- This country is often confused for a being in Europe. Although the food and culture draws many influences from Europe, this country is situated in Asia. This is ARMENIA!! Asia's hidden street food paradise. We're taking you across the beautiful Armenian countryside to taste all things BBQ! From vertical BBQ Khorovats to freshly cooked trout, Armenians know how to barbecue. Between BBQ's we'll stop to see the sights of ancient Armenia, which means incredible monasteries. To finish off the day we're taking you for a lesson with an Armenian masterchef to make a traditional dessert called ghapama.

Dear friend, I am Armenian in Australia. Barbeqyu in tondyr is really very tasty because it is not just fried but also stewed. But there is a better one. The firewood inside should be cut from grape bushes. Such brushwood betrays a special taste and it is divinely delicious

I have never seen vertical BBQ, so I am very happy that Luke introduced Armenian barbecue to us!
However, I have to applaud Armenia’s dessert ghapama, it’s so tempting and the making process is like watching the chef create a work of art!

Hi Luke, thank you, what a great experience watching you experiencing Armenia, the monasteries, the nature, the culinary arts and traditions. The only thing missing was the unique antient Armenian duduk music, that would make everything more harmonious. If you noticed, the heart of Yerevan is the opera/ballet building, absolutely worth visiting to see opera Anush, or enjoy the sounds of the folk song "Ghapama", the dessert you tried, and I should mention - I've never had it cold, love having it hot with after dinner tea. Hope you'll visit Lake Sevan, and enjoy the views, the monastery, dining by the water and enjoy the catch of the day.. Thanks again!

As Armenian, I think that we are at the South East corner of Europe, and culturally we are closer to Europe because we are Christians. However, being a frontier of Christianity, our culture is a mix of East and West.
Even our cuisine, not the traditional one, but the modern one, is a fusion of many influences that were brought back to Motherland Armenia by repatriants after the Genocide. That is why we have influences like French pastry, Middle East cousine, Georgian cuisine and even Ukrainian and Russian ones.
We don't have to be Europians to prove something to the world - we have such an old, rich and unique culture that is already a treasure which belongs to the whole humanity.
