@@skweed8 Because there's no legal law to take down emulators themselves, they just emulate the hardware and people are (supposed) to dump their real copies onto a PC and use the emulators to play. There was a law case back in the 90s where Sony tried to sue for a company's emulation software for the Playstation and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the copying of a copyrighted BIOS software during the development of an emulator software does not constitute copyright infringement, but is covered by fair use. I’ve been hoping that someone would set up Splatoon servers once the official ones go down. This is better than I could have ever imagined! I’ve been hesitant to put any kind of home brew on my old consoles but now I’m seriously reconsidering
There's really no downside to homebrewing them at this point, Wii U/3DS are on their way out so you don't really need to worry about getting banned. I'd say Switch is the only one to be hesitant about homebrewing right now.
my 3ds is kinda broken so i cant even turn it on to get homebrew on it, and im not sure if i can even get it on my wii. also, im scared of accidentally messing up my wii by trying to do it. i also have my switch but i dont think im gonna even try to put homebrew on that until the next nintendo console comes out
This is super exciting, I feel like my friends and I were the only ones who used Wii U Chat religiously. Drawing battles, Mario Kart 8 arrangements, Minecraft building planning... It was definitely a different time to be a Nintendo fan, but memorable for sure. I've written this sounding as though I'm most excited for Wii U chat (which may or may not be true), but I think Miiverse is what gets me super excited. With the age of forums mostly over, it's nice to see one of my mostly visited ones during the 2010s gaining life, ready to suffocate me with drawings of Mario's ass on fire.
It will be incredibly frustrating if Nintendo nukes them. There's absolutely no reason to, they're just making an old console enjoyable again, but with Nintendo being Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised...
@@mustacheman529 Because Nintendo only cares about what is new and are way too protective of their franchises. Even if they aren’t making money off of it. They constantly file DMCAs and shut down fan games.

Its hard to go into details but they used their own code to bring this back to life, they didn't steal anything. Nintendo once tried bringing it to court with another Nintendo project thats doing the same thing, and lost the case.
@Rainbow Dash Ultimately Pretendo shouldn't be affected by this. They aren't making the user pay for the service, and it has been reverse engineered entirely. It was the same with the Super Mario 64 PC port. They legally can't attack the program itself, so their goal is to remove any attention to it.
they have existed with custom splatfests its not hard to make one pretendo only will make custom splatfests happen even after the official ones are gone
I think that it's a huge deal that this works with Emulators. In terms of it being user friendly, and not needing the native hardware means that Pretendo will have a bright future with Cemu and hopefully Citra as well in the future.
If you homebrew your 3ds you don't even need miiverse for screenshots, luma3ds (the main cfw) has a screenshot button in a menu you can bring up anywhere
Miiverse and WiiU Chat mean so much for me. They made me share art for the first time, to join IRL communities, and It was the way that I got to meet one of my best friends of my entire life, and we have been talking for almost a decade now. It really means so much, that it makes me tear up seeing how the community Is reviving this experience
This seriously needs to be something that returns to gaming. Official servers + community ones for newer games would be awesome. Also WTF happened to LAN play? It sucks that I have to be connected to the internet to play multiplayer with friends in my own house.

This is such a cool idea, and it’s awesome to see so many this dedicated to preservation. Things like Spittoon’s Miiverse functionality working again and Smash 4’s Miiverse returning to its full glory soon is so cool!!! While it may be a little stupid, things I’m probably the most excited for though is having Wii U Chat back. When I was a kid growing up and phones with applications like FaceTime were no where to be found in my house, the only way I was able to communicate with one of my closest friends once he moved to a different state was through Wii U Chat. We’d talk for hours, and I have a lot of fond memories from that.
This is actually awesome, I thought this video was going to be something else since I already restored Miiverse functionality on my 3DS long time ago using something else I believe but Pretendo is so much more, glad to see how its preserving the online side of games or other apps such as Wii U chat. Very exciting stuff
I currently use rverse on my 3DS as it seems to be more active, but I will probably switch to Pretendo soon because of the in-game functionality (SPLATFESTS LET'S GO)

As soon as the bottles are back, fully-functioning on Wind Waker HD, I'm DEFINITELY downloading this! That was such a wonderful feature. Really immersive and perfectly complemented that world. I adored it.
One feature that I think needs to come back for the switch 2... is street pass. Like seriously. While street-pass features died out hard in the late life cycle of the 3ds (basically once the switch released), during the early and mid life cycle it was great as heck. Secret base data from OR&AS, getting ghost data for mario kart 7, Fire emblem awakening / Fire emblem Fates heroe data, and even the streetpass games themselves. Like holy butts it was a great feature
I've been enjoying the Pretendo Public Beta since it dropped in late September, and I'm very glad to see more people talking about it now. Watching this reminded me that I'm still really excited for Juxt to come back online since I only got to enjoy it on the first day or two of the beta
It would be cool if there was a mod that replaced the Miiverse messages in Smash Bros with random Twitch Chat messages (or donations) for streamers to interact with their audience.
Do ot think I'm going to ever use this, but it's amazing! I've been missing Miiverse and seeing it being brought back to life is astounding! Hoping you all who're going to use it as well as PreTendo an experience full of splat-astic memories! (Remember to stan and praise Hightide Era in your posts)
This made my day, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I was playing splatoon 1 earlier today, just to get check in on how its doing and the wave of nostalgia that hit me was incredible, just remembering my first splatfest, then imediately spending all my super sea snails to gamble for good gear abilities. And the story mode is only second to octo expansion. I cant wait to bring my plaza back to life and to experience the splatfests yet again.
This is such a joy to see! After having many good memories with the online functions, the memes on Miiverse, many helpful tips and fotos in Wind Waker and finding a friend on Miiverse I still am in contact with to this day, I'm so glad it's all coming back! Thank you Pretendo team!!
This is so sick!! Splatfest in Splatoon 1 was something I never got to experience, and seeing that it could be returning is such a wonder to behold. Looking forward to seeing progress on this project!!
Amazing stuff!! I know its never gonna happen, but I'd love to see TVii come back. It was such an amazing feeture just for fact that you could check your TV guide directly on the game pad and share moments with other people watching the same shows live.
We actually did some work on TVii about a year ago and got it booting again, however since it relied on live TV streams we didn’t go any further, since we don’t have the rights to stream any of that
I'm glad they are working on this before the services shut down. It probably makes it much easier for them to reverse engineer and it also helps lift a bit of pressure off them. Efforts like this are always commendable.
I used Wii U Chat with my friend all the time when I moved to a different state, and its how we stayed connected outside of just texting & Skype. I loved the doodles you could do on the screen
I just hope that the Miiverse Stage for Smash 4 Wii U gets some more moderation than it did back in its prime. Nothing killed the mood faster than unrelated spam and “tasteful” imagery.
Switch is so bare bones in the OS department and features department when compared to the 3DS and Wii U. No real activity log or even tracker. No Streetpass. No Miiverse. I thought there would be significant additions to the OS features over time but I was wrong.
Man, Miiverse was sick. I remember trading Pokémon with other there, trying to not get banned for sharing friend codes... Good times, I wish there was something similar on Switch.
This is very exciting, I’m really hoping for Miiverse as well as Streetpass to be functional again on Animal Crossing New Leaf, I miss those features from that game!
StreetPass is still functional. I’m not sure who is going to restore relays, or when, or how, but in the meantime, I don’t understand why people lost faith and stopped bringing their 3DSes with them. But it’s never too late to do the right thing!
Revisiting consoles Is always fun whether It's the PS2, N64 or NES but I find the Wii U kind of depressing to go back to Because of how much Miiverse was a part of It, It's In the menus, the plaza, the games, everything reminds you that feature Is dead The Wii has fan servers for games as well as channels being revived, PS2 also has fan servers so those systems still feel alive The day I first tried the pretendo beta I almost shed a tear, It's back, my Wii U Is alive again!

It's great to see the 3DS and Wii U community moving forward. We, the community, will forever sustain these consoles we love so much. We, E4T with translations for the Brazilian audience, continue to support games that unfortunately do not have an official localization. It will be really cool one day for everyone to come together through the new miiverse and have fun with apps like Pokémon Bank and the interactions that Miiverse provided within the games.
I got my Wii U in christmas 2016 and I couldn't really use Miiverse for that long, but I miss having the WaraWara plaza with games and actual people talking. This is so exciting!
Since you have to mod your 3ds anyway for pretendo, until the miiverse screenshots are implemented you can take screenshots with the most widely used cfw, luma3ds (which most homebrew is built for anyway)
it’d be really cool to see mario 3D world’s miiverse functionality back, with how the stamps could be used in messages and that you could race other players through levels, it was really some pretty cool stuff
Yeah, same here. I was sad to see that I just got a 3ds and the miiverse and another function was taken down. Luckily I got it years before they took down the ability to add funds.

With modding tools, I wonder how hard it would be to make a script to grab the data from Super Mario Maker 1, and then recreate the level in Super Mario Maker 2. You'd need to decide what to do with elements in the start area, and also which pipe do you keep when multiple pipes are overlaid. But it would be a cool added function to SMM1/2

I'm planning on getting a WiiU to get games like Splatoon, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess and others, and always thought that I would never experience the miiverse part of this games, or the online part, but with this!!! I'm so happy and excited that there are people creating this, so the online experience can continue with this consoles!!
This takes me back to the first Xbox, when my friends and me would connect our console to the PC and use remote servers to play each other. Of course then we were tricking the console into thinking it was a LAN setup, but still, the workarounds with Pretendo make me smile.
Seeing Mario maker 1 and Splatoon 1 get some love by the community is lowkey making me emotional. I like them both so much better then their sequels. So happy to see they are still having active communities

It was confirmed Pokémon Bank will be free once 3DS eShop is done in March

as seen here there is compatibility with emulators like cemu, so if you don't want to risk homebrewing you can always emulate instead.

Things like Spittoon’s Miiverse functionality working again and Smash 4’s Miiverse returning to its full glory soon is so cool!!! While it may be a little stupid, things I’m probably the most excited for though is having Wii U Chat back. When I was a kid growing up and phones with applications like FaceTime were no where to be found in my house, the only way I was able to communicate with one of my closest friends once he moved to a different state was through Wii U Chat. We’d talk for hours, and I have a lot of fond memories from that.
This is actually awesome, I thought this video was going to be something else since I already restored Miiverse functionality on my 3DS long time ago using something else I believe but Pretendo is so much more, glad to see how its preserving the online side of games or other apps such as Wii U chat. Very exciting stuff
I currently use rverse on my 3DS as it seems to be more active, but I will probably switch to Pretendo soon because of the in-game functionality (SPLATFESTS LET'S GO)
@@C_Yo that's probably what I'm using too, I don't really remember the name tho. I'll eventually switch too, I'd like for my things to work even if nobody uses them such as the wii u chat. Pretendo definitely going to be very useful when the online services shut down for wii u and 3ds.

As soon as the bottles are back, fully-functioning on Wind Waker HD, I'm DEFINITELY downloading this! That was such a wonderful feature. Really immersive and perfectly complemented that world. I adored it.

One feature that I think needs to come back for the switch 2... is street pass.
Like seriously. While street-pass features died out hard in the late life cycle of the 3ds (basically once the switch released), during the early and mid life cycle it was great as heck. Secret base data from OR&AS, getting ghost data for mario kart 7, Fire emblem awakening / Fire emblem Fates heroe data, and even the streetpass games themselves.

Funny thing is StreetPass is now basically serving as a more future-proof version of online features for some games with their servers shutting down.
I've been enjoying the Pretendo Public Beta since it dropped in late September, and I'm very glad to see more people talking about it now. Watching this reminded me that I'm still really excited for Juxt to come back online since I only got to enjoy it on the first day or two of the beta
First got a Wii U in the last few weeks and a 3DS in 2020, love them both and have a lot that’s unique to them to dig into.

It would be cool if there was a mod that replaced the Miiverse messages in Smash Bros with random Twitch Chat messages (or donations) for streamers to interact with their audience.
Do ot think I'm going to ever use this, but it's amazing! I've been missing Miiverse and seeing it being brought back to life is astounding! Hoping you all who're going to use it as well as PreTendo an experience full of splat-astic memories! (Remember to stan and praise Hightide Era in your posts)
This made my day, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I was playing splatoon 1 earlier today, just to get check in on how its doing and the wave of nostalgia that hit me was incredible, just remembering my first splatfest, then imediately spending all my super sea snails to gamble for good gear abilities. And the story mode is only second to octo expansion. I cant wait to bring my plaza back to life and to experience the splatfests yet again.

After having many good memories with the online functions, the memes on Miiverse, many helpful tips and fotos in Wind Waker and finding a friend on Miiverse I still am in contact with to this day, I'm so glad it's all coming back!

Amazing stuff!! I know its never gonna happen, but I'd love to see TVii come back. It was such an amazing feeture just for fact that you could check your TV guide directly on the game pad and share moments with other people watching the same shows live.
We actually did some work on TVii about a year ago and got it booting again, however since it relied on live TV streams we didn’t go any further, since we don’t have the rights to stream any of that
I'm glad they are working on this before the services shut down. It probably makes it much easier for them to reverse engineer and it also helps lift a bit of pressure off them. Efforts like this are always commendable.
I used Wii U Chat with my friend all the time when I moved to a different state, and its how we stayed connected outside of just texting & Skype. I loved the doodles you could do on the screen

I just hope that the Miiverse Stage for Smash 4 Wii U gets some more moderation than it did back in its prime. Nothing killed the mood faster than unrelated spam and “tasteful” imagery.

Switch is so bare bones in the OS department and features department when compared to the 3DS and Wii U. No real activity log or even tracker. No Streetpass. No Miiverse. I thought there would be significant additions to the OS features over time but I was wrong.

StreetPass is still functional. I’m not sure who is going to restore relays, or when, or how, but in the meantime, I don’t understand why people lost faith and stopped bringing their 3DSes with them. But it’s never too late to do the right thing!
Yeah streetpass is just as functional as ever, since it's based on passing other people's 3ds. You might be thinking of spotpass

Because of how much Miiverse was a part of It, It's In the menus, the plaza, the games, everything reminds you that feature Is dead
The Wii has fan servers for games as well as channels being revived, PS2 also has fan servers so those systems still feel alive

I got my Wii U in christmas 2016 and I couldn't really use Miiverse for that long, but I miss having the WaraWara plaza with games and actual people talking. This is so exciting!
I really hope they get this further along just so taking screenshots on 3DS is easier.
Since you have to mod your 3ds anyway for pretendo, until the miiverse screenshots are implemented you can take screenshots with the most widely used cfw, luma3ds (which most homebrew is built for anyway)
it’d be really cool to see mario 3D world’s miiverse functionality back, with how the stamps could be used in messages and that you could race other players through levels, it was really some pretty cool stuff

Yeah, same here. I was sad to see that I just got a 3ds and the miiverse and another function was taken down. Luckily I got it years before they took down the ability to add funds.

With modding tools, I wonder how hard it would be to make a script to grab the data from Super Mario Maker 1, and then recreate the level in Super Mario Maker 2. You'd need to decide what to do with elements in the start area, and also which pipe do you keep when multiple pipes are overlaid. But it would be a cool added function to SMM1/2

This takes me back to the first Xbox, when my friends and me would connect our console to the PC and use remote servers to play each other. Of course then we were tricking the console into thinking it was a LAN setup, but still, the workarounds with Pretendo make me smile.

I can’t believe it’s been five years since Miiverse’s shutdown. I never posted but I found all of the comments endearing or hilarious in games or when you first boot up. The Wii U and 3DS makes me nostalgic for the early/mid 2010’s
