  • Rumors from Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic indicate that New York Islanders center Brock Nelson wants to test the free agent market this summer. Plus, who are some other players the Isles could and should look to move before the trade deadline and what are some of the obstacles Lou Lamoriello put in place to make that tougher?
    Plus we update Cole Eiserman and Danny Nelson's performance at the WJCs and preview this weekend's home and home series with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

      It's overdue, Ottobee709. Now it has to happen whether Lou finally wakes up (not holding my breath) or his successor does it. Thanks for the comment and LGI.

    Gil, I agree with your comments on Brock Nelson. As a means of developing the future, trade him now for draft picks and/or younger players. While the team is at it, the same approach should be taken with JGP, Palmieri and Engvall (good luck on that one). The RFAs need to be re-signed as well, but don't go crazy with the no-trade clauses dished out in the past. The trade deadline is creeping up. Bite the bullet and begin the rebuild!

      I agree with you johnsantamaria9370. It is time to retool and Brock, Palms, Pageau, and maybe Lee, all should be part of it. I wish someone would take Engvall, but the Isles will probably have to buy him out this offseason. That means 10 years of him counting against the cap at a reduced rate. Thanks for the comment and LGI.

    I know I commented earlier but I would like to thank Mr Nelson for his services with this team and respect him a lot for being honest and knowing that by Lou being stubborn he’s forcing Lou to trade him for assets that will help this teams future, if only Tavares had done the same.

    We can’t sign 2 - 34 year olds and commit $ and term to them and they know it. Certainly with the make up of this team and current performance. We need to trade Nelson and Palmeri and get some picks and prospects. No option.

    @kpowers9215 4 дні тому +4

    Like I said before trade 29 and 21 while they will provide value, I’d even try to ship Lee if possible even if you have to absorb 2 million of his salary, 18 should be bought out after this season and hopefully we continue to tank for James hagens although they say any of the top 4 picks you can’t go wrong with, with some much needed cap space they can be contenders if they sign the right players in free agency, or trade for a guy like Shane pinto, you think eiserman will be ready next year?

    • @LockedOnIslanders
      @LockedOnIslanders  4 дні тому

      I'd make all of those moves, kpowers9215, but Lou probably won't. If Brock insists he wants to test the market, he may force Lou's hand but if the Isles are even remotely close to a playoff spot at the deadline, I wonder if he'd still hang on to Brock and Palms to try to sneak in. I think Eiserman is at least a year or two away after this season. Check out our 12/25 show with Hadi of LO NHL Prospects for more on that. Thanks for the comment and LGI.

    I think Brock's time with the Islanders is coming to an end. Lou needs to be creative to get the most in a deal now. There are many teams out there that he can help for a push to a Stanley Cup. If we lose him for nothing at the end of the season that would be a travesty. Have a great weekend GIL. LGI

    Good morning team! Gil, honestly, I don't blame Nelson for testing the waters. He must have a thought something would be on the horizon for him this season. I truly wish he was playing better, as in previous years. His stock may have gone down a bit. Of course I'm going to wish him, and any other current Islander well, if they remain an Islander or not. I saw your reply to my comment yesterday. I don't think we're going to take 3 points from the Pens this weekend either, but I'm hopeful lol. Everyone, have a great day today and weekend. Enjoy the games. See you all again Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

    • @anticensorshipsociety1063
      @anticensorshipsociety1063 4 дні тому +2

      We do kind of own the Pens in the way other certain other teams seem to own us. The inconsistent nature of the season tells me they will be fine this weekend and crap the bed against the Leafs after, though the Isles also do well against the Leafs strangely enough. if it were Nashville and Seattle I wouldn't even hope for a point as we never beat those two, as an example.

    • @LockedOnIslanders
      @LockedOnIslanders  4 дні тому +1

      Tony, I also would wish Brock well wherever he ends up, except when he faces the Isles. It won't be easy to take 3 points against the Penguins. They are playing better lately, but hopefully the Isles respond to their no show against Buffalo. Thanks for the comment, Tony, have a great weekend and LGI.

    I completely agree with pretty much everything you said needs to be done before the trade deadline.
    The problem is that if Lou Lamarello is still the GM by the time the trade deadline rolls around, he will just sit on his hands as the deadline passes, and then tell the media that there were no deals that to him made sense to be made and we will be stuck in the muddy middle until serious changes are made!!
    So I would like to see someone replace Lou Lamarello and not his son Chris! I'm sorry, but nepotism is not needed here!
    I agree that Pierre Engvall needs to be bought out. I felt like you did they gave him too much term and money being at best a 3rd liner!!

    • @LockedOnIslanders
      @LockedOnIslanders  4 дні тому

      I agree mst3knislesfan1. The time for change was a year or two ago, in my opinion, but it has to be done before the trade deadline. The longer the team waits to make moves, the longer the retool will take and the lower value the trade chips will have. Heck, Brock will leave for nothing if he isn't traded at the deadline. Thanks for the comment and LGI.

    @Drew7878 4 дні тому +1

    I think the most important and best decision the ownership can make moving forward is to get rid of LOU. Lou was a great manager but I think he has struggled to adjust to the salary cap era. In today’s NHL it takes a different approach to managing a team to be successful for years to come and I just think Lou is set in his old ways and it just doesn’t work. The long term contracts with no trade/no movement clauses are a killer. There is no incentive or no pressure on the players to preform day in and day out because no matter what they get to stay. Yes I get it, players build lives in the communities they live in for 4,5,6 years or longer but at the end of the day it’s a business and you need to give the players a reason to want to perform at the highest level if they want to keep playing here and those that don’t should be moved. Like you said Gil, players over a long time get too comfortable because they know it will be status quo no matter how they play. The ownership needs to start thinking about the future of this team and start making decisions now to position the organization for long term success in the future. A full rebuild is what’s needed.

    • @LockedOnIslanders

    If we don't trade Nelson by the deadline, it's a missed opportunity to retool for the future, because this Isles team has run it's course. Talent, youth and speed is what this team lacks, so throw the towel in this year and lets build a better future. Good. 29 can force louzer's hand to make a trade at tdl. Should be plenty of interest in 29 as 2 c added depth scorer in top 6 for contender even tho most contenders lack picks/prospects. Laffs, jets, la possible. Move 21 as well. No excuse to keep or sink more $$$'s for 2 fwds. approaching mid 30's. No telling what louzer will do since he has no grasp of or how to read trade market. No one knows how many trades louzer has turned down last two tdl's. Could have moved 24 probably 40 as well in '22. 44 last tdl. fkn buffoon of a gm.
