    Military drones do not have to be expensive.
    You can go into the shops here in Ireland and buy a camera drone from anywhere around under 50 euro, to a few thousand euro. Which is close to the same in US dollars.
    Company level commanders should have access to a handful of drone scout operators. And a decent drone that flies hugh enough to not be seen by insurgents, while still being able to clearly see them.
    Ideally this should be a squad level thing. As in a combat squad, in direct radio communications with a handful of drone operators, watching them from above, and the drone being a radio transmitter so they can always communicate with outside assets. These drones shouldn't cost over €100,000 each, and that's being very generous.
    They can be used to direct artillery fire support to reduce the weight requirement of offensive weapons on the drone.
    As in the drone operators also having a remote control for an automated artillery system for the squad....well, for important missions, because budgets.
    I could be totally wrong here though. But one thing I know, is that not every Military scout drone has to cost over 100,000 dollars or euro.
    Gangsters here in Ireland, apparently use off the shelf drones to look out for police cars.

    • @AsianPaulConrad
      @AsianPaulConrad 2 роки тому +1

      drone software might be the reason for the cost. im sure there's a lot more going on in there compared to a civilian off the shelf drone.

    • @davidodonovan1699
      @davidodonovan1699 2 роки тому

      @@AsianPaulConrad Yes, it definitely is. Having said that, that's a cost that doesn't really increase with numbers.
      Think of it like a news reporter and camera crew the ground of a news story.
      It doesn't matter if there is one person watching of five million people watching, the cost to pay for them, their equipment, getting them to the location, etc, still has a minimum requirement to make it possible to do.
      What makes it practically possible is that the income gained from so many people watching it gets more and more financially sustainable, the more people do watch it.
      Simular to programming a major gaming console brand.
      You don't pay for Nintendo or PlayStation's design teams by selling a small amount of consoles. It has to be mass production to make sence.
      So mass production of military drones will shrink the cost of programming overall.
      There can be increasing levels of budget for higher priority specific squads and missions.
      But one or two $10,000 blimp drones, flying as a scout, radio signal transmitter, etc, for a million dollar plus vehicle and it's crew, isn't asking a lot, relatively speaking.
      Facial recognition technology could be used for scanning a crowd for known insurgents, weapon recognition (I mean spotting weapons, particularly if they seem to be pointed towards the vehicle), ease of after action reports, etc.
      Plus, if artillery support is requested, the artillery can double check the drone phootage at a glance, to see if whoever called in the fire, didn't do the mistake of accidentally calling in his or her own position, instead of the targets position...which apparently is a thing that happens in real life, under the stress of combat.

    • @davidodonovan1699

    Speaking of speakers on a tank reminded me of one my favourite story from reddit.
    You're going to have to bare with me it was a while ago and I am trying to remember it also not military so don't know the lingo.
    An American squad was pinned down in the middle of the street by the taliban and radio'd in for some reinforcements. They got there wish when a British tank platoon answered asking for there co-ords. The R.O gave them the coordinates and the Americans waited 5-10 minutes taking the odd pot shot to keep the taliban from advancing and overrunning their position. When off in the distance they heard something weird coming, and the next second they saw the British tank crews screaming around the corner with Vengaboys on FULL BLAST the taliban then shifted their attention and fire to the tanks and destroyed one of the speakers. Which according to the Americans was a massive mistake as they watched the turrets of these three tanks turn towards the taliban and erased them from existence. After it was deemed to be clear the platoon leader of the British tank crew opens his hatch pops out and asks the Americans "anyone for a spot of tea chaps" to which the squad leader of the Americans replied "You are some fucking crazy Brits and we are dam sure glad to see you fuckers"
    I have no idea if this is true or not but if it is, I am so proud to be British

    Fun fact arma 3 does have proper tree penitration for bullets so you have to treat all trees as thinner than they are. That makes leaning around a tree more exposing than it looks since the edge of the tree only slows down and misdirects the bullet (this can save you though cause some armor can shrugg off ricochets).
    As for the shrapnel and the corrugated wall, shrapnel is a modded feature the base game doesn't have it, so the modders probably didn't give the shrapnel proper ballistics

    Because, as you say, probably 5 minutes of the hour long meeting is devoted to stuff that’s relevant to your job. Yet, for some reason, you can’t just leave and get back to all that work waiting for you on your desk when your part of the meeting is over, but instead you have to sit there and listen to info which is useless to you and which is all probably already contained in the meeting packets everyone gets anyway.

    The only case where I can see "doomsday rounds" being real is if someone takes KS-23, takes 23mm HE shells from AA gun that "donated" the barrel to it and crams said shell into KS-23 case. However that creates several problems: 1)extremely heavy(relative to caliber) shell with small shotgun powder charge creates extremely low velocity; 2)it would double the length of the full round so you can no longer pump it; 3)extremely heavy(relative to caliber) shell in a gun that is already recoiling on the edge of human physique? Yeah, recoil would be too much for consequetive shots.
    However 20-25mm is that sweet spot where two "howitzers" of infantry small arms world meet. Shotguns and grenade launchers. Both low velocity high caliber gun with dozens of ammo types each. Multitools of gun world.

    I know the sound levels aren't the same, but when I was a gardener I used to use ear defenders while operating 2 stroke weed hackers (strimmers) and they managed to block out most of the noise while still being able to hear people shouting at me through the noise. Those were just regular Peltor ear defenders. I suppose they might be too large to wear with a helmet though unless they could be incorporated onto them.

    Re gunfire related hearing loss. For the most part it's only the higher frequencies that are damaged by it, and not as bad as you'd expect. Tinnitus is a big part of it though, and can be the more debilitating part of it. Also the hardest to quantify from a compensation POV. Because it's only the higher frequencies lost, the standard service compensation here in the UK uses it to minimise the compensation as you'll still hear voices etc (1-3kHz iirc) where the high frequency loss means you'll struggle in crowds/high background.
    Also worth noting, hearing loss due to explosions/blast injury is a separate thing.

    My guess about Nevil is that he has a bad cleft pallette/hare lip preventing enunciating certain consonants like 't'. I think 'simp' got named more like 8 years ago, but I'm not sure.

    Hello, sir! About the penetration capabilities of a round, in ArmA III's virtual training course you get to test with a very neat tracer and post penetration behaviour of each caliber on modern warfare (infantry only) that also explains cover/concealment, in which targets with plate carriers may or may not stop a round after it punches through a certain material. Ricochets are also traced and shown, pretty neat! I heartily recommend you checking it out, there are videos here about that part. Cheers, mate.
