In the first issue of action comics, he breaks into a governor's mansion to force him to stop the execution of an innocent man, punches a wife beater across a room, leaves a mob boss dangling from power lines and brings a war profiteer up to the top of the capitol building and threatens to drop him. He's entirely willing to scare people straight.
People seem to forget that Superman is human (Kryptonian technically) despite his powers. Regardless of what he can do it's what lies in his heart that makes him who he is. Take away the powers and you still have superman. Clark would do anything in his power to help those in need with or without powers. He gets angry like the rest of us, petty like the rest of us, selfish, jealous, etc. But I agree that soldier needs to change his pants

For example, at the beginning of Smallville, bullets caused bruises. Eventually, as he got older, they did nothing. At first, he was barely faster than a bullet. Later, he was fast enough to travel to another country in a couple of seconds.

Possibly, he did move noticeably quicker than Jordan, who doesn’t have superspeed, maybe Superman’s many powers (and maybe his few weaknesses) are divided among his sons. It could also just have been done for dramatic timing, so we don’t see his hand intercepting in slow motion.
