight was one of those nights. In a year when I am re-watching I will be surprised I didn't comment. on small flies do you ever use the other side of the quill from the trailing edge of the biots? I do on 24 and under. All the best to you and yours. Sean

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 років тому

      Hi Sean,
      To be honest I'm not sure what the denier is of these threads or even any of the others I use, I have mostly used Uni-Threads especially 8/0 which I feel is perfect for many of the flies I tye...I do though need to use other threads just incase I get asked what I think...I have used the other side of the biots especially on nymphs though I have tyed dry flies as well....

      +Sean Mooney - I switched to 14/0 and have had the same result - stuff is really strong and I've stopped breaking - also use 10/0 for big streamers.

    • @seanmooney3907
      @seanmooney3907 8 років тому

      Veevus has made a good thread. I use it especially if I don't want to build bulk. I use 8/0 for many of my flies and use UTC for thread body flies. The flat shine to that thread in nice, however, I prefer a round thread. The veevus 10/0 is also pretty flat but it takes too long for all but tiny bodies. All the best to you and yours. Thanks for the comment

    Davie. They say the fisherman's curse is the Trico yet I feel the Blue Winged Olive can be a close second.. Your videos and tutorials have been extremely helpful on this pattern. Do you see this hatch as a challenge as well?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 років тому

      Hi ugsisr,
      I do agree with you that these flies can test you as they do come off in big numbers so the fish do have to pick your fly out of the crowd, but it's great fun to fish when these flies are coming off...I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that they have helped you...

    On the Comparadun why did you wrap between the deer hair? Spacing it out did not make it look any more than a true wing. Spreading the hair out, does it change the floatation?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  4 роки тому

      Hi Gary,
      I have always tyed the wings of the comparaduns like this as I have found it to work really well making the fly float longer and as well give the wing a fuller look..I may have read about this way of tying the wings on or seen someone doing it but I can't remember as I have been tying them like this for over 30 years..Great question..

    Davie - how do you get the wax to stick to your finger? is it a special kind of wax?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 роки тому

      Hi wyomingtrout,
      I have attached a link to a video in which I show how I prepare the wax I use for tying with. Although doing a piece when you need it rather than doing a few like I do will help to keep the wax in good order, also keep it in a sealed bag as well...Here is the link to the video.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 роки тому

      Hi@@wyomingtrout5581 It will though just hold it between your finger and thumb and it will soften, I would also work it between my fingers until it becomes tacky as this will help it stick to the side of your finger..All the very best Davie

      Hi Kayak Uprising,
      Waxing your thread will give it more grip and as well it will help to strengthen it, it's always been done in many trades as well as tying flies...Happy New Year....
