That's actually a better cut count than I expected for factory edge. I instinctively knew there was _some_ reason I kept a knife on me for Toilet Time; Pete solves another mystery. Recycling EVERYTHING has reached new heights, I'm impressed.
A high point is how friendly they are to recycle after a camping trip. I have problems at those dumpsters sometimes. Especially with tents and sleeping bags. So to have a knife that's so easy to recycle after we use it is a nice bonus.
One thing about your sisal rope cutting test: you're ALSO cutting into the cutting board after cutting the rope, which may have more influence on how quickly it dulls than the rope itself. You should loop it in your hand, then cut it. (away from yourself, of course) Also, that chopped-up sisal rope makes EXCELLENT kindling; put it in your tinder box, along with your ferro rod.
check my FAQ video - this sisal does not take a spark, and barely a flame. Also, I have doen cork mat cutting to check how the hardwood effects it, and the cork gets about a 30% extra life. But I figure if I do the same test every time, thats the data. Also I don’t cut in the air mainly cos it would use way more rope, on a surface I can cut in very small bits, aiming for about a centimeter each time
Amazing, i think the Kapara is the most beautiful folding knife I've seen, I don't know why it appeals so much haha, going to have to wait til tax season to get one though with a $180 price tag in the US, can't wait for the full review
LOL..that bathroom clip was hilarious! Batoning with an Atmos..only by you and Advanced Knife Bro would we ever see such hard use test...impressive, lol. I now feel totally safe carrying my Atmos into the field for bush craft use, but, will it still feather stick after doing it? Will it strike a ferro rod? Inquiring minds want to know.
The s30 is good enough, but if you're watching this channel let's face it you probably aren't going to be satisfied with it. I'm getting the manix 2 in 110
Okay I know this video is ancientttt but… I got a friend a kershaw atmos maybe like a year ago, and holy shit that’s got to be the best $30 dollar knife that exists. Bang for buck on that bad boy is wildddddd
A lot of people getting into making knives start out with files since they are easy to heat treat and have the steel harden. If i make you a knife out of a file i think a lot of people would like to see how it holds up in the knife lab. I know i would. I'll pay to ship it to you and if it survives you can keep it. I would like to hear your thoughts on this idea. P. S. Love the Channel i appreciate all the time effort and money put into it
That Knife in the exact same blade and handle shape, but featuring FRN, a Backlock and coming at a lower price point would be the perfect Endura Five imho... I am a big Endura-Fan, but have a few critics which the Kapara eliminates: First, I like that the Endura does not sacrifice too much cutting edge for a choil or Ricasso. The Kapara is similiar in that capacitiy, but on this Knife you can actually choke up comfortabely, unlike with the Endura Second, when cutting on a flat surface with the Endura you cannot utilize the whole length of the edge, cause that guard comes in the way. Not so with the Kapara. Looking forward to your review!
@@CedricAda: In fact I own the Stretch 1 and quite like it! But still it sacrifices more of the cutting edge to a choil / Ricasso than both Endura or especially Kapara. I really like choils, but primarlely not for choking up / getting close to the edge, but for beeing able to push back with the index finger to the "rear end" of the choil. BUT I like the choil to be located mostly in the HANDLE, not on the blade. And, furthermore, on a flat surface the edge of the stretch cannot be used in the full length due to the "guard" sticking out. Concerning the stretch: I am really happy to own the Strecth ONE; I think the current Stretch TWO is a step down: Though more overall length it features less cutting edge and more of the choil in the BLADE and not the handle (Sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language :I am from Austria, Europe, which is often mixed up with AustrALia, where you seem to live... ;-)
I didnt actually think you would baton with the atmos... Lol, At least it still works . The terminus xr IS overpriced . 50 dollars is what it should be considering the steel it uses . Especially when you consider things like the G-10 kizer gemini being about $56 USD right now. I hope you didnt mind me taking a dig at you . I have owned the atmos before and comparatively the sog feels way more heavy duty , hence the snide remark . Thanks for the science lesson !
"HOLY Crap" that cardboard must have hurt . Hey , it seams that Paul Boss heat treat is untouchable , but the sad thing is, that's about all Buck has going for them, just about everything else they do is Crap .
WTF spyderco's is everyone getting that the edge comes at a factory 17 or 18 degrees per side? My endura came with a good 22-24 per side or more and my thin bladed chaparral came at a hair over 20 dps. I didn't measure, I clamped it my system at 20 dps and had materials to take off, a lot on the endura and little on the chaparral.
I think they generally aim for 20 to be compatible with the sharpmaker, but mine are often lower angles, according to my measurers, which admittedly arent atomically checked
One of those cool looking knives with no finger guard so you constantly have the wonderful opportunity to have your hand slide onto the blade. I'll pass. But of course I'm a fan of your knife reviews. One request: don't join the pack and start doing flashlight videos. Ugh! Knives! Always looking for more cool knives or fascinating knife info. Which is what has me checking every day to see what you've got.
Funny, not featuring a pronounced guard is exactly what I like in this knife... so when cutting stuff on a flat surface there is no sticking-out-guard that can come in the way and one can use the whole length cutting edge. And at least the Kapara has some amount of guard, doesn´t it?
Briant Lougan It's not a "fighting" knife designed to stab things/people. It's designed to effectively perform the tasks knives are overwhelmingly called upon to do.
apparently Phillips designed the knife to be good at food prep on a board; something amenable to knocking out healthy snacks in his office as part of a weight-loss effort. in that sense i can see the wisdom in the design. however i would like to see that finger choil deepened and made more steep at the front - i think it would help with both clearance and guardage needs.
@@ciderandthorazine My Kapara has not arrived yet, so I actually never handled the knife. Just from the depictions I guess the finger choil and the amount of guard will be just fine, but that may feel different when I get the knife in hand. Steepening the guard at the front seems like a very good idea though. Making it deeper maybe not so much: One thing I like in the design of the Kapara is its slimness which should result in very good carryability.. So if you deepen the choil any more, the knife could get TOO narrow in the index-finger-area, which imho hinders comfort and control. I have that issue for example with my outdoors-knife, the white river caper (a fixed blade of course): Though I love most things about it, the very deep cutout in the front (which makes a very good guard) does not leave enough "girt" (can you say that? I am not a native speaker in english...) for the index finger

You should love this knife , the edge curves a lot like the Spydie Chef . No surprise since they're both designed for food prep .

Australian design. Met the maker at blade show in melbourne and saw the original. Big win for aussie knifemakers.
