Thank you Daniel. It is truly great to watch a champion in his craft. I have learned a lot through watching this video. I have only been tying for a year now and so excited to watch a craftsman at his trade. I'll ty with more CDC, now that you have shown me some more techniques. Tight lines mate. Cheers.
The first Fly love it use it all the time I tie myself you did excellent job. I learned a lot of techniques from Petitjean with CDC and I met him at the Fly and symposium in New Jersey
Thank you for all the free information. I will start tie flies nex week, and it helps me to understand the process and the steps. We need more people like you,, ready to pass on the knowledge.
Great examples and explanations, thank you! Just picked up a set of Magic Tool clips and a few bags of CDC and am looking forward to learning how to use this tying material.
So assured & skilled plus a very steady hand to produce some eyecatching CDC flies. I can see my tying station becoming a mass of failed flies as I try to practice your patterns; I can hear the cursing already. Thanks for spending the time producing a video where all can see exactly what you're doing.
Great video Daniel, I’m definitely going to apply this method as I fish allot of dry flies here for brown trout and seatrout on the Irish rivers here, so will definitely try these methods. Great video. 💯🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thank you! Scissors I use in this video is SMAEN. They are extremely sharp and durable. Other tools that are good specifically for CDC and used in the video is Petitjean Magic Tool, Petitjean Thread splitter and dubbing twister.
Just a beginner at tying. Thanks for sharing your experience with how you use CDC. I'll definitely be giving them a go for my quest of chasing our wild native golden trout this year.
Let’s go!!!!! Killers!!!! Awesome!!!! Continue the run!!!! The long black piece was unique what was that normally used for since I don’t know much about those?
Cheers from Calgary Alberta Canada. Thanks so much for the great info on CDC, quick question, when splitting the thread for dubbing loop what direction do you spin your bobbin to tighten CDC ? thanks .
Hello there - with fly patterns tied with CDC, do you need to add floatant in order for them to stay floating / dry while fishing them? Really liked the video, thank you very much for all the work that went into it.
No you don't have to add floatant in fact you shouldn't use any gell or liquid type of floatant unless it specified for CDC .With CDC the only thing you need to do when it gets wet and starts to sink is to use a dust type powder . Just dip or brush on . Shake of the extra dust and you should be good to go.
Hello Daniel, first of al thank you for al te information you put out! i also have 2 and a half question:-), you use on some patterns snowshoe rabbit dubbing i think it must be verry sticky and fine, easy to make a thin and orderly dubbing noodle, but is this dubbing adding to the floating ability of the fly? and what do you think about the synthetick dubbing flyrite? the next question that textreme standart thread, is there difference about it compared to the thread from Marc Petitjean wich i use mostly, is the choise of tying tread a significant factor in buouncy, i realy love cdc and when fishing dry fly often use it, stil compared to deerhair etc the floatability is of shorter duration, stil this is a wonderful material and often fish root for cdc fly's.
I have a question about your Swiss Vise (I have one) just to the front of the nut that you loosen/tighten to adjust the jaw assembly alignmebt for perfect rotary, there is a little round thing. (on the top, behind the vise jaws, behind the rubber thread "trap") My Swiss Vise does not have it. The round "dished" thing. What is it and what is it for? How is it attached to the two arms that hold the jaw assembly?
I've looked at all the normal places for the CDC rope and not able to locate anything that seems close. Would a dubbing loop of cdc work as you intended? Might be a little bit more of a buggy appearance than the rope would be. Again I really enjoyed the video and look forward to more on cdc. It seems to be the perfect solution for day's.
It's a Petitjean. I have tied cdc for years and this is by far the best whip finisher on the market in my opinion . Excellent in tight situations. Well worth the investment
Love your videos . . . very informative . . . may I suggest watching Marc Petitjean videos also? . . . he's the master! . . . Oh, I just noticed you use a Petitjean vise . . . I guess I should watch the entire video before I comment . . . LOL! . . . I wish I could afford one . . . 😁
I’ve seen most of them and of course have Marc’s book. Great stuff! Marc has been a guru since I first layed my hands on a bag of CDC many years ago. I’ve also had the privilege to fish with him several times. 😊 Great memories!
For me, this video was not quite what I expected. There are new methods. Binding the body with CDC, not dubbing. The book 📖 Petitjean CDC is very instructive for me.
There is hundreds of methods to use CDC! These are just a few, and my favorite techniques. Didn’t I use a whole feather to do the body on one of them? Not tightly twisted though. I agree! Marc’s book is somewhat a bible when it comes to CDC! Fun little side note is that I actually took some of the pictures in that one. 😊 His videos are also great!
It feels a bit strange that you don't use the curved scissors in the right direction when you have curved scissors and are going to cut under the fly 🤪
I think you missed his point. There are many types of CDC feathers in a pack and they all have a use for a type of fly you tie. So you might have to search for the best feather for the fly you want to tie but it doesn’t mean the others you pick through can’t be used for something else. And any scrap CDC feathers can be picked for dubbing.
@@jonathonkersting9043 Not gonna argue. SWISSCDC ultra select xxl will yield more viable flies in the long run than veniard/fly co .etc scrap feathers.CDC is measuret pr. Gr. and XXXL will yeild more flies. i spend 2 years of testing what there was on the market and xxl+ suits it all and in the long run cheaper then the rest. - i tie cdc's from #8 to #18's so quality matters. side note - cdc with the best float and most strands is an Eider but is "impossible" to get. Guess i argued and i am sorry.
I totally understand what you mean. A big feather can probably tie more flies in the long run. But the point I was trying to make, as mentioned above is that most feathers in most bags of CDC is useable for something. For a F-fly or a Baetis with a single feather wing I wouldn’t want a large feather. For size 20 or smaller f.ex. I often thing the fibers in the tips of the feather are to short and make for a to wide profile of the wing. You can of course use only the fibers, but for some flies that takes longer time, and is not specific to the pattern. Thanks for the comment! Always nice when people engage. 😊
Guys from USA, stay away from finesse dries. They are difficult for you. It’s shame to made this video. Those 72 minutes are like its first tied CDC flies ever. Ugly big rainbow flies are your specialty
An OK vid. But I'd prefer to spend an hour of my time watching Petitjean himself, as his vids are much better macro filmed, with less waffled commentary. And WOW there were a lot of ADs. No stacked CDC flys in this vid. either. That's a basic omission.
Thank you Daniel. It is truly great to watch a champion in his craft. I have learned a lot through watching this video. Fantastic series of flies 👏👏 will tie up a set for the loch trout

Thanks for sharing. Was a great watch. And great tying really enjoyed watching this. Thanks and tightlines 🎣🎣🎣👌👍

😂😂 I’m sure you’ll make it in no time. Just take it easy. 😊
Nice video that will help a lot. Looking forward to try those in the autumn.
Tools are a big game Changer. I use the CDC Swiss mini-clamp and multispinner tool and it made cdc and even insane deer hair hackle flies super easy.
Great video Daniel, I’m definitely going to apply this method as I fish allot of dry flies here for brown trout and seatrout on the Irish rivers here, so will definitely try these methods. Great video. 💯🎣🎣🎣🎣
An other Master !❤
That was good I haven't seen it done any better thank you for that very nice

Great video thank you always a good watch . Could you please state your scissors and other tools you use please ? Thank you

Fantastic video, thank you! What is it you are using to keep your packets of snowshoe rabbit dubbing together? Looks very convenient!
Great presentation
Aplausos, excelente explicacion del atado de wincase y Alas para Emergentes, MayFly y Caddis.
Excellent video.

Great stuff - thanks
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for your help and information
Thanks a lot I watched you twice and saved! EXCELLENT I am in Florida Hope to fish in Michigan
That is a cool looking whip finisher

@@davidveilleux4688 Yes, I should have clarified that I meant the powder type floatant, as I know the liquid or gel floatant ruins CDC

Hi. Thanks for the kind words. But I have to ask, what do you mean with CDC rope? Like a pre-made dubbing brush?
Great content and love the explanations from the biology standpoint!
Also, where can I get that shirt?! haha
What is the make of scissors you are using ? Iove the vice
Det var en grum video Daniel 💪
De skal brukes i elvene jeg fisker i Norge 👌

Where in the world to get your CDC
You need a separate camera for your macro shots so you can focus better. I could not see the close ups of the fly’s details.
Yes unfortunately
I’ll mention this to Robert behind the camera if he hasn’t already read it. 😊
Brilliant. Thank you
Kanonbra! 👏👍😃
A bit long and slow but got there in the end, thanks
Tänker använda dem i Lofsdalen i sommar.😄

need a better camera/close ups etc.
I’ll have a chat with Robert behind the cameras about this if it’s possible.
If only you had macro capability while filming.
I’ll talk with Robert behind the cameras about this.
