Pat Summit, the University of Tennessee coach garnered eight championships in her 38 seasons and notched 1,098 career victories, more than any other Division I basketball coach.
I would argue Coach K has done something pretty special too. Especially with how classy he was about taking Pat’s spot as winningest college basketball coach.

I remember like it was yesterday, moving from South FL to Knoxville, TN in 2002. My first arrival was a Waffle House on exit 398 (Strawberry Plains Pike). We asked what was the best thing around the city. The young waitress said, "You will never speak a bad word of these two women: Dolly Parton nor Pat Summit." I grew an appreciation for them both while living in Knoxville until 2014 when my job transferred me to Denver. WOMEN UNITE! Please, break the barriers on how powerful and intelligent women can be in a seat of power.

I was not ready for this one LORD knows I was not. She is the only reason I fell in love with women's basketball. I can remember as a child in the early 80's asking my mom to watch this big hair white lady go ham and ever since then I have been in love with her. RIP,RIH,RIL THE COACH OF ALL COACHES PAT HEAD SUMMIT....... YOU WILL BE MISSED!!
What she did for woman’s basketball was incredible she was amazing everything she would say in a postgame press conference you didn’t wanna say anything she was the best she’s so missed I absolutely loved her.
A couple of facts about Pat Summitt you might not know: She has two courts named for her: the Pat H. Summitt court at her Alma Mater UT Martin. And the Summitt at Tennessee. She also worked for the Washington Mystics during the Volunteers off season as a player personnel consultant from 2002 to 2006
The one thing I hate to hear about or witness with the Alzheimer's patients (other than them having it): years and years and YEARS of continual worsening dementia. Fortunately, for Pat Summit and her loved ones there won't have to be that wait for the worse. Yes, she definitely was one of many great forces in women's athletics, athletics period.
Every time i'd see her she would take the time to not just speak and say howdy but she always wanted to know "How's your day going". It's already a tremendous void in the life of the VOL NATION and me . May flights of Angels carry you to your new home Coach. THANK YOU PAT !!! 06 30 16
As a kid growing up in Kingsport Tennessee we didn't go see the Tennessee boys team we went and watched the lady vols and pat summitt. I'm 26 and a guy pat is a hero.
Only Coach that I know of that has two courts bearing her name, the Pat H. Summitt court at her alma mater Tennessee-Martin and of course at Tennessse "The Summitt".
She had to step down for the players and her own safety. She was allowed to still sit behind the team but no longer with the players. I'm sure that was hard for her, but the new coach was hired and that had to be the teams focus. RIP Ms. Summit.

Scary how quick she went downhill. Same is happening to my papaw right now.
She died incredibly young for having Alzheimer's. Especially for having early on-set. It's too bad she gave up her passion. Hopefully no one made her.
