    No extra waffling,
    Perfectly concise,
    Clear, informative, direct, giving reasons to his actions, and in a respectful way.
    My driving instructor charged me 35x5 lessons to ramble on about cockpit drill, and didnt teach me nothing else, and yet i learnt so much more through this video. This is a decent and well intentioned young man, that i wish all the success life has to offer.

    I've only been driving for a few months as of now, when I was a beginner I had a hard time shifting and controlling the clutch. Shifting up or down comes a lot easier when you actually hear and feel the car needing to change gears, it's almost like it's crying for you to change it and once you get used to feeling your car, you'll start to change gears much smoother without even looking at the speedometer.

      Hi. I have been a driving instructor for 17 years and will say the same, this is exactly how I teach my pupils. You and Andy will recognise this, you get a pupil who has been driving before and they are doing all the things wrong that you highlighted in your video and when you enquire as to "who told you to do it that way" they say their previous instructor. It makes me despair that there are driving instructors out there that teach car control all the wrong way. Then of course you spend the next 4 lessons trying to break the bad habits they were taught before. @@ZONDOdriving

    7:10 My current driving instructor uses his hands to hold the steering wheel together with my hands to assist me. But his hand prevents me from making full long turns of the steering wheel because it is intertwine with mines. This is why I believe his method of teaching is lacking refinement and is risky because both of our hands will invariably get entangled when making certain maneuvers. I never thought my driving learning experience would be so crude and unsophisticated to the point of being below the basis of any teaching level. 😎💯💪🏿👍🏿

    Been driving for a couple of months now, almost a year. One thing I still ‘fear’ is using the clutch simultaneously with the gas. I donno, maybe has to do with the fact that I was told to never use them in conjunction. And it’s a bit of an issue with steep inclines, hence I avoid them by all means

    Thank you for the video. In the beginning I noticed that at the traffic lights you engaged 1st gear and keept the clutch pedal pressed. This should be avoided as it wears out the clutch.
    How a car should be stopped at the traffic lights is with neutral engaged and the break pushed. This is also the only way that a start stop system is going to be engaged to save on fuel.

    In general if you cant control the clutch in reverse its gonna be hard to use if your on hill in moving traffic

  • @aRandomGurl
    @aRandomGurl 24 дні тому

    I passed my driving test from the first try in August 2022 with zero penalty points, but it’s only few months later (when I got my own car) that I realized there were so many things I still didn’t know about clutch control, that my instructor simply didn’t teach me. I don’t know how, but the car I was driving during the lessons with him didn’t have any issue about leaving only using the clutch and not the gas too. And there’s another thing that absolutely left me in disbelief when I’ve firstly driven my own car, because I simply didn’t understand why it was so different from the other car I was used to: when driving off a hill, my instructor taught me this technique - clutch and brake both down, release the clutch a little bit until the car starts slightly shaking, then release the brake, then fully release the clutch - it’s only now that it seems odd to me, how could that car move off a hill without using the gas AT ALL? Being a beginner, I thought that’s how it works for every car. I had a disastrous day when I drove with my dad and I absolutely couldn’t get the car to move on the hill because of what my instructor told me. And what’s even more weird, the technique I’ve learned from the instructor seemed perfect because in that manner I NEVER got the car to stall or even go an inch backwards. It was never ever going backwards, but the way everyone is teaching, there’s still a slight chance that the car will still go backwards for a very tiny bit. Sorry for the long comment, but I’m thinking there should be an explanation for these, and in other words, thank you for explaining so well and for being such a nice person. I wish you were my instructor.

      No need to apologise for the long comment, I honestly appreciate it. As you've experienced, each car drives slightly differently but now that you know that, the next car you drive should be a lot easier to control as you will have more experience. Good luck with your driving. 🫶🏾

    Nice video, except for the first recomendation. It is better to blip the gas downshift a gear, let the motor star breaking the car on its own and keep doing that for all gears. Less brake wear and you keep better control of the car

  • @mynt253
    @mynt253 2 місяці тому

    There are a lot of good tips in this video, but I can't help but point out some things you did in the video which I find less than optimal.
    Riding the clutch at a stop light is a great way to shorten the life of your throwout bearing. I almost always put the car into neutral while waiting. I've heard the argument that you have to do it in slower cars so you don't take too much time setting off, but having driven a base model Citroën C3 with an oar for a gear lever, I don't see it. You're not trying to make a race start and if you are slow at moving your gear lever, waiting half a second more won't make a difference to most people.
    I agree that you should avoid rough gear changes. It lets you react when something is wrong before grinding gears. But that doesn't mean you should avoid reasonably quick ones. Taking too much (or too little) time shifting means you don't 'catch' the revs and the clutch has to make up for the work you should have done to match the speed of the engine to the speed of the wheels.
    This also applies to shifting down to overtake. Letting the clutch do the work will slow you down before you can use the lower gear to accelerate faster. It also doesn't light up your brake lights.
    Rev matching is somewhat advanced, but very much worth learning. Not only to extend the life of your car's components, but also to increase driving enjoyment.
    Locking arms while turning is bad, which is why we have the hand over hand technique. Some people find shuffling the steering wheel to have its merits.

    • @ZONDOdriving
      @ZONDOdriving  2 місяці тому

      Great analysis. I agree with your point about changing gears quicker. If you take too long on while climbing a hill for instance, there may be an issue. Locking arms is always bad when doing sharp turns, where as crossing arms may be OK.

    You shouldn't let your foot on the clutch pedal.
    It's probably the worst thing you can in general.
    It's just a matter of what do you want to use less, what is the cheapest piece to replace.
    I personnaly want to preserve my clutch, so I use it as little as possible.

    Do you press the gas before the biting point then, while the clutch is barely up from the floor? Or can you add gas while the clutch is on the floor then bring it up to biting point?

    • @ZONDOdriving
      @ZONDOdriving  2 місяці тому +1

      Good question. To keep things simple, it's best to add gas just after getting the biting point. That way it will work whether you're on a slope or flat bit of road.
