I can’t believe it’s been 30 years! It seems just like yesterday he was here. Beautiful eulogy! I cried too for the loss of someone so kind and funny. ❤❤
Hard to believe that many years have passed. John was one of my favorite comics. Loved his movies. Uncle Buck is one of my all time favorites. I crack up every time I watch it.
Found this on April 2, 2024, the day we learned that Joe Flaherty passed away. Continue to rest in peace John and welcome Joe home when he arrives. Heaven is in for some great laughs when this comedic duo are reunited.
I met John Candy in a bar in Chicago. He stood by the front entrance, shook hands with people, smiled and talked. Then he went to the back of the bar with his friends and everyone left him alone out of respect for what a nice guy he was.
The same thing happened to me but it was near a children's playground. He sat perched upon one of those little horses on a spring and he swayed angelically back and forth. Nobody dare approach him, they simply marveled at his jovial presence. His kindness was like a fatherly pat on the head and we were all but glassy eyed puppies looking up at dad. Then he was joined by Steve Martin and Martin Short. They laughed at the universe with their crow's feet eyes and then disappeared in a comedic fog. I can truly say it was one of the days I've had.
We should all have a friend who could speak so eloquently when we leave this Earth, although, if you were as good of a human being as John Candy was, it makes finding those words a little bit easier.
30 years since this comedy legend passed. John Candy will never be forgotten because of his movie catalogue. My children love his movies so go figure he is going to live forever through his greatness of movie making.
That was a beautiful eulogy. I was a homeless, young, and restless 20-year-old kid just leavin home on my own when i went into a movie theater and saw John Candy in "PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES". It changed my perspective on life and made me realize no matter how bad things look, you can always find humor in it and hope. Thank you john and Steve Martin, and GOD for letting me experience these great spirits in their prime.
I met him. Asked him for his autograph. He smiled and Blushed right up to the top of his head. He was MORE than happy to talk to me, and the other support people [it was a location film shoot taking place on our work site]. He spent his lunch with us just shooting the breeze, talking about everything and nothing of consequence. he was approachable. he was HUMBLE. he was a big fun loving teddy-bear of a man and he was an all-around GREAT guy. Why can't MORE celebrities be like him?
Me and my Mother ran into him in Newmarket when I was around 8. He was so kind and gracious to us both; and it was one of the magical moments of my childhood. It broke my heart when he passed. So sad now that I'm older than he ever got to be. I also never forgot this beautiful eulogy.
You are very lucky indeed. I wish I'd met him at the 1992 Friends of Gilda benefit, along with the rest of the SCTV cast present (save for Harold, Tony & Rick). Other missed opportunities include the sets of PT&A and Canadian Bacon. I would love to have confided to him about the bullying I endured in school. Perhaps he would've set 'em straight.
I worked at a place called Westec Security and I was sent to his home to repair his security system. I asked for a glossy and he the most gracious, down to earth celebrity I ever met in my 20 year career. My impression was that he was like an old friend to me though we had only just met. True story.
I was born the Very Day he died. It was 4:54 AM in the Morning. He would have 2-3 Hours of sleep on this earth with me before his heart took him away to heaven. While it may just be coincidence. Id like to think his spirit helped my out on that troubling day. The doctors didn't know if the 1 month premature baby would be able to survive the night. Well, I did, and I'm still here. God Bless.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Candy soon before he died. He was utterly down to earth, gentle, polite and kind - these are not qualities one encounters with any frequency in Hollywood. He shook my hand, and his soft, gentle hands felt like very large baseball mitts engulfing my small hands. You rarely forget genuine kindness. May God bless his family.
@@OasisJones I was a personal assistant to a hairdresser and she was called to do his make up and hair for an event. Never forget his gentleness and so down to earth.

@@sralyn Oh my gosh, that's so exciting!! Good for you!! If you ever need any support, I'd love to make any kinda small financial support to help get your project published.
(Joan here). I had not seen this before. What a beautiful and moving tribute. I have a 'sorta' John Candy story by proxy. On a walk, my son and mother saw John Candy up close when he was doing a movie (his last I believe) on Gerrard St. in Toronto which was close to where we lived at the time. My mother was thrilled. My son was only 2 at the time so he may have been thrilled that his grandmother was thrilled, but he had no idea who John Candy was. I was just a tad envious. John Candy always made a movie better - even some of those really far out movies that weren't/aren't to my taste. He just had "something" - that ability to portray an annoying or 'woebegotten' character whom you would end up rooting for and adoring by the end of the movie. It was a sad day when John Candy left the world.
John candy was a wonderful human- generous with his time, his humour, his wit. He was my dads favourite- I think partly bc John many things my dad admired- funny, humble, kind, encouraging, proud of his roots and a lover of football. What makes it more tragic is how young John candy was when he left us and how much he accomplished while he was here. My dad left the year after John, and was only a few years older. But when John Candy died, my dad was visibly upset and said “what a great man.. great Canadian. Damm.. “
You somehow ended up in my feed and I'll tell you, I needed that!! I love John Candy and miss him, imagine what he would have created. At least we have all that he did!! Thank you.
And now today on March 4th, 2024 its now 30 years since he left us. And we still mss him dearly!

@@sralyn Oh my gosh, that's so exciting!! Good for you!! If you ever need any support, I'd love to make any kinda small financial support to help get your project published.
If you can get Linda Cardellini to do an interview....
@@TemakiTom I'd love to.
Thanks UA-cam for recommending this to me.
So lucky I was the generation of SCTV Proud Canadian and so proud that we produced so many wonderful Canadian Comedians, Actors and Musicians. 💞
We will miss him so very much...
RIP...You kind sole...
Only person I never met but shed tears for on hearing of his passing.❤
Big hugs.
How blessed are we to have lived at the same time as this wonderful man. We miss you so much, John.
Couldn't agree more
I was crushed when he passed away, I remember it like it was yesterday 😢 I loved his career in its entirety ❤
Yup. Like losing a family member.
Damm.. “
Sorry for both losses. My love goes out to you.
He was loved and brought inspiration to the World.
Both Catherine and John did the final scene where he helps her with a ride to Chicago in Home Alone.
You somehow ended up in my feed and I'll tell you, I needed that!! I love John Candy and miss him, imagine what he would have created. At least we have all that he did!! Thank you.
She spent an amazing amount of time writing this, thinking it through
I’ve seen and heard her interviewed several times. She comes across as your favorite sister. A down to earth warm person
His comedy is pure genius Rest in Peace, Mr. Candy you left way too soon but, you left us your humor. Thank You 😢
