The Call Of Ktulu is a Metal instrumental classic. Metallica's bassist (deceased) Cliff Burton was a Classical Music aficionado & used to encourage the rest of the band to listen to Bach & Mahler. It certainly shows in the way they wrote their early albums. I've watched a few more of your vids and the way you guys have the two pronged approach to this is incredible - Rich is buzzing off the sounds and the fact that he knows what's about to happen, then when it does the satisfying 'my work here is done' smile, followed by Kel's heartfelt but informative analysis of what this music does for people backed up by her clear technical expertise in all things musical is what this shit is all about. This was the first metal song I heard as a teenager in the 80s. I was a big fan of H P Lovecraft's writing at the time, and also a big fan of Dungeons & Dragons, but I'd just moved to a new city and didn't know anyone who played D&D. Then I made a friend who was into both, who introduced me to another friend of like mind and we started a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game that lasted for all of high school. Musically I was a blank slate - didn't really have any idea of what I liked for myself. Kinda knew what I didn't really like, but no really strong opinions in any direction. Then one of my new friends learned I liked Lovecraft and said "listen to this Metallica song called Call of Ktulu" to which I was like "eww metal?". Because to me at that time "metal" meant Bon Jovi or Poison, which I couldn't stand. This is the track that changed all of that. This was the first time I understood that metal could contain real talent and ability. And I was hooked.
I know how she feels. This song, "Orion", and, (believe it or not), the song "Zombie" , by the Cranberries, gives me chills , and goosebumps EVERY TIME I hear them!! To give credit where it's due,.... Cliff Burton was a musical GENIUS, and this world is sadder place without him in it.....
Same. Orion is good but it’s overrated. I like Ktulu way more and Suicide and Redemption more than Orion. To Live is To Die and Anesthesia are just as enjoyable to me as Orion is
this track holds a very special place in my heart. i heard it first in 2002 and immediately fell in love with it! 20 years later it still gives me goosebumps!

I know I'm late to the party here, I'm just now discovering your channel. But let me just say, not only has this music been a staple in my upbringing, and by my own choice. I grew up listening to my dad's classic rock all my young life and could name every band that came on the radio bc he'd always ask after the 1st 2 seconds of any song "Who's this?" Lol but I chose to venture out past that genre bc my ear wanted something thicker, a little more muscle in the tone. And Metallica was the gateway drug when I was 13. Call of Ktlulu, Orion, To Live is to Die....those were my go-to songs to show others that it's not all screaming and beating on detuned guitars. These guys were barely 22 years old when they recorded this. The degree of talent to play at such a high level and being that young always amazed me. I absolutely love your reactions to this music. Bc you already have a mind for music, although a much different sound, but equally as complicated, your senses for what well played music sounds like are already tuned for it. Like you said, without the classics, nothing would be what it is today. For the most part, music like this is rarely produced anymore and if so, with little recognition. I'm a huge fan of all types of music and have watched quite a few of your videos but never commented. I have to admit this is the first time I've listened to a Metallica piece - have always resisted heavy metal - but I admit I loved it and will be added them to my playlists. Great comments too, Kel. You go girl!!
"People who leave shitty comments" are people who do not appreciate real music that is actually played and not created through a template computer program. Awesome reaction. Keep up the great work.
As an analog writer/percussionist, nothing makes me more disgusted that most music these days are put together by hitting 3-10 keys on a computer and having someone sing to it. Now even, the vocalists F**k ups are corrected. The last band I had took three years working one day a week together to have a three hours worth of set lists.
Been quite a long time since I heard this song, brings back some memories, thanks for sharing it and appreciating what these fine young artist known as Metallica did over 35 years ago. Quite a beautiful creation it was and really pretty ground breaking ideas/musicianship for the time and genre. Some stuff along a similar vein from Iron maiden Powerslave, somehwere in time or 7th son albums would be great to react to for Kel if you haven't introduced already. They have some great unique melodic stuff in that era.
I don't know why I always feel bad when Kel cries over a reaction, I definitely shouldn't feel bad.... she's having the most genuine reaction of all......but I don't want anyone to cry!!!
I love Kel finding new joy and rich finding joy in hers and then here we are on the outside looking in and getting the same thing out. Ty. I try to listen to songs as though they are someones favorite and look for what they may hear.
I think with your classical music upbringing, you would really enjoy Metallica's S&M album. It's a bunch of their songs played live with the San Francisco Phil Harmonic Orchestra. And one new song, No Leaf Clover they made for this album. It's pretty damn cool. I've always been a rocker/metealhead, but I have always found watching a symphony perform to be pretty amazing. Just the amount of musicians that come together and play in such amazing harmony.

Keep up with what you're trying to achieve and have much love from me and my own. Like Phil from PANFUCKINGTERA Says "Fuck'em if they can't take a joke. Much love guys.... Always
Preach sister preach 🤘🏽🤘🏽 indeed the level of technicality that goes into this music is tremendous and each of those musicians has been well educated musically which added to their already monsterous gift to make outstanding musicians who are proving to surpass the rest of time.
Well Kel, here in Portugal we have a saying that fully applies to your speech at the end "Quem fala assim não é gago" which translates to "Whoever speaks like that isn't a stutterer". It's a saying for whoever speaks their mind must be heard... I don't really know to whom it was but I really hope those people hear you. And I loved the energy you transmitted during the song, because it's been extremely rare to find reactions where the reactor really cares about the instrumental part of metal songs. Most of the reactions from those that were into other genres I've seen around youtube are, almost ever, reacting to the singer instead of the whole piece. So it was really refreshing.
The only thing i can say about Metallica is I miss Cliff Burton his amazing basswark drove metallica in the earlier days. His bass driven effect laden brilliance drove this song to hell and back. Definitely best era Metallica MUYA 🤘🤘
Thank you guys! My first time hearing this amazing song as well. Kel, love your open minded approach to a wide musical offerings. I highly recommend Kongar-ol-Ondar's LP "Back Tuva Future"! I understand Kel may well be on the spectrum. I am too. Our little Elven sprite. :) There is a way of seeing and hearing that just doesn't translate outside of our way of touching the music in our hearts and minds the way it does with us 'touched' folk ... I am not musically inclined, but am an eclectic and twisted artist, so I get where the 2nd level of feeling you get for music Kel. Glad you two found each other. She needs you as much as you need her in life and mind of what you love and share with each other. Great combo. WAAAY belated ... sorry about your son, I've watched you both for years and never said anything, think he would be proud you are not turning inward, but outward on music because of that. Glad you are still plugging away at it! Best wishes to you and keep up the good work!
I think what Kel was trying to say is that Classical music is like heavy metal without electricity. These are classically trained guys. Metallica kicks ass.
I just subbed. I watched a handful. I meant to post a longer comment. But never mind. I know the reactions are genuine. Kel's eardrums have the ability to transmit the musical sound waves to every single cell in her body, especially her neurons. I hope you guys would still continue the channel. @@Kel.N.RichReactions Much appreciated and you bet I will stick around! I would also recommend maybe trying our some Metal Church - Metal Church or Annihilator- Alice in Hell! Btw, I believe I am located near your neck of the woods - in Fort Lauderdale. Cheers to you Kel and Rich!!! 😊🤘🤘
You two are both so cool and awesome. Thank you for your channel. Love love you guys. Keep reacting and rocking
I always knew it was out there. Wow! That brought tears to my eyes. Love you guys.
Nice one KelnRich. Another epic Metallica instrumental masterpiece!
Hey guys, i hope the year of 2023 will find you healthy and happy.
Your wife's reactions are the same as mine when i first heard that masterpiece. She reminded me the chills that it gave me back then.
man that wah wah bass is killer!!!!
The first time I heard this song was in 1985 and I love it then and I still loved and it’s been 35+ years and it sounds great
when that first bass riff kicks in my goosebumps get goosebumps. Edited after hearing her opinion. That is the most honest, and heartfelt reaction to any song I've ever heard.
if you read someday the novels of Lovecraft you'll see that this music leads you really into the deepest of the madness and fantastic of these stories... it's really the atmosphere of these stories in music :)
Well said Kel! You guys are great, keep on this journey 🎸🤘😀

I'm a huge fan of all types of music and have watched quite a few of your videos but never commented. I have to admit this is the first time I've listened to a Metallica piece - have always resisted heavy metal - but I admit I loved it and will be added them to my playlists. Great comments too, Kel. You go girl!!
Great tune, and very heartfelt. Happy to subscribe
I love you guys. Thanks for being real....Cheers!!
*** STANDING OVATION *** Well said, Kel. Very well said.
I love Kel finding new joy and rich finding joy in hers and then here we are on the outside looking in and getting the same thing out. Ty. I try to listen to songs as though they are someones favorite and look for what they may hear.
Kel you are awesome for your true feelings about this. I totally agree with everything you said
I think with your classical music upbringing, you would really enjoy Metallica's S&M album. It's a bunch of their songs played live with the San Francisco Phil Harmonic Orchestra. And one new song, No Leaf Clover they made for this album. It's pretty damn cool. I've always been a rocker/metealhead, but I have always found watching a symphony perform to be pretty amazing. Just the amount of musicians that come together and play in such amazing harmony.
rip cliff burton. Metallica never was the same without him
Agree, however, shame Jason didnt get more occasion to show his talent... First 3 albums is Metallica, then ...
it reminds me my first reaction when I heard this song in 1984. Amazing song. Greetings from Brazil
br ai sim
Just discovered you guys today for the first time. Your connection is inspiring. The way she looks at you bro! You're a lucky man. I'm now locked in.
Sweet! Welcome Jerry. Our archived videos without the new intro (explaining who we are and...) are what they are...for the day, it was relevant. Be sure to click on a newer video that has the proper intro to learn about what the channel is...
Thanks so much for being a part of our community. Have a as super day!!!
I'm 45 and still enjoy this song and eventually will be able play it
This is perfect horror movie music. When i read Steven Kings "IT", i was a teenager up late reading, listening to this on my stereo. This is the last song on the album.
Loves you, from Russia! Great reaction to the greatest composition!
🤘
I got the classical vibe from this to. It's an amazing song.
I've been watching and watching you guys grow for the past year or so. And this is the first time Kel made me tear up.. you both are awesome and caring people and have made my bad days turn into happy ones. Keep up with what you're trying to achieve and have much love from me and my own. Like Phil from PANFUCKINGTERA Says "Fuck'em if they can't take a joke. Much love guys.... Always
I love the new intro.
Thanks for mentioning that Stuart. It gives it some class and a little warm up. You rock for speaking up.
Preach sister preach 🤘🏽🤘🏽 indeed the level of technicality that goes into this music is tremendous and each of those musicians has been well educated musically which added to their already monsterous gift to make outstanding musicians who are proving to surpass the rest of time.
This is a channel of love . I can see that. Keep on going.
James, Lars, Kirk and Cliff were between 20 and 22 years old when they wrote and recorded this. Just think about that.
I hate to be that guy, but: "And Dave*"
Kel is great. The song is great. Her reaction is great. Her outfit is great. This whole thing is just great! lol
For instance, Little Yurt on the Prairie... where you can see the grasses, smell the air, hear the birds, and know your soul. Drift onto heaven.
Kelly and Rich,,, I absolutely love everyone of you're reactions from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada,,, I love u both,,, I really wish we could hang out, love youz
I love the channel, but I think her basement just flooded. You guys are so fun to watch.
I think what Kel was trying to say is that Classical music is like heavy metal without electricity.
These are classically trained guys. Metallica kicks ass.
Dont know if you guys still come back and read comments , but you guys ROCK,
I just subbed. I watched a handful. I meant to post a longer comment. But never mind. I know the reactions are genuine. Kel's eardrums have the ability to transmit the musical sound waves to every single cell in her body, especially her neurons. I hope you guys would still continue the channel.
If you do movie reaction too, how about "Forrest Gump".
