My first really usable CNC was from your company long ago when it was CNC Router Parts. It was a 4x8 table and it was extremely nice. I have since sold it and run a different type table now .I have been familiar with this type of touch plate for a long time and think its very convenient, but in my line of machining I load full sheet after sheet after sheet. I use a fence that runs along the zero plane on my Y and X ,and my home switches are precisely mounted to where the X and the Y fence meet at are zero. So I just load sheets and go, I never have to do the edge finders dance..lol. I have found that no matter the shape I can set it up in Aspire and only worry about Z height, because the fence holds the materiel and the home switches always know where Zero is. This even works on circles and odd shapes that the edge finder ...well cant find if you will. I found this works well to on long multiple hour carvings as I have had power interruption and had to re Home or Zero my machine using my switches and fence. It has never failed me. Before this I have had to start all over and ruined material and lost hours. Try it. I have an old old video explaining it. Im not knocking the edge finder but we dont live in a square world.

Is it possible to touch off the spoil board and then touch off the top of the material to measure the actual material thickness and then modify the gcode(on the fly) to account for the difference in the actual versus the nominal used in the design?
Mach will zero out your work Z axis whenever you use the touch plate. You may be able to pull the machine coordinates after you zero out each surface in the Diagnostics tab I believe to determined the actual material thickness you are working with some simple math.
Interesting thought! This is possible if you want to customize the touch plate VB script in Mach3 yourself. Our current script does not have that functionality.
When I press 'auto tool zero' I don't get a menu it just starts probing in the Z axis? Do I need to set up a script for the X and Y?

Industrial cnc machines have this fixed on the frame of the cnc.
