DTC Tips & Tricks course at dtcuk.co/online_courses/test-... is suitable for experienced learners and international drivers
The sign indicating the national speed limit is a white circle with a black diagonal stripe running across it. You may be used to seeing speed signs in a red circle with the speed limit in. The national speed limit is different for several reasons. Firstly, the speed limit depends on the type of vehicle that you are driving. For car drivers, the national speed limit is 70 mph on Motorways and Dual carriageways. It is 60mph on single-carriageways and 30 mph in a built-up area. In Wales, it's 20 mph in a built-up area.
Secondly, the national speed limit is the default limit, so in the absence of road signs or road markings, the national speed limit will apply. I'm just going to go for a short drive and take you to the road where the national speed limit applies.
Although the national speed limit may apply, the driver must assess the road and traffic conditions, along with weather conditions before deciding on the appropriate speed.

This is what i wanted to know & was very confused. Your lesson was very clear, conceptual & beneficial. After watching this video I will never be confused about speed limits & road types. In just one single video i got to know many things.

Good content. Informative and interesting. Wales is really trying to go crazy with this speed limit thing. How can commerce not get impacted by those super low limits? There needs to be more research done to determine its efficacy.

Thanks Als for you valuable contribution. Looks like I need another video on the 20 mph speed. They actually are considering it in England

Sir, an occasional excess over the speed limit will be natural if the road is clear. i. e. 65 mph when the speed limit is 60 mph. The reason for this question is the foot on the accelerator may not always be so uniform.

Hi. I agree with you. Most police forces will allow you up to 10 over.

On a clear dry condition on dual Carriageway with no traffic in front, must a student touch at least 69mph to show the examiner he/she can handle speed, or would a speed range between 65-68mph suffice? Also, you mentioned about the street lighting. Does the lamp post need to be tall or short in height for a driver to assume it's 30mph?

Hi Talha. Touch 69 mph WOW - Even 60 mph is good enough. The height of the street lighting makes no difference.
On Gov.uk it states, "It shall not be lawful for a person to drive a motor vehicle on a restricted road at a speed exceeding 30 miles per hour...... in England and Wales, there is provided on it a system of street lighting furnished by means of lamps placed not more than 200 yards apart

How examiner will know i m going on 30mph instead 60mph bcoz the readon u mentioned. He will fail me . PLZ answer

Hello 👋. The examiner will expect you to take account the surrounding. If the road is straight and no hazards, you will be expected to drive at 60 mph. But if many hazards, even 30 can be too much.
