Hopefully next year we bring in our young kids, there’s no more fun in our games, fan of a team that plays when they feel like playing well is not acceptable thanks Gil
Good morning team! Gil, I was very impressed by the back up goalies. Same old story though, PK let us down yesterday. Just my opinion of course. Fix this one issue and I feel we wouldn't be fighting to stay out of the basement. No doubt, at the moment, the Islanders are a sub par team. That is the honest truth about it. Even if the team goes on a dynamic win streak, I can honestly say we would be better off not making the playoffs this season. The need is to get better for the long term, not just for this season. Everyone, have a wonderful day! See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
I agree Tony, but Lou won't retool or rebuild which is what needs to happen. I hope they can at least play a little better and with more heart. Thanks for the comment and LGI
IGood 🌄 Gil, how are you? The Islanders went Jekyll and Hyde this weekend, winning at UBS Arena 6-3 and losing 3-2 in Pittsburgh. Casey Czisikus looked great on his breakaway goal, Anders Lee looked good, too. Maxim Tsyplakov's taking way too many stupid penalties. JG Pageou scored a goal as well. 🐐 Tsyplakov for the 2 penalties. Hero, Casey Czisikus, for his breakaway goal. Yesterday's game, Marcus Hogberg started, and he looked pretty good, too. Why Patrick Roy pulled him with 7 minutes to go I don't know. Patrick Roy was complimentary of Marcus Hogberg. I hope Patrick Roy starts Hogberg again. Getting off track, the Islanders played everyone in the Metro Division except the Flyers I could be wrong. Patrick Roy called them out, and high ⏲️, too. He said after they gave up the 2nd goal their ❤ stopped being in it. They lost confidence in themselves. Not only do they need to make some changes. Hero, Marcus Hogberg for keeping them in the game. 🐐 the PK. HAPPY 🎂, DAVE HUDSON, an original Islander. On 03/03/1973, Hudson scored a PP goal and 4 assists. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go, I saw Game 6 of the 1980 Finals again. Out of all 4 Stanley Cup Championships, this one was my favorite. 👀 Bob Nystrom score the OT goal was heaven, and every 🚗, whether at the Coliseum or on the road, especially going west in thru Midtown Tunnel was honking LETS GO ISLANDERS. SNL showed them some ❤ on their Weekend Update edition, even if it was for nearly 20 seconds. Of course, Ken Morrow got some silver to go with the gold 🏅, and it took our minds off the American hostages in Iran, Trots got the Conn Smythe 🏆, and we kept guessing WHO SHOT JR and we had to wait 6 months for the answer. NOW, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Ah, 1980. Some great memories Cindy. Can they play a bit more consistently? I doubt it with the current roster, but I hope I'm wrong. Let's see what happens tomorrow afternoon vs the Leafs. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Gil, I’d much rather watch team USA. As far as I’m concerned Danny Nelson and Cole Eiserman can start for the isles next season. Bring the kid in from Wisconsin (Finley I think) and he can play to. Kid can fly. And while we’re at it I’ll take iskakov back from the khl. lol. Let’s get senile Lou out of here and a new gm in place before the deadline. Keep barzy,Bo,duclair,Dobson, Sorokin,George,Romanov , sippy cup ,I guess and the rest can go. Let’s get an assistant gm from Carolina or Dallas (franchises that have a clue) and let’s start hopefully a Washington style retool.
A lot of NTCs and bad contracts that make that difficult. Eiserman and Nelson and Finley all need more time, I doubt they're really NHL ready this fall. I'd love them to be, but most scouts feel they need more time. There is a core to build around, but Lou backed himself into a hole. Thanks for the comment, Robert, LGI.
I'm not surprise. Roy calls them out. I've heard that before. They ain't getting a number one for Brock. I think they can get one for Anders Lee, though.
@@skiinggator All I said was that Brock can't fetch you a number 1 pick. Anders Lee has been the best Islander this season; plus he's a team leader which if valuable.
I think they will get a first for Brock. He has 3 straight 30-plus goal seasons and he's a rental since his contract ends this summer. Lee has one more year left and even though he is playing better, he is not worth $7 million per year even now and he has one more year left on his deal. Either way, the Isles should be looking to move some of their older players like Lee, Nelson, Palmieri, Pageau, etc. Thanks for the comment, MrAschiff. LGI
It's time to clean the swamp Gil..... I'm just so tired watching this team play hockey... they ice the puck for no reason, give aways for no reason at all, the pp is terrible, pk is terrible, they are so content on just dumping the puck out, all this is a recipe for disaster.... this team at best, is a 500 team....
I agree, aramanookian. Change needs to come to this roster. Their ceiling is barely making the playoffs. Lou won't do anything to change the locker room. Thanks for the comment and LGI
The issue would be the cap. They'd need to make a corresponding move. On talent alone, it's a worthwhile gamble but I don't expect Lou to do it. Thanks for the comment larrysabo799. Happy New Year and LGI.
Next year yes bring in nelson and cole, along with finely kid has speed! And get rid o,f nelson.palmieri, lee, cizikas, and faching, and dump the contracts of Mayfield and engval.and get rid of louzer.
Typical isle weekend. w one L one gain 2 pts. give them back. At least hogberg was good. Isles tried to play comeback this time yet couldn't do it. pk collapse once again. When is louzer gonna realize sometimes the pk is simple if you have a weapon to use on it to keep opposing pp in check? Remember grabner? 40 was a pk weapon because his speed could be utilized on it to break up pp and get breakaways out of it on pk. Unless useless 18 suddenly becomes grabs louzer is shit out of luck. Roy very pissed at constantly lousy pk. Pens beat isles with pp even with 87, 71 not getting pts. on it. Fkn pathetic. Isles always struggle to score and L after 6 g outbursts. In 6-3 w Isles got fired up because they had 4 days to sit on that sabre debacle. That is the norm. Still not a playoff caliber team that needs to start selling-SOON. And here are the last 8 nhl teams to finish with last ranked pp/pk one season- '95-'96 sens. '06-'07 flyers. '13-'14 sabres. '17-'18 yotes. '19-'20 wings. '20-'21 devils. '21-'22 habs. '22-'23 hawks. What do these teams all have in common? Also '10-'11 nj devils finished last in pp, pk missed playoffs coached by none other than maclean for 33 games also louzer gm of that team who fired maclean after 33 games. See the pp problem once again louzer? Old stubborn fool never learns.
The numbers are clear: this team isn't a playoff team right now. Thanks for the comment, Steven. Not holding my breath that Lou will change direction and get younger, faster and more skilled. LGI
One thing you didn't discuss and probably because it ended up being irrelevant. But I was furious over the goalie interference call on Duclair! I dont understand at all.? I felt like he did not enter the crease on his own. He was clearly pushed into the goalie. But yet it was decided very quickly. I'm getting annoyed with all the interference calls around the league. This is a issue that clearly needs to be addressed.
Yeah, it was a questionable call. He was definitely in the crease and made contact with the goalie but it did look like he was pushed in. Thanks for the comment, James. LGI
Didn’t think Pens were very good in their own end in the second game. Playing Homberg and not getting clobbered is a blessing. Again the penalty killing is so bad, but at least the power play shows promise. 42 shots and none in the last 5 minutes or it would have been more. Also they weren’t good as they usually are on face offs. If this team hadn’t lost Barzy, Bo and Duc for large parts of the year already they would be in the chase. The brightest spot is George. I wonder what offensive moves he has. I know he is thinking D first. Start Hogberg in Toronto. Matthews prob returns so I would go for it.
Most scouts don't see George as having a lot of offensive upside. More steady than dynamic. But he's smart and efficient in his own zone. We need better play and that means making changes to the roster. Even before the injuries, this team was inconsistent. Thanks for the comment, Alex and LGI.
problem is bottom of the east is so bad with the rangers falling out that we are still not far enough out of this that lou is a seller...i just don't see it. gonna spend a lot of money to re sign brock (who is on the downside but will get paid if he tests free agency) and overpay dobson (who is infuriating to watch this year)
That's my fear, too, foleydvm. Unless the Isles are more than 10 points out of a playoff berth at the deadline, Lou won't sell. He may not sell anyway because he's loyal to "his guys." Thanks for the comment and LGI.
I would trade him, too. Lou won't. Even now, he's not worth the $7 million cap hit he's got. But they can get something for him at the deadline but again, it won't be done with Lou. His value will only go down so the trade makes sense. Thanks for the comment, lippscantelon9144. Happy New Year and LGI.
Team has a bad habit of lazy play. Just very low effort - always looking for the easy out. Most of them seem to be allergic to skating with the puck. Some of them treat it like a hot potato. Also, i will ask again about the special teams coaches. When do we try something new?
We changed PK coaches over the offseason but no change in the results. PP same coach, results are worse. Thanks for the comment, Skiiinggator. The team does need more heart and effort, but that requires a roster change. Lou isn't going there. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Gm Gil. The sloppy penalty Dobson took against Crosby summed up the season. Specifically the apathy in the team's play. while I appreciate Roy calling out the team, the roster is just terrible. Millions of dollars are being spent on grossly underperforming players like Palmeri, Lee, Dobson, Engvall, Horvat, Nelson, Mayfield, and Barzal.
To say the Isles didn't spend money wisely is a major understatement. The bad contracts with too much money, too much term and NTCs are preventing Lou from improving this team (that and he is loyal to his "guys." Thanks for the comment, Eric. LGI
Happy New Year, Gil, also happy Hanukkah. At least they got games against the 2 teams that they play well against Pittsburgh and Toronto. But it doesn't matter anymore, you know it, and I know it. As team usa goes this kid Eiserman scores goals yes but as usual he's undersize. I think we draft all wrong. I like Nelson better. I know we need offense but in the east you better be big enough to take the punishment.
Thanks, Joseph and happy New Year to you, too. I hope they at least show some heart and physicality. As for the draft, yes, it's a mess and the bad situation in Bridgeport shows it. I also like Danny Nelson. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
It's time to part ways with Nelson and Palms. Thank you for all you've done but we need to get younger and way faster.
Agree 100 percent, Chris. Now it's up to Lou and ownership to make that happen. Not sure they will. Thanks for the comment and LGI
